Abstract:To easily obtain the knowledge about autism spectrum disorder and help its early screening and diagnosis, we create AsdKB, a Chinese knowledge base on autism spectrum disorder. The knowledge base is built on top of various sources, including 1) the disease knowledge from SNOMED CT and ICD-10 clinical descriptions on mental and behavioural disorders, 2) the diagnostic knowledge from DSM-5 and different screening tools recommended by social organizations and medical institutes, and 3) the expert knowledge on professional physicians and hospitals from the Web. AsdKB contains both ontological and factual knowledge, and is accessible as Linked Data at this https URL. The potential applications of AsdKB are question answering, auxiliary diagnosis, and expert recommendation, and we illustrate them with a prototype which can be accessed at this http URL.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem this paper attempts to address is: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that begins before the age of 3 and may persist throughout life. Individuals with ASD have difficulties in social communication and interaction and may exhibit stereotyped or repetitive behaviors (or interests). However, there are currently no quantitative medical tests to diagnose this disorder, and professionals can only diagnose it through screening tools and observing behavior over a period of time. As a result, many children do not receive a definitive diagnosis until they are older, which may cause ASD children who need early help to miss the optimal intervention period. In China, compared to Western developed countries, the screening and diagnosis situation for ASD children may be more severe. According to the 2020 China Child Development Disorder Rehabilitation Report, the prevalence of ASD in China is about 1%, with the number of ASD children exceeding 3 million, but there are only about 500 professionals who can diagnose ASD, not to mention the number of certified behavior analysts. This situation hinders the timely diagnosis of ASD, so the authors consider whether artificial intelligence technology can be applied to solve the problem of early screening and diagnosis of ASD. To address this challenge, the authors constructed a Chinese knowledge base named AsdKB for the early screening and diagnosis of ASD. AsdKB extracts and integrates knowledge related to ASD from multiple sources (such as SNOMED CT, ICD-10, DSM-5, etc.) to support upper-level intelligent applications, such as question answering, auxiliary diagnosis, and expert recommendation.
