Abstract:Health insurance plays a significant role in ensuring quality healthcare. In response to the escalating costs of the medical industry, the demand for health insurance is soaring. Additionally, those with health insurance are more likely to receive preventative care than those without health insurance. However, from granting health insurance to delivering services to insured individuals, the health insurance industry faces numerous obstacles. Fraudulent actions, false claims, a lack of transparency and data privacy, reliance on human effort and dishonesty from consumers, healthcare professionals, or even the insurer party itself, are the most common and important hurdles towards success. Given these constraints, this chapter briefly covers the most immediate concerns in the health insurance industry and provides insight into how blockchain technology integration can contribute to resolving these issues. This chapter finishes by highlighting existing limitations as well as potential future directions.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
### What Problem Does the Paper Attempt to Solve? The paper aims to explore how blockchain technology can be utilized to address the major issues faced by the health insurance industry. Specifically, the paper focuses on the following aspects: 1. **Fraudulent Activities and False Claims**: The health insurance industry is plagued by a significant amount of fraudulent activities and false claims, leading to substantial financial losses for insurance companies. For example, as of September 30, 2020, health insurance fraud in the United States resulted in a loss of $6 billion, with 345 individuals being charged with fraudulent activities. 2. **Security and Privacy of Data Sharing**: During the process of health data sharing, customers are highly sensitive about privacy protection. The current data sharing mechanisms fail to adequately safeguard personal privacy, making many customers reluctant to share their health data. 3. **Inefficient Manual Operations**: Many processes in the health insurance industry still rely on manual operations, which are not only inefficient but also prone to errors. ### Proposed Solutions in the Paper The paper proposes using blockchain technology to address the aforementioned issues and highlights the following advantages: 1. **Efficient Data Sharing**: Blockchain technology provides a transparent and tamper-proof method of data exchange, ensuring the authenticity and integrity of the data. Encryption techniques such as digital signatures and hash functions protect privacy during the data sharing process. 2. **Combating Fraudulent Activities**: Blockchain can record timestamped transactions and provide a complete audit trail, making it difficult for fraudsters to make false claims. 3. **Improving Customer Service Experience**: By automating business processes through smart contracts, customer satisfaction is enhanced. Smart contracts can automatically trigger payment processes, thereby increasing customer trust. 4. **Enhancing Trust Among Parties**: Smart contracts on the blockchain ensure the immutability and auditability of all transactions, eliminating the need for intermediary institutions. 5. **Data Collection and Storage**: The combination of blockchain technology with artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) can collect a large amount of valuable data, which can be used to formulate more reasonable insurance rates. 6. **Control of Responsibility and Ownership**: The decentralized nature of blockchain allows all relevant parties to transparently view information, enhancing the sense of responsibility and integrity among all parties. ### Conclusion By analyzing the current state of health insurance management and exploring the potential applications of blockchain technology, the paper aims to provide a comprehensive research framework for future scholars, helping them better understand how to leverage blockchain technology to address the challenges faced by the health insurance industry.
