Abstract:Dilatations modify categories by imposing that some morphisms factorize through some others. This is formalized by a universal property. This text is devoted to introduce and study this construction. Examples of dilatations of categories include localizations of categories and dilatations of rings.

Abstract:We introduce multi-centered dilatations of rings, schemes and algebraic spaces, a basic algebraic concept. Dilatations of schemes endowed with a structure (e.g. monoid, group or Lie algebra) are in favorable cases schemes endowed with the same structure. As applications, we use our new formalism to contribute to the understanding of mono-centered dilatations, to formulate and deduce some multi-centered congruent isomorphisms and to interpret Rost double deformation space as a "double-centered" dilatation.

Abstract:In this article we prove that there exists a relation between $d$-pre-Calabi-Yau morphisms introduced by M. Kontsevich, A. Takeda and Y. Vlassopoulos and cyclic $A_{\infty}$-morphisms, extending a result proved by D. Fernández and E. Herscovich. This leads to a functor between the category of $d$-pre-Calabi-Yau structures and the partial category of $A_{\infty}$-categories of the form $\mathcal{A}\oplus\mathcal{A}^*[d-1]$ with $\mathcal{A}$ a graded quiver and whose morphisms are the data of an $A_{\infty}$-structure on $\mathcal{A}\oplus\mathcal{B}^*[d-1]$ together with $A_{\infty}$-morphisms $\mathcal{A}[1]\oplus\mathcal{B}^*[d]\rightarrow \mathcal{A}[1]\oplus\mathcal{A}^*[d]$ and $\mathcal{A}[1]\oplus\mathcal{B}^*[d]\rightarrow \mathcal{B}[1]\oplus\mathcal{B}^*[d]$.

Abstract:The framework of templicial objects was put forth in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2302.02484v1" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2302.02484v1">arXiv:2302.02484v1</a> in order to develop higher categorical concepts in the presence of enrichment. In particular, quasi-categories in modules constitute a subclass of templicial modules which may be considered as a kind of "weak dg-categories (concentrated in homologically positive degrees)" according to <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2005.04778v3" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2005.04778v3">arXiv:2005.04778v3</a>. The main goal of the present paper is to initiate the deformation theory of templicial modules. In particular, we show that quasi-categories in modules are preserved under levelwise flat infinitesimal deformation.

Deformations of objects in $n$-categories

Abstract:In this paper, we prove that the deformation theory of an object in an $n$-category is controlled by the its $n$-fold endomorphism algebra. This recovers Lurie's results on deforming objects and categories. We also generalize a previous result by Blanc et al. on deforming a category and an object simultaneously to the case of $n$-categories.

Abstract:We define and study the $(\infty,2)$-category $\mathbf{Cat}_{\infty}(\mathcal{C})$ of $(\infty,1)$-categories internal to a general $(\infty,1)$-category $\mathcal{C}$ via an associated externalization construction. In the first part, we show various formal closure properties of $\mathbf{Cat}_{\infty}(\mathcal{C})$ regarding limits, tensors, cotensors and internal mapping objects under the assumption of various suitable closure properties of $\mathcal{C}$. In particular, we show that $\mathbf{Cat}_{\infty}(\mathcal{C})$ defines a cartesian closed full sub-$\infty$-cosmos of the $\infty$-cosmos $\mathbf{Fun}(\mathcal{C}^{op},\mathbf{Cat}_{\infty})$ of $\mathcal{C}$-indexed $(\infty,1)$-categories under suitable assumptions on $\mathcal{C}$. We furthermore characterize the objects of $\mathbf{Cat}_{\infty}(\mathcal{C})$ by means of a Yoneda lemma that expresses indexed diagrams of internal shape over $\mathcal{C}$ in terms of an $(\infty,1)$-categorical totalization. In the second part, we relate the general theory developed to this point to results in the model categorical literature. We show that every model category $\mathbb{M}$ gives rise to a ''hands-on'' $\infty$-cosmos $\mathbf{Cat}_{\infty}(\mathbb{M})$ (of not-necessarily cofibrant objects) directly by restriction of the Reedy model structure on $\mathbb{M}^{\Delta^{op}}$. We then define an according right derived model categorical externalization functor, and use it to show that the $(\infty,1)$-categorical and the model categorical constructions correspond to one another whenever $\mathcal{C}$ is presentable and $\mathbb{M}$ is a suitable presentation thereof.

$ A_\infty $-Deformations and their Derived Categories

Abstract:Handling curved $ A_\infty $-deformations is challenging and defining their derived categories seems impossible. In this paper, we show how to welcome the curvature and build derived categories despite the apparent difficulties. We explicitly describe their $ A_\infty $-structure by a deformed Kadeishvili theorem. This paper starts with a review of $ A_\infty $-deformations for non-specialists. We explain why $ A_\infty $-deformations require curvature and why curvature supposedly causes problems. We prove that infinitesimally curved $ A_\infty $-deformations are in fact non-problematic and provide the correct definitions for their twisted completion and minimal model. The classical Kadeishvili theorem collapses for curved deformations. We show how to adapt it by iteratively optimizing the curvature and changing the homological splitting infinitesimally. The final $ A_\infty $-structure on the minimal model is constructed in terms of trees.

