Abstract:Let A(1,m) be the Fourier coefficients of an SL(3,Z) Hecke–Maass cusp form F and λ(m) be those of an SL(2,Z) Hecke holomorphic or Hecke–Maass cusp form g . Let H⊂⟦−X1−ε,X1+ε⟧ and {a(h)}h∈H⊂C be a sequence. We show that if H⊂l+⟦0,X1/2+ε⟧ for some l⩾0 , Da,H(X):=1|H|∑h∈Ha(h)∑m=1∞A(1,m)λ(rm+h)VmX≪F,g,εX1+ε|H|∥a∥2 for any ε>0 , and a similar bound holds when H⊃l+⟦0,X1/2+ε⟧ . This improves Sun's bound and generalizes it to an average with arbitrary weights a(h) . Moreover, we demonstrate how one can recover the factorizable moduli structure given by Jutila's variant of the circle method via studying a shifted sum with weighted average. This allows us to recover Munshi's bound on the shifted sum with a fixed shift without using Jutila's circle method.

Abstract:The objective of this paper is to obtain asymptotic results for shifted sums of multiplicative functions of the form $g \ast 1$, where the function $g$ satisfies the Ramanujan conjecture and has conjectured upper bounds on square moments of its L-function. We establish that for $H$ within the range $X^{1-2\varepsilon} \leq H \leq X^{1-\varepsilon}$, there exist constants $B_{f,h}$ such that $$ \sum_{X\leq n \leq 2X} f(n)f(n+h)-B_{f,h}X=O_{f,\varepsilon}\big(X^{1-\varepsilon/2}\big)$$ for all but $O_{f,\varepsilon}\big(HX^{-1/44+6\varepsilon+o(1)}\big)$ integers $h \in [1,H].$ Additionally, we establish power-saving error terms for almost all integers $h$ in $[1, H]$ when $X^{87/88+7\varepsilon} \leq H \leq X^{1-\varepsilon}$ and apply them to deduce mean-value estimates of long Dirichlet polynomials. Our method is based on the Hardy-Littlewood circle method. In order to treat minor arcs, we use the convolution structure and a cancellation of $g(n)$ that are additively twisted, applying some arguments from a paper of Matomä{}ki, Radziwiłł and Tao.

Abstract:Let G be a finite abelian group. If f : G -> C is a nonzero function with Fourier transform f, the Donoho-Stark uncertainty principle states that |supp( f)||supp((f) over cap)| >= |G|. The purpose of this paper is twofold. First, we present the shift bound for abelian codes with a streamlined proof. Second, we use the shifting technique to prove a generalization and a sharpening of the Donoho-Stark uncertainty principle. In particular, if f : G -> F is a non-zero function from G to a field F, and if f has a Fourier transform (f) over cap, the sharpened uncertainty principle states that |supp(f)|| supp((f) over cap)| >= | G|+| supp(f)|-| H(supp(f))|, where H(supp(f)) is the stabilizer of supp(f) in G.

Abstract:Let $A_f(1,n)$ be the normalized Fourier coefficients of a Hecke-Maass cusp form $f$ for $SL_3(\mathbb{Z})$ and $$ r_3(n)=\#\left\{(n_1,n_2,n_3)\in \mathbb{Z}^3:n_1^2+n_2^2+n_3^2=n\right\}. $$ Let $1\leq h\leq X$ and $\phi(x)$ be a smooth function compactly supported on $[1/2,1]$. It is shown that $$ \sum_{n\geq 1}A_f(1,n+h)r_3(n)\phi\left(\frac{n}{X}\right) \ll_{f,\varepsilon} X^{\frac{3}{2}-\frac{1}{8}+\varepsilon} $$ uniformly with respect to the shift $h$.

Abstract:In \cite{CGPWW2021}, it was conjectured that a particular shifted sum of even divisor sums vanishes, and in \cite{SDK}, a formal argument was given for this vanishing. Shifted convolution sums of this form appear when computing the Fourier expansion of coefficients for the low energy scattering amplitudes in type IIB string theory \cite{GMV2015} and have applications to subconvexity bounds of $L$-functions. In this article, we generalize the argument from~\cite{SDK} and rigorously evaluate shifted convolution of the divisor functions of the form $\displaystyle \sum_{\stackrel{n_1+n_2=n}{n_1, n_2 \in \mathbb{Z} \setminus \{0\}}} \sigma_{k}(n_1) \sigma_{\ell}(n_2) |n_1|^R $ and $\displaystyle \sum_{\stackrel{n_1+n_2=n}{n_1, n_2 \in \mathbb{Z} \setminus \{0\} }} \sigma_{k}(n_1) \sigma_{\ell}(n_2) |n_1|^Q\log|n_1| $ where $\sigma_\nu(n) = \sum_{d \divides n} d^\nu$. In doing so, we derive exact identities for these sums and conjecture that particular sums similar to but different from the one found in \cite{CGPWW2021} will also vanish.

