Abstract:Let Mn(n ≥ 4) be an oriented compact submanifold with parallel mean curvature in an (n + p)-dimensional complete simply connected Riemannian manifold Nn+p. Then there exists a constant δ(n, p) 2 (0, 1) such that if the sectional curvature of N satisfies $${\overline K _N} \in \;\,\left[ {\delta \left( {n,p} \right),\;1} \right]$$, and if M has a lower bound for Ricci curvature and an upper bound for scalar curvature, then N is isometric to Sn+p. Moreover, M is either a totally umbilic sphere $${S^n}({1 \over {\sqrt {1 + {H^2}} }})$$, a Clifford hypersurface $${S^m}({1 \over {\sqrt {2(1 + {H^2})} }})\; \times \;{S^m}({1 \over {\sqrt {2(1 + {H^2})} }})$$ in the totally umbilic sphere $${S^{n+1}}({1 \over {\sqrt {1 + {H^2}} }})$$ with n = 2m, or $${\mathbb{C}{\rm{P}}^2}\left( {{4 \over 3}\left( {1 + {H^2}} \right)} \right)$$ in $${S^7}({1 \over {\sqrt {1 + {H^2}} }})$$. This is a generalization of Ejiri’s rigidity theorem.

Abstract:Let M be an n-dimensional oriented compact submanifold with parallel mean curvature in the unit sphere $S^{n+p}$. Denote by H and S the mean curvature and the squared length of the second fundamental form of M, respectively. We obtain a classification theorem of M if it satisfies $S+\lambda _2\le \alpha (n,H)$, where $\lambda _{2}$ is the second largest eigenvalue of the fundamental matrix and $\alpha (n,H)$ is defined as in Theorem B.

Abstract:Let x : M-m --> S-n be a submanifold in the n-dimensional sphere S' without umbilics. Two basic invariants of x under the Mobius transformation group in S' are a I-form 0 called the Mobius form and a symmetric (0, 2) tensor A called the Blaschke tensor. x is said to be Mobius isotropic in S-n if Phi = 0 and A = lambdadx (.) dx for some smooth function lambda. An interesting property for a Mobius isotropic submanifold is that its conformal Gauss map is harmonic. The main result in this paper is the classification of Mobius isotropic submanifolds in S-n. We show that (i) if lambda > 0, then x is Mobius equivalent to a minimal submanifold with constant scalar curvature in S-n; (ii) if lambda = 0, then x is Mobius equivalent to the preimage of a stereographic projection of a minimal submanifold with constant scalar curvature in the n-dimensional Euclidean space R-n; (iii) if lambda < 0, then x is Mobius equivalent to the image of the standard conformal map tau : H-n --> S-+(n) of a minimal submanifold with constant scalar curvature in the n-dimensional hyperbolic space H-n. This result shows that one can use Mobius differential geometry to unify the three different classes of minimal submanifolds with constant scalar curvature in S-n, R-n and H-n.

Abstract:International Journal of Mathematics, Ahead of Print. Let [math] be an [math]-dimensional oriented compact submanifold with constant normalized scalar curvature [math] in the space form [math]. Denote by [math] and [math] the mean curvature and the Ricci curvature of [math] respectively. By applying Cheng-Yau's self-adjoint operator, we first prove that if [math] is a hypersurface in a unit sphere, and [math], then [math] is totally umbilical. Furthermore, we investigate the submanifolds in [math] with flat normal bundle satisfying [math], and obtain a complete classification theorem.

Abstract:Let M be an n-dimensional submanifold in the simply connected space form F n+p (c) with c + H 2 > 0, where H is the mean curvature of M. We verify that if M n (n ≥ 3) is an oriented compact submanifold with parallel mean curvature and its Ricci curvature satisfies Ric M ≥ (n − 2)(c + H 2), then M is either a totally umbilic sphere, a Clifford hypersurface in an (n + 1)-sphere with n = even, or ${\mathbb{C}P^{2} \left(\frac{4}{3}(c + H^{2})\right) {\rm in} S^{7} \left(\frac{1}{\sqrt{c + H^{2}}}\right)}$. In particular, if Ric M > (n − 2)(c + H 2), then M is a totally umbilic sphere. We then prove that if M n (n ≥ 4) is a compact submanifold in F n+p (c) with c ≥ 0, and if Ric M > (n − 2)(c + H 2), then M is homeomorphic to a sphere. It should be emphasized that our pinching conditions above are sharp. Finally, we obtain a differentiable sphere theorem for submanifolds with positive Ricci curvature.

