Abstract:Let $R$ be a commutative ring and $S$ a multiplicative subset of $R$. A ring $R$ is called an $S$-Matlis ring if $pd_RR_S\leq 1$. In this note, we give some new characterizations of $S$-Matlis rings in terms of $S$-strongly flat modules, $S$-weakly cotorsion modules and $S$-$h$-divisible modules.

Abstract:The main results obtained in this paper are as follows: For a commutative semi-ring, we (introduce) a new definition for localization, and discuss its properties; For commutative semi-rings A_1,A_2,…, and A_n, it is proved that the localization of the direct product A_1×A_2×…×A_n is isormorphic to the direct product of the localizations of A_1,A_2,…,and A_n; It is proved that the localization of a (commutative) semi-ring possesses the universal property.
On Matlis reflexive modules

Abstract:Matlis duality for modules over commutative rings gives rise to the notion of Matlis reflexivity. It is shown that Matlis reflexive modules form a Krull-Schmidt category. For noetherian rings the absence of infinite direct sums is a characteristic feature of Matlis reflexivity. This leads to a discussion of objects that are extensions of artinian by noetherian objects. Classifications of Matlis reflexive modules are provided for some small examples.

A note on the localization of generalized injective modules

Abstract:Let $R$ be a ring and $S$ a multiplicative subset of $R$. In this note, we study the localization of $S$-injective modules and $u$-$S$-injective modules under $S$-Noetherian rings and $u$-$S$-Noetherian rings, respectively. The $u$-$S$-absolutely pure property is showed to be preserved under localizations over $S$-coherent rings. Besides, we give an example to show the difference between $S$-injective modules and $u$-$S$-injective modules, and some counter-examples to deny some questions proposed in \cite{B24}.

Abstract:Let R be a commutative local noetherian ring, and let L and L' be R-modules. We investigate the properties of the functors Tor_i^R(L,-) and Ext^i_R(L,-). For instance, we show the following: (a) if L is artinian and L' is noetherian, then Hom_R(L,L') has finite length; (b) if L and L' are artinian, then the tensor product L \otimes_R L' has finite length; (c) if L and L' are artinian, then Tor_i^R(L,L') is artinian, and Ext^i_R(L,L') is noetherian over the completion \hat R; and (d) if L is artinian and L' is Matlis reflexive, then Ext^i_R(L,L'), Ext^i_R(L',L), and Tor_i^R(L,L') are Matlis reflexive. Also, we study the vanishing behavior of these functors, and we include computations demonstrating the sharpness of our results.

Abstract:Let R be an integral domain. An R -module G is torsionless if it is isomorphic to a submodule of a finitely generated free R -module. For torsionless modules, we define w -weak isomorphism types which are new versions of weak isomorphism types with respect to the w -operation: w -local isomorphism and w -nearly isomorphism. Furthermore, we examine the relationship between w -local isomorphism, w -nearly isomorphism, and stable isomorphism for torsionless w -modules over weakly Matlis domains.

Abstract:Let $R$ be a ring and $S$ a multiplicative subset of $R$. An $R$-module $T$ is called $u$-$S$-torsion ($u$- always abbreviates uniformly) provided that $sT=0$ for some $s\in S$. The notion of $u$-$S$-exact sequences is also introduced from the viewpoint of uniformity. An $R$-module $F$ is called $u$-$S$-flat provided that the induced sequence $0\rightarrow A\otimes_RF\rightarrow B\otimes_RF\rightarrow C\otimes_RF\rightarrow 0$ is $u$-$S$-exact for any $u$-$S$-exact sequence $0\rightarrow A\rightarrow B\rightarrow C\rightarrow 0$. A ring $R$ is called $u$-$S$-von Neumann regular provided there exists an element $s\in S$ satisfying that for any $a\in R$ there exists $r\in R$ such that $sa=ra^2$. We obtain that a ring $R$ is a $u$-$S$-von Neumann regular ring if and only if any $R$-module is $u$-$S$-flat. Several properties of $u$-$S$-flat modules and $u$-$S$-von Neumann regular rings are obtained.

