Abstract:We establish the regularity theory for certain critical elliptic systems with an anti-symmetric structure under inhomogeneous Neumann and Dirichlet boundary constraints. As applications, we prove full regularity and smooth estimates at the free boundary for weakly Dirac-harmonic maps from spin Riemann surfaces. Our methods also lead to the full interior ϵ -regularity and smooth estimates for weakly Dirac-harmonic maps in all dimensions.

Abstract:In this paper we study the self-adjointness and spectral properties of two-dimensional Dirac operators with electrostatic, Lorentz scalar, and anomalous magnetic $\delta$-shell interactions with constant weights that are supported on a smooth unbounded curve that is straight outside a compact set and whose ends are rays that are not parallel to each other. For all possible combinations of interaction strengths we describe the self-adjoint realizations and compute their essential spectra. Moreover, we prove in different situations the existence of geometrically induced discrete eigenvalues.

Abstract:The eigenfunctions of the Dirac operator on spheres and real hyperbolic spaces of arbitrary dimension are computed by separating variables in geodesic polar coordinates. These eigenfunctions are then used to derive the heat kernel of the iterated Dirac operator on these spaces. They are then studied as cross sections of homogeneous vector bundles, and a group-theoretic derivation of the spinor spherical functions and heat kernel is given based on Harish-Chandra's formula for the radial part of the Casimir operator.

Abstract:We are interested in the effect of Dirichlet boundary conditions on the nodal length of Laplace eigenfunctions. We study random Gaussian Laplace eigenfunctions on the two dimensional square and find a two terms asymptotic expansion for the expectation of the nodal length in any square of side larger than the Planck scale, along a denisty one sequence of energy levels. The proof relies on a new study of lattice points in small arcs, and shows that the said expectation is independent of the position of the square, giving the same asymptotic expansion both near and far from the boundaries.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the regularity of convex solutions to the Dirichlet problem of the homogeneous Monge-Ampere equation det D(2)u = 0. We prove that if the domain is a strip region and the boundary functions are locally uniformly convex and C-k+2,C-alpha smooth, then the solution is C-k+2,C-alpha smooth up to boundary. By an example, we show the solution may fail to be C-2 smooth if boundary functions are not locally uniformly convex. Similar results have also been obtained for the Dirichlet problem on bounded convex domains.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the eigenvalue problem of Dirac operator on a compact Riemannian manifold isometrically immersed into Euclidean space and derive some extrinsic estimates for the sum of arbitrary consecutive $n$ eigenvalues of the square of the Dirac operator acting on some Dirac invariant subbundles. As some applications, we deduce some eigenvalue inequalities on the compact submanifolds immersed into Euclidean space, unit sphere or projective spaces and further get some bounds of general Reilly type. In addition, we also establish some universal bounds under certain curvature condition and on the meanwhile provide an alternative proof for Anghel's result. In particular, utilizing Atiyah-Singer index theorem, we drive an upper bound estimate for the sum of the first $n$ nontrivial eigenvalues of Atiyah-Singer Laplacian acting on the spin manifolds without dimensional assumption.

Abstract:This paper deals with a nonlinear eigenvalue problem {[ D(|Du|^p-2Du) + λ|u|^p-2u = 0, x ∈Ω;; u = 0, on ∂Ω. ] . where Ω is a bounded domain with a piecewise smooth boundary in R n , D is the Euclidean Dirac operator. We prove that this problem has at least one sequence of solutions ( u_n, λ_n ) such that || u n || p = 1. Here {λ_n} is a nondecreasing sequence which tends to ∞ as n →∞ . The eigenvalues for this problem have a positive lower bound, and the spectrum is a closed set. We also show that when p ≠ q , D(|Du|^p-2Du) + |u|^q-2u = 0, has a nontrivial solution.

Abstract:In this paper, we will study the partial regularity for stationary Dirac-harmonic maps with $$\lambda $$-curvature term. For a weakly stationary Dirac-harmonic map with $$\lambda $$-curvature term $$(\phi ,\psi )$$ from a smooth bounded open domain $$\Omega \subset {\mathbb {R}}^m$$ with $$m\ge 2$$ to a compact Riemannian manifold N, if $$\psi \in W^{1,p}(\Omega )$$ for some $$p>\frac{2m}{3}$$, we prove that $$(\phi , \psi )$$ is smooth outside a closed singular set whose $$(m-2)$$-dimensional Hausdorff measure is zero. Furthermore, if the target manifold N does not admit any harmonic sphere $$S^l$$, $$l=2,\ldots , m-1$$, then $$(\phi ,\psi )$$ is smooth.

