Abstract:A graph is called integral if all its eigenvalues are integers. A Cayley graph is called normal if its connection set is a union of conjugacy classes. We show that a non-empty integral normal Cayley graph for a group of odd order has an odd eigenvalue.

Abstract:Let $Z$ be an abelian group, $ x \in Z$, and $[x] = \{ y : \langle x \rangle = \langle y \rangle \}$. A graph is called integral if all its eigenvalues are integers. It is known that a Cayley graph is integral if and only if its connection set can be express as union of the sets $[x] $. In this paper, we determine an algebraic formula for eigenvalues of the integral Cayley graph when the connection set is $ [x]$. This formula involves an analogue of M$\ddot{\text{o}}$bius function.

Abstract:A graph is called integral if its eigenvalues are integers. In this article, we provide the necessary and sufficient conditions for a Cayley graph over a finite symmetric algebra $R$ to be integral. This generalizes the work of So who studies the case where $R$ is the ring of integers modulo $n.$ We also explain some number-theoretic constructions of finite symmetric algebras arising from global fields, which we hope could pave the way for future studies on Paley graphs associated with a finite Hecke character.

And we succeed in finding a method to do so by proving Theorem 1. Also, the number of such Cayley digraphs is computed.

Abstract:A Cayley graph on the symmetric group $S_n$ is said to have the Aldous property if its strictly second largest eigenvalue (that is, the largest eigenvalue strictly smaller than the degree) is attained by the standard representation of $S_n$. For $1\leq r < k < n$, let $C(n,k;r)$ be the set of $k$-cycles of $S_n$ moving every point in $\{1, \ldots, r\}$. Recently, Siemons and Zalesski [J. Algebraic Combin. 55 (2022) 989--1005] posed a conjecture which is equivalent to saying that for any $n \ge 5$ and $1\leq r<k<n$ the nonnormal Cayley graph $\mathrm{Cay}(S_n, C(n,k;r))$ on $S_n$ with connection set $C(n,k;r)$ has the Aldous property. Solving this conjecture, we prove that all these graphs have the Aldous property except when (i) $(n, k, r) = (6, 5, 1)$ or (ii) $n$ is odd, $k = n-1$, and $1 \le r < \frac{n}{2}$. Along the way we determine all irreducible representations of $S_n$ that can achieve the strictly second largest eigenvalue of $\mathrm{Cay}(S_n, C(n,n-1;r))$ as well as the smallest eigenvalue of this graph.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the integral Cayley graphs over a non-abelian group $U_{6n}=\langle a,b\mid a^{2n}=b^3=1, a^{-1}ba=b^{-1}\rangle$ of order $6n$. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for the integrality of Cayley graphs over $U_{6n}$. We also study relationships between the integrality of Cayley graphs over $U_{6n}$ and the Boolean algebra of cyclic groups. As applications, we construct some infinite families of connected integral Cayley graphs over $U_{6n}$.

Abstract:A finite group $G$ is called Cayley integral if all undirected Cayley graphs over $G$ are integral, i.e., all eigenvalues of the graphs are integers. The Cayley integral groups have been determined by Kloster and Sander in the abelian case, and by Abdollahi and Jazaeri, and independently by Ahmady, Bell and Mohar in the non-abelian case. In this paper we generalize this class of groups by introducing the class $\mathcal{G}_k$ of finite groups $G$ for which all graphs $\mathrm{Cay}(G,S)$ are integral if $|S| \le k$. It will be proved that $\mathcal{G}_k$ consists of the Cayley integral groups if $k \ge 6;$ and the classes $\mathcal{G}_4$ and $\mathcal{G}_5$ are equal, and consist of:\ (1) the Cayley integral groups, (2) the generalized dicyclic groups $\mathrm{Dic}(E_{3^n} \times \mathbb{Z}_6),$ where $n \ge 1$.

Integral Cayley graphs of symmetric groups on transpositions

Abstract:We study subsets $T$ consisting of some transpositions $(i,j)$ of the symmetric group $S_n$ on $\{1,\dots,n\}$ such that the Cayley graph $\Gamma_T:=Cay(S_n,T)$ is an integral graph, i.e., all eigenvalues of an adjacency matrix of $\Gamma_T$ are integers. Graph properties of $\Gamma_T$ are determined in terms of ones of the graph $G_T$ whose vertex set is $\{1,\dots,n\}$ and $\{i,j\}$ is an edge if and only if $(i,j)\in T$. Here we prove that if $G_T$ is a tree then $\Gamma_T$ is integral if and only if $T$ is isomorphic to the star graph $K_{1,n-1}$, answering Problem 5 of [Electron. J. Comnin., 29(2) (2022) \# P2.9]. Problem 6 of the latter article asks to find necessary and sufficient conditions on $T$ for integralness of $Cay(S_n,T)$ without any further assumption on $T$. We show that if $G_T$ is a graph which we call it a ``generalized complete multipartite graph" then $Cay(S_n,T)$ is integral. We conjecture that $Cay(S_n,T)$ is integral only if $G_T$ is a generalized complete multipartitie graph. To support the latter conjecture we show its validity whenever $G_T$ is some classes of graphs including cycles and cubic graphs.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a finite abelian group. Bridges and Mena characterized the Cayley graphs of $G$ that have only integer eigenvalues. Here we consider the $(0,1,-1)$ adjacency matrix of an oriented Cayley graph or of a signed Cayley graph $X$ on $G$. We give a characterization of when all the eigenvalues of $X$ are integer multiples of $\sqrt{\Delta}$ for some square-free integer $\Delta$. These are exactly the oriented or signed Cayley graphs on which the continuous quantum walks are periodic, a necessary condition for walks on such graphs to admit perfect state transfer. This also has applications in the study of uniform mixing on oriented Cayley graphs, as the occurrence of local uniform mixing at vertex $a$ in an oriented graph $X$ implies periodicity of the walk at $a$. We give examples of oriented Cayley graphs which admit uniform mixing or multiple state transfer.

