Abstract:Let $f:X \to S$ be a projective morphism of noetherian schemes and let $L$ be an invertible sheaf on $X$. We show that the relative augmented base locus of $L$ coincides with the relative exceptional locus of $L$. We also prove a semi-ampleness criterion in terms of the exceptional locus generalizing the result of Keel.

Abstract:We show that the augmented base locus coincides with the exceptional locus (i.e. null locus) for any nef $\mathbb{R}$-Cartier divisor on any scheme projective over a field (of any characteristic). Next we prove a semi-ampleness criterion in terms of the augmented base locus generalizing a result of Keel. We also study nef divisors with positive top intersection number, and discuss some problems related to augmented base loci of log divisors.

Abstract:Motivated by an indecomposability criterion of Xun Lin for the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves on a smooth projective variety $X$, we study the paracanonical base locus of $X$, that is the intersection of the base loci of $\omega_X \otimes P_{\alpha}$, for all $\alpha \in \mathrm{Pic}^0 X$. We prove that this is equal to the relative base locus of $\omega_X$ with respect to the Albanese morphism of $X$. As an application, we get that bounded derived categories of Hilbert schemes of points on certain surfaces do not admit non-trivial semi-orthogonal decompositions. We also have a consequence on the indecomposability of bounded derived categories in families. Finally, our viewpoint allows to unify and extend some results recently appearing in the literature.

Abstract:Let (X, B) be a projective log canonical pair such that B is a Q-divisor, and that there is a surjective morphism f : X -> Z onto a normal variety Z satisfying K-X + B similar to (Q) f*M for some big Q-divisor M, and the augmented base locus B+(M) does not contain the image of any log canonical centre of (X, B). We will show that (X, B) has a good log minimal model. An interesting special case is when f is the identity morphism.
Moduli spaces of semiorthogonal decompositions in families

Abstract:For a smooth projective family of schemes we prove that a semiorthogonal decomposition of the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves of a fibre uniquely deforms over an étale neighbourhood of the point. We do this using a comparison theorem between semiorthogonal decompositions and decomposition triangles of the structure sheaf of the diagonal. We then apply to the latter a deformation theory for morphisms with a fixed lift of the target, which is developed in the appendix. Using this as a key ingredient we introduce a moduli space which classifies semiorthogonal decompositions of the category of perfect complexes of a smooth projective family. Using Artin's criterion, we show that this is an étale algebraic space over the base scheme of the family, which can be non-quasicompact and non-separated. We generalise this to families of geometric noncommutative schemes in the sense of Orlov. We also define a subfunctor classifying nontrivial semiorthogonal decompositions only, and conjecture it is an open and closed subspace.

Flat relative Mittag-Leffler modules and Zariski locality

Abstract:The ascent and descent of the Mittag-Leffler property were instrumental in proving Zariski locality of the notion of an (infinite dimensional) vector bundle by Raynaud and Gruson in \cite{RG}. More recently, relative Mittag-Leffler modules were employed in the theory of (infinitely generated) tilting modules and the associated quasi-coherent sheaves, \cite{AH}, \cite{HST}. Here, we study the ascent and descent along flat and faithfully flat homomorphisms for relative versions of the Mittag-Leffler property. In particular, we prove the Zariski locality of the notion of a locally f-projective quasi-coherent sheaf for all schemes, and for each $n \geq 1$, of the notion of an $n$-Drinfeld vector bundle for all locally noetherian schemes.

Higher Dimensional Brill-Noether Loci and Moduli for Very Ample Line Bundles

Abstract:In this paper, we study Brill-Noether loci for higher dimensional varieties. Let $M$ be a moduli space of coherent sheaves on $X$. The Brill-Noether loci of $M$ are the closed subsets $\{\mathcal{F} \in M : h^0(X,\mathcal{F}) \geq k+1\}$. When $X$ is a smooth curve and $M = \textbf{Pic}_X^d$, the space of degree $d$ line bundles on $X$, the Brill-Noether loci have a natural determinantal scheme structure coming from a map of vector bundles on $\textbf{Pic}_X^d$, which is the main tool in studying their geometry. In [CMR10], the authors generalize this to the case where $X$ is any variety and $M$ is the moduli space of stable vector bundles on $X$ with fixed invariants but require that $H^i(X,E) = 0$ for all $E \in M$ and $i \geq 2$. We generalize these results by showing how to give a natural determinantal scheme structure to the Brill-Noether loci for any $X$ and any $M$. In doing so we develop the theory of Fitting ideals for a complex which can be used to define natural scheme structures in other cases as well, such as the locus of points where the projective dimension of a coherent sheaf jumps up. As an application of our results, we construct moduli spaces for very ample line bundles on a variety.

