Abstract:We present new properties of generalized core-EP inverse in a Banach *-algebra. We characterize this new generalized inverse by using involved annihilators. The generalized core-EP inverse for products is obtained. The core-EP orders for Banach *-algebra elements are thereby investigated. As applications, new properties of the core-EP inverse for block complex matrices are given.

Abstract:We present necessary and sufficient conditions under which the sum of two group invertible elements in a ring is group invertible. As applications, we establish the existence of group inverses of certain 2 × 2 block-operator matrices over a Banach space. These generalize the known results, e.g., Zhou, Chen and Zhu ( Comm. Algebra 48 (2020), 676–690) and Benítez, Liu and Zhu ( Linear Multilinear Algebra 59 (2011), 279–289).

Abstract:The m-weak group inverse was recently studied in the literature. The purpose of this paper is to investigate new properties of this generalized inverse for ring elements. We introduce the m-weak group decomposition for a ring element and prove that it coincides with its m-weak group invertibility. We present the equivalent characterization of the m-weak group inverse by using a polar-like property. The relations between m-weak group inverse and core-EP inverse are also established. These give some new properties of the weak group inverse for complex matrices and ring elements.

Abstract:We present new additive results for the pseudo core inverse in a Banach algebra with involution. The necessary and sufficient conditions under which the sum of two pseudo core invertible elements in Banach *-algebra is pseudo core invertible are obtained. As an application, the pseudo core invertibility for block complex matrices is investigated. These extend the main results of pseudo core invertibility of Gao and Chen [Comm. Algebra, 46(2018), 38--50].

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce the m-core-EP inverse in Minkowski space, consider its properties, and get several sufficient and necessary conditions for the existence of the m-core-EP inverse. We give the m-core-EP decomposition in Minkowski space, and note that not every square matrix has the decomposition. Furthermore, by applying the m-core-EP inverse and the m-core-EP decomposition, we introduce the m-core-EP order and give some characterizations of it.

Abstract:In this paper, we first prove that if a is both left (b, c)-invertible and left (c, b)-invertible, then a is both (b, c)-invertible and (c, b)-invertible in a *-monoid, which generalized the recent result about the inverse along an element by Wang and Mosic, under the conditions (ab)* = ab and (ac)* = ac. In addition, we consider that ba is (c, b)- invertible, and at the same time ca is (b, c)-invertible under the same conditions, which extend the related results about Moore-Penrose inverses by Chen et al. to (b, c)-inverses. As applications, we obtain that under condition (a2)* = a2, a is an EP element if and only if a is one-sided core invertible if and only if a is group invertible.

Abstract:We introduce and study a new class of generalized inverses in rings. An element a in a ring R has generalized Zhou inverse if there exists <math>b∈R</math> such that <math>bab=b,b∈comm2(a),an−ab∈J(R)</math> for some <math>n∈N.</math> We prove that <math>a∈R</math> has generalized Zhou inverse if and only if there exists <math>p=p2∈comm2(a)</math> such that <math>an−p∈J(R)</math> for some <math>n∈N.</math> Cline's formula and Jacobson's lemma for generalized Zhou inverses are established. In particular, the Zhou inverse in a ring is characterized.

Abstract:We obtain a bounded generation theorem over $\mathcal O/\mathfrak a$, where $\mathcal O$ is the ring of integers of a number field and $\mathfrak a$ a general ideal of $\mathcal O$. This addresses a conjecture of Salehi-Golsefidy. Along the way, we obtain nontrivial bounds for additive character sums over $\mathcal O/\mathcal P^n$ for a prime ideal $\mathcal P$ with the aid of certain sum-product estimates.

Abstract:Let S be a semigroup S with an involution ⁎ : S → S satisfying ( x ⁎ ) ⁎ = x and ( x y ) ⁎ = y ⁎ x ⁎ for all x , y ∈ S . Given a , b , c ∈ S , we say that a is ( b , c ) -core invertible if there exists an x ∈ S such that c a x c = c , x S = b S and S x = S c ⁎ . It is proved that such an x is unique whenever it exists. In this case, x is called the ( b , c ) -core inverse of a. This provides a unified framework for the Moore–Penrose inverse, core inverse and w-core inverse, where w ∈ S . Several characterizations of the ( b , c ) -core inverse are derived. For instance, it is proved that a is ( b , c ) -core invertible if and only if a is ( b , c ) -invertible and c is { 1 , 3 } -invertible. Also, we introduce the dual ( b , c ) -core inverse and obtain some results dual to those on the ( b , c ) -core inverse. An element y ∈ S is called the dual ( b , c ) -core inverse of a if b y a b = b , y S = b ⁎ S and S y = S c . We show that a is both ( b , c ) -core and dual ( b , c ) -core invertible if and only if a is ( b , c ) -invertible and cab is Moore–Penrose invertible. Finally, ( b , c ) -core inverses and dual ( b , c ) -core inverses are investigated in a ring with an involution.

