Abstract:We define a random analytic function $\varphi$ on the unit disc by letting a Gaussian multiplicative measure to be one of its Clark measures. We show that $\varphi$ is almost surely a Blaschke product and we provide rather sharp estimates for the density of its zeroes.

Abstract:Given $d\ge 1$, we provide a construction of the random measure - the critical Gaussian Multiplicative Chaos - formally defined $e^{\sqrt{2d}X}\mathrm{d} \mu$ where $X$ is a $\log$-correlated Gaussian field and $\mu$ is a locally finite measure on $\mathbb R^d$. Our construction generalizes the one performed in the case where $\mu$ is the Lebesgue measure. It requires that the measure $\mu$ is sufficiently spread out, namely that for $\mu$ almost every $x$ we have $$ \int_{B(0,1)}\frac{\mu(\mathrm{d} y)}{|x-y|^{d}e^{\rho\left(\log \frac{1}{|x-y|} \right)}}<\infty, $$ for any compact set where $\rho:\mathbb R_+\to \mathbb R_+$ can be chosen to be any lower envelope function for the $3$-Bessel process (this includes $\rho(x)=x^{\alpha}$ with $\alpha\in (0,1/2)$). We prove that three distinct random objects converge to a common limit which defines the critical GMC: the derivative martingale, the critical martingale, and the exponential of the mollified field. We also show that the above criterion for the measure $\mu$ is in a sense optimal.

Abstract:We study the value distributions of the random analytic functions on the unit disk of the form where and are independent and identically distributed random variables defined on a probability space . Some of the theorems complement the work in [6], which deals with random entire functions. We first define a family of random analytic functions in the above form, which includes Gaussian, Rademacher, and Steinhaus analytic functions. Then we prove the relationship between the integrated counting function and the norm of on the circle as is close to . As a by-product, we obtain Nevanlinna's second main theorem on the unit disk. Finally, we show theorems on the maximum modulus of and on the unit disk.

The image of random analytic functions: coverage of the complex plane via branching processes

Abstract:We consider the range of random analytic functions with finite radius of convergence. We show that any unbounded random Taylor series with rotationally invariant coefficients has dense image in the plane. We moreover show that if in addition the coefficients are complex Gaussian with sufficiently regular variances, then the image is the whole complex plane. We do this by exploiting an approximate connection between the coverage problem and spatial branching processes. This answers a long-standing open question of J.-P. Kahane, with sufficient regularity.

Abstract:In this paper, we initiate the harmonic analysis of Gaussian multiplicative chaos (GMC) on the circle, i.e. the study of its Fourier coefficients. In particular, we show that almost surely GMC is a so-called Rajchman measure which means that its Fourier coefficients converge to $0$ when the frequency goes to infinity. We supplement this result with a convergence in law result for the rescaled Fourier coefficients.

Abstract:Consider a log-correlated Gaussian field $\Gamma$ and its associated imaginary multiplicative chaos $:e^{i \beta \Gamma}:$ where $\beta$ is a real parameter. In [AJJ22], we showed that for any nonzero test function $f$, the law of $\int f :e^{i \beta \Gamma}:$ possesses a smooth density with respect to Lebesgue measure on $\mathbb{C}$. In this note, we show that this density is strictly positive everywhere on $\mathbb{C}$. Our simple and direct strategy could be useful for studying other functionals on Gaussian spaces.

Abstract:We study the characteristic polynomial of Haar distributed random unitary matrices. We show that after a suitable normalization, as one increases the size of the matrix, powers of the absolute value of the characteristic polynomial as well as powers of the exponential of its argument converge in law to a Gaussian multiplicative chaos measure for small enough real powers. This establishes a connection between random matrix theory and the theory of Gaussian multiplicative chaos.

Abstract:As represented by the Liouville measure, Gaussian multiplicative chaos is a random measure constructed from a Gaussian field. Under certain technical assumptions, we prove the convergence of a process time-changed by Gaussian multiplicative chaos in the case the latter object is square integrable (the $L^2$-regime). As examples of the main result, we prove that, in the whole $L^2$-regime, the scaling limit of the Liouville simple random walk on $\mathbb{Z}^2$ is Liouville Brownian motion and, as $\alpha \to 1$, Liouville $\alpha$-stable processes on $\mathbb{R}$ converge weakly to the Liouville Cauchy process.

Abstract:We investigate radial statistics of zeros of hyperbolic Gaussian Analytic Functions (GAF) of the form $\varphi (z) = \sum_{k\ge 0} c_k z^k$ given that $|\varphi (0)|^2=t$ and assuming coefficients $c_k$ to be independent standard complex normals. We obtain the full conditional distribution of $N_q$, the number of zeros of $\varphi (z)$ within a disk of radius $\sqrt{q}$ centred at the origin, and prove its asymptotic normality in the limit when $q\to 1^{-}$, the limit that captures the entire zero set of $\varphi (z)$. In the same limit we also develop precise estimates for conditional probabilities of moderate to large deviations from normality. Finally, we determine the asymptotic form of $P_k(t;q)=\mathrm{Prob} \{ N_q= k | |\varphi(0)|^2=t \}$ in the limit when $k$ is kept fixed whilst $q$ approaches 1. To leading order, the hole probability $P_0(t;q)$ does not depend on $t$ for $t>0$ but yet is different from that of $P_0(t=0;q)$ and coincides with the hole probability for unconditioned hyperbolic GAF of the form $\sum_{k\ge 0} \sqrt{k+1}\, c_k z^k$. We also find that asymptotically as $q \to 1^{-}$, $P_k(t;q)= e^t P_{k}(0;q)$ for every fixed $k \ge 1$ with $P_{k}(0;q)= \mathrm{Prob} \{ N_q =k-1 \}$.

