Abstract:The convergence of the first order Euler scheme and an approximative variant thereof, along with convergence rates, are established for rough differential equations driven by càdlàg paths satisfying a suitable criterion, namely the so-called Property (RIE), along time discretizations with vanishing mesh size. This property is then verified for almost all sample paths of Brownian motion, Itô processes, Lévy processes and general càdlàg semimartingales, as well as the driving signals of both mixed and rough stochastic differential equations, relative to various time discretizations. Consequently, we obtain pathwise convergence in p-variation of the Euler--Maruyama scheme for stochastic differential equations driven by these processes.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The paper attempts to address the following issues: 1. **Consistency of Numerical Approximation**: The paper primarily focuses on the consistent convergence of the first-order Euler scheme for rough paths and stochastic differential equations (SDEs). Specifically, for rough differential equations (RDEs) driven by jump paths that satisfy certain conditions (referred to as Property (RIE)), the paper proves the convergence of the first-order Euler method in the sense of $p$-variation. 2. **Pathwise Consistency**: The paper points out that although the Euler method is known to converge pathwise for certain stochastic differential equations (such as SDEs driven by Brownian motion), it may not converge for general RDEs, especially those driven by fractional Brownian motion. Therefore, by introducing Property (RIE), the paper addresses this pathwise consistency issue and ensures the convergence of the Euler method. 3. **Combination of Theory and Application**: The paper not only theoretically analyzes the convergence of the Euler method but also applies it to commonly encountered stochastic processes in practice, such as Brownian motion, Itô processes, and Lévy processes, thereby providing theoretical support for the reliability and effectiveness of numerical solutions. Additionally, the paper discusses special cases of mixed SDEs and rough stochastic differential equations, further expanding its applicability. In summary, the paper aims to bridge the gap between rough path theory and numerical approximation by proposing Property (RIE) to ensure the convergence of the first-order Euler method in a broader range of scenarios, providing a solid mathematical foundation for practical applications.
