Abstract:In 1996 Stolz conjectured that a string manifold with positive Ricci curvature has vanishing Witten genus. Here we prove this conjecture for toric string Fano manifolds and for string torus manifolds admitting invariant metrics of non-negative sectional curvature.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider asymptotically flat Riemannian manifolds endowed with a continuous metric and the metric is smooth away from a compact subset with certain conditions. If the metric is Lipschitz and the scalar curvature is nonnegative away from a closed subset with (n - 1)-dimensional Hausdorff measure zero, then we prove that the ADM mass of each end is nonnegative. Furthermore, if the ADM mass of some end is zero, then we prove that the manifold is isometric to the Euclidean space. The Hausdorff measure condition is optimal, which confirms a conjecture of Lee in 2013. The proof of the nonnegativity is based on a smoothing argument with some new estimates such as a L-1-scalar curvature approximation estimates. The proof of the rigidity relies on the RCD theory where we show that the manifold has nonnegative Ricci curvature in RCD sense. The idea involving RCD theory in the proof turns out to be much more suitable in the study of the rigidity for continuous metrics. Furthermore, our result generalizes the result of Lee and LeFloch (Commun Math Phys 339(1):99-120, 2015) from spin to non-spin.

Abstract:In this article we first show that any finite cover of the moduli space of closed Riemann surfaces of genus $g$ with $g\geq 2$ does not admit any Riemannian metric $ds^2$ of nonnegative scalar curvature such that $ds^2 \succ ds_{T}^2$ where $ds_{T}^2$ is the Teichm\"uller metric. Our second result is the proof that any cover $M$ of the moduli space $\mathbb{M}_{g}$ of a closed Riemann surface $S_{g}$ does not admit any complete Riemannian metric of uniformly positive scalar curvature in the quasi-isometry class of the Teichm\"uller metric, which implies a conjecture of Farb-Weinberger.

Abstract:We prove vanishing results for Witten genera of string generalized complete intersections in homogeneous $\text{Spin}^c$-manifolds and in other $\text{Spin}^c$-manifolds with Lie group actions. By applying these results to Fano manifolds with second Betti number equal to one we get new evidence for a conjecture of Stolz.

Abstract:We construct a generalized Witten genus for spin$^c$ manifolds, which takes values in level 1 modular forms with integral Fourier expansion on a class of spin$^c$ manifolds called string$^c$ manifolds. We also construct a mod 2 analogue of the Witten genus for $8k+2$ dimensional spin manifolds. The Landweber-Stong type vanishing theorems are proven for the generalized Witten genus and the mod 2 Witten genus on string$^c$ and string (generalized) complete intersections in (product of) complex projective spaces respectively.

Abstract:We study obstructions to the existence of Riemannian metrics of positive scalar curvature on closed smooth manifolds arising from torsion classes in the integral homology of their fundamental groups. As an application, we construct new examples of manifolds which do not admit positive scalar curvature metrics, but whose Cartesian products admit such metrics.

Abstract:In this article, we propose the following conjecture: if the Strominger connection of a compact Hermitian manifold has constant non-zero holomorphic sectional curvature, then the Hermitian metric must be Kähler. The main result of this article is to confirm the conjecture in dimension $2$. We also verify the conjecture in higher dimensions in a couple of special situations.

Abstract:Some new differentiable sphere theorems are obtained via the Ricci flow and stable currents. We prove that if $M^n$ is a compact manifold whose normalized scalar curvature and sectional curvature satisfy the pointwise pinching condition $R_0>\sigma_{n}K_{\max}$, where $\sigma_n\in (\frac{1}{4},1)$ is an explicit positive constant, then $M$ is diffeomorphic to a spherical space form. This gives a partial answer to Yau's conjecture on pinching theorem. Moreover, we prove that if $M^n(n\geq3)$ is a compact manifold whose $(n-2)$-th Ricci curvature and normalized scalar curvature satisfy the pointwise condition $Ric^{(n-2)}_{\min}>\tau_n(n-2)R_0,$ where $\tau_n\in (\frac{1}{4},1)$ is an explicit positive constant, then $M$ is diffeomorphic to a spherical space form. We then extend the sphere theorems above to submanifolds in a Riemannian manifold. Finally we give a classification of submanifolds with weakly pinched curvatures, which improves the differentiable pinching theorems due to Andrews, Baker and the authors.
The Manin conjecture for toric stacks

Abstract:Split toric stacks over a number field $F$ are natural generalization of split toric varieties over $F$. Notable examples are weighted projective stacks. In our previous work, we defined heights on Deligne-Mumford stacks using so-called raised line bundles and made predictions on asymptotic formulas of the number of rational points of bounded height. In this paper, we prove that the number of rational points of any split toric stack of bounded height with respect to the anti-canonical raised line bundle satisfies one of our predictions, the Manin conjecture for Deligne-Mumford stacks.