Abstract:The theory of generalized inverses of matrices and operators is closely connected with projections, i.e., idempotent (bounded) linear transformations. We show that a similar situation occurs in any associative ring $\mathcal{R}$ with a unit $1 \neq 0$. We prove that generalized inverses in $\mathcal{R}$ are related to idempotent group endomorphisms $\rho: \mathcal{R} \rightarrow \mathcal{R}$, called projectors. We use these relations to give characterizations and existence conditions for $\{1\}$, $\{2\}$, and $\{1,2\}$ inverses with any given principal/annihilator ideals. As a consequence, we obtain sufficient conditions for any right/left ideal of $\mathcal{R}$ to be a principal or an annihilator ideal of an idempotent element of $\mathcal{R}$. We then study some particular generalized inverses: Drazin and $(b,c)$ inverses, and in rings with involution, $(e,f)$ Moore-Penrose, $e$-core, $f$-dual core, $w$-core, $v$-dual core, right $w$-core, left $v$-dual core, and $(p,q)$ inverses.

Abstract:We study the path homology groups with coefficients in a general ring R, and show that such groups are always finitely generated. We further prove two versions of Eilenberg-Zilber theorem for the Cartesian product and the join of two regular path complexes over a commutative ring R. Hence Kunneth formulas are derived for the two cases over a PID. Note that this generalizes the related results proved for regular path complexes over a field K in [7], whose proofs can not be carried over here parallelly.

Abstract:Let $S$ be a $*$-semigroup and let $a,w,v\in S$. The initial goal of this work is to introduce two new classes of generalized inverses, called the $w$-core inverse and the dual $v$-core inverse in $S$. An element $a\in S$ is $w$-core invertible if there exists some $x\in S$ such that $awx^2=x$, $xawa=a$ and $(awx)^*=awx$. Such an $x$ is called a $w$-core inverse of $a$. It is shown that the core inverse and the pseudo core inverse can be characterized in terms of the $w$-core inverse. Several characterizations of the $w$-core inverse of $a$ are derived, and the expression is given by the inverse of $w$ along $a$ and $\{1,3\}$-inverses of $a$ in $S$. Also, the connections between the $w$-core inverse and other generalized inverses are given. In particular, when $S$ is a $*$-ring, the existence criterion for the $w$-core inverse is given by units. The dual $v$-core inverse of $a$ is defined by the existence of $y\in S$ satisfying $y^2va=y$, $avay=a$ and $(yva)^*=yva$. Dual results for the dual $v$-core inverse also hold.

Abstract:The aim of this note is to exploit a new relationship between additive combinatorics and the geometry of monomial projective curves. We associate to a finite set of non-negative integers a monomial projective curve such that the Hilbert function of and the cardinalities of agree. The singularities of determines the asymptotic behaviour of | sA |, equivalently the Hilbert polynomial of , and the asymptotic structure of sA . We show that some additive inverse problems can be translate to the rigidity of Hilbert polynomials and we improve an upper bound of the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of monomial projective curves by using results of additive combinatorics.

Abstract:In this paper, various properties of core-EP matrices are investigated. We introduce the MPDMP matrix associated with $A$ and by means of it, some properties and equivalent conditions of core-EP matrices can be obtained. Also, properties of MPD, DMP, and CMP inverses are studied and we prove that in the class of core-EP matrices, DMP, MPD, and Drazin inverses are the same. Moreover, DMP and MPD binary relation orders are introduced and the relationship between these orders and other binary relation orders are considered.

Abstract:Let $B$ be a product of finitely many finite fields containing $\mathbb F_q$, $\psi:\mathbb F_q\to \overline{\mathbb Q}_\ell^*$ a nontrivial additive character, and $\chi: B^*\to \overline{\mathbb Q}_\ell^*$ a multiplicative character. Katz introduced the so-called exotic inverted Kloosterman sum \begin{eqnarray*} \mathrm{EIK}(\mathbb F_q, a):=\sum_{\substack{x\in B^* \\ \mathrm{Tr}_{B/\mathbb F_q}(x)\not =0\\ \mathrm{N}_{B/\mathbb F_q}(x)=a}} \chi(x)\psi\Big(\frac{1}{\mathrm{Tr}_{B/\mathbb F_q}(x)}\Big), \ \ a\in \mathbb F_q^*. \end{eqnarray*} We estimate this sum using $\ell$-adic cohomology theory. Our main result is that, up to a trivial term, the associated exotic inverted Kloosterman sheaf is lisse of rank at most $2(n+1)$ and mixed of weight at most $n$, where $n+1 = \dim_{\mathbb F_q}B$. Up to a trivial main term, this gives the expected square root cancellation.

Abstract:Algebra Colloquium, Volume 31, Issue 04, Page 549-558, December 2024. We give some new characterizations of strongly one-sided [math]-invertibility of elements in rings, and establish the relations between one-sided [math]-inverses and strongly one-sided [math]-inverses. When [math], Kaplansky's theorem on the number of one-sided inverses is generalized to the case of strongly one-sided [math]-inverses. Moreover, we give some new characterizations of Dedekind-finite rings from the viewpoint of [math]-finiteness, and thus answer a question in [L. Wang, D. Mosić, The one-sided inverse along two elements in rings, Linear Multilinear Algebra 69 (13) (2021) 2410–2422].