Abstract:Recently, several works by a number of authors have provided characterizations of integral undirected Cayley graphs over generalized dihedral groups and generalized dicyclic groups. We generalize and unify these results in two different ways. Firstly, we work over arbitrary non-abelian finite groups admitting an abelian subgroup of index 2. Secondly, our main result actually characterizes integral mixed Cayley graphs over such finite groups, in the spirit of a very recent result of Kadyan--Bhattarcharjya in the abelian case.

Abstract:This note is based on joint work with Xi-Ming Cheng, Alexander Gavrilyuk, and Jack Koolen. We refer the interested reader to our paper [4]. Our objects of study are graphs having precisely three distinct eigenvalues. For graphs with few eigenvalues, the case of three eigenvalues is the first interesting case. Indeed, let $\Gamma$ be a connected graph on $n$ vertices and let $A$ denote its adjacency matrix. Since the trace of $A$ is zero, if $\Gamma$ has just one eigenvalue $\theta_{0}$ then it follows that $\theta_{0}=0$ . Now, if $\Gamma$ has just two eigenvalues $\theta_{0}>\theta_{1}$ then since it is connected, it must have spectrum $\{[\theta_{0}]^{(1)}, [\theta_{1}]^{(n-1)}\}$ . Abstract:For a graph $\Gamma$, the multiplicity of the eigenvalue $0$, denoted by $\eta(\Gamma)$, is called the nullity of $\Gamma$. Also the energy of $\Gamma$, denoted by $\mathcal{E}(\Gamma)$, is defined as the sum of the absolute values of the eigenvalues of $\Gamma$. The index of a subgroup $H$ in a group $G$ is denoted by $[G:H]$. For a prime $p$, let $G$ be a finite $p$-solvable group whose order is divisible by $p$. Also let $\Omega_p(G)$ be the set of all $p$-singular elements of $G$. In this paper, we apply block theory of finite groups to show that the Cayley graph $\Gamma_p(G):=\mathrm{Cay}(G,\Omega_p(G))$ is an integral graph with $\eta(\Gamma_p(G))=|G|-[G:O_{p^\prime}(G)]$, where $O_{p^\prime}(G)$ is the largest normal subgroup of $G$ whose order is co-prime to $p$. We also find a lower bound for $\mathcal{E}(\Gamma_p(G))$. Finally, we prove that the diameter of $\Gamma_p(G)$ is at most $ |G|_p$.

Abstract:In this note, we give an infinite family of optimal graphs called $G^+(d,c)$. They are optimal in the sense that they have the maximum possible number of vertices for given a diameter $d$ and the so-called `outer multiset dimension' $c$. We provide their spectra, which have the property that their Laplacian eigenvalues are all different and integral. Finally, we also obtained their eigenvectors.

Circulant graphs as an example of discrete quantum unique ergodicity

Abstract:A discrete analog of quantum unique ergodicity was proved for Cayley graphs of quasirandom groups by Magee, Thomas and Zhao. They show that for large graphs there exist real orthonormal basis of eigenfunctions of the adjacency matrix such that quantum probability measures of the eigenfunctions put approximately the correct proportion of their mass on subsets of the vertices that are not too small. We investigate this property for Cayley graphs of cyclic groups (circulant graphs). We observe that there exist sequences of orthonormal eigenfunction bases which are perfectly equidistributed. However, for sequences of 4-regular circulant graphs of prime order, we show that there are no sequences of real orthonormal bases where all sequences of eigenfunctions equidistribute. To obtain this result, we also prove that, for large 4-regular circulant graphs of prime order, the maximum multiplicity of the eigenvalues of the adjacency matrix is two.

Abstract:We consider nonregular graphs having precisely three distinct eigenvalues. The focus is mainly on the case of graphs having two distinct valencies and our results include constructions of new examples, structure theorems, valency constraints, and a classification of certain special families of such graphs. We also present a new example of a graph with three valencies and three eigenvalues of which there are currently only finitely many known examples.

Abstract:In a recent paper Gunnells, Scott and Walden have determined the complete spectrum of the Schreier graph on the symmetric group corresponding to the Young subgroup $S_{n-2}\times S_2$ and generated by initial reversals. In particular they find that the first nonzero eigenvalue, or spectral gap, of the Laplacian is always 1, and report that "empirical evidence" suggests that this also holds for the corresponding Cayley graph. We provide a simple proof of this last assertion, based on the decomposition of the Laplacian of Cayley graphs, into a direct sum of irreducible representation matrices of the symmetric group.

The Artin monoid Cayley graph

Abstract:In this paper we investigate properties of the Artin monoid Cayley graph. This is the Cayley graph of an Artin group $A_\Gamma$ with respect to the (infinite) generating set given by the associated Artin monoid $A^+_\Gamma$. In a previous paper, the first three authors introduced a monoid Deligne complex and showed that this complex is contractible for all Artin groups. In this paper, we show that the Artin monoid Cayley graph is quasi-isometric to a modification of the Deligne complex for $A_\Gamma$ obtained by coning off translates of the monoid Deligne complex. We then address the question of when the monoid Cayley graph has infinite diameter. We conjecture that this holds for all Artin groups of infinite type. We give a set of criteria that imply infinite diameter, and using existing solutions to the word problem for large-type Artin groups and 3-free Artin groups, we prove that the conjecture holds for any Artin group containing a 3-generator subgroup of one of these two types.
