Abstract:<h3 class="a-plus-plus">Abstract</h3> <p class="a-plus-plus">Motivated by gauge theory, we develop a general framework for chain complex-valued algebraic quantum field theories. Building upon our recent operadic approach to this subject, we show that the category of such theories carries a canonical model structure and explain the important conceptual and also practical consequences of this result. As a concrete application, we provide a derived version of Fredenhagen’s universal algebra construction, which is relevant e.g. for the BRST/BV formalism. We further develop a homotopy theoretical generalization of algebraic quantum field theory with a particular focus on the homotopy-coherent Einstein causality axiom. We provide examples of such homotopy-coherent theories via (1) smooth normalized cochain algebras on <span class="a-plus-plus inline-equation id-i-eq1"> <span class="a-plus-plus equation-source format-t-e-x">$\infty $</span> </span>-stacks, and (2) fiber-wise groupoid cohomology of a category fibered in groupoids with coefficients in a strict quantum field theory.</p>

Cohomological field theories and generalized Seiberg-Witten equations

Abstract:We introduce a formalism for constructing cohomological field theories (CohFT) out of nonlinear PDEs based on the first author's previous work (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2202.12425" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2202.12425">arXiv:2202.12425</a>). We apply the formalism to the generalized Seiberg-Witten equations and show that the obtained CohFT functionals agree with the existing ones proposed by physicists. This leads to a unified perspective from which to view the full supersymmetric functionals of the Donaldson-Witten, Seiberg-Witten, and Kapustin-Witten theories and understand the relations between them. We also outline a quantization program for our framework and discuss its potential to produce manifold invariants and quantum cohomologies.

Abstract: This note gives an introduction to Lagrangian field theories in the presence of boundaries. After an overview of the classical aspects, the cohomological formalisms to resolve singularities in the bulk and in the boundary theories (the BV and the BFV formalisms, respectively) are recalled. One of the goals here (and in [arXiv:1201.0290]) is to show how the latter two formalisms can be put together in a consistent way, also in view of perturbative quantization.
Algebraic structures in Lagrangian Floer cohomology modelled on differential forms

Abstract:We define a structure of an algebra on the Lagrangian Floer cohomology of a Lagrangian submanifold over the quantum cohomology of the ambient symplectic manifold. The structure is analogous to the one defined by Biran-Cornea, but is constructed in the differential forms model. In the spirit of Ganatra and Hugtenburg, we define another such algebra structure using a closed-open map. We show that the two structures coincide. As an application, we show that the module structure for the 2-dimensional Clifford torus is given by multiplication by a Novikov coefficient, similarly to the Biran-Cornea module structure for this case.

Notes on the $L_\infty$-approach to local gauge field theories

Abstract:It is well known that a $Q$-manifold gives rise to an $L_\infty$-algebra structure on the tangent space at a fixed point of the homological vector field. From the field theory perspective this implies that the expansion of a classical Batalin-Vilkovisky (BV) formulation around a vacuum solution can be equivalently cast into the form of an $L_\infty$-algebra. In so doing, the BV symplectic structure determines a compatible cyclic structure on the $L_\infty$-algebra. Moreover, $L_\infty$ quasi-isomorphisms correspond to so-called equivalent reductions (also known as the elimination of generalized auxiliary fields) of the respective BV systems. Although at the formal level the relation is straightforward, its implementation in field theory requires some care because the underlying spaces become infinite-dimensional. In the case of local gauge theories, the relevant spaces can be approximated by nearly finite-dimensional ones through employing the jet-bundle technique. In this work we study the $L_\infty$-counterpart of the jet-bundle BV approach and generalise it to a more flexible setup of so-called gauge PDEs. It turns out that in the latter case the underlying $L_\infty$-structure is analogous to that of Chern-Simons theory. In particular, the underlying linear space is a module over the space-time exterior algebra and the higher $L_\infty$-maps are multilinear. Furthermore, a counterpart of the cyclic structure turns out to be degenerate and possibly nonlinear, and corresponds to a compatible presymplectic structure which is known to encode the BV symplectic structure and hence the full-scale Lagrangian BV formulation. Moreover, given a degenerate cyclic structure one can consistently relax the $L_\infty$-axioms in such a way that the formalism still describes non-topological models but involves only finitely-generated modules, as we illustrate in the example of Yang-Mills theory.

