Abstract:We derive a dyadic model operator for the Riesz vector. We show linear lower $L^p$ bounds for $1 < p < \infty$ between this model operator and the Riesz vector, when applied to functions with values in Banach spaces. By a lower bound we mean that the boundedness of the Riesz vector implies the boundedness of the dydic Riesz vector.

Abstract:This paper extends the well-known Ringrose theory for compact operators to polynomially Riesz operators on Banach spaces. The particular case of an ideal-triangularizable Riesz operator on an order continuous Banach lattice yields that the spectrum of such operator lies on its diagonal, which motivates the systematic study of an abstract diagonal of a regular operator on an order complete vector lattice E . We prove that the class of regular operators for which the diagonal coincides with the atomic diagonal is always a band in , which contains the band of abstract integral operators. If E is also a Banach lattice, then contains positive Riesz and positive AM-compact operators.

Abstract:We introduce a notion of Ricci curvature lower bound for symmetric sub-Markovian semigroups. We use this notion to investigate functional calculus of the Hodge-Dirac operator associated to the semigroup in link with the boundedness of suitable Riesz transforms. Our paper offers a unified framework that not only encapsulates existing results in some contexts but also yields new findings in others. This is demonstrated through applications in the frameworks of Riemannian manifolds, compact (quantum) groups, noncommutative tori, Ornstein-Uhlenbeck semigroup, $q$-Ornstein-Uhlenbeck semigroups and semigroups of Schur multipliers. We also provide an $\mathrm{L}^p$-Poincaré inequality that is applicable to all previously discussed contexts under assumptions of boundedness of Riesz transforms and uniform exponential stability. Finally, we prove the boundedness of some Riesz transforms in some contexts as compact Lie groups.

Abstract:Let $\Delta_\lambda$ be the Bessel operator on the upper half space $\mathbb{R}_+^{n+1}$ with $n\geq 0$ and $\lambda>0$, and $R_{\lambda,j}$ be the $j-$th Bessel Riesz transform, $j=1,\ldots,n+1$. We demonstrate that the Schatten--Lorentz norm ($S^{p,q}$, $1<p<\infty$, $1\leq q\leq \infty$) of the commutator $[b,R_{\lambda,j}]$ can be characterized in terms of the oscillation space norm of the symbol $b$. In particular, for the case $p=q$, the Schatten norm of $[b,R_{\lambda,j}]$ can be further characterized in terms of the Besov norm of the symbol. Moreover, the critical index is also studied, which is $p=n+1$, the lower dimension of the Bessel measure (but not the upper dimension). Our approach relies on martingale and dyadic analysis, which enables us to bypass the use of Fourier analysis effectively.

The scalar $T1$ theorem for pairs of doubling measures fails for Riesz transforms when p not 2

Abstract:We show that for an individual Riesz transform in the setting of doubling measures, the scalar $T1$ theorem fails when $p \neq 2$: for each $ p \in (1, \infty) \setminus \{2\}$, we construct a pair of doubling measures $(\sigma, \omega)$ on $\mathbb{R}^2$ with doubling constant close to that of Lebesgue measure that also satisfy the scalar $\mathcal{A}_p$ condition and the full scalar $L^p$-testing conditions for an individual Riesz transform $R_j$, and yet $\left ( R_j \right )_{\sigma} : L^p (\sigma) \not \to L^p (\omega)$. On the other hand, a quadratic, or vector-valued, $T1$ theorem holds when $p \neq 2$ on pairs of doubling measures. Namely, we improve upon the quadratic $T1$ theorem of Sawyer-Wick and dispense with their vector-valued weak boundedness property to show that for pairs of doubling measures, the two-weight $L^p$ norm inequality for the vector Riesz transform is characterized by a quadratic Muckenhoupt condition $A_{p} ^{\ell^2, \operatorname{local}}$, and a quadratic testing condition. Finally, in the appendix, we use constructions of \cite{KaTr} to show that the two-weight norm inequality for the maximal function cannot be characterized solely by the $A_p$ condition when the measures are doubling, contrary to reports in the literature.

