Abstract:We present analytic results for the two tennis-court integral families relevant to $2\to2$ scattering processes involving one massive external particle and massless propagators in terms of Goncharov polylogarithms of up to transcendental weight six. We also present analytic results for physical kinematics for the ladder-box family and the two tennis-court families in terms of real-valued polylogarithmic functions, making our solutions well-suited for phenomenological applications.

Two-Loop Five-Point One-Mass Amplitudes in the Spinor-Helicity Formalism

Abstract:Processes involving electroweak vector bosons in association with jets are crucial for precision studies of the Standard Model at the Large Hadron Collider. Accurate predictions for the process $pp\rightarrow V(\rightarrow\bar\ell\ell)jj$ at next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO), as well as N$^3$LO ones for the process with one fewer jet, require two-loop five-point one-mass amplitudes. These exhibit a significant increase in complexity compared to their massless counterparts. We present results for the partonic processes $\bar qQ\bar Qq\bar\ell\ell$ and $\bar qggq\bar\ell\ell$, with a forthcoming package for phenomenology. The present recalculation is based on the previous analytic results from ref. [1]. For the first time, we express two-loop five-point one-mass amplitudes in the spinor-helicity formalism. We achieve three orders of magnitude smaller expressions compared to previous results. This will facilitate phenomenological studies and help clarify mathematical properties of the amplitude.

Abstract:We apply the method of regions to the massive two-loop integrals appearing in the Higgs pair production cross section at the next-to-leading order, in the high energy limit. For the non-planar integrals, a subtle problem arises because of the indefinite sign of the second Symanzik polynomial. We solve this problem by performing an analytic continuation of the Mandelstam variables such that the second Symanzik polynomial has a definite sign. Furthermore, we formulate the procedure of applying the method of regions systematically. As a by-product of the analytic continuation of the Mandelstam variables, we obtain crossing relations between integrals in a simple and systematic way. In our formulation, a concept of "template integral" is introduced, which represents and controls the contribution of each region. All of the template integrals needed in the computation of the Higgs pair production at the next-to-leading order are given explicitly. We also develop techniques to solve Mellin-Barnes integrals, and show them in detail. Although most of the calculation is shown for the concrete example of the Higgs pair production process, the application to other similar processes is straightforward, and we anticipate that our method can be useful also for other cases.

Abstract:We provide a complete description of the two-loop infrared singularities of scattering amplitudes with an arbitrary number of massive and massless partons in non-Abelian gauge theories. To this end, we calculate the two universal functions that completely specify the structure of three-parton correlations in the soft anomalous-dimension matrix at two-loop order in closed analytic form. Both functions are found to be suppressed like O(m(4)/s(2)) in the limit of small parton masses, in accordance with mass factorization theorems. On the other hand, they are unsuppressed near the threshold for pair production of two heavy particles. As an application, we calculate the two-loop anomalous-dimension matrix for qq --> tt near threshold and show that it is not diagonal in the s-channel singlet-octet basis.
Processes $γγ\rightarrow ϕ_iϕ_j$ in Inert Higgs Doublet Models and Two Higgs Doublet Models

Abstract:In this paper, we present the results for one-loop induced processes $\gamma \gamma \rightarrow \phi_i\phi_j$ with CP-even Higgses $\phi_{i,j} \equiv h,~H$ at high energy photon-photon collision, within the frameworks of Inert Higgs Doublet Models and Two Higgs Doublet Models. Total cross-sections are shown as functions of center-of-mass energies. We find that the cross-sections for the computed processes in all the models under investigations are enhanced at around the threshold of singly charged Higgs pair ($\sim 2 M_{H^\pm}$). Furthermore, the enhancement factors defined as the ratio of cross-sections of $\gamma \gamma \rightarrow \phi_i\phi_j$ in the investigated models over the corresponding ones for $\gamma \gamma \rightarrow hh$ in the Standard Model, are examined in the model's parameter space. In the Inert Higgs Doublet Models, the factors are studied in the parameter space of $(M_{H^\pm},~\mu^2_2)$ and $(M_{H^\pm},~\lambda_2)$. In the Two Higgs Doublet Models, the factors are examined in the planes of $(M_{H^\pm},~t_{\beta})$ as well as in the space of charged Higgs mass $M_{H^\pm}$ and the soft-breaking $Z_2$ parameter $m_{12}^2$. Two scenarios of $c_{\beta-\alpha} > 0$ and $c_{\beta-\alpha} < 0$ are studied in further detail. The factors give a different behavior from considering these scenarios. As a result, discriminations for the above-mentioned scenarios can be performed at future colliders.

