Abstract:We prove that the small-data scattering map uniquely determines the nonlinearity for a wide class of gauge-invariant, intercritical nonlinear Schrödinger equations. We use the Born approximation to reduce the analysis to a deconvolution problem involving the distribution function for linear Schrödinger solutions. We then solve this deconvolution problem using the Beurling--Lax Theorem.

Abstract:We obtain exact spatiotemporal similaritons to a (3+1)-dimensional inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrodinger equation, which describes the propagation of optical pulses in a cubic-quintic nonlinearity medium with distributed dispersion and gain. A one-to-one correspondence between such self-similar waves and solutions of the elliptic equation is found when a certain compatibility condition is satisfied. Based on exact solutions, we discuss evolutional behaviors of self-similar cnoidal waves and chirped similaritons in two kind of typical soliton control systems. Moreover, the comparison between chirped similaritons and chirp-free solitons is given.
Well-posedness and inverse problems for semilinear nonlocal wave equations

Abstract:This article is devoted to forward and inverse problems associated with time-independent semilinear nonlocal wave equations. We first establish comprehensive well-posedness results for some semilinear nonlocal wave equations. The main challenge is due to the low regularity of the solutions of linear nonlocal wave equations. We then turn to an inverse problem of recovering the nonlinearity of the equation. More precisely, we show that the exterior Dirichlet-to-Neumann map uniquely determines homogeneous nonlinearities of the form $f(x,u)$ under certain growth conditions. On the other hand, we also prove that initial data can be determined by using passive measurements under certain nonlinearity conditions. The main tools used for the inverse problem are the unique continuation principle of the fractional Laplacian and a Runge approximation property. The results hold for any spatial dimension $n\in \N$.

Abstract:We prove that solutions to the quintic semilinear wave equation with variable coefficients in $\mathbb R^{1+3}$ scatter to a solution to the corresponding linear wave equation. The coefficients are small and decay as $|x|\to\infty$, but are allowed to be time dependent. The proof uses local energy decay estimates to establish the decay of the $L^6$ norm of the solution as $t\to\infty$.

Abstract:We show global asymptotic stability of solitary waves of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation in space dimension 1. Furthermore, the radiation is shown to exhibit long range scattering if the nonlinearity is cubic at the origin, or standard scattering if it is higher order. We handle a general nonlinearity without any vanishing condition, requiring that the linearized operator around the solitary wave has neither nonzero eigenvalues, nor threshold resonances. Initial data are chosen in a neighborhood of the solitary waves in the natural space $H^1 \cap L^{2,1}$ (where the latter is the weighted $L^2$ space). The proof relies on the analysis of resonances as seen through the distorted Fourier transform, combined for the first time with modulation and renormalization techniques.

Abstract:We study the inverse problem of recovery a nonlinearity f ( t , x , u ), which is compactly supported in x, in the semilinear wave equation u tt − Δ u + f ( t , x , u ) = 0. We probe the medium with either complex or real-valued harmonic waves of wavelength ∼ h and amplitude ∼ 1. They propagate in a regime where the nonlinearity affects the subprincipal but not the principal term, except for the zeroth harmonics. We measure the transmitted wave when it exits supp x f. We show that one can recover f ( t , x , u ) when it is an odd function of u, and we can recover α ( x ) when f ( t , x , u ) = α ( x ) u 2 m . This is done in an explicit way as h → 0.

The Weakly Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation in Higher Dimensions with Quasi-periodic Initial Data

Abstract:In this paper, under the exponential/polynomial decay condition in Fourier space, we prove that the nonlinear solution to the quasi-periodic Cauchy problem for the weakly nonlinear Schrödinger equation in higher dimensions will asymptotically approach the associated linear solution within a specific time scale. The proof is based on a combinatorial analysis method present through diagrams. Our results and methods apply to {\em arbitrary} space dimensions and general power-law nonlinearities of the form $\pm|u|^{2p}u$, where $1\leq p\in\mathbb N$.

Abstract:Systems of wave equations may fail to be globally well posed, even for small initial data. Attempts to classify systems into well and ill-posed categories work by identifying structural properties of the equations that can work as indicators of well-posedness. The most famous of these are the null and weak null conditions. As noted by Keir, related formulations may fail to properly capture the effect of undifferentiated terms in systems of wave equations. We show that this is because null conditions are good for categorising behaviour close to null infinity, but not at timelike infinity. In this paper, we propose an alternative condition for semilinear equations that work for undifferentiated non-linearities as well. We illustrate the strength of this new condition by proving global well and ill-posedness statements for some systems of equation that are not critical according to the our classification. Furthermore, we given two examples of systems satisfying the weak null condition with global ill-posedness due to undifferentiated terms, thereby disproving the weak null conjecture as stated in [DP18].

Abstract:We investigate the long time dynamics of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) with combined powers on the waveguide manifold $\mathbb{R}^d\times\mathbb{T}$. Different from the previously studied NLS-models with single power on the waveguide manifolds, where the non-scale-invariance is mainly due to the mixed nature of the underlying domain, the non-scale-invariance of the present model is both geometrical and structural. By considering different combinations of the nonlinearities, we establish both qualitative and quantitative properties of the soliton, scattering and blow-up solutions. As one of the main novelties of the paper compared to the previous results for the NLS with single power, we particularly construct two different rescaled families of variational problems, which leads to an NLS with single power in different limiting profiles respectively, to establish the periodic dependence results.

Abstract:In this paper, we obtain the existence of at least two standing waves (and homoclinic solutions) for a class of time-dependent (and time-independent) discrete nonlinear Schrödinger systems or equations. The novelties of the paper are as follows. (1) Our nonlinearities are composed of three mixed growth terms, i.e., the nonlinearities are composed of sub-linear, asymptotically-linear and super-linear terms. (2) Our nonlinearities may be sign-changing. (3) Our results can also be applied to the cases of concave-convex nonlinear terms. (4) Our results can be applied to a wide range of mathematical models.