Abstract:Using minimal hypersurfaces, we obtain topological obstructions to admitting complete metrics with positive scalar curvature on a given class of non-compact n-manifolds with n less than 8. We show that the Liouville theorem for a locally conformally flat n-manifold of non-negative scalar curvature follows from the impossibility of there being a positive scalar curvature metric on its connect sum with the n-torus. With the recent work of Chodosh-Li, the Liouville theorem is now proved in all remaining cases. Finally, using MOTS instead of minimal hypersurfaces, we show an Initial Data Set version of these results with the Dominant Energy Scalar appearing instead of positive scalar curvature.
Super Gromov-Witten Invariants via torus localization

Abstract:In this article we propose a definition of super Gromov-Witten invariants by postulating a torus localization property for the odd directions of the moduli spaces of super stable maps and super stable curves of genus zero. That is, we define super Gromov-Witten invariants as the integral over the pullback of homology classes along the evaluation maps divided by the equivariant Euler class of the normal bundle of the embedding of the moduli space of stable spin maps into the moduli space of super stable maps. This definition sidesteps the difficulties of defining a supergeometric intersection theory and works with classical intersection theory only. The properties of the normal bundles, known from the differential geometric construction of the moduli space of super stable maps, imply that super Gromov-Witten invariants satisfy a generalization of Kontsevich-Manin axioms and allow for the construction of a super small quantum cohomology ring. We describe a method to calculate super Gromov-Witten invariants of $\mathbb{P}^n$ of genus zero by a further geometric torus localization and give explicit numbers in degree one when dimension and number of marked points are small.

Abstract:The notion of a generic curved noncommutative torus is considered, which extends the notion of a conformally deformed noncommutative torus introduced by Connes and Tretkoff. For this manifold, an asymptotic expansion is established for the heat semigroup generated by the Laplace–Beltrami operator (in fact, for an arbitrary selfadjoint positive elliptic differential operator of order 2 2 ) and an algorithm is provided to compute the local invariants that arize as the coefficients in the expansion. This allows one to extend a series of previous results by several authors beyond the conformal case and/or for multidimensional tori.

Positive Ricci curvature on connected sums of fibre bundles

Abstract:We consider the problem of preserving positive Ricci curvature along connected sums. In this context, based on earlier work by Perelman, Burdick introduced the notion of core metrics and showed that the connected sum of manifolds with core metrics admits a Riemannian metric of positive Ricci curvature. He subsequently showed that core metrics exist on compact rank one symmetric spaces, certain sphere bundles and manifolds obtained as boundaries of certain plumbings. In this article, we show that core metrics can be lifted along general fibre bundles, including sphere bundles and projective bundles. Our techniques also apply to spaces that decompose as the union of two disc bundles such as the Wu manifold. As application we show that all classes in the torsion-free oriented bordism ring can be represented by connected manifolds of positive Ricci curvature.

Abstract:In this paper we study gradient steady Kähler-Ricci soliton metrics on non-compact toric manifolds. We show that the orbit space of the free locus of such a manifold carries a natural Hessian structure with a nonnegative Bakry-Émery tensor. We generalize Calabi's classical rigidity result and use this to prove that any complete -invariant gradient steady Kähler-Ricci soliton with a free torus action must be a flat .

Untwisted Gromov-Witten invariants of Riemann-Finsler manifolds

Abstract:We define a $\mathbb{Q}$-valued deformation invariant of certain complete Riemann-Finsler manifolds, in particular of complete Riemannian manifolds with non positive sectional curvature. It is proved that every rational number is the value of this invariant for some compact Riemannian manifold. We use this to find the first and mostly sharp generalizations, to non-compact products and fibrations, of Preissman's theorem on non-existence of negative sectional curvature metrics on compact products. For example, $\Sigma \times T ^{n}$ admits a metric of negative sectional curvature, where $\Sigma$ is a non-compact possibly infinite type surface, if and only if $\Sigma$ has genus zero. We also give novel estimates on counts of closed geodesics with restrictions on multiplicity. Along the way, we also prove that sky catastrophes of smooth dynamical systems are not geodesible by a certain class of forward complete Riemann-Finsler metrics, in particular by complete Riemannian metrics with non-positive sectional curvature. This partially answers a question of Fuller and gives important examples for our theory here.

Abstract:We consider the Steklov eigenvalue problem on a compact pinched negatively curved manifold $M$ of dimension at least three with totally geodesic boundaries. We obtain a geometric lower bound for the first nonzero Steklov eigenvalue in terms of the total volume of $M$ and the volume of its boundary. We provide examples illustrating the necessity of these geometric quantities in the lower bound. Our result can be seen as a counterpart of the lower bound for the first nonzero Laplace eigenvalue on closed pinched negatively curved manifolds of dimension at least three proved by Schoen in 1982. The proof is composed of certain key elements. We provide a uniform lower bound for the first eigenvalue of the Steklov-Dirichlet problem on a neighborhood of the boundary of $M$ and show that it provides an obstruction to having a small first nonzero Steklov eigenvalue. As another key element of the proof, we give a tubular neighborhood theorem for totally geodesic hypersurfaces in a pinched negatively curved manifold. We give an explicit dependence for the width function in terms of the volume of the boundary and the pinching constant.

Abstract:Suppose {( M , g ( t )), 0 ≤ t < ∞} is a Kähler Ricci flow solution on a Fano surface. If | Rm | is not uniformly bounded along this flow, we can blowup at the maximal curvature points to obtain a limit complete Riemannian manifold X . We show that X must have certain topological and geometric properties. Using these properties, we are able to prove that | Rm | is uniformly bounded along every Kähler Ricci flow on toric Fano surface, whose initial metric has toric symmetry. In particular, such a Kähler Ricci flow must converge to a Kähler Ricci soliton metric. Therefore we give a new Ricci flow proof of the existence of Kähler Ricci soliton metrics on toric Fano surfaces.

Abstract:In 1989, B. White conjectured that every Riemannian 3-sphere has at least 5 embedded minimal tori. We confirm this conjecture for 3-spheres of positive Ricci curvature. While our proof uses min-max theory, the underlying heuristics are largely inspired by mean curvature flow.
