Abstract:The BESIII experiment starts to run at 2009 and has submitted 500 publications during the past 15 years. This article reviews the 26 new hadrons discovered at BESIII, dedicated to the celebration of this event.

Abstract:Hadron spectroscopy is one of the most important physics goals of BESIII. BESIII brings great opportunities to study the XYZ states of charmonium by directly producing the Y states up to 4.6 GeV. High statistics of charmonium decays collected at BESIII provide an excellent place for hunting gluonic excitations and studying the excited baryons. Recent results of light hadron spectroscopy and charmonium spectroscopy from BESIII will be reported.

Abstract:The standard model of particle physics is a well-tested theoretical framework, but there are still a number of issues that deserve further experimental and theoretical investigation. For quark physics, such questions include: the nature of quark confinement, the mechanism that connects the quarks and gluons of the standard model theory to the strongly interacting particles; and the weak decays of quarks, which may provide insights into new physics mechanisms responsible for the matter-antimatter asymmetry of the Universe. These issues are addressed by the Beijing Spectrometer III (BESIII) experiment at the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider II (BEPCII) storage ring, which for the past decade has been studying particles produced in electron-positron collisions in the tau-charm energy-threshold region, and has by now accumulated the world's largest datasets that enables searches for nonstandard hadrons, weak decays of the charmed particles, and new physics phenomena beyond the standard model. Here, we review the contributions of BESIII to such studies and discuss future prospects for BESIII and other experiments.

Abstract:Hadron spectroscopy provides a way to understand the dynamics of the strong interaction. For light hadron systems, only phenomenological models or lattice quantum chromodynamics (QCD) are applicable, because of the failure of perturbation expansions for QCD at low energy. Experimental data on light hadron spectroscopy are therefore crucial to provide necessary constraints on various theoretical models. Light meson spectroscopy has been studied using charmonium decays with the Beijing Spectrometer Experiment (BES) at the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider, operating at 2.0-4.6 GeV center-of-mass energy, for nearly three decades. Charmonium data with unprecedented statistics and well-defined initial and final states provide BESIII with unique opportunities to search for glueballs, hybrids and multi-quark states, as well as perform systematic studies of the properties of conventional light mesons. In this article, we review BESIII results that address these issues.

Abstract:This talk presents recent experimental findings at BESIII experiment, including three distinct studies. Firstly, it reports the measurements of the Born cross-sections of $e^+e^-\to\Sigma^+\bar\Sigma^-$, $\Xi^-\bar\Xi^+$, $K^{0}_{S}K^{0}_{L}$ and $K^-\bar\Xi^+\Lambda/\Sigma^0+c.c.$ at center-of-mass energies between 3.5 and 4.9 GeV. Secondly, it delves into the observation of significant flavor-SU(3) breaking in the kaon wave function at 12 GeV$^2$$<Q^2<$25 GeV$^2$, the discovery of $\psi(3770)\to K^{0}_{S}K^{0}_{L}$ and the evidence of $\psi(4160)\to K^-\bar\Xi^+\Lambda+c.c.$. Thirdly, it discusses the search for the production of deuterons in $e^+e^-$ annihilation at center-of-mass energies between 4.1 and 4.7 GeV in the reactions of $e^+e^-\to pp\pi^-\bar{d}+c.c.$ and $pp\bar{p}\bar{n}\pi^-+c.c.$. These results offer new perspectives on hadron production in the baryonic final states and the flavor dynamics within the kaon wave function, and the rare decay processes involving the $\psi(3770)$ resonance, contributing to our understanding of hadron dynamics in this energy regime through baryon final states produced in $e^+e^-$ collisions.

Study of hyperon-nucleon interactions at BESIII

Abstract:Hyperon-nucleon interactions are important to understand quantum chromodynamics and so-called "hyperon puzzle" of neutron star, but limited by the availability and short-lifetime of hyperon beams, the progress of relevant research is very slow. A novel method is used to study hyperon-nucleon interactions based on hyperons produced in the decays of 10 billion $J/\psi$ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring, and the target material is beam pipe. The reactions $\Xi^{0}n\rightarrow\Xi^{-}p$ and $\Lambda N\rightarrow\Sigma^+X$ have been observed and measured at BESIII. This is the first study of hyperon-nucleon interactions in electron-positron collisions and opens up a new direction for such research.

Abstract:The Standard Model (SM) of particle physics, comprised of the unified electro-weak (EW) and Quantum Chromodynamic (QCD) theories, accurately explains almost all experimental results related to the micro-world, and has made a number of predictions for previously unseen particles, most notably the Higgs scalar boson, that were subsequently discovered. As a result, the SM is currently universally accepted as the theory of the fundamental particles and their interactions. However, in spite of its numerous successes, the SM has a number of apparent shortcomings including: many free parameters that must be supplied by experimental measurements; no mechanism to produce the dominance of matter over antimatter in the universe; and no explanations for gravity, the dark matter in the universe, neutrino masses, the number of particle generations, etc. Because of these shortcomings, there is considerable incentive to search for evidence for new, non-SM physics phenomena that might provide important clues about what a new, beyond the SM theory (BSM) might look like. Although the center-of-mass energies that BESIII can access are far below the energy frontier, searches for new, BSM physics are an important component of its research program. Here we describe ways that BESIII looks for signs of BSM physics by measuring rates for processes that the SM predicts to be forbidden or very rare, searching for non-SM particles such as dark photons, making precision tests of SM predictions, and looking for violations of the discrete symmetries C and CP in processes for which the SM-expectations are immeasurably small.

