Abstract:In this paper we study the singular limit for critical points of boundary reactions \begin{equation*} (-\Delta)^{\frac{1}{2}}u = \frac{1}{\varepsilon}(u-u^3) \quad \text{in } U \subset \textbf{R}^n . \end{equation*} We show the existence of a $(n-1)$-rectifiable energy concentration set. Furthermore, we show that the limit of the energy measures can be associated to a stationary, $(n-1)$-rectifiable varifold supported in the concentration set. This is analogous to a result of Hutchinson and Tonegawa for phase transitions.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to study the behavior of critical points in boundary reactions in the singular limit, especially focusing on the properties of the energy concentration set in \(U \subset \mathbb{R}^n\) of the solutions of the fractional - Laplace equation \((-∆)^{1/2}u=\frac{1}{ε}(u - u^3)\). Specifically, the author aims to prove: 1. **Existence of the energy concentration set**: There exists an \((n - 1)\)-countable set such that the energy is concentrated on this set. 2. **Limit of the energy measure**: The limit of the energy measure can be associated with a stationary, \((n - 1)\)-countable varifold supported on the energy concentration set. The research background of this problem involves minimal surfaces and phase - transition theory, especially the interface behavior in non - local phase transitions. Traditional phase - transition theory usually uses the local Allen - Cahn equation to describe the phase - transition process, while this paper explores the application of the fractional - order Allen - Cahn equation in boundary reactions. ### Specific problem description The equation considered in the paper is: \[(-∆)^{1/2}u=\frac{1}{ε}(u - u^3)\quad\text{in}\quad U \subset \mathbb{R}^n\] where \(u\) is the density function, \(U\) is a bounded region, and \(W(u)=\frac{(1 - u^2)^2}{4}\) is a double - well potential function that penalizes density values far from \(\pm1\). When \(\varepsilon\rightarrow0\), it is expected that the phase - transition interface will converge to a minimal hypersurface. ### Main contributions 1. **Existence of the energy concentration set**: It is proved that there exists an \((n - 1)\)-countable set such that the energy is concentrated on this set. 2. **Limit of the energy measure**: It is proved that the limit of the energy measure can be associated with a stationary, \((n - 1)\)-countable varifold supported on the energy concentration set. 3. **Analogy with classical results**: These results are similar to the classical results of Hutchinson and Tonegawa for phase - transition problems. ### Research significance This research not only extends the classical phase - transition theory but also provides a new perspective for understanding the interface behavior in non - local phase transitions. This is of great significance for many practical problems in materials science, physics, and mathematics, especially when studying the influence of long - range interactions on the phase - transition process.