Some remarks on Riesz transform on exterior Lipschitz domains

Abstract:Let $n\ge2$ and $\mathcal{L}=-\mathrm{div}(A\nabla\cdot)$ be an elliptic operator on $\mathbb{R}^n$. Given an exterior Lipschitz domain $\Omega$, let $\mathcal{L}_D$ be the elliptic operator $\mathcal{L}$ on $\Omega$ subject to the Dirichlet boundary condition. Previously it was known that the Riesz operator $\nabla \mathcal{L}_D^{-1/2}$ is not bounded for $p>2$ and $p\ge n$, even if $\mathcal{L}=-\Delta$ being the Laplace operator and $\Omega$ being a domain outside a ball. Suppose that $A$ are CMO coefficients or VMO coefficients satisfying certain perturbation property, and $\partial\Omega$ is $C^1$, we prove that for $p>2$ and $p\in [n,\infty)$, it holds $$ \inf_{\phi\in\mathcal{K}_p(\mathcal{L}_D^{1/2})}\left\|\nabla (f-\phi)\right\|_{L^p(\Omega)}\sim \inf_{\phi\in\mathcal{K}_p(\mathcal{L}_D^{1/2})}\left\|\mathcal{L}^{1/2}_D (f-\phi)\right\|_{L^p(\Omega)} $$ for $f\in \dot{W}^{1,p}_0(\Omega)$. Here $\mathcal{K}_p(\mathcal{L}_D^{1/2})$ is the kernel of $\mathcal{L}_D^{1/2}$ in $\dot{W}^{1,p}_0(\Omega)$, which coincides with $\tilde{\mathcal{A}}^p_0(\Omega):=\{f\in \dot{W}^{1,p}_0(\Omega):\,\mathcal{L}_Df=0\}$ and is a one dimensional subspace. As an application, we provide a substitution of $L^p$-boundedness of $\sqrt{t}\nabla e^{-t\mathcal{L}_D}$ which is uniform in $t$ for $p\ge n$ and $p>2$.

Abstract:In this paper a representation is given for the Drazin inverse of a 2 × 2 operator matrix, extending to Banach spaces results of Hartwig, Li and Wei [SIAM J. Matrix Anal. Appl., 27 (2006) pp. 757–771]. Also, formulae are derived for the Drazin inverse of an operator matrix M under some new conditions.

Abstract:Riesz homomorphisms on vector lattices have been generalized to Riesz* homomorphisms on ordered vector spaces by van Haandel using a condition on sets of finitely many elements. Van Haandel attempted to prove that it suffices to take sets of two elements. We show that this is not true, in general. The description by two elements motivates to introduce mild Riesz* homomorphisms. We investigate their properties on order unit spaces, where the geometry of the dual cone plays a crucial role. Hereby, we mostly focus on the finite-dimensional case.

Abstract:We continue the study of level numbers and level vectors of a bounded linear operator between normed linear spaces. We prove that every linear operator on a finite-dimensional polyhedral Banach space possesses only finitely many level numbers. We also explore the level numbers of weighted permutation operators between lp spaces. Furthermore, we introduce the concept of approximate level numbers and study its properties and relation with level numbers. In particular, our results indicate that the concept of level numbers can be potentially applied to the spectral theory of operators, in the setting of normed linear spaces.

Abstract:Let ${\mathscr{L}}=-\text{div}A\nabla$ be a uniformly elliptic operator on $\mathbb{R}^n$, $n\ge 2$. Let $\Omega$ be an exterior Lipschitz domain, and let ${\mathscr{L}}_D$ and ${\mathscr{L}}_N$ be the operator ${\mathscr{L}}$ on $\Omega$ subject to the Dirichlet and Neumann boundary values, respectively. We establish the boundedness of the Riesz transforms $\nabla{\mathscr{L}}_D^{-1/2}$, $\nabla {\mathscr{L}}_N^{-1/2}$ in $L^p$ spaces. As a byproduct, we show the reverse inequality $\|{\mathscr{L}}_D^{1/2}f\|_{L^p(\Omega)}\le C\|\nabla f\|_{L^p(\Omega)}$ holds for any $1<p<\infty$. The proof can be generalized to show the boundedness of the Riesz transforms, for operators with VMO coefficients on exterior Lipschitz or $C^1$ domains. The estimates can be also applied to the inhomogeneous Dirichlet and Neumann problems. These results are new even for the Dirichlet and Neumann of the Laplacian operator on the exterior Lipschitz and $C^1$ domains.