Abstract:Let $(R,\my)$ be a noetherian local ring, $E$ the injective hull of $k=R/\my$ and $M^\circ=$ Hom$_R(M,E)$ the Matlis dual of the $R$-module $M$. If the canonical monomorphism $\varphi: M \to \moo$ is surjective, $M$ is known to be called (Matlis-)reflexive. With the help of the Bass numbers $\mu(\py,M)=\dim_{\kappa(\py)}($Hom$_R(R/\py,M)_\py)$ of $M$ with respect to $\py$ we show: $M$ is reflexive if and only if $\mu(\py,M)=\mu(\py,\moo)$ for all $\py \in $ Spec$(R)$. From this it follows for every $R$-module $M$: If there exists a monomorphism $\moo \hookrightarrow M$ or an epimorphism $M \twoheadrightarrow \moo$, then $M$ is already reflexive.

Abstract:Let $R$ be a ring and $S$ a multiplicative subset of $R$. We introduce and study the notions of ($u$-)$S$-$w$-Noetherian modules and ($u$-)$S$-$w$-principal ideal modules. Some characterizations of these new concepts are given. In particular, we positively answer two open questions proposed by Kim and Lim [12, Question 14] and Lim [8, Question 8].

Abstract:Let R be a commutative ring with identity, and let S be a multiplicative subset of R. Positselski and Slávik introduced the concepts of S-strongly flat modules and S-weakly cotorsion R-modules, and they showed that these concepts are useful in describing flat modules and Enochs cotorsion modules over commutative rings (see the discussion in [13, Section 1.1]). In this paper, we introduce a homological dimension, called the S-strongly flat dimension, for modules and rings. These dimensions measure how far away a module M is from being S-strongly flat and how far a ring R is from being S-almost semisimple. The relations between the S-strongly flat dimension and other dimensions are discussed.

Abstract:In this paper, the author studies the regularity of Munn rings and completely 0-simple semigroup rings. When either (i)R is a ring with identity andI and Λ are infinite, or (ii)R is a strong IBN and fully Dedekind-finite ring with identity and eitherI or Λ is finite, in Section 2, the regularity of the Munn ringM(R; I, Λ; P) is characterized; in Section 3, for a completely 0-simple semigroupS =M°(G; I, Λ; P), the regularity ofRS is characterized. Meantime, the author shows that for a locally finite monoidS and a ringR with identity,RS is a strong IBN ring if and only ifR is so;RS is fully Dedekind-finite if and only ifR is so.
A note on $S$-coherent rings

Abstract:In this note, we show that a ring $R$ is $S$-coherent if and only if every finitely presented $R$-module is $S$-coherent, providing a positive answer to a question proposed in [D. Bennis, M. El Hajoui, {\it On $S$-coherence}, J. Korean Math. Soc. \textbf{55} (2018), no.6, 1499-1512]. Besides, we show that $c$-$S$-coherent rings are $S$-coherent, and give an example to show the converse is not true in general.

Abstract:Let R be a commutative ring with identity and S a multiplicative subset of R. The aim of this paper is to study the class of commutative rings in which every S-flat module is flat (resp., projective). An R-module M is said to be S-flat if the localization of M at S, M_S, is a flat R_S-module. Commutative rings R for which all S-flat R-modules are flat are characterized by the fact that R/Rs is a von Neumann regular ring for every s in S. While, commutative rings R for which all S-flat R-modules are projective are characterized by the following two conditions: R is perfect and the Jacobson radical J(R) of R is S-divisible. Rings satisfying these conditions are called S-perfect. Moreover, we give some examples to distinguish perfect rings, S-perfect rings, and semisimple rings. We also investigate the transfer results of the "S-perfectness" for various ring constructions, which allows the construction of more interesting examples.

A note on $S$-flat preenvelopes

Abstract:In this note, we investigate the notion of $S$-flat preenvelopes of modules. In particular, we give an example that a ring $R$ being coherent does not imply that every $R$-module have an $S$-flat preenvelope, giving a negative answer to the question proposed by Bennis and Bouziri \cite{BB24}. Besides, we also show that $R_S$ is a coherent ring also does not imply that $R$ is an $S$-coherent ring in general.