Abstract:Field Theories in Physics can be formulated giving a local Lagrangian density. Locality is imposed using the infinite jet bundle. That bundle is viewed as a pro-finite dimensional smooth manifold and that point of view has been compared to different topological and Frechét structures on it. A category of local (insular) manifolds has been constructed. Noether's second theorem is reviewed and the notion of Lie pseudogroups is explored using these concepts. The L-infinity algebra of local observables is defined depending only on the cohomology of the Lagrangian (using a result in multisymplectic manifold which has been extended to the local category). That local pre-multisymplectic form, called the Poincaré-Cartan can be thought of as a coordinate free, cohomological version of other similar structures in the field.

Abstract:String backgrounds are described as purely geometric objects related to moduli spaces of Riemann surfaces, in the spirit of Segal's definition of a conformal field theory. Relations with conformal field theory, topological field theory and topological gravity are studied. For each field theory, an algebraic counterpart, the (homotopy) algebra satisfied by the tree level correlators, is constructed.
Towards non-perturbative BV-theory via derived differential geometry

Abstract:We propose a global geometric framework which allows one to encode a natural non-perturbative generalisation of usual Batalin-Vilkovisky (BV-)theory. Namely, we construct a concrete model of derived differential geometry, whose geometric objects are formal derived smooth stacks, i.e. stacks on formal derived smooth manifolds, together with a notion of differential geometry on them. This provides a working language to study generalised geometric spaces that are smooth, infinite-dimensional, higher and derived at the same time. Such a formalism is obtained by combining Schreiber's differential cohesion with the machinery of Töen-Vezzosi's homotopical algebraic geometry applied to the theory of derived manifolds of Spivak and Carchedi-Steffens. We investigate two classes of examples of non-perturbative classical BV-theories in the context of derived differential cohesion: scalar field theory and Yang-Mills theory.

Abstract:We present a general formalism for higher dimensional versions of lattice gauge fields based on higher strict homotopy groupoids. First, using the language of nonabelian Algebraic Topology, we define local lattice higher gauge fields. Then, we provide local-to-global principles for lattice higher gauge fields based on the HHSvK theorem. We prove that, under the correct assumptions, lattice higher gauge field as presented here, subsumes both the notion of extended lattice gauge field and other notions of higher lattice gauge field present in the literature.

Abstract:We introduce a new logarithmic structure on the moduli stack of stable curves, admitting logarithmic gluing maps. Using this we define cohomological field theories taking values in the logarithmic Chow cohomology ring, a refinement of the usual notion of a cohomological field theory. We realise the double ramification cycle as a partial logarithmic cohomological field theory.

Abstract:We explore new connections between the fields and local observables in two dimensional chiral conformal field theory. We show that in a broad class of examples, the von Neumann algebras of local observables (a conformal net) can be obtained from the fields (a unitary vertex operator algebra) via a continuous geometric interpolation procedure involving Graeme Segal's functorial definition of conformal field theory. In particular, we construct conformal nets from these unitary vertex operator algebras by showing that 'geometrically mollified' versions of the fields yield bounded, local operators on the Hilbert space completion of the vertex algebra. This work is inspired by Henriques' picture of conformal nets arising from degenerate Riemann surfaces.

Homotopy BV-algebras in Hermitian geometry

Abstract:We show that the de Rham complex of any almost Hermitian manifold carries a natural commutative $BV_\infty$-algebra structure satisfying the degeneration property. In the almost Kähler case, this recovers Koszul's BV-algebra, defined for any Poisson manifold. As a consequence, both the Dolbeault and the de Rham cohomologies of any compact Hermitian manifold are canonically endowed with homotopy hypercommutative algebra structures, also known as formal homotopy Frobenius manifolds. Similar results are developed for (almost) symplectic manifolds with Lagrangian subbundles.

Homological Link Invariants from Floer Theory

Abstract:There is a generalization of Heegaard-Floer theory from ${\mathfrak{gl}}_{1|1}$ to other Lie (super)algebras $^L{\mathfrak{g}}$. The corresponding category of A-branes is solvable explicitly and categorifies quantum $U_q(^L{\mathfrak{g}})$ link invariants. The theory was discovered in \cite{A1,A2}, using homological mirror symmetry. It has novel features, including equivariance and, if $^L{\mathfrak{g}} \neq {\mathfrak{gl}}_{1|1}$, coefficients in categories. In this paper, we describe the theory and how it is solved in detail in the two simplest cases: the ${\mathfrak{gl}}_{1|1}$ theory itself, categorifying the Alexander polynomial, and the ${\mathfrak{su}}_{2}$ theory, categorifying the Jones polynomial. Our approach to solving the theory is new, even in the familiar ${\mathfrak{gl}}_{1|1}$ case.