Abstract:We survey the theory of locally rigid and rigid symmetric monoidal $\infty$-categories over an arbitrary base $\mathcal{V}\in\mathrm{CAlg}(\mathbf{Pr}^\mathrm{L})$. Along the way, we introduce and study ``$\mathcal{V}$-atomic morphisms'', which are analogues of compact morphisms over an arbitrary base $\mathcal{V}$.

Gluing of infinitesimal models of algebraic theories

Abstract:Categories of models of algebraic theories have good categorical properties except for gluing. Building upon insights and examples from Synthetic Differential Geometry, we introduce a generalisation of models of algebraic theories to infinitesimal models. We demonstrate that the category of infinitesimal models retains most of the good categorical properties, but with a stark improvement in the behaviour of gluing. This makes infinitesimal models an interesting natural construction with the ability to interpolate between algebra and geometry.

Abstract:The aim of this article is to study certain categorical-algebraic frameworks for basic homological algebra, introduced in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2404.15896" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2404.15896">arXiv:2404.15896</a>, with the aim of better understanding the differences between them. We focus on homological self-duality, preservation of normal maps by dinversion and diexactness, finding counterexamples that separate any two of these conditions. On the way, we encounter new examples and new characterizations, such as the Second Isomorphism Property. We also consider homological self-duality in the context of regular categories. Our main technique is to investigate the lattice of normal subobjects of an object in any pointed category with kernels and cokernels. The category of monoidal semilattices is a context where we have easy control of these lattices. We show that properties of the homological frameworks under consideration may be expressed by means of lattice-theoretical properties, such as modularity and distributivity.

Abstract:For a composition-closed and pullback-stable class S of morphisms in a category C containing all isomorphisms, we form the category Span(C,S) of S-spans (s,f) in C with first "leg" s lying in S, and give an alternative construction of its quotient category C[S^{-1}] of S-fractions. Instead of trying to turn S-morphisms "directly" into isomorphisms, we turn them separately into retractions and into sections in a universal manner, thus obtaining the quotient categories Retr( C,S) and Sect(C,S). The fraction category C[S^{-1}] is their largest joint quotient category. Without confining S to be a class of monomorphisms of C, we show that Sect(C,S) admits a quotient category, Par(C,S), whose name is justified by two facts. On one hand, for S a class of monomorphisms in C, it returns the category of S-spans in C, also called S-partial maps in this case; on the other hand, we prove that Par(C,S) is a split restriction category (in the sense of Cockett and Lack). A further quotient construction produces even a range category (in the sense of Cockett, Guo and Hofstra), RaPar(C,S), which is still large enough to admit C[S^{-1}] as its quotient. Both, Par and RaPar, are the left adjoints of global 2-adjunctions. When restricting these to their "fixed objects", one obtains precisely the 2-equivalences by which their name givers characterized restriction and range categories. Hence, both Par(C,S)$ and RaPar(C,S may be naturally presented as Par(D,T)$ and RaPa(D,T), respectively, where now T is a class of monomorphisms in D. In summary, while there is no {\em a priori} need for the exclusive consideration of classes of monomorphisms, one may resort to them naturally

Abstract:Let $A$ be a finite-dimensional algebra, and $\mathfrak{M}$ be a $d$-cluster tilting subcategory of mod$A$. From the viewpoint of higher homological algebra, a natural question to ask is when $\mathfrak{M}$ induces a $d$-cluster tilting subcategory in Mod$A$. In this paper, we investigate this question in a more general form. Let $\mathcal{M}$ be a small $d$-abelian category of an abelian category $\mathcal{A}$. The completion of $\mathcal{M}$, denoted by Ind$(\mathcal{M})$, is defined as the universal completion of $\mathcal{M}$ with respect to filtered colimits. We explore Ind$(\mathcal{M})$ and demonstrate its equivalence to the full subcategory $\mathcal{L}_d(\mathcal{M})$ of Mod$\mathcal{M}$, comprising left $d$-exact functors. Notably, while Ind$(\mathcal{M})$ as a subcategory of $\frac{Mod\mathcal{M}}{Eff(\mathcal{M})}$, satisfies all properties of a $d$-cluster tilting subcategory except $d$-rigidity, it falls short of being a $d$-cluster tilting category. For a $d$-cluster tilting subcategory $\mathfrak{M}$ of mod$A$, $\overrightarrow{\mathfrak{M}}$, consists of all filtered colimits of objects from $\mathfrak{M}$, is a generating-cogenerating, functorially finite subcategory of Mod$A$. The question of whether $\mathfrak{M}$ is a $d$-rigid subcategory remains unanswered. However, if it is indeed $d$-rigid, it qualifies as a $d$-cluster tilting subcategory. In the case $d=2$, employing cotorsion theory, we establish that $\overrightarrow{\mathfrak{M}}$ is a $2$-cluster tilting subcategory if and only if $\mathfrak{M}$ is of finite type. Thus, the question regarding whether $\overrightarrow{\mathfrak{M}}$ is a $d$-cluster tilting subcategory of Mod$ A$ appears to be equivalent to the Iyama's qestion about the finiteness of $\mathfrak{M}$.