Abstract:Let $S$ be the polynomial ring on the space of non-square generic matrices or the space of odd-sized skew-symmetric matrices, and let $I$ be the determinantal ideal of maximal minors or $\operatorname{Pf}$ the ideal of sub-maximal Pfaffians, respectively. Using desingularizations and representation theory of the general linear group we expand upon work of Raicu--Weyman--Witt to determine the $S$-module structures of $\operatorname{Ext}^j_S(S/I^t, S)$ and $\operatorname{Ext}^j_S(S/\operatorname{Pf}^t, S)$, from which we get the degrees of generators of these $\operatorname{Ext}$ modules. As a consequence, via graded local duality we answer a question of Wenliang Zhang on the socle degrees of local cohomology modules of the form $H^j_\mathfrak{m}(S/I^t)$.

Abstract:We describe the ring of fractions of Z/nZ with respect to the multiplicative set S={1,x,x2,x3,...} , where x is any non-nilpotent element and we observe how it identifies with a quotient of the ring. Given a ring R=Z/nZ and a multiplicative set S , we characterize all ideals I of R such that R / I is isomorphic to S−1R under the natural map.

Abstract:Let $R$ be a ring and $S$ a multiplicative subset of $R$. In this paper, we obtain the ACC characterization, Cartan-Eilenberg-Bass theorem and the absolutely pure characterization for $S$-Noetherian rings. In details, we show that a ring $R$ is an $S$-Noetherian ring if and only if any ascending chain of ideals of $R$ is $S$-stationary, if and only if any direct sum of injective modules is $S$-injective, if and only if any direct limit of injective modules is $S$-injective, if and only if any $(S$-$)$absolutely pure module is $S$-injective. We also characterized $S$-$w$-Noetherian rings similarly.

Abstract:We are working in the category of commutative unital rings and denote by $\mathrm U(R)$ the group of units of a nonzero ring $R$. An extension of rings $R\subseteq S$, satisfying $\mathrm U(R)=R \cap\mathrm U(S)$ is usually called local. This paper is devoted to the study of ring extensions such that $\mathrm U(R)=\mathrm U(S)$, that we call strongly local. P. M. Cohn in a paper, entitled Rings with zero divisors, introduced some strongly local extensions. We generalized under the name Cohn's rings his definition and give a comprehensive study of these extensions. As a consequence, we give a constructive proof of his main result. Now Lequain and Doering studied strongly local extensions, where $S$ is semilocal, so that $S/\mathrm J(S)$, where $\mathrm J(S)$ is the Jacobson radical of $S$, is Von Neumann regular. These rings are usually called $J$-regular. We establish many results on $J$-regular rings in order to get substantial results on strongly local extensions when $S$ is $J$-regular. The Picard group of a $J$-regular ring is trivial, allowing to evaluate the group $\mathrm U(S)/\mathrm U(R)$ when $R$ is $J$-regular. We then are able to give a complete characterization of the Doering-Lequain context. A Section is devoted to examples. In particular, when $R$ is a field, the strongly local and weakly strongly inert properties are equivalent.

Associativity and Commutativity of Partially Ordered Rings

Abstract:Consider a commutative monoid $(M,+,0)$ and a biadditive binary operation $\mu \colon M \times M \to M$. We will show that under some additional general assumptions, the operation $\mu$ is automatically both associative and commutative. The main additional assumption is localizability of $\mu$, which essentially means that a certain canonical order on $M$ is compatible with adjoining some multiplicative inverses of elements of $M$. As an application we show that a division ring $\mathbb F$ is commutative provided that for all $a \in \mathbb F$ there exists a natural number $k$ such that $a-k$ is not a sum of products of squares. This generalizes the classical theorem that every archimedean ordered division ring is commutative to a more general class of formally real division rings that do not necessarily allow for an archimedean (total) order. Similar results about automatic associativity and commutativity are well-known for special types of partially ordered extended rings (``extended'' in the sense that neither associativity nor commutativity of the multiplication is required by definition), namely in the uniformly bounded and the lattice-ordered cases, i.e.~for (extended) $f$-rings. In these cases the commutative monoid in question is the positive cone of the partially ordered extended ring. We also discuss how these classical results can be obtained from our main theorem.