Abstract:The Beijing $e^+e^-$-collider (BEPCII) is a double-ring symmetric collider running at center-of-mass energies between 2.0 and 4.6 GeV. This energy range allows the BESIII-experiment to measure baryon electromagnetic form factors in direct $e^+e^-$-annihilation and in initial state radiation processes. In this paper, results on $e^+e^-\rightarrow p\bar{p}$ and $e^+e^-\rightarrow \Lambda \bar{\Lambda}$ based on data collected by BESIII in 2011 and 2012 are presented. Expectations from the BESIII high luminosity energy scan from 2015 and from radiative return at different center-of-mass energies are also reported.

In recent years the BESIII experiment has made significant progresses in eta/eta' decays. A selection of recent highlights in light meson spectroscopy at BESIII are reviewed in this report.

Abstract:This physics book provides detailed discussions on important topics in $\tau$-charm physics that will be explored during the next few years at \bes3 . Both theoretical and experimental issues are covered, including extensive reviews of recent theoretical developments and experimental techniques. Among the subjects covered are: innovations in Partial Wave Analysis (PWA), theoretical and experimental techniques for Dalitz-plot analyses, analysis tools to extract absolute branching fractions and measurements of decay constants, form factors, and CP-violation and \DzDzb-oscillation parameters. Programs of QCD studies and near-threshold tau-lepton physics measurements are also discussed.

Abstract:The cornerstone of the Chinese experimental particle physics program consists of a series of experiments performed in the tau-charm energy region. China began building e+e- colliders at the Institute for High Energy Physics in Beijing more than three decades ago. Beijing Electron Spectrometer, BES, is the common root name for the particle physics detectors operated at these machines. The development of the BES program is summarized and highlights of the physics results across several topical areas are presented.

Using a large dataset from [math] annihilation, BESIII has conducted comprehensive and extensive studies in the areas of hadronic, leptonic and semileptonic decays. This proceeding presents an overview of the recent researches and discoveries by BESIII on decays of charmed baryons, charmed mesons and charmonium states, highlighting their significance in advancing the understanding of new physics, experimental determination of physical parameters and improvement of measurement precision.

Abstract:We present a measurement of the integrated luminosity of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at a center-of-mass energy of $E_{\rm cm} = 3.773$~GeV. The integrated luminosities of the data sets taken from December 2021 to June 2022, from November 2022 to June 2023, and from October 2023 to February 2024 are determined to be $4.995 \pm 0.019$~fb$^{-1}$, $8.157 \pm 0.031$~fb$^{-1}$, and $4.191 \pm 0.016$~fb$^{-1}$, respectively, by analyzing large angle Bhabha scattering events. The uncertainties are dominated by systematic effects and the statistical uncertainties are negligible. Our results provide essential input for future analyses and precision measurements.

Abstract:The Beijing Spectrometer (BES) detector is a general purpose solenoid detector at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPC) in Beijing, China, that has collected large numbers of J/ψ, ψ′, Ds, D and τ events. In this paper, we describe the recent upgrade of the initial BES detector (BESI) to the improved BESII detector.

Abstract:Utilizing the large quantity of hyperons and antihyperons produced by the decay of 10 billion $J/\psi$ and 2.7 billion $\psi(3686)$ collected at BESIII, the cross sections of several specific elastic or inelastic (anti-)hyperon-nucleus/nucleon rections have been measured via the scattering between the (anti-)hyperons and the nucleus in the dense objects of BESIII detector. The novel method developed in these works extends the research field and opens a new era for the experiments at $e^+ e^-$ colliders. The results of such measurements will definitely benefit a lot the precise probe of the (anti-)hyperon-nucleus/nucleon interactions and provide constraints for the studies of the potential of strong interaction, the origin of color confinement, the unified model for baryon-baryon interactions, and the internal structure of neutron stars. The desirable prospects of corresponding studies in the future Super Tau-Charm Factory (STCF) are also discussed in this report.

Abstract:In the paper, we discuss the development of the multi-gap resistive plate chamber Time-of-Flight (TOF) technology and the production of the STAR TOF detector in China at the beginning of the 21st century. Then we review recent experimental results from the first beam energy scan program (BES-I) at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). Topics cover measurements of collectivity, chirality, criticality, global polarization, strangeness, heavy-flavor, di-lepton and light nuclei productions.

Abstract:In this talk, I would report the new observation of X(1835), which has properties inconsistent with any know mesons, but consistent with expectations for the state that produces the strong [Formula: see text] mass threshold enhancement observed in the [Formula: see text] process at BESII. I will also review some other multiquark candidates which are indicated by [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] mass threshold enhancements.

Abstract:It has been five years since the data sample from the LHCb detector, the first experiment optimized for heavy-flavor physics studies at a hadronic collider, was completed. These data led to many major discoveries in exotic hadron spectroscopy, which we review in this article. We supplement the experimental results with a selection of phenomenological interpretations. As the upgraded LHCb detector is expected to collect a larger data sample starting in 2024, the near- and further-future potential of the LHCb program in exotic hadron physics is also discussed.