Abstract:We analyze in detail the most singular behaviour of processes involving triple-collinear splittings with massive particles in the quasi-collinear limit, and present compact expressions for the splitting amplitudes and the corresponding splitting kernels at the squared-amplitude level. Our expressions fully agree with well-known triple-collinear splittings in the massless limit, which are used as a guide to achieve the final expressions. These results are important to quantify dominant mass effects in many observables, and constitute an essential ingredient of current high-precision computational frameworks for collider phenomenology.

Abstract:We discuss the two-loop integrals necessary for evaluating massless 2 to 2 scattering amplitudes. As a test process, we consider the leading colour two-loop contribution to qqbar to q'qbar'. We show that for physical scattering processes the two Smirnov-Veretin planar box graphs I1 and I2 are accompanied by factors of 1/(D-4) thereby necessitating a knowledge of both I1 and I2 to O(epsilon). Using an alternative basis I1 and the irreducible numerator integral I3, the factors of 1/(D-4) disappear.

Abstract:The infrared divergences of QCD scattering amplitudes can be derived from an anomalous dimension Γ, which is a matrix in color space and depends on the momenta and masses of the external partons. It has recently been shown that in cases where there are at least two massive partons involved in the scattering process, starting at two-loop order Γ receives contributions involving color and momentum correlations between three (and more) partons. The three-parton correlations can be described by two universal functions F1 and f2. In this paper these functions are calculated at two-loop order in closed analytic form and their properties are studied in detail. Both functions are found to be suppressed like (m4/s2) in the limit of small parton masses, in accordance with mass factorization theorems proposed in the literature. On the other hand, both functions are (1) and even diverge logarithmically near the threshold for pair production of two heavy particles. As an application, we calculate the infrared poles in the q → t and gg → t scattering amplitudes at two-loop order.

Abstract:The two-loop massive operator matrix elements for the fermionic local twist--2 operators with external massive fermion lines in Quantum Electrodynamics (QED) are calculated up to the constant terms in the dimensional parameter $\epsilon = D - 4$. We investigate the hypothesis of Ref. \cite{BBN} that the 2--loop QED initial state corrections to $e^+e^-$ annihilation into a virtual neutral gauge boson, except power corrections of $O((m_f^2/s)^k), k \geq 1$, can be represented in terms of these matrix elements and the massless 2-loop Wilson coefficients of the Drell-Yan process.

Absorbing state transitions with long-range annihilation

Abstract:We introduce a family of classical stochastic processes describing diffusive particles undergoing branching and long-range annihilation in the presence of a parity constraint. The probability for a pair-annihilation event decays as a power-law in the distance between particles, with a tunable exponent. Such long-range processes arise naturally in various classical settings, such as chemical reactions involving reagents with long-range electromagnetic interactions. They also increasingly play a role in the study of quantum dynamics, in which certain quantum protocols can be mapped to classical stochastic processes with long-range interactions: for example, state preparation or error correction processes aim to prepare ordered ground states, which requires removing point-like excitations in pairs via non-local feedback operations conditioned on a global set of measurement outcomes. We analytically and numerically describe features of absorbing phases and phase transitions in this family of classical models as pairwise annihilation is performed at larger and larger distances. Notably, we find that the two canonical absorbing-state universality classes -- directed-percolation and parity-conserving -- are endpoints of a line of universality classes with continuously interpolating critical exponents.

Abstract:We present numerical results for the two-loop virtual amplitude entering the NNLO corrections to Higgs boson production in association with a top quark pair at the LHC, focusing, as a proof of concept of our method, on the part of the quark-initiated channel containing loops of massless or massive quarks. Results for the UV renormalised and IR subtracted two-loop amplitude for each colour structure are given at selected phase-space points and visualised in terms of surfaces as a function of two-dimensional slices of the full phase space.

Abstract:We propose formulae for computing the phase space integrals of $1\to 3$ and $1\to 4$ processes with massive particles in final states. As an application of these formulae we study the final state mass effects in some interesting phenomenological cases, giving fully integrated analytic results for the corresponding phase spaces. We consider also the $B_s-\bar{B}_s$ process at NNLO and calculate one of the most complicated master integrals, which contributes to the $\Delta\Gamma_{B_s}$ at $O(\alpha_s^2)$.