Abstract:We employ a regularized relative trace formula to establish a second moment estimate for twisted $L$-functions across all aspects over a number field. Our results yield hybrid subconvex bounds for both Hecke $L$-functions and twisted $L$-functions, comparable to the Weyl bound in suitable ranges. Moreover, we present an application of our results to address the simultaneous nonvanishing problem.

Let $P_1,\ldots, P_k\in\mathbb Z[\rm n]$ be polynomials with integer coefficients and distinct degrees. We establish pointwise almost everywhere convergence of the multilinear polynomial ergodic averages \[A_{N; X, T_1,\ldots, T_k}^{P_1,\ldots, P_k}(f_1,\ldots, f_k)(x) = \frac{1}{N}\sum_{n=1}^Nf_1\big(T_1^{P_1(n)}x\big)\cdots f_k\big(T_k^{P_k(n)}x\big), \qquad x\in X, \] as $N\to\infty$ for any functions $f_1, \ldots, f_k\in L^{\infty}(X)$. Besides a couple of results in the bilinear setting (when $k=2$ and then only for single transformations), this is the first pointwise result for general polynomial multilinear ergodic averages in arbitrary measure-preserving systems. This answers a question of Bergelson from 1996 in the affirmative for any polynomials with distinct degrees, and makes progress on the Furstenberg-Bergelson-Leibman conjecture. In this paper, we build a versatile multilinear circle method by developing the Ionescu-Wainger multiplier theory for the set of canonical fractions, which gives a positive answer to a question of Ionescu and Wainger from 2005. We also establish sharp multilinear $L^p$-improving bounds and an inverse theorem in higher order Fourier analysis for averages over polynomial corner configurations, which we use to establish a multilinear analogue of Weyl's inequality and its real counterpart, a Sobolev smoothing inequality.

Abstract:We prove a theorem that allows one to count solutions to determinant equations twisted by a periodic weight with high uniformity in the modulus. It is obtained by using spectral methods of $\operatorname{SL}_2(\mathbb{R})$ automorphic forms to study Poincaré series over congruence subgroups. By keeping track of interactions between multiple orbits we get advantages over the widely used sums of Kloosterman sums techniques. We showcase this with applications to correlations of the divisor functions twisted by periodic functions and the fourth moment of Dirichlet $L$-functions on the critical line.

Abstract:We obtain $L^p-$estimates for the full and lacunary maximal functions associated to the twisted bilinear spherical averages given by \[\mathfrak{A}_t(f_1,f_2)(x,y)=\int_{\mathbb S^{2d-1}}f_1(x+tz_1,y)f_2(x,y+tz_2)\;d\sigma(z_1,z_2),\;t>0,\] for all dimensions $d\geq1$. We show that the estimates for such operators in dimensions $d\geq2$ essentially relies on the method of slicing. The bounds for the lacunary maximal function in dimension one is more delicate and requires a trilinear smoothing inequality which is based on an appropriate sublevel set estimate in this context.

Strong Hybrid Subconvexity for Twisted Selfdual $\mathrm{GL}_3$ $L$-Functions

Abstract:We prove strong hybrid subconvex bounds simultaneously in the $q$ and $t$ aspects for $L$-functions of selfdual $\mathrm{GL}_3$ cusp forms twisted by primitive Dirichlet characters. We additionally prove analogous hybrid subconvex bounds for central values of certain $\mathrm{GL}_3 \times \mathrm{GL}_2$ Rankin-Selberg $L$-functions. The subconvex bounds that we obtain are strong in the sense that, modulo current knowledge on estimates for the second moment of $\mathrm{GL}_3$ $L$-functions, they are the natural limit of the first moment method pioneered by Li and by Blomer. The method of proof relies on an explicit $\mathrm{GL}_3 \times \mathrm{GL}_2 \leftrightsquigarrow \mathrm{GL}_4 \times \mathrm{GL}_1$ spectral reciprocity formula, which relates a $\mathrm{GL}_2$ moment of $\mathrm{GL}_3 \times \mathrm{GL}_2$ Rankin-Selberg $L$-functions to a $\mathrm{GL}_1$ moment of $\mathrm{GL}_4 \times \mathrm{GL}_1$ Rankin-Selberg $L$-functions. A key additional input is a Lindelöf-on-average upper bound for the second moment of Dirichlet $L$-functions restricted to a coset, which is of independent interest.
