Abstract:We construct a cdh-local motivic homotopy category SH_cdh(S) over an arbitrary base scheme S, and show that there is a canonical equivalence between SH_cdh(S) and SH(S). We learned this result from D.-C. Cisinski.

Abstract:We introduce a pro-cdh topology on formal schemes and prove that the $\infty$-topos of pro-cdh sheaves of spaces has an optimal bound of homotopy dimension. This remedies a defect for a pro-cdh topology on schemes introduced in [KS23]. As an application, we give a topos-theoretic interpretation of Weibel's vanishing of negative K-theory and motivic cohomology of Elmanto and Morrow.

Abstract:In order to work with non-Nagata rings which are Nagata "up-to-completely-decomposed-universal-homeomorphism", specifically finite rank hensel valuation rings, we introduce the notions of pseudo-integral closure and pseudo-normalisation. We use this notion to give a much more direct and shorter proof that $H^n_{cdh}(X, F) = H^n_{ldh}(X, F)$ for homotopy sheaves $F$ of modules over the $\mathbb{Z}_{(l)}$-linear motivic Eilenberg-Maclane spectrum. This comparison is an alternative to the first half of the authors volume Astérisque 391, whose main theorem is a cdh-descent result for Voevodsky motives. The motivating new insight is really accepting that Voevodsky's motivic cohomology (with $\mathbb{Z}[1/p]$-coefficients) is invariant not just for nilpotent thickenings, but for all universal homeomorphisms.

Abstract:We prove a `pro-cdh descent' result for suitably connective localizing invariants and the cotangent complex on arbitrary qcqs derived schemes. As an application, we deduce a generalised Weibel vanishing for negative $K$-groups of non-Noetherian schemes.

Abstract:We show that the classical Hochschild homology and (periodic and negative) cyclic homology groups are representable in the category of motives with modulus. We do this by constructing Hochschild homology and (periodic and negative) cyclic homologies for modulus pairs. We show a modulus version of HKR theorem, that is, there exists an isomorphism between modulus Hochschild homology and modulus Kähler differentials for affine normal crossing modulus pairs. By using the representability of modulus Hodge sheaves in the category of motives with modulus, we construct an object of the category of motives with modulus which represents modulus Hochschild homology. Similarly, We compare modulus de Rham cohomology and modulus cyclic homologies and obtain a representability of modulus cyclic homologies.

Abstract:We prove that, for any smooth and projective scheme $X$ over a field $k$ of char. $0$, the set of maps from Spec $k$ to $X$ in the $\mathbf{A}^1$-homotopy category of schemes $\mathcal{H}_{\mathbf{A}^1}(k)$ is in bijection with the quotient of $X(k)$ by $R$-equivalence, and is a birational invariant of $X$. This is achieved by establishing a precise relation between the localization of the category of smooth $k$-schemes by birational maps and the category $\mathcal{H}_{\mathbf{A}^1}(k)$, and by applying results of the second named author and R. Sujatha on birational invariants. This gives a new proof of results obtained by A. Asok and F. Morel.

Cdh Descent for Homotopy Hermitian $K$-Theory of Rings with Involution

Abstract:We provide a geometric model for the classifying space of automorphism groups of Hermitian vector bundles over a ring with involution $R$ such that $\frac{1}{2} \in R$; this generalizes a result of Schlichting-Tripathi \cite{SchTri}. We then prove a periodicity theorem for Hermitian $K$-theory and use it to construct an $E_\infty$ motivic ring spectrum $\mathbf{KR}^{\mathrm{alg}}$ representing homotopy Hermitian $K$-theory. From these results, we show that $\mathbf{KR}^{\mathrm{alg}}$ is stable under base change, and cdh descent for homotopy Hermitian $K$-theory of rings with involution is a formal consequence.