Accessing Generalized Parton Distributions through $2 \to 3$ exclusive processes

Abstract:We review our results on a new class of $2 \to 3$ exclusive processes, as a probe of both chiral-even and chiral-odd quark GPDs. We consider the exclusive photoproduction of a photon-meson pair, in the kinematics where the pair has a large invariant mass, described in the collinear factorization framework. We cover the whole kinematical range from medium energies in fixed target experiments to very large energies of colliders, by considering the experimental conditions of JLab 12-GeV, COMPASS, future EIC and LHC (in ultra-peripheral collisions) cases. Our analysis covers neutral and charged rho-mesons, as well as charged pions. The case of the rho-meson, depending on its polarization, provides access to either chiral-even or chiral-odd GPDs, at leading twist. We find that the order of magnitude of the obtained cross sections are sufficiently large for a dedicated experimental analysis to be performed, especially at JLab. Furthermore, we compute the linear photon beam polarization asymmetry, which we find to be sizeable, in the case of a longitudinally polarized $\rho$-meson or of a charged pion. These predictions are obtained for both asymptotic distribution amplitude (DA) and holographic DA.

A consistent resummation of mass and soft logarithms in processes with heavy flavours

Abstract:Perturbative calculations for processes that involve heavy flavours can be performed in two approaches: the massive scheme and the massless one. The former enables one to fully account for the heavy-quark kinematics, while the latter allows one to resum potentially-large mass logarithms. Furthermore, the two schemes can be combined to take advantage of the virtues of each of them. Both massive and massless calculations can be supplemented by soft-gluon resummation. However matching between massive and massless resummed calculations is difficult, essentially because of the non-commutativity of the soft and massless limits. In this paper, we develop a formalism to combine resummed massless and massive calculations. We obtain an all-order expression that consistently resums both mass and soft logarithms to next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. We perform detailed calculations for the decay of the Higgs into a heavy-quark pair and discuss the applications of this formalism to different processes.

Two-loop amplitudes in massless QCD for diphoton-plus-jet production via gluon fusion at hadron colliders

Abstract:The ability to calculate analytic full-colour two-to-three two-loop helicity amplitudes in massless QCD has been a recent triumph of the field, driving phenomenology towards one percent precision. In this contribution, we focus on the virtual correction of diphoton-plus-jet production via gluon fusion, $gg\to g\gamma\gamma$. We outline state-of-the-art strategies to optimise the reconstruction over finite fields of the rational coefficients of the amplitude. We also present an updated performance analysis of our publicly-available C++ implementation of the amplitude, demonstrating its typical speed and stability, and study its stability in infrared regions of phase space. These results are relevant for improving predictions in Higgs physics at hadron colliders.

The kinematics mapping is chosen such as to to reflect the symmetry of the final state in soft-gluon radiation and collinear splitting processes. We compute the counterterms needed for a fully differential NLO matching and discuss the analytic structure of the parton shower in the NLL limit. We implement the new algorithm in the numerical code Alaric and present a first comparison to experimental data.

Abstract:A bstract We present the analytic and compact two-loop helicity amplitudes for QCD and QED corrections to the light-by-light scattering process with massive internal fermions. We express the master integrals either in terms of multiple polylogarithms or in terms of iterated integrals with dlog one-forms. We also elaborate on optimising the analytic results for each phase-space region. This makes the numerical evaluation of the scattering amplitudes fast, stable and suitable for phenomenological applications.

Glauber Phases in Non-Global LHC Observables: Resummation for Quark-Initiated Processes

Abstract:It has been known for many years that jet cross sections at hadron colliders exhibit double-logarithmic corrections starting at four-loop order, arising from two soft Glauber-gluon interactions between the two colliding partons. The resummation of these "super-leading logarithms" has been achieved only recently by means of a renormalization-group treatment in soft-collinear effective theory. We generalize this result and, within the same framework and for quark-initiated processes, resum the double logarithms arising in the presence of an arbitrary number of Glauber-gluon exchanges. For typical choices of parameters, the higher-order Glauber terms give rise to corrections which are expected to be numerically of the same magnitude as the super-leading logarithms. However, we find that the Glauber series for jet cross sections is dominated by the two-Glauber contribution, if the colliding partons are quarks or anti-quarks.