Abstract:We give a Hahn-Jordan decomposition in Riesz spaces which generalizes that of [B.A. Watson, An Andô-Douglas type theorem in Riesz spaces with a conditional expectation, Positivity , 13 (2009), 543–558] and a Riesz-Frechet representation theorem for the T -strong dual, where T is a Riesz space conditional expectation operator. The result of Watson was formulated specifically to assist in the proof of the existence of Riesz space conditional expectation operators with given range space, i.e., a result of Andô-Douglas type. This was needed in the study of Markov processes and martingale theory in Riesz spaces. In the current work, our interest is a Riesz-Frechet representation theorem, for which another variant of the Hahn-Jordan decomposition is required.

Abstract:In this paper we characterise the pointwise size and regularity estimates for the Dunkl Riesz transform kernel involving both the Euclidean metric and the Dunkl metric, where these two metrics are not equivalent. We further establish a suitable version of the pointwise kernel lower bound of the Dunkl Riesz transform via the Euclidean metric only. Then we show that the lower bound of commutator of the Dunkl Riesz transform is with respect to the BMO space associated with the Euclidean metric, and that the upper bound is respect to the BMO space associated with the Dunkl metric. Moreover, the compactness and the two types of VMO are also addressed.

Abstract:Let $M$ be a complete Riemannian manifold satisfying a weighted Poincaré inequality, and let $\mathcal{E}$ be a Hermitian vector bundle over $M$ equipped with a metric covariant derivative $\nabla$. We consider the operator $H_{X,V}=\nabla^{\dagger}\nabla+\nabla_{X}+ V$, where $\nabla^{\dagger}$ is the formal adjoint of $\nabla$ with respect to the inner product in the space of square-integrable sections of $\mathcal{E}$, $X$ is a smooth (real) vector field on $M$, and $V$ is a fiberwise self-adjoint, smooth section of the endomorphism bundle $\textrm{End }\mathcal{E}$. We give a sufficient condition for the triviality of the $L^2$-kernel of $H_{X,V}$. As a corollary, putting $X\equiv 0$ and working in the setting of a Clifford module equipped with a Clifford connection $\nabla$, we obtain the triviality of the $L^2$-kernel of $D^2$, where $D$ is the Dirac operator corresponding to $\nabla$. In particular, when $\mathcal{E}=\Lambda_{\mathbb{C}}^{k}T^*M$ and $D^2$ is the Hodge--deRham Laplacian on (complex-valued) $k$-forms, we recover some recent vanishing results for $L^2$-harmonic (complex-valued) $k$-forms.

Abstract:Apply the $L^2$ technique developed by Deng-Ning-Wang-Zhou,we give a new characterization of Nakano $q$-positivity for Riemannian flat vector bundle in the sense of $L^2 $ estimate for the $d$ operator. We also give a new characterization of the positivity of the curvature operator associated to the Riemannian metric on manifold in a local version in the sense of $L^2$ estimate. Then we prove two results parallel to Liu-Yang-Zhou's answer to Lempert's question to Hermitian holomorphic vector bundle. We also study the boundary convexity of relative compact domain in certain Riemannian manifold with convexity restrictions.

Abstract:We develop several Euclidean operator radius bounds for the product of two $d$-tuple operators using positivity criteria of a $2\times 2$ block matrix whose entries are $d$-tuple operators. From these bounds, by using the polar decomposition of operators, we obtain Euclidean operator radius bounds for $d$-tuple operators. Among many other interesting bounds, it is shown that \begin{eqnarray*} w_e(\mathbf{A}) &\leq&\frac1{\sqrt2} \mathbf{A}\|^{1/2}\sqrt{\left\|\sum_{k=1}^{d} (|A_k|+|A_k^*|)\right\|}, \end{eqnarray*} where $w_e(\mathbf{A})$ and $\|\mathbf{A}\|$ are the Euclidean operator radius and the Euclidean operator norm, respectively, of a $d$-tuple operator $\mathbf{A}=(A_1,A_2, \ldots,A_d).$ Further, we develop an upper bound for the Euclidean operator radius of $n\times n$ operator matrix whose entries are $d$-tuple operators. Abstract:Given any complete Riemannian manifold $M$, we prove that for every $p \in (1, 2]$ and every $\epsilon > 0$, $$ \| \nabla f \|_p^2 \le C_\epsilon \| \Delta^{\frac{1}{2} + \epsilon} f \|_{p}\| \Delta^{\frac{1}{2} - \epsilon} f \|_{p}.$$The estimate is dimension free. This inequality is even proved in the abstract setting of generators of sub-Markov semigroups.