On small deviations of Gaussian multiplicative chaos with a strictly logarithmic covariance on Euclidean ball

Abstract:Recognizing the regime of positive definiteness for a strictly logarithmic covariance kernel, we prove that the small deviations of a related Gaussian multiplicative chaos (GMC) $M_\gamma$ are for each natural dimension $d$ always of lognormal type, i.e. the upper and lower limits as $t\to \infty$ of $$ -\ln\Big(\mathbb{P}(M_\gamma(B(0,r))\le \delta \Big)/(\ln \delta)^2 $$ are finite and bounded away from zero. We then place the small deviations in the context of Laplace transforms of $M_\gamma$ and discuss the explicit bounds on the associated constants. We also provide some new representations of the Laplace transform of GMC related to a strictly logarithmic covariance kernel.

Abstract:In this article, we consider the multiplicative chaos measure associated to the log-correlated random Fourier series, or random wave model, with i.i.d. coefficients taken from a general class of distributions. This measure was shown to be non-degenerate when the inverse temperature is subcritical by Junnila (Int. Math. Res. Not. 2020 (2020), no. 19, 6169-6196). When the coefficients are Gaussian, this measure is an example of a Gaussian multiplicative chaos (GMC), a well-studied universal object in the study of log-correlated fields. In the case of non-Gaussian coefficients, the resulting chaos is not a GMC in general. However, for inverse temperature inside the $L^1$-regime, we construct a coupling between the non-Gaussian multiplicative chaos measure and a GMC such that the two are almost surely mutually absolutely continuous.

Abstract:We prove a Littlewood-type theorem for random analytic functions associated with not necessarily independent Gaussian processes. We show that if we randomize a function in the Hardy space H 2 ( D ) H^2(\mathbb {D}) by a Gaussian process whose covariance matrix K K induces a bounded operator on l 2 l^2 , then the resulting random function is almost surely in H p ( D ) H^p(\mathbb {D}) for any p > 0 p>0 . The case K = I d K=\mathrm {Id} , the identity operator, recovers Littlewood’s theorem. A new ingredient in our proof is to recast the membership problem as the boundedness of an operator. This reformulation enables us to use tools in functional analysis and is applicable to other situations.
A conjectural asymptotic formula for multiplicative chaos in number theory

Abstract:We investigate a special sequence of random variables A ( N ) defined by an exponential power series with independent standard complex Gaussians . Introduced by Hughes, Keating, and O'Connell in the study of random matrix theory, this sequence relates to Gaussian multiplicative chaos (in particular "holomorphic multiplicative chaos" per Najnudel, Paquette, and Simm) and random multiplicative functions. Soundararajan and Zaman recently determined the order of . By constructing an algorithm to calculate A ( N ) in steps, we produce computational evidence that their result can likely be strengthened to an asymptotic result with a numerical estimate for the asymptotic constant. We also obtain similar conclusions when A ( N ) is defined using standard real Gaussians or uniform random variables. However, our evidence suggests that the asymptotic constants do not possess a natural product structure.

Abstract:The complex Gaussian Multiplicative Chaos (or complex GMC) is informally defined as a random measure $e^{\gamma X} \mathrm{d} x$ where $X$ is a log correlated Gaussian field on $\mathbb R^d$ and $\gamma=\alpha+i\beta$ is a complex parameter. The correlation function of $X$ is of the form $$ K(x,y)= \log \frac{1}{|x-y|}+ L(x,y),$$ where $L$ is a continuous function. In the present paper, we consider the cases $\gamma\in \mathcal P_{\mathrm{I/II}}$ and $\gamma\in \mathcal{P}'_{\mathrm{II/III}}$ where $$ \mathcal P_{\mathrm{I/II}}:= \{ \alpha+i \beta \ : \alpha,\beta \in \mathbb R \ ; |\alpha|>|\beta| \ ; \ |\alpha|+|\beta|=\sqrt{2d} \}, $$ and $$ \mathcal{P}'_{\mathrm{II/III}}:= \{ \alpha+i \beta \ : \alpha,\beta \in \mathbb R \ ; \ |\alpha|= \sqrt{d/2} \ ; \ |\beta|>\sqrt{2d} \},$$ We prove that if $X$ is replaced by an approximation $X_\epsilon$ obtained via mollification, then $e^{\gamma X_\epsilon} \mathrm{d} x$, when properly rescaled, converges when $\epsilon\to 0$. The limit does not depend on the mollification kernel. When $\gamma\in \mathcal P_{\mathrm{I/II}}$, the convergence holds in probability and in $L^p$ for some value of $p\in [1,\sqrt{2d}/\alpha)$. When $\gamma\in \mathcal{P}'_{\mathrm{II/III}}$ the convergence holds only in law. In this latter case, the limit can be described a complex Gaussian white noise with a random intensity given by a critical real GMC. The regions $\mathcal P_{\mathrm{I/II}}$ and $ \mathcal{P}'_{\mathrm{II/III}}$ correspond to phase boundary between the three different regions of the complex GMC phase diagram. These results complete previous results obtained for the GMC in phase I and III and only leave as an open problem the question of convergence in phase II.