Abstract:It is well-known that in dimensions at least three semilinear wave equations with null conditions admit global solutions for small initial data. It is also known that in dimension two such result still holds for a certain class of quasi-linear wave equations with null conditions. The proofs are based on the decay mechanism of linear waves. However, in one dimension, waves do not decay. Nevertheless, we will prove that small data still lead to global solutions if the null condition is satisfied.

Abstract:We study a three-wave truncation of the high-order nonlinear Schrödinger equation for deepwater waves (HONLS, also named Dysthe equation). We validate our approach by comparing it to numerical simulation, distinguish the impact of the different fourth-order terms and classify the solutions according to their topology. This allows us to properly define the temporary spectral upshift occurring in the nonlinear stage of Benjamin-Feir instability and provides a tool for studying further generalizations of this model.

Calderón problem for nonlocal viscous wave equations: Unique determination of linear and nonlinear perturbations

Abstract:The main goal of this article is the study of a Calderón type inverse problem for a viscous wave equation. We show that the partial Dirichlet to Neumann map uniquely determines on the one hand linear perturbations and on the other hand homogeneous nonlinearities $f(u)$ whenever the latter satisfy a certain growth assumption. As a preliminary step we discuss the well-posedness in each case, where for the nonlinear setting we invoke the implicit function theorem after establishing the differentiability of the associated Nemytskii operator $f(u)$. In the linear case we establish a Runge approximation theorem in $L^2(0,T;\widetilde{H}^{s}(\Omega))$, which allows us to uniquely determine potentials that belong only to $L^{\infty}(0,T;L^p(\Omega))$ for some $1<p\leq \infty$ satisfying suitable restrictions. In the nonlinear case, we first derive an appropriate integral identity and combine this with the differentiability of the solution map around zero to show that the nonlinearity is uniquely determined by the Dirichlet to Neumann map. To make this linearization technique work, it is essential that we have a Runge approximation in $L^2(0,T;\widetilde{H}^s(\Omega))$ instead of $L^2(\Omega_T)$ at our disposal.

Abstract:We consider the one-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a nonlinearity of degree p > 1 p>1 . On compact manifolds many probability measures are invariant by the flow of the linear Schrödinger equation (e.g. Wiener measures), and it is sometimes possible to modify them suitably and get invariant (Gibbs measures) or quasi-invariant measures for the non linear problem. On R d \mathbb {R}^d , the large time dispersion shows that the only invariant measure is the δ \delta measure on the trivial solution u = 0 u =0 , and the good notion to track is whether the non linear evolution of the initial measure is well described by the linear (nontrivial) evolution. This is precisely what we achieve in this work. We exhibit measures on the space of initial data for which we describe the nontrivial evolution by the linear Schrödinger flow and we show that their nonlinear evolution is absolutely continuous with respect to this linear evolution. Actually, we give precise (and optimal) bounds on the Radon–Nikodym derivatives of these measures with respect to each other and we characterise their L p L^p regularity. We deduce from this precise description the global well-posedness of the equation for p > 1 p>1 and scattering for p > 3 p>3 (actually even for 1 > p ≤ 3 1>p \leq 3 , we get a dispersive property of the solutions and exhibit an almost sure polynomial decay in time of their L p + 1 L^{p+1} norm). To the best of our knowledge, it is the first occurence where the description of quasi-invariant measures allows to get quantitative asymptotics (here scattering properties or decay) for the nonlinear evolution.

Our results hold for space dimensions two and higher, and for arbitrary smooth nonlinearity. Abstract:This paper investigates the cubic-quintic-septimal nonlinear Schrödinger wave equation with a conformable derivative, which governs the evolution of light beams in a weak nonlocal medium. The analysis utilizes the Kudryashov method and the enhanced modified tanh expansion method. By utilizing these analytical integration schemes, various optical wave solutions are derived within the present conformable model. The paper demonstrates the significance of these optical soliton solutions by illustrating different soliton solutions, including kink-type, bell-shaped, singular, dark, and wave soliton solutions, depicted via contour, three-dimensional, and two-dimensional representations. Moreover, it is crucial to emphasize the importance of analyzing the cubic-quintic-septimal nonlinear Schrödinger wave equation, which finds utility across a spectrum of fields including optics, quantum mechanics, and the study of nonlinear wave propagation. Moving forward, these approaches hold promise for investigating diverse sets of differential equations within multiple domains of applied sciences. This governing equation also has numerous applications in nonlinear optics, such as describing the propagation of laser beams through materials with nonlinear optical properties. The inclusion of these nonlinearities illustrates the interaction and behavior of light beams in weakly non-local media.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the Cauchy problem of Nonlinear Schrödinger equation \begin{align*} \left\{\begin{array}{ll}&i u_t+\Delta u=\lambda_1|u|^{p_1}u+\lambda_2|u|^{p_2}u, \quad t\in\mathbb{R}, \quad x\in\mathbb{R}^N &u(0,x)=\varphi(x), \quad x\in\mathbb{R}^N, \end{array} \right. \end{align*} where $N\geq 3$, $0<p_1<p_2<\frac{4}{N-2}$, $\lambda_1$ and $\lambda_2$ are real constants. Using the methods in \cite{Cazenave2} and analyzing the interaction between the nonlinearity $\lambda_1|u|^{p_1}u$ and $\lambda_2|u|^{p_2}u$, we not only partly solve the open problems of Terence Tao, Monica Visan and Xiaoyi Zhang's \cite{Tao} but also obtain other scattering properties of the solutions.
