Abstract:Let $\alpha$ \in (0; 1). We show that any $\alpha$-Hölder homeomorphism from the unit circle in the plane to the plane can be extended to an $\alpha$-Hölder homeomorphism from the whole unit disc.

Abstract:We study the basic question of characterizing which boundary homeomorphisms of the unit sphere can be extended to a Sobolev homeomorphism of the interior in 3D space. While the planar variants of this problem are well-understood, completely new and direct ways of constructing an extension are required in 3D. We prove, among other things, that a Sobolev homeomorphism φ : R 2 → onto R 2 in W loc 1 , p ( R 2 , R 2 ) for some p ∈ [ 1 , ∞ ) admits a homeomorphic extension h : R 3 → onto R 3 in W loc 1 , q ( R 3 , R 3 ) for 1 ⩽ q < 3 2 p . Such an extension result is nearly sharp, as the bound q = 3 2 p cannot be improved due to the Hölder embedding. The case q = 3 gains an additional interest as it also provides an L 1 -variant of the celebrated Beurling-Ahlfors quasiconformal extension result.

Abstract:Consider the regular Dirichlet extension (ℰ,ℱ) for one-dimensional Brownian motion, that H^1(ℝ) is a subspace of ℱ and ℰ(f,g)=1/2𝐃(f,g) for f,g∈ H^1(ℝ). Both H^1(ℝ) and ℱ are Hilbert spaces under ℰ_α and hence there is α-orthogonal compliment 𝒢_α. We give the explicit expression for functions in 𝒢_α which then can be described by another two spaces. Abstract:We study the level sets of prevalent Hölder functions. For a prevalent $\alpha$-Hölder function on the unit interval, we show that the upper Minkowski dimension of every level set is bounded from above by $1-\alpha$ and Lebesgue positively many level sets have Hausdorff dimension equal to $1-\alpha$.

Abstract:Each homeomorphic parametrization of a Jordan curve via the unit circle extends to a homeomorphism of the entire plane. It is a natural question to ask if such a homeomorphism can be chosen so as to have some Sobolev regularity. This prompts the simplified question: for a homeomorphic embedding of the unit circle into the plane, when can we find a homeomorphism from the unit disk that has the same boundary values and integrable first-order distributional derivatives? We give the optimal geometric criterion for the interior Jordan domain so that there exists a Sobolev homeomorphic extension for any homeomorphic parametrization of the Jordan curve. The problem is partially motivated by trying to understand which boundary values can correspond to deformations of finite energy.

Stable classes of harmonic mappings

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{H}_0$ denote the set of all sense-preserving harmonic mappings $f=h+\overline{g}$ in the unit disk $\ID$, normalized with $h(0)=g(0)=g'(0)=0$ and $h'(0)=1$. In this paper, we investigate some properties of certain subclasses of $\mathcal{H}_0$, including inclusion relations and stability analysis by precise examples, coefficient bounds, growth, covering and distortion theorems. As applications, we build some Bohr inequalities for these subclasses by means of subordination. Among these subclasses, six classes consist of functions $f=h+\overline{g}\in\mathcal{H}_0$ such that $h+\epsilon g$ is univalent (or convex) in $\D$ for each $|\epsilon|=1$ (or for some $|\epsilon|=1$, or for some $|\epsilon|\leq1$). Simple analysis shows that if the function $f=h+\overline{g}$ belongs to a given class from these six classes, then the functions $h+\overline{\epsilon g}$ belong to corresponding class for all $|\epsilon|=1$. We call these classes as stable classes.

Abstract:Abstract Let $H^\infty $ be the algebra of bounded holomorphic functions on the open unit disk, and let $\mathfrak M$ be its maximal ideal space. Let $\mathfrak M_a$ be the union of nontrivial Gleason parts (analytic disks) of $\mathfrak M$ . In this paper, we study the problem of extensions of bounded Banach-valued holomorphic functions and holomorphic maps with values in Oka manifolds from Gleason parts of $\mathfrak M_a\setminus \mathbb {D}$ . The resulting extensions satisfy the uniform boundedness principle in the sense that their norms are bounded by constants that do not depend on the choice of the Gleason part. The results extend fundamental results of D. Suárez on the characterization of the algebra of restrictions of Gelfand transforms of functions in $H^\infty $ to Gleason parts of $ \mathfrak M_a\setminus \mathbb {D}$ . The proofs utilize our recent advances on $\bar \partial $ -equations on quasi-interpolating sets and Runge-type approximations.

