Abstract:Using extrapolation theory, we develop a new framework to prove the uniqueness of solutions for transport equations. We apply our methodology to unify and extend the classical results of Yudovich and Vishik for 2D Euler equations. In particular, we establish the uniqueness for the Euler flow whose vorticity belongs to new scales of function spaces that contain both Yudovich spaces and BMO. We give a self contained presentation.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is about the uniqueness of solutions to the two - dimensional Euler equations and transport equations. Specifically, the authors prove the uniqueness of solutions to these equations by introducing a new function space framework and using extrapolation theory, especially for Euler flows whose vorticity belongs to the new scale function space. These new scale function spaces include not only the classical Yudovich space but also BMO (bounded mean oscillation space). The main objectives of the paper are: 1. **Expand the Yudovich Uniqueness Theorem**: Yudovich first proved the uniqueness of weak solutions with bounded vorticity in 1963. The authors hope to extend this result to function spaces containing unbounded vorticity by introducing a new function space \( Y^{\#}_{\Theta} \). 2. **Unify and Generalize Existing Results**: Through extrapolation theory, the authors hope to unify and generalize the classical results of Yudovich and Vishik. Vishik proved the uniqueness of vorticity with logarithmic singularities in 1999 by using a different method (introducing Vishik space). The authors hope that their method can cover a wider class of vorticities and provide a more unified framework. 3. **Deal with Active Scalar Equations**: In addition to the two - dimensional Euler equations, the authors also explore more general active scalar equations, such as the surface quasi - geostrophic equation (SQG equation) and its generalizations. These equations have important applications in atmospheric science, and studying the uniqueness of their solutions has important theoretical and practical significance. ### Main Contributions - **New Function Spaces**: New function spaces \( Y^{\#}_{\Theta} \) are introduced. These spaces contain the Yudovich space and BMO space, so they can handle a wider class of vorticities. - **Application of Extrapolation Theory**: Using extrapolation theory, the authors develop a new method to prove the uniqueness of solutions. This method is applicable not only to the two - dimensional Euler equations but also to other active scalar equations. - **Improved Uniqueness Conditions**: Through the new framework, the authors can give more relaxed uniqueness conditions, especially for vorticity classes that do not satisfy the traditional Yudovich or Vishik conditions. ### Specific Problems - **Uniqueness of Vorticity**: For a given initial vorticity \( \omega_0 \), if the vorticity \( \omega \) belongs to the new function space \( Y^{\#}_{\Theta} \), then the corresponding Euler flow is unique. - **A Priori Estimates of Modulus Continuity**: Through extrapolation theory, the authors obtain a priori estimates of the modulus continuity of the velocity field, which is a key step in proving uniqueness. - **Uniqueness of Active Scalar Equations**: For more general active scalar equations, the authors also give similar uniqueness results, especially for the SQG equation and its generalizations. In conclusion, this paper provides a broader and more unified framework to deal with the uniqueness problems of the two - dimensional Euler equations and transport equations by introducing new function spaces and extrapolation theory.