Analyticity and sparsity in uncertainty quantification for PDEs with Gaussian random field inputs

Abstract:We establish sparsity and summability results for coefficient sequences of Wiener-Hermite polynomial chaos expansions of countably-parametric solutions of linear elliptic and parabolic divergence-form partial differential equations with Gaussian random field inputs. The novel proof technique developed here is based on analytic continuation of parametric solutions into the complex domain. It differs from previous works that used bootstrap arguments and induction on the differentiation order of solution derivatives with respect to the parameters. The present holomorphy-based argument allows a unified, ``differentiation-free'' proof of sparsity (expressed in terms of $\ell^p$-summability or weighted $\ell^2$-summability) of sequences of Wiener-Hermite coefficients in polynomial chaos expansions in various scales of function spaces. The analysis also implies corresponding analyticity and sparsity results for posterior densities in Bayesian inverse problems subject to Gaussian priors on uncertain inputs from function spaces. Our results furthermore yield dimension-independent convergence rates of various \emph{constructive} high-dimensional deterministic numerical approximation schemes such as single-level and multi-level versions of Hermite-Smolyak anisotropic sparse-grid interpolation and quadrature in both forward and inverse computational uncertainty quantification.

Abstract:In this paper we characterize all distributional limits of the random quadratic form $T_n =\sum_{1\le u< v\le n} a_{u, v} X_u X_v$, where $((a_{u, v}))_{1\le u,v\le n}$ is a $\{0, 1\}$-valued symmetric matrix with zeros on the diagonal and $X_1, X_2, \ldots, X_n$ are i.i.d.~ mean $0$ variance $1$ random variables with common distribution function $F$. In particular, we show that any distributional limit of $S_n:=T_n/\sqrt{\mathrm{Var}[T_n]}$ can be expressed as the sum of three independent components: a Gaussian, a (possibly) infinite weighted sum of independent centered chi-squares, and a Gaussian mixture with a random variance. As a consequence, we prove a fourth moment theorem for the asymptotic normality of $S_n$, which applies even when $F$ does not have finite fourth moment. More formally, we show that $S_n$ converges to $N(0, 1)$ if and only if the fourth moment of $S_n$ (appropriately truncated when $F$ does not have finite fourth moment) converges to 3 (the fourth moment of the standard normal distribution).

Abstract:We prove a pointwise convergence result for additive ergodic averages associated with certain multiplicative actions of the Gaussian integers. We derive several applications in dynamics and number theory, including: (i) Wirsing's theorem for Gaussian integers: if $f\colon \mathbb{G} \to \mathbb{R}$ is a bounded completely multiplicative function, then the following limit exists: $$\lim_{N \to \infty} \frac{1}{N^2} \sum_{1 \leq m, n \leq N} f(m + {\rm i} n).$$ (ii) An answer to a special case of a question of Frantzikinakis and Host: for any completely multiplicative real-valued function $f: \mathbb{N} \to \mathbb{R}$, the following limit exists: $$\lim_{N \to \infty} \frac{1}{N^2} \sum_{1 \leq m, n \leq N} f(m^2 + n^2).$$ (iii) A variant of a theorem of Bergelson and Richter on ergodic averages along the $\Omega$ function: if $(X,T)$ is a uniquely ergodic system with unique invariant measure $\mu$, then for any $x\in X$ and $f\in C(X)$, $$\lim_{N\to\infty}\frac{1}{N^2}\sum_{1 \leq m, n \leq N} f(T^{\Omega(m^2 + n^2)}x)=\int_Xf \ d\mu.$$

Abstract:On the flat torus $\mathbb{T}^m=\mathbb{R}^m/\mathbb{Z}^m$ with angular coordinates $\vec{\theta}$ we consider the random function $F_R=\mathfrak{a}\big(\, R^{-1} \sqrt{\Delta}\,\big) W$, where $R>0$, $\Delta$ is the Laplacian on this flat torus, $\mathfrak{a}$ is an even Schwartz function on $\mathbb{R}$ such that $\mathfrak{a}(0)>0$ and $W$ is the Gaussian white noise on $\mathbb{T}^m$ viewed as a random generalized function. For any $f\in C(\mathbb{T}^m)$ we set \[ Z_R(f):=\sum_{\nabla F_R(\vec{\theta})=0} f(\vec{\theta}) \] We prove that if the support of $f$ is contained in a geodesic ball of $\mathbb{T}^m$, then the variance of $Z_R(f)$ is asymptotic to $const\times R^{m}$ as $R\to\infty$.