Simplicial $C_2$-Isovariant Homotopy

Abstract:This article presents a novel approach to construct a model category structure designed to model the homotopy theory of spaces equipped with an action by the group $C_2$, where morphisms are considered to be isovariant. Our methodology centers on simplicial techniques. We replace the conventional simplex category $\Delta$ with a modified category $C_2 \Delta$ and then delve into the study of presheaves of sets on $C_2 \Delta$. To establish the model category structure we employ Cisinski's methods for model structures in categories of presheaves. In particular, we use an analogous idea to the one employed by Cisinski and Moerdjik in the construction of a model category structure for Dendroidal Sets (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="0902.1954" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/0902.1954">arXiv:0902.1954</a>). Our approach distinguishes itself from prior work, such as Yeakel's (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1907.12135" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1907.12135">arXiv:1907.12135</a>) which primarily focuses on a more topological context and, brings a new perspective to the study of isovariant homotopy theory for $C_2$-spaces.

D-critical locus structure on the Hilbert schemes of some local toric Calabi-Yau threefolds

Abstract:The notion of a d-critical locus is an ingredient in the definition of motivic Donaldson-Thomas invariants by [BJM19]. In this paper we show that there is a d-critical locus structure on the Hilbert scheme of dimension zero subschemes on some local toric Calabi-Yau 3-folds. We also show that using this d-critical locus structure and a choice of orientation data, the resulting motivic invariants agree with the definition given by the previous work of [BBS13].

Abstract:Let C be a small category and k a field. There are two interesting mathematical subjects: the category algebra kC and the classifying space |C|=BC. We study the ring homomorphism HH*(kC) --> H*(|C|,k) and prove it is split surjective. This generalizes the well-known results for groups and posets. Based on this result, we construct a seven-dimensional category algebra whose Hochschild cohomology ring modulo nilpotents is not finitely generated, against a conjecture of Snashall and Solberg.

Abstract:We undertake a systematic study of the Hochschild homology, i.e. (the geometric realization of) the cyclic nerve, of $(\infty,1)$-categories (and more generally of category-objects in an $\infty$-category), as a version of factorization homology. In order to do this, we codify $(\infty,1)$-categories in terms of quiver representations in them. By examining a universal instance of such Hochschild homology, we explicitly identify its natural symmetries, and construct a non-stable version of the cyclotomic trace map. Along the way we give a unified account of the cyclic, paracyclic, and epicyclic categories. We also prove that this gives a combinatorial description of the $n=1$ case of factorization homology as presented in [AFR18], which parametrizes $(\infty,1)$-categories by solidly 1-framed stratified spaces.

Abstract:In this paper one considers three homotopy functors on the category of manifolds, $hH^\ast, cH^\ast, sH^\ast,$ and parallel them with other three homotopy functors on the category of connected commutative differential graded algebras, $HH^\ast, CH^\ast, SH^\ast.$ If $P$ is a smooth 1-connected manifold and the algebra is the de-Rham algebra of $P$ the two pairs of functors agree but in general do not. The functors $ HH^\ast $ and $CH^\ast$ can be also derived as Hochschild resp. cyclic homology of commutative differential graded algebra, but this is not the way they are introduced here. The third $SH^\ast ,$ although inspired from negative cyclic homology, can not be identified with any sort of cyclic homology of any algebra. The functor $sH^\ast$ might play some role in topology. Important tools in the construction of the functors $HH^\ast, CH^\ast $and $SH^\ast ,$ in addition to the linear algebra suggested by cyclic theory, are Sullivan minimal model theorem and the "free loop" construction described in this paper.

Derived categories of Quot schemes of locally free quotients

Abstract:This paper studies the derived category of the Quot scheme of rank $d$ locally free quotients of a sheaf $\mathscr{G}$ of homological dimension $\le 1$ over a scheme $X$. In particular, we propose a conjecture about the structure of its derived category and verify the conjecture in various cases. This framework allows us to relax certain regularity conditions on various known formulae -- such as the ones for blowups (along Koszul-regular centers), Cayley's trick, standard flips, projectivizations, and Grassmannain-flips -- and supplement these formulae with the results on mutations and relative Serre functors. This framework also leads us to many new phenomena such as virtual flips, and structural results for the derived categories of (i) $\mathrm{Quot}_2$ schemes, (ii) flips from partial desingularizations of $\mathrm{rank}\le 2$ degeneracy loci, and (iii) blowups along determinantal subschemes of codimension $\le 4$.

