Abstract:We show that in a finite tensor category, the tensor product property holds for support varieties if and only if it holds between indecomposable periodic objects. We apply this to certain Hopf algebras in the form of skew group algebras. In particular, we show that the tensor product property holds for all objects in a symmetric finite tensor category over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero.

Abstract:Given a support variety theory defined on the compact part of a monoidal triangulated category, we define an extension to the non-compact part following the blueprint of Benson--Carlson--Rickard, Benson--Iyengar--Krause, Balmer--Favi, and Stevenson. We generalize important aspects of the theory of extended support varieties to the noncommutative case, and give characterizations of when an extended support theory detects the zero object, under certain assumptions. In particular, we show that when the original support variety theory is based on a Noetherian topological space, detects the zero object, satisfies a generalized tensor product property, and comes equipped with a comparison map, then the extended support variety also detects the zero object. In the case of stable categories of finite tensor categories, this gives conditions under which the central cohomological support admits an extension that detects the zero object, confirming part of a recent conjecture made by the second author together with Nakano and Yakimov.

Support theories for non-Noetherian tensor triangulated categories

Abstract:We extend the support theory of Benson--Iyengar--Krause to the non-Noetherian setting by introducing a new notion of small support for modules. This enables us to prove that the stable module category of a finite group is canonically stratified by the action of the Tate cohomology ring, despite the fact that this ring is rarely Noetherian. In the tensor triangular context, we compare the support theory proposed by W. Sanders (which extends the Balmer--Favi support theory beyond the weakly Noetherian setting) with our generalized BIK support theory. When the Balmer spectrum is homeomorphic to the Zariski spectrum of the endomorphism ring of the unit, the two support theories coincide as do their associated theories of stratification. We also prove a negative result which states that the Balmer--Favi--Sanders support theory can only stratify categories whose spectra are weakly Noetherian. This provides additional justification for the weakly Noetherian hypothesis in the work of Barthel, Heard and B. Sanders. On the other hand, the detection property and the local-to-global principle remain interesting in the general setting.

Compactly generated tensor t-structures on the derived category of a Noetherian scheme

Abstract:We introduce a tensor compatibility condition for t-structures. For any Noetherian scheme $X$, we prove that there is a one-to-one correspondence between the set of filtrations of Thomason subsets and the set of aisles of compactly generated tensor compatible t-structures on the derived category of $X$. This generalizes the earlier classification of compactly generated t-structures for commutative rings to schemes. Hrbek and Nakamura have reformulated the famous telescope conjecture for t-structures. As an application of our main theorem, we prove that a tensor version of the conjecture is true for separated Noetherian schemes.

Abstract:Let G be a finite group. Over any finite G-poset P we may define a transporter category as the corresponding Grothendieck construction. The classifying space of the transporter category is the Borel construction on the G-space BP, while the k-category algebra of the transporter category is the (Gorenstein) skew group algebra on the G-incidence algebra kP. We introduce a support variety theory for the category algebras of transporter categories. It extends Carlson's support variety theory on group cohomology rings to equivariant cohomology rings. In the mean time it provides a class of (usually non selfinjective) algebras to which Snashall-Solberg's (Hochschild) support variety theory applies. Various properties will be developed. Particularly we establish a Quillen stratification for modules.

Abstract:Let E=(A,S) be an exact category with enough projectives P. We introduce the notion of support τ-tilting subcategories of E. It is compatible with the existing definitions of support τ-tilting modules (subcategories) in various contexts. It is also a generalization of tilting subcategories of exact categories. We show that there is a bijection between support τ-tilting subcategories and certain τ-cotorsion pairs. Given a support τ-tilting subcategory T, we find a subcategory ET of E which is an exact category and T is a tilting subcategory of ET. If E is Krull-Schmidt, we prove the cardinal |T| is equal to the number of isomorphism classes of indecomposable projectives Q such that HomE(Q,T)≠0. We also show a functorial version of Brenner-Butler's theorem.
On uniqueness of tensor products of irreducible categorifications

Abstract:In this paper, we propose an axiomatic definition for a tensor product categorification. A tensor product categorification is an abelian category with a categorical action of a Kac-Moody algebra g in the sense of Rouquier or Khovanov-Lauda whose Grothendieck group is isomorphic to a tensor product of simple modules. However, we require a much stronger structure than a mere isomorphism of representations; most importantly, each such categorical representation must have standardly stratified structure compatible with the categorification functors, and with combinatorics matching those of the tensor product. With these stronger conditions, we recover a uniqueness theorem similar in flavor to that of Rouquier for categorifications of simple modules. Furthermore, we already know of an example of such a categorification: the representations of algebras T^\lambda previously defined by the second author using generators and relations. Next, we show that tensor product categorifications give a categorical realization of tensor product crystals analogous to that for simple crystals given by cyclotomic quotients of KLR algebras. Examples of such categories are also readily found in more classical representation theory; for finite and affine type A, tensor product categorifications can be realized as quotients of the representation categories of cyclotomic q-Schur algebras.