Abstract:We discuss relations of Vafa's quantum cohomology with Floer's homology theory, introduce equivariant quantum cohomology, formulate some conjectures about its general properties and, on the basis of these conjectures, compute quantum cohomology algebras of the flag manifolds. The answer turns out to coincide with the algebra of regular functions on an invariant lagrangian variety of a Toda lattice.

Abstract:We explicitly construct an L$_\infty$ algebra that defines U$_{\star}(1)$ gauge transformations on a space with an arbitrary non-commutative and even non-associative star product. Matter fields are naturally incorporated in this scheme as L$_\infty$ modules. Some possibilities for including P$_\infty$ algebras are also discussed.

Abstract:We present three Lagrangian algebras in the modular 2-category associated to the 3+1D Z(2) topological order and discuss their physical interpretations, connecting algebras with gapped boundary conditions, and interestingly, maps (braided autoequivalences) exchanging algebras with bulk domain walls. A Lagrangian algebra, together with its modules and local modules, encapsulates detailed physical data of strings condensing at a gapped boundary. In particular, the condensed strings can terminate at boundaries in non-trivial ways. This phenomenon has no lower dimensional analogue and corresponds to novel mathematical structures associated to higher algebras. We provide a layered construction and also explicit lattice realizations of these boundaries and illustrate the correspondence between physics and mathematics of these boundary conditions. This is a first detailed study of the mathematics of Lagrangian algebras in modular 2-categories and their corresponding physics, that brings together rich phenomena of string condensations, gapped boundaries and domain walls in 3+1D topological orders.

Abstract:We systematically extend the elementary differential and Riemannian geometry of classical -gauge theory to the noncommutative setting by combining recent advances in noncommutative Riemannian geometry with the theory of coherent -groups. We show that Hermitian line bimodules with Hermitian bimodule connection over a unital pre- -algebra with -exterior algebra form a coherent -group, and we prove that weak monoidal functors between coherent -groups canonically define bar or involutive monoidal functors in the sense of Beggs–Majid and Egger, respectively. Using this, we prove that a suitable Hermitian line bimodule with Hermitian bimodule connection yields an essentially unique differentiable quantum principal -bundle with principal connection and vice versa ; here, is -deformed for a numerical invariant of the bimodule connection. Finally, we formulate and solve the interrelated lifting problems for noncommutative Riemannian structure in terms of abstract Hodge star operators and formal spectral triples, respectively; all the while, we account precisely for emergent modular phenomena. Thus, the spin Dirac spectral triple on quantum does not lift to a non-pathological twisted spectral triple on -dimensional quantum , but its formal lift nonetheless induces Kaad–Kyed's compact quantum metric space on quantum for a canonical choice of parameters.

Lagrangian Relations and Quantum $L_\infty$ Algebras

Abstract:Quantum $L_\infty$ algebras are higher loop generalizations of cyclic $L_\infty$ algebras. Motivated by the problem of defining morphisms between such algebras, we construct a linear category of $(-1)$-shifted symplectic vector spaces and distributional half-densities, originally proposed by Ševera. Morphisms in this category can be given both by formal half-densities and Lagrangian relations; we prove that the composition of such morphisms recovers the construction of homotopy transfer of quantum $L_\infty$ algebras. Finally, using this category, we propose a new notion of a relation between quantum $L_\infty$ algebras.

Abstract:In this paper, we initiate the study of the Givental group action on Cohomological Field Theories in terms of homotopical algebra. More precisely, we show that the stabilisers of Topological Field Theories in genus 0 (respectively in genera 0 and 1) are in one-to-one correspondence with commutative homotopy Batalin--Vilkovisky algebras (respectively wheeled commutative homotopy BV-algebras).

Abstract:Homology theories categorifying quantum group link invariants are known to be governed by the representation theory of quiver Hecke algebras, also called KLRW algebras. Here we show that certain cylindrical KLRW algebras, relevant in particular for cylindrical generalizations of link homology theories, can be realized by Lagrangian Floer homology in multiplicative Coulomb branches. This confirms a homological mirror symmetry prediction of the first author.