Abstract:Let $F$ and $k$ be perfect fields. The main goal of this paper is to investigate algebraic models for the Morel-Voevodsky unstable motivic homotopy category $\mathrm{Ho}(F)$ after $\mathbf{H}^{\mathbb{A}^1}k$ localization. More specifically, we extend results of Goerss to the $\mathbb{A}^1$-algebraic topology setting: we study the homotopy theory of the category $s\mathrm{coCAlg}_k(Sm_F)$ of presheaves of simplicial coalgebras over a field $k$ and their $\tau$ and $\mathbb{A}^1$-localizations. For $k$ algebraically closed, we show that the unit of the adjunction $k^{\delta}[-]\dashv(-)^{gp}$ determines the $\mathbf{H}^{\mathbb{A}^1}k$ homotopy type, where $k^{\delta}[-]$ is the canonical coalgebra functor induced by the diagonal map $\Delta:\mathcal{X}\rightarrow \mathcal{X}\times \mathcal{X}$. We extend this result for the category of presheaves of coalgebras over a non-algebraically closed field $k$ and the category of discrete $G$-motivic spaces, for $G=Gal(\bar{k}/k)$. On the other hand, we show that the category of coalgebra objects in $\mathrm{PST}(Sm_F,k)$ is locally presentable, where $\mathrm{PST}(Sm_F,k)$ is the category of presheaves with Voevodsky transfers and the monoidal structure is given by a Day convolution product.

Abstract:We show that the category of ind-coherent sheaves on a quasi-smooth scheme is naturally tensored over the category of sheared D-modules on its shifted cotangent bundle, commuting with its natural action of categorified Hoschschild cochains. We prove that it defines a Morita equivalence as such. We then extend these results to quasi-smooth Artin stacks. As a consequence of our formalism, we are able to articulate a precise sense in which the space of unramified automorphic functions over a function field localizes over the stack of arithmetic Arthur parameters.

A formal category theoretic approach to the homotopy theory of dg categories

Abstract:We introduce a bicategory which refines the localization of the category of dg categories with respect to quasi-equivalences and investigate its properties via formal category theory. Concretely, we first introduce the bicategory of dg categories $\mathsf{DBimod}$ whose Hom categories are the derived categories of dg bimodules and then define the desired bicategory as the sub-bicategory $\mathsf{DBimod}^\text{rqr}$ consisting only of right quasi-representable dg bimodules. The first half of the paper is devoted to the study of adjunctions and equivalences in these bicategories. We then show that the embedding $\mathsf{DBimod}^\text{rqr} \hookrightarrow \mathsf{DBimod}$ is a proarrow equipment in the sense of Richard J. Wood, which is a framework for formal category theory and makes it possible to talk about (weighted) (co)limits in an abstract way. Thus we obtain the notion of homotopical (co)limits in a dg category, including homotopical shifts and cones, by which we obtain a formal characterization of pretriangulated dg categories. As an immediate application we give a conceptual proof of the fact that the pretriangulatedness is preserved under the gluing procedure.

Abstract:We prove that singular cohomology of the underlying space of Berkovich's analytification of a scheme $X$ locally of finite type over a trivially-valued field $k$ of characteristic $0$ is isomorphic to cdh-cohomology with integer coefficients which is also isomorphic to the weight zero motivic cohomology $H^*(X, \mathbb{Z})$. Using this isomorphism, we demonstrate the vanishing of $RHom_{Sh_{Nis}(cor_k)}(\underline{G},\mathbb{Z})$, where $\underline{G}$ denotes the Nisnevich sheaf with transfers associated with a commutative algebraic group $G$ over $k$. For abelian $k$-varieties $A$ and $B$, we prove that $RHom_{\mathcal{PS}h_{tr}}(\underline{A},\underline{B})$ is isomorphic to $Hom_{\mathbf{Ab_k}}(A,B)$.

Abstract:In this short note we show that the homotopy category of smooth compactifications of smooth algebraic varieties is equivalent to the homotopy category of smooth varieties over a field of characteristic zero. As an application we show that the functor sending a variety to the p-th step of the Hodge filtration of its complex cohomology is representable in the homotopy category of simplicial presheaves on smooth complex varieties. The main motivation are recent applications of homotopy theory to Deligne-Beilinson cohomology theories.