From Morphism Categories to Functor Categories

Abstract:For a nice-enough category $\mathcal{C}$, we construct both the morphism category ${\rm H}(\mathcal{C})$ of $\mathcal{C}$ and the category ${\rm mod}\mbox{-}\mathcal{C}$ of all finitely presented contravariant additive functors over $\mathcal{C}$ with values in Abelian groups. The main theme of this paper, is to translate some representation-theoretic attributes back and forth from one category to the other. This process is done by using an appropriate functor between these two categories, an approach which seems quite promising in particular when we show that many of almost split sequences are preserved by this functor. We apply our results to the case of wide subcategories of module categories to obtain certain auto-equivalences over them. Another part of the paper deals with Auslander algebras arising from algebras of finite representation type. In fact, we apply our results to study the Auslander-Reiten translates of simple modules over such algebras. In the last parts, we try to recognize particular components in the stable Auslander-Reiten quiver of Auslander algebras arising from self-injective algebras of finite representation type.

An Infinitary Model of Diagrammatic Calculus in Unbiased Monoidal Categories

Abstract:Properties of morphisms represented by so-called 'string diagrams' of monoidal categories (and their braided and symmetric derivatives), mainly their resistance in value to isotopic deformation, have made the usage of graphical calculi commonplace in category theory ever since the correspondence between diagrams and tensor categories was rigorously established by Joyal and Street in 1991. However, we find it important to make certain additions to the existing theory of monoidal categories and their diagrams, with the goal of extending to so-called 'infinitary monoidal categories'. Most crucially, we employ a structure inherently resistant to isotopic deformation, thus replacing topological details with categorical ones. In the process, we coherently introduce infinitary tensor product and transfinite composition into the diagrammatic formalism.

On local fibrations of $(\infty,2)$-categories

Abstract:In this work we provide a model-independent notion of local fibrations of $(\infty,2)$-categories which generalises the well-known theory of locally coCartesian fibrations of $(\infty,1)$-categories. Based on previous work, we construct a model category which serves as a specific combinatorial model for this type of fibrations. Our main result is a generalisation of the locally coCartesian straightening and unstraightening construction of Lurie, which yields for any scaled simplicial set $S$ an equivalence of $(\infty,2)$-categories between the $(\infty,2)$-category of $(0,1)$-fibrations over $S$ (also known as inner coCartesian fibrations) and the $(\infty,2)$-category of functors $S \to \mathbb{C}\!\operatorname{at}_{(\infty,2)}$ with values in $(\infty,2)$-categories. Given an $(\infty,2)$-category $\mathbb{B}$, our Grothendieck construction can be specialised to produce an equivalence between the $(\infty,2)$-category of local fibrations over $\mathbb{B}$ and the $(\infty,2)$-category of oplax unital functors with values in $\mathbb{C}\!\operatorname{at}_{(\infty,2)}$. Finally, as an application of our results we provide a version of the Yoneda lemma for $(\infty,2)$-categories.

R*-categories: The Hilbert-space analogue of abelian categories

Abstract:This article introduces R*-categories: an abstraction of categories exhibiting the "algebraic" aspects of the theory of Hilbert spaces. Notably, finite biproducts in R*-categories can be orthogonalised using the Gram-Schmidt process, and generalised notions of positivity and contraction support a variant of Sz.-Nagy's unitary dilation theorem. Underpinning these generalisations is the structure of an involutive identity-on-objects contravariant endofunctor, which encodes adjoints of morphisms. The R*-category axioms are otherwise inspired by those for abelian categories, comprising a few simple properties of products and kernels. Additivity is not assumed, but nevertheless follows. In fact, the similarity with abelian categories runs deeper: R*-categories are quasi-abelian and thus homological. Examples include the categories of finite-dimensional inner product modules over a partially ordered division ring, and the categories of self-dual Hilbert modules over a W*-algebra.

Abstract:We introduce and study relatively divisible and relatively flat objects in exact categories in the sense of Quillen. For every relative cotorsion pair $(\mathcal{A},\mathcal{B})$ in an exact category $\mathcal{C}$, $\mathcal{A}$ coincides with the class of relatively flat objects of $\mathcal{C}$ for some relative projectively generated exact structure, while $\mathcal{B}$ coincides with the class of relatively divisible objects of $\mathcal{C}$ for some relative injectively generated exact structure. We exhibit Galois connections between relative cotorsion pairs, relative projectively generated exact structures and relative injectively generated exact structures in additive categories. We establish closure properties and characterizations in terms of approximation theory.