Abstract:Let $x:{\bf M}^m\rightarrow {\bf S}^{m+1}$ be a hypersurface in the (m+1)-dimensional unit sphere S m+1 without umbilics. Four basic invariants of x under the Möbius transformation group in S m+1 are a Riemannian metric g called Möbius metric, a 1-form Φ called Möbius form, a symmetric (0,2) tensor A called Blaschke tensor and symmetric (0,2) tensor B called Möbius second fundamental form. In this paper, we prove the following classification theorem: let $x:{\bf M}^m\rightarrow {\bf S}^{m+1}$ be a hypersurface, which satisfies (i) Φ≡0, (ii) A+λg+μB≡0 for some functions λ and μ, then λ and μ must be constant, and x is Möbius equivalent to either (i) a hypersurface with constant mean curvature and scalar curvature in S m+1 ; or (ii) the pre-image of a stereographic projection of a hypersurface with constant mean curvature and scalar curvature in the Euclidean space R m+1 ; or (iii) the image of the standard conformal map of a hypersurface with constant mean curvature and scalar curvature in the (m+1)-dimensional hyperbolic space H m+1 . This result shows that one can use Möbius differential geometry to unify the three different classes of hypersurface with constant mean curvature and scalar curvature in S m+1 , R m+1 and H m+1 .

Abstract:: In this paper we define a Moebius invariant metric and a Moebius invariant second fundamental form for submanifolds in ? n and show that in case of a hypersurface with n ≥ 4 they determine the hypersurface up to Moebius transformations. Using these Moebius invariants we calculate the first variation of the moebius volume functional. We show that any minimal surface in ? n is also Moebius minimal and that the image in ? n of any minimal surface in ℝ n unter the inverse of a stereographic projection is also Moebius minimal. Finally we use the relations between Moebius invariants to classify all surfaces in ? 3 with vanishing Moebius form.

Abstract:Let x : M-n -> Sn+1 be an immersed hypersurface without umbilical point, one can define the Mobius metric g on x which is invariant under the Mobius transformation group of Sn+1. The scalar curvature R with respect to g is called the MObius scalar curvature. In this paper, we study conformally flat hypersurfaces with constant Mains scalar curvature in Sn+1. First, we classify locally the conformally flat hypersurfaces of dimension n(>= 4) with constant Mobius scalar curvature under the Mobius transformation group of Sn+1. Second, we prove that if an umbilic-free conformally flat hypersurface of dimension n(>= 4) with constant Mobius scalar curvature R is compact, then R = (n - 1)(n - 2)r(2), 0 < r < 1, and the compact conformally flat hypersurface is Mobius equivalent to the torus S-1 (root 1 - r(2)) x Sn-1(r)hooked right arrow Sn+1. Abstract:In the article [\emph{Deformations of hypersurfaces preserving the Möbius metric and a reduction theorem}, Adv. Math. 256 (2014), 156--205], Li, Ma and Wang investigated the interesting class of Moebius deformable hypersurfaces, that is, the umbilic-free Euclidean hypersurfaces $f\colon M^n\to \mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ that admit non-trivial deformations preserving the Moebius metric. The classification of Moebius deformable hypersurfaces of dimension $n\geq 4$ stated in the aforementioned article, however, misses a large class of examples. In this article we complete that classification for $n\geq 5$.

Abstract:Li, Ma and Wang have provided in [13] a partial classification of the so-called Moebius deformable hypersurfaces, that is, the umbilic-free Euclidean hypersurfaces that admit non-trivial deformations preserving the Moebius metric. For , the classification was completed by the authors in [12]. In this article we obtain an infinitesimal version of that classification. Namely, we introduce the notion of an infinitesimal Moebius variation of an umbilic-free immersion into Euclidean space as a one-parameter family of immersions , with and , such that the Moebius metrics determined by f t coincide up to the first order. Then we characterize isometric immersions of arbitrary codimension that admit a non-trivial infinitesimal Moebius variation among those that admit a non-trivial conformal infinitesimal variation, and use such characterization to classify the umbilic-free Euclidean hypersurfaces of dimension that admit non-trivial infinitesimal Moebius variations.

Abstract:Let M n ( n ≥ 4) be an oriented closed submanifold with parallel mean curvature in an ( n + p )-dimensional locally symmetric Riemannian manifold N n+p . We prove that if the sectional curvature of N is positively pinched in [ δ , 1], and the Ricci curvature of M satisfies a pinching condition, then M is either a totally umbilical submanifold, or δ = 1, and N is of constant curvature. This result generalizes the geometric rigidity theorem due to Xu and Gu [15].

Abstract:Making use of 1-forms and geometric inequalities we prove the rigidity property of complete submanifolds Mn with parallel mean curvature normal in a complete and simply connected Riemannian (n+p)-manifold Nn+p with positive sectional curvature. For given integers n, p and for a nonnegative constant H we find a positive number tau(n, p) is an element of (0, 1) with the property that if the sectional curvature of N is pinched in [tau(n, p), 1], and if the squared norm of the second fundamental form is in a certain interval, then Nn+p is isometric to the standard unit (n+p)-sphere. As a consequence, such an M is congruent to one of the five models as seen in our Main Theorem.