Abstract:Assume that $R$ is a non-right perfect ring. Then there is a proper class of classes of (right $R$-) modules closed under transfinite extensions lying between the classes $\mathcal P _0$ of projective modules, and $\mathcal F _0$ of flat modules. These classes can be defined as variants of the class $\mathcal F \mathcal M$ of absolute flat Mittag-Leffler modules: either as their restricted versions (lying between $\mathcal P _0$ and $\mathcal F \mathcal M$), or their relative versions (between $\mathcal F \mathcal M$ and $\mathcal F _0$). In this survey, we will deal with applications of these classes in relative homological algebra and algebraic geometry. The classes $\mathcal P _0$ and $\mathcal F _0$ are known to provide for approximations, and minimal approximations, respectively. We will show that the classes of restricted flat relative Mittag-Leffler modules, and flat relative Mittag-Leffler modules, have rather different approximation properties: the former classes always provide for approximations, but the latter do not, except for the boundary case of $\mathcal F _0$. The notion of an (infinite dimensional) vector bundle is known to be Zariski local for all schemes, the key point of the proof being that projectivity ascends and descends along flat and faithfully flat ring homomorphisms, respectively. We will see that the same holds for the properties of being a $\kappa$-restricted flat Mittag-Leffler module for each cardinal $\kappa \geq \aleph_0$, and also a flat $\mathcal Q$-Mittag-Leffler module whenever $\mathcal Q$ is a definable class of finite type. Thus, as in the model case of vector bundles, Zariski locality holds for flat quasi-coherent sheaves induced by each of these classes of modules. Moreover, we will see that the notion of a locally $n$-tilting quasi-coherent sheaf is Zariski local for all $n \geq 0$.
The Degeneracy Loci for Smooth Moduli of Sheaves

Abstract:Let S be a smooth projective surface over $\mathbb{C}$. We prove that, under certain technical assumptions, the degeneracy locus of the universal sheaf over the moduli space of stable sheaves is either empty or an irreducible Cohen-Macaulay variety of the expected dimension. We also provide a criterion for when the degeneracy locus is non-empty. This result generalizes the work of Bayer, Chen, and Jiang for the Hilbert scheme of points on surfaces. The above result is a special case of a general phenomenon: for a perfect complex of Tor-amplitude [0,1], the geometry of the degeneracy locus is closely related to the geometry of the derived Grassmannian. We analyze their birational geometry and relate it to the incidence varieties of derived Grassmannians. As a corollary, we prove a statement previously claimed by the author in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2408.06860" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2408.06860">arXiv:2408.06860</a>.

Auslander orders over nodal stacky curves and partially wrapped Fukaya categories

Abstract:It follows from the work of Burban and Drozd <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="0905.1231" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/0905.1231">arXiv:0905.1231</a> that for nodal curves $C$, the derived category of modules over the Auslander order $\mathcal{A}_C$ provides a categorical (smooth and proper) resolution of the category of perfect complexes $\mathrm{Perf}(C)$. On the A-side, it follows from the work of Haiden-Katzarkov-Kontsevich <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1409.8611" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1409.8611">arXiv:1409.8611</a> that for punctured surfaces $X$ with stops $\Lambda$ at their boundary, the partially wrapped Fukaya category $\mathcal{W}(X,\Lambda)$ provides a categorical (smooth and proper) resolution of the compact Fukaya category $\mathcal{F}(X)$. Inspired by this analogy, we establish an equivalence between the derived category of modules over the Auslander orders over certain nodal stacky curves and partially wrapped Fukaya categories associated to punctured surfaces of arbitrary genus equipped with stops at their boundary. As an application, we deduce equivalences between derived categories of coherent sheaves (resp. perfect complexes) on such nodal stacky curves and the wrapped (resp. compact) Fukaya categories of punctured surfaces of arbitrary genus.

Abstract:We prove a finiteness theorem and a comparison theorem in the theory of étale cohomology of rigid analytic varieties. By a result of Huber, for a quasi-compact separated morphism of rigid analytic varieties with target being of dimension , the compactly supported higher direct image preserves quasi-constructibility. Though the analogous statement for morphisms with higher dimensional target fails in general, we prove that, in the algebraizable case, it holds after replacing the target with a modification. We deduce it from a known finiteness result in the theory of nearby cycles over general bases and a new comparison result, which gives an identification of the compactly supported higher direct image sheaves, up to modification of the target, in terms of nearby cycles over general bases.

The relative minimal model program for excellent algebraic spaces and analytic spaces in equal characteristic zero

Abstract:We establish the relative minimal model program with scaling for projective morphisms of quasi-excellent algebraic spaces admitting dualizing complexes, quasi-excellent formal schemes admitting dualizing complexes, semianalytic germs of complex analytic spaces, rigid analytic spaces, Berkovich spaces, and adic spaces locally of weakly finite type over a field, all in equal characteristic zero. To do so, we prove finite generation of relative adjoint rings associated to projective morphisms of such spaces using the strategy of Cascini and Lazić and the generalization of the Kawamata-Viehweg vanishing theorem to the scheme setting recently established by the second author. To prove these results uniformly, we prove GAGA theorems for Grothendieck duality and dualizing complexes to reduce to the algebraic case. In addition, we apply our methods to establish the relative minimal model program with scaling for spaces of the form above in dimensions $\le 3$ in positive and mixed characteristic, and to show that one can run the relative minimal model program with scaling for complex analytic spaces without shrinking the base at each step.

