Abstract:A $(q,t)$-deformation of the 2d Toda integrable hierarchy is introduced by enhancing the underlying symmetry algebra $\mathfrak{gl}(\infty)\simeq \text{q-W}_{1+\infty}$ to the quantum toroidal $\mathfrak{gl}(1)$ algebra. The difference-differential equations of the hierarchy are obtained from the expansion of $(q,t)$-bilinear identities, and two equations refining the 2d Toda equation are found in this way. The derivation of the bilinear identities follows from the isomorphism between the Fock representation of level $(2,0)$ of the quantum toroidal $\mathfrak{gl}(1)$ algebra and the tensor product of the q-deformed Virasoro algebra with a $u(1)$ Heisenberg algebra. It leads to identify the $(q,t)$-deformed Casimir with the screening charges of the deformed Virasoro algebra. Due to the non-trivial coproduct, equations of the hierarchy no longer involve a single tau-function, but instead relate a set of different tau functions. We then define the universal refined tau function using the $L$-matrix of the quantum toroidal $\mathfrak{gl}(1)$ algebra and interpret it as the generating function of the deformed tau functions. The equations of the hierarchy, written in terms of the universal refined tau function, combine into two-term quadratic equations similar to the $RLL$ equations.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to introduce and study the (q,t)-deformation of the two - dimensional Toda integrable hierarchy. Specifically, the author introduced this deformation by enhancing the underlying symmetry algebra from \(\hat{gl}(\infty)\simeq q - W_{1+\infty}\) to the quantum torus \(gl(1)\) algebra. The main problems can be summarized as follows: 1. **Introducing a new symmetry algebra**: Extend the symmetry algebra of the two - dimensional Toda integrable hierarchy from the classical \(\hat{gl}(\infty)\) to the quantum torus \(gl(1)\) algebra in order to introduce the additional parameters \(q\) and \(t\). 2. **Deriving new bilinear identities**: Expand the (q,t)-bilinear identities to obtain difference - differential equations and find two improved two - dimensional Toda equations. These equations degenerate into the original two - dimensional Toda equations in the self - dual limit. 3. **Constructing a generalized tau function**: Due to the non - trivial coproduct, the equations no longer involve a single tau function but are associated with a set of different tau functions. The author defined a general refined tau function and interpreted it as the generating function of the deformed tau function. 4. **Establishing a connection with topological string theory**: Explore whether this (q,t)-deformation is related to the refined topological string theory, especially the correspondence of the non - perturbative partition function of 5d \(N = 1\) gauge theory in the Omega background. ### Specific problem description The specific problems in the paper include: - **How to introduce the (q,t)-deformation through the quantum torus \(gl(1)\) algebra?** - **How to derive new difference - differential equations from the bilinear identities?** - **How to understand the new tau function and its generating function?** - **What is the relationship between this deformation and topological string theory and other physical models?** ### Mathematical formulas The key formulas involved in the paper are as follows: - **Expression of the Casimir operator**: \[ \Psi=\sum_{r\in\mathbb{Z}+\frac{1}{2}}\bar{\psi}_{-r}\otimes\psi_r \] - **Drinfeld coproduct**: \[ \Delta(G)=\sum_{\alpha}G_{\alpha}\otimes G'_{\alpha} \] - **Bilinear integral equation**: \[ \sum_{\alpha}\oint_{\infty}\frac{dz}{2i\pi z^{-n - 1}}e^{-\sum_{k>0}(\gamma_k t_k - t'_k)\frac{1 - t^k}{1 - q^k}z^k}\tau_u(t+[\gamma^{-1}z^{-1}],\bar{t}|G_{\alpha})\tau_{uq^{-n}t^{-1}}(t'-[\gamma^{-2}z^{-1}],\bar{t}'|G'_{\alpha}) \] \[ +\sum_{\alpha}\oint_0\frac{dz}{2i\pi z^{-n - 1}}e^{\sum_{k>0}(\gamma_k t_{-k}-t'_{-k})p_k z^{-k}}\tau_{ut^{-1}}(t,\bar{t}-[\gamma z]_{q,t}|G_{\alpha})\tau_{uq^{-n}}(t',\bar{t}'+[z]_{q,t}|G'_{\alpha}) = 0 \] These formulas show how to construct and analyze new integrable systems by introducing new symmetries and deformations and explore their applications in mathematical physics.