Abstract:On closed symplectically aspherical manifolds, Schwarz proved a classical result that the action function of a nontrivial Hamiltonian diffeomorphism is not constant by using Floer homology. In this article, we generalize Schwarz's theorem to the $C^0$-case on closed aspherical surfaces. Our methods involve the theory of transverse foliations for dynamical systems of surfaces inspired by Le Calvez and its recent progresses. As an application, we prove that the contractible fixed points set (and consequently the fixed points set) of a nontrivial Hamiltonian homeomorphism is not connected. Furthermore, we obtain that the growth of the action width of a Hamiltonian homeomorphism increases at least linearly, and that the group of Hamiltonian homeomorphisms of $\mathbb{T}^2$ and the group of area preserving homeomorphisms isotopic to the identity of $\Sigma_g$ ($g>1$) are torsion free, where $\Sigma_g$ is a closed orientated surface with genus $g$. Finally, we will show how the $C^1$-Zimmer's conjecture on surfaces deduces from $C^0$-Schwarz's theorem.

Abstract:We establish that every $K$-quasiconformal mapping $w$ of the unit ball $\IB$ onto a $C^2$-Jordan domain $\Omega$ is Hölder continuous with constant $\alpha= 2-\frac{n}{p}$, provided that its weak Laplacean $\Delta w$ is in $ L^p(\IB)$ for some $n/2<p<n$. In particular it is Hölder continuous for every $0<\alpha<1$ provided that $\Delta w\in L^n(\IB)$.

Linearizations of periodic point free distal homeomorphisms on the annulus

Abstract:Let $\mathbb{A}$ be an annulus in the plane $\mathbb R^2$ and $g:\mathbb{A}\rightarrow \mathbb{A}$ be a boundary components preserving homeomorphism which is distal and has no periodic points. In \cite{SXY}, the authors show that there is a continuous decomposition $\mathcal P$ of $\mathbb{A}$ into $g$-invariant circles such that all the restrictions of $g$ on them share a common irrational rotation number (also called the rotation number of $g$) and all these circles are linearly ordered by the inclusion relation on the sets of bounded components of their complements in $\mathbb R^2$. In this note, we show that if the decomposition $\mathcal P$ above has a continuous section, then $g$ can be linearized, that is it is topologically conjugate to a rigid rotation on $\mathbb{A}$. For every irrational number $\alpha\in (0, 1)$, we show the existence of such a distal homeomorphism $g$ on $\mathbb{A}$ that it cannot be linearized and its rotation number is $\alpha$.

Abstract:Abstract Let be a subset of a Hilbert space. We prove that if is such that for all and all non‐negative that add up to one, then for any 1‐Lipschitz , with , there exists a 1‐Lipschitz extension of such that the uniform distance on between and is the same as the uniform distance on between and . Moreover, if either or is convex, we prove the converse: We show that a map that allows for a 1‐Lipschitz, uniform distance preserving extension of any 1‐Lipschitz map on a subset of also satisfies the above set of inequalities. We also prove a similar continuity result concerning extensions of monotone maps. Our results hold true also for maps taking values in infinite‐dimensional spaces.

On isomorphism of the space of $α$-Hölder continuous functions with finite $p$-th variation

Abstract:We study the concept of (generalized) $p$-th variation of a real-valued continuous function along a general class of refining sequence of partitions. We show that the finiteness of the $p$-th variation of a given function is closely related to the finiteness of $\ell^p$-norm of the coefficients along a Schauder basis, similar to the fact that Hölder coefficient of the function is connected to $\ell^{\infty}$-norm of the Schauder coefficients. This result provides an isomorphism between the space of $\alpha$-Hölder continuous functions with finite (generalized) $p$-th variation along a given partition sequence and a subclass of infinite-dimensional matrices equipped with an appropriate norm, in the spirit of Ciesielski.

Abstract:We show that every cross ratio preserving homeomorphism between boundaries of Hadamard manifolds extends to a map, called circumcenter extension, provided that the manifolds satisfy certain visibility conditions. We describe regions on which this map is Hölder-continuous. Furthermore, we show that this map is a rough isometry, whenever the manifolds admit cocompact group actions by isometries and we improve previously known quasi-isometry constants, provided by Biswas, in the case of 2-dimensional manifolds. Finally, we provide a sufficient condition for this map to be an isometry in the case of Hadamard surfaces.

Abstract:In this paper, the linear structure of the family $H_e(G)$ of holomorphic functions in a domain $G$ of the complex plane that are not analytically continuable beyond the boundary of $G$ is analyzed. We prove that $H_e(G)$ contains, except for zero, a dense algebra; and, under appropriate conditions, the subfamily of $H_e(G)$ consisting of boundary-regular functions contains dense vector spaces with maximal dimension, as well as infinite dimensional closed vector spaces and large algebras. The case in which $G$ is a domain of existence in a complex Banach space is also considered. The results obtained complete or extend a number of previous ones by several authors.

Abstract:Given two complex Hilbert spaces $H$ and $K$, let $S(B(H))$ and $S(B(K))$ denote the unit spheres of the C$^*$-algebras $B(H)$ and $B(K)$ of all bounded linear operators on $H$ and $K$, respectively. We prove that every surjective isometry $f: S(B(K)) \to S(B(H))$ admits an extension to a surjective complex linear or conjugate linear isometry $T: B(K)\to B(H)$. This provides a positive answer to Tingley's problem in the setting of $B(H)$ spaces.