Abstract:Anel and Toën proved that a smooth projective complex variety has only countably many smooth projective Fourier-Mukai partners up to isomorphism. This is generalized in the Stacks Project to the case where the varieties are smooth proper over an arbitrary algebraically closed field. This note will upgrade the proof of the latter reference to show that a smooth proper scheme over a noetherian base has only countably many relative Fourier-Mukai partners up to isomorphism.

Fano foliations with small algebraic ranks

Abstract:In this paper we study the algebraic ranks of foliations on $\mathbb{Q}$-factorial normal projective varieties. We start by establishing a Kobayashi-Ochiai's theorem for Fano foliations in terms of algebraic rank. We then investigate the local positivity of the anti-canonical divisors of foliations, obtaining a lower bound for the algebraic rank of a foliation in terms of Seshadri constant. We describe those foliations whose algebraic rank slightly exceeds this bound and classify Fano foliations on smooth projective varieties attaining this bound. Finally we construct several examples to illustrate the general situation, which in particular allow us to answer a question asked by Araujo and Druel on the generalised indices of foliations.

Abstract:In this paper we identify the cotangent to the derived stack of representations of a quiver $Q$ with the derived moduli stack of modules over the Ginzburg dg-algebra associated with $Q$. More generally, we extend this result to finite type dg-categories, to a relative setting as well, and to deformations of these. It allows us to recover and generalize some results of Yeung, and leads us to the discovery of seemingly new lagrangian subvarieties in the Hilbert scheme of points in the plane.

In particualar, we establish a relative version of Diaconescu's theorem, characterizing the relative geometric morphisms towards a relative sheaf topos in terms of a notion of flat (equivalently, filtered) functor relative to the base topos.

Abstract:We give scheme-theoretic descriptions of the category of fibre functors on the categories of sheaves associated to the Zariski, Nisnevich, étale, rh, cdh, ldh, eh, qfh, and h topologies on the category of separated schemes of finite type over a separated noetherian base. Combined with a theorem of Deligne on the existence of enough points, this provides an algebro-geometric description of a conservative family of fibre functors on these categories of sheaves. As an example of an application we show that direct image along a closed immersion is exact for all these topologies except qfh. The methods are transportable to other categories of sheaves as well.

A solution to Fujita's freeness conjecture via an extension theorem with analytic adjoint ideal sheaves

Abstract:The effective freeness in Fujita's conjecture states that, for an ample line bundle $L$ on a complex projective manifold $X$, the adjoint bundle $K_X\otimes L^{\otimes m}$ is globally generated when $m \geq \dim_{\mathbb C} X + 1$. Following the approach of Angehrn and Siu, a solution is provided in this paper via the use of adjoint ideal sheaves, which provide a finer control of the non-integrable loci given by multiplier ideal sheaves, so that one can work directly with the lc singularities and the associated (minimal) lc centres as in the algebraic approaches of Kawamata and Helmke. The substitute for the Nadel or Kawamata-Viehweg vanishing theorem used in previous approaches is an extension theorem based on the techniques developed for the injectivity theorems.

A Beauville-Laszlo-type descent theorem for locally Noetherian schemes

Abstract:Let $X$ be a locally Noetherian scheme with a closed subscheme $Z$. Let $\mathcal{X}$ be the completion of $X$ at $Z$, considered as a formal scheme. We show that a coherent sheaf on $X$ is equivalently given by a coherent sheaf on $\mathcal{X}$, a coherent sheaf on the complement of $Z$, and an isomorphism of pullbacks of these sheaves to a certain adic space $W$. By defining $W$ as an adic space instead of as a Berkovich space we are able to generalize the descent result of Ben-Bassat and Temkin from finite type $k$-schemes to locally Noetherian schemes.

Abstract:We prove a local analog of the Deligne-Riemann-Roch isomorphism in the case of line bundles and relative dimension . This local analog consists in computation of the class of th power of the determinant central extension of a group ind-scheme by the multiplicative group scheme over via the product of -cocyles in the second cohomology group. These -cocycles are the compositions of the Contou-Carrère symbol with the -product of -cocycles. The group ind-scheme represents the functor which assigns to every commutative ring the group that is the semidirect product of the group of invertible elements of and the group of continuous -automorphisms of -algebra . The determinant central extension naturally acts on the determinant line bundle on the moduli stack of geometric data (proper quintets). A proper quintet is a collection of a proper family of curves over , a line bundle on this family, a section of this family, a relative formal parameter at the section, a formal trivialization of the bundle at the section that satisfy further conditions.

Abstract:We prove that the asymptotic base loci of an NQC klt generalized pair with big canonical class are uniruled. We also show that the non-nef locus and the diminished base locus of the adjoint divisor of an NQC log canonical generalized pair coincide. As applications, we study the uniruledness of the asymptotic base loci associated with pseudo-effective divisors on generalized log Calabi-Yau type varieties.
