Abstract:We introduce some new symmetric tensor categories based on the combinatorics of trees: a discrete family $\mathcal{D}(n)$, for $n \ge 3$ an integer, and a continuous family $\mathcal{C}(t)$, for $t \ne 1$ a complex number. The construction is based on the general oligomorphic theory of Harman--Snowden, but relies on two non-trivial results we establish. The first determines the measures for the class of trees, and the second is a semi-simplicity theorem. These categories have some notable properties: for instance, $\mathcal{C}(t)$ is the first example of a 1-parameter family of pre-Tannakian categories of superexponential growth that cannot be obtained by interpolating categories of moderate growth.
Representation Theory
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to introduce and study new symmetric tensor categories based on tree - based combinatorial structures. Specifically, the authors construct two new families of tensor categories: a discrete family \(D(n)\) and a continuous family \(C(t)\), where \(n\geq3\) is an integer and \(t\neq1\) is a complex number. The construction of these categories is based on Harman - Snowden's general oligomorphic theory, but depends on two non - trivial results: 1. **Measure classification of tree classes**: Determine the measures on tree classes, that is, define a rule such that each tree \(T\) is assigned a unit \(\rho(T)\) and satisfies certain specific combinatorial conditions (such as the amalgamation equation). 2. **Semisimplicity theorem**: Prove that certain algebras and categories are semisimple. These two results are crucial for constructing new tensor categories. In particular, the continuous family \(C(t)\) provides an example of a pre - Tannakian category with super - exponential growth, which cannot be obtained by the interpolation method for the first time. ### Specific problem description - **Measure problem**: How to determine appropriate measures for tree classes so that these measures can be used to construct tensor categories. - **Semisimplicity problem**: Prove that the constructed tensor categories are semisimple, thereby ensuring that they have good algebraic properties. ### Main contributions - **Measure calculation**: The authors provide a complete solution to calculate the measures on tree classes and show the specific form of the measure ring \(\Theta(T)\). - **Construction of new tensor categories**: Through the above - mentioned measures and the semisimplicity theorem, construct two new families of tensor categories \(D(n)\) and \(C(t)\). - **Theoretical significance**: These new categories provide rich examples of pre - Tannakian categories, especially \(C(t)\) is the first continuous family that cannot be obtained by interpolating classical representation categories. ### Motivation and importance - **Extend Deligne's work**: Deligne constructed a category with super - exponential growth by interpolating the representation categories of finite symmetric groups. The work in this paper further extends this idea and provides more new examples. - **Study of special objects**: For example, the discrete family \(D(n)\) can be regarded as a natural generalization of the Delannoy category, which has special properties on the Grothendieck group. In summary, the main goal of this paper is to expand and deepen the understanding of pre - Tannakian categories, especially in the case of super - exponential growth, by introducing new tensor categories based on tree - based combinatorial structures.