Abstract:We study the eigenvalue problem for a one-dimensional Dirac operator with a spatially varying "mass" term. It is well-known that when the mass function has the form of a kink, or domain wall , transitioning between strictly positive and strictly negative asymptotic mass, , at , the Dirac operator has a simple eigenvalue of zero energy (geometric multiplicity equal to one) within a gap in the continuous spectrum, with corresponding exponentially localized zero mode . We consider the eigenvalue problem for the one-dimensional Dirac operator with mass function defined by "gluing" together domain wall--type transitions, assuming that the distance between transitions, , is sufficiently large, focusing on the illustrative cases and . When we prove that the Dirac operator has two real simple eigenvalues of opposite sign and of order . The associated eigenfunctions are, up to error of order , linear combinations of shifted copies of the single domain wall zero mode. For the case , we prove the Dirac operator has two nonzero simple eigenvalues as in the two domain wall case and a simple eigenvalue at energy zero. The associated eigenfunctions of these eigenvalues can again, up to small error, be expressed as linear combinations of shifted copies of the single domain wall zero mode. When no new technical difficulty arises and the result is similar. Our methods are based on a Lyapunov--Schmidt reduction/Schur complement strategy, which maps the Dirac operator eigenvalue problem for eigenstates with near-zero energies to the problem of determining the kernel of an matrix reduction, which depends nonlinearly on the eigenvalue parameter. The class of Dirac operators we consider controls the bifurcation of topologically protected "edge states" from Dirac points (linear band crossings) for classes of Schrödinger operators with domain wall modulated periodic potentials in one and two space dimensions. The present results may be used to construct a rich class of defect modes in periodic structures modulated by multiple domain walls.

We derive sufficient conditions which guarantee the stability of the spectrum against possibly non-self-adjoint potential perturbations and study the optimality of the obtained results. Finally, we establish a non-relativistic limit which makes a relationship of the present model to the Robin Laplacian on the half-line.

Abstract:The study of matter fields on an ensemble of random geometries is a difficult problem still in need of new methods and ideas. We will follow a point of view inspired by probability theory techniques that relies on an expansion of the two point function as a sum over random walks. An analogous expansion for Fermions on non-Euclidean geometries is still lacking. Casiday et al. [Laplace and Dirac operators on graphs , Linear and Multilinear Algebra (2022) 1] proposed a classical "Dirac walk" diffusing on vertices and edges of an oriented graph with a square root of the graph Laplacian. In contrast to the simple random walk, each step of the walk is given a sign depending on the orientation of the edge it goes through. In a toy model, we propose here to study the Green functions, spectrum and the spectral dimension of such "Dirac walks" on the Bethe lattice, a d-regular tree. The recursive structure of the graph makes the problem exactly solvable. Notably, we find that the spectrum develops a gap and that the spectral dimension of the Dirac walk matches that of the simple random walk (d s =1 for d=2 and d s =3 for d ≧3).

The Exact Point Spectrum and Eigenvector of the Unique Continuous L$^2(\mathbb{R}^2)$ Bound State Solution to the Dirac Delta Schrodinger Potential in Two Dimensions

Abstract:Analyzing the point spectrum, i.e. bound state energy eigenvalue, of the Dirac delta function in two and three dimensions is notoriously difficult without recourse to regularization or renormalization, typically both. The reason for this in two dimensions is two fold; 1) the coupling constant, together with the mass and Planck's constant form an unitless quantity. This causes there to be a missing anomalous length scale. 2) The immediately obvious L$^2$ solution is divergent at the origin, where the Dirac Delta potential has its important point of support as a measure. Due to the uniqueness of the solution presented here, it is immediate that the linear operator (the two dimensional Laplace operator on all of $\mathbb{R}^2$), with the specialized domain constructed here, ensures that the point spectrum has exactly one element. This element is determined precisely, and a natural mathematically rigorous resolution to the anomalous length scale arises. In this work, there is no recourse to renormalization or regularization of any kind.

On the nodal set of solutions to Dirac equations

Abstract:Motivated by various geometric problems, we study the nodal set of solutions to Dirac equations on manifolds, of general form. We prove that such set has Hausdorff dimension less than or equal to $n-2$, $n$ being the ambient dimension. We extend this result, previously known only in the smooth case or in specific cases, working with locally Lipschitz coefficients. Under some additional, but still quite general, structural assumptions we provide a stratification result for the nodal set, which appears to be new already in the smooth case. This is achieved by exploiting the properties of a suitable Almgren-type frequency function, which is of independent interest.