Bounds on cohomological support varieties

Abstract:Over a local ring $R$, the theory of cohomological support varieties attaches to any bounded complex $M$ of finitely generated $R$-modules an algebraic variety $V_R(M)$ that encodes homological properties of $M$. We give lower bounds for the dimension of $V_R(M)$ in terms of classical invariants of $R$. In particular, when $R$ is Cohen-Macaulay and not complete intersection we find that there are always varieties that cannot be realized as the cohomological support of any complex. When $M$ has finite projective dimension, we also give an upper bound for $ \dim V_R(M)$ in terms of the dimension of the radical of the homotopy Lie algebra of $R$. This leads to an improvement of a bound due to Avramov, Buchweitz, Iyengar, and Miller on the Loewy lengths of finite free complexes. Finally, we completely classify the varieties that can occur as the cohomological support of a complex over a Golod ring.

Abstract:In this note, we leverage the author's pasting theorem for $(\infty,n)$-categories to construct new models of $(\infty,n)$-categories for all $n \leq \infty$, as presheaves on certain categories of computads. Among these new models are some which facilitate a construction of the Gray tensor product of $(\infty,n)$-categories Day convolution and reflection, which we carry out here. After constructing this Gray tensor product of $(\infty,n)$-categories, we characterize it via several model-independent universal properties.

Abstract:We construct a co- t t -structure on the derived category of coherent sheaves on the nilpotent cone N \mathcal {N} of a reductive group, as well as on the derived category of coherent sheaves on any parabolic Springer resolution. These structures are employed to show that the push-forwards of the “exotic parity objects” (considered by Achar, Hardesty, and Riche [Transform. Groups 24 (2019), pp. 597–657]), along the (classical) Springer resolution, give indecomposable objects inside the coheart of the co- t t -structure on N \mathcal {N} . We also demonstrate how the various parabolic co- t t -structures can be related by introducing an analogue to the usual translation functors. As an application, we give a proof of a scheme-theoretic formulation of the relative Humphreys conjecture on support varieties of tilting modules in type A A for p > h p>h .

Abstract:Let $X$ be a smooth Fano variety. We attach a bi-graded associative algebra $\mathrm{HS}(\mathcal{K}u(X))=\bigoplus_{i,j\in \mathbb{Z}} \mathrm{Hom}(\mathrm{Id},S_{\mathcal{K}u(X)}^{i}[j])$ to the Kuznetsov component $\mathcal{K}u(X)$ whenever it is defined. Then we construct a natural sub-algebra of $\mathrm{HS}(\mathcal{K}u(X))$ when $X$ is a Fano hypersurface and establish its relation with Jacobian ring $\mathrm{Jac}(X)$. As an application, we prove a categorical Torelli theorem for Fano hypersurface $X\subset\mathbb{P}^n(n\geq 2)$ of degree $d$ if $\mathrm{gcd}(n+1,d)=1.$ In addition, we give a new proof of the $[Pir22, Theorem 1.2]$ using a similar idea.

Abstract:Suppose $C$ is a smooth projective curve of genus 1 over a perfect field $F$, and $E$ is its Jacobian. In the case that $C$ has no $F$-rational points, so that $C$ and $E$ are not isomorphic, $C$ is an $E$-torsor with a class $\delta(C)\in H^1(\text{Gal}(\bar F/F), E(\bar F))$. Then $\delta(C)$ determines a class $\beta \in \text{Br}(E)/\text{Br}(F)$ and there is a Fourier-Mukai equivalence of derived categories of (twisted) coherent sheaves $\mathcal D(C) \xrightarrow{\cong} \mathcal D(E, \beta^{-1})$. Abstract:A full triangulated subcategory $\mathsf{C} \subset \mathsf{T}$ of triangulated category $\mathsf{T}$ is colocalizing if it is stable for products. If, further, $\mathsf{T}$ is monoidal and closed, i.e. $(\mathsf{T}, \otimes)$ is tensor-triangulated with internal homs (denoted $[-,-]$), we say that $\mathsf{C}$ is an $\mathcal{H}$-coideal if $[F, G] \in \mathsf{C}$ for all $G \in \mathsf{C}$ and all $F \in \mathsf{T}$. We prove, for a noetherian scheme $X$, that all $\mathcal{H}$-coideal colocalizing subcategories of $\mathsf{D}_{\mathrm{qc}}(X)$ are classified by subsets of $X$. Every such colocalizing subcategory $\mathsf{C}$ is of the form $\mathsf{C} = \mathsf{L}^\perp$, where $\mathsf{L}$ is a $\otimes$-ideal localizing subcategory.

Abstract:We categorify the inclusion–exclusion principle for partially ordered topological spaces and schemes to a filtration on the derived category of sheaves. As a consequence, we obtain functorial spectral sequences that generalize the two spectral sequences of a stratified space and certain Vassiliev-type spectral sequences; we also obtain Euler characteristic analogs in the Grothendieck ring of varieties. As an application, we give an algebro-geometric proof of Vakil and Wood's homological stability conjecture for the space of smooth hypersurface sections of a smooth projective variety. In characteristic zero this conjecture was previously established by Aumonier via topological methods.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{S}$ be a small category admitting binary products. We show that the whole theory of monoidal $\mathcal{S}$-fibered categories, which is customarily formulated in terms of the usual internal tensor product, can be rephrased purely in terms of the associated external tensor product. More precisely, we construct a canonical dictionary relating the classical structures and properties of the internal tensor product to analogous structures and properties of the external tensor product: this applies to associativity, commutativity, and unit constraints, to projection formulae, as well as to monoidality of morphisms between monoidal $\mathcal{S}$-fibered categories. For instance, we show how Mac Lane's classical pentagon and hexagon axioms can be stated using the external tensor product. Our results provide a satisfactory abstract framework to study monoidal structures in the setting of perverse sheaves.
