Abstract:In this article we investigate the primeness of generalized wreath product II$_1$ factors using deformation/rigidity theory techniques. We give general conditions relating tensor decompositions of generalized wreath products to stabilizers of the associated group action and use this to find new examples of prime II$_1$ factors.

Abstract:We consider II$_1$ factors of the form $M=\bar{\bigotimes}_{G}N\rtimes G$, where either i) $N$ is a non-hyperfinite II$_1$ factor and $G$ is an ICC amenable group or ii) $N$ is a weakly rigid II$_1$ factor and $G$ is ICC group and where $G$ acts on $\bar{\bigotimes}_{G}N$ by Bernoulli shifts. We prove that isomorphism of two such factors implies cocycle conjugacy of the corresponding Bernoulli shift actions. In particular, the groups acting are isomorphic. As a consequence, we can distinguish between certain classes of group von Neumann algebras associated to wreath product groups.

Abstract:We introduce a new class of groups called wreath-like products. These groups are close relatives of the classical wreath products and arise naturally in the context of group theoretic Dehn filling. Unlike ordinary wreath products, many wreath-like products have Kazhdan's property (T). In this paper, we prove that any group $G$ in a natural family of wreath-like products with property (T) is W$^*$-superrigid: the group von Neumann algebra $\text{L}(G)$ remembers the isomorphism class of $G$. This allows us to provide the first examples (in fact, $2^{\aleph_0}$ pairwise non-isomorphic examples) of W$^*$-superrigid groups with property (T).

Abstract:Garsia and Gessel constructed innovative bijections to obtain multivariate generating functions of permutation statistics. In 2011, Biaogioli and Zeng successfully derived four and six variate distributions on the set of wreath product. In this paper, we will generalize the four variate identities from BZ to any positive dominant ordering. And we will simplify the six variate distribution function under the ordering originally defined by Adin and Roichman in 2001.

On the Springer correspondence for wreath products

Abstract:We first show that the wreath product $\Sigma_m\wr \Sigma_d$ between two symmetric groups appears as the generalized Weyl group of an Iwahori's generalized Tits system. We then introduce a certain subvariety of the flag variety of type A, and then give a geometric proof of its Bruhat decomposition indexed by $\Sigma_m\wr \Sigma_d$, via the Bialynicki-Birula decomposition. Furthermore, we realize the group algebra $\mathbb{Q}[\Sigma_m\wr \Sigma_d]$ as the top Borel-Moore homology of a Steinberg variety. Such a geometric realization leads to a Springer correspondence for the irreducible representations over $\mathbb{C}[\Sigma_m\wr \Sigma_d]$, which can be regarded as a counterpart of the Clifford theory for wreath products. Consequently, we have obtained a new Springer correspondence of type B/C/D using essentially type A geometry.

Rigid Graph Products

Abstract:We prove rigidity properties for von Neumann algebraic graph products. We introduce the notion of rigid graphs and define a class of II$_1$-factors named $\mathcal{C}_{\rm Rigid}$. For von Neumann algebras in this class we show a unique rigid graph product decomposition. In particular, we obtain unique prime factorization results and unique free product decomposition results for new classes of von Neumann algebras. Furthermore, we show that for many graph products of II$_1$-factors, including the hyperfinite II$_1$-factor, we can, up to a constant 2, retrieve the radius of the graph from the graph product. We also prove several technical results concerning relative amenability and embeddings of (quasi)-normalizers in graph products. Furthermore, we give sufficient conditions for a graph product to be nuclear and characterize strong solidity, primeness and free-indecomposability for graph products.

For any field k , G acts naturally on the rational function field k ( x 1 , … , x 6 ) via k -automorphisms defined by σ ⋅ x i = x σ ( i ) for any σ ∈ G and any 1 ≤ i ≤ 6 . We prove the following theorem. The fixed field k ( x 1 , … , x 6 ) G is rational (i.e., purely transcendental) over k , except possibly when G is isomorphic to PSL 2 ( F 5 ) , PGL 2 ( F 5 ) , or A 6 . When G is isomorphic to PSL 2 ( F 5 ) or PGL 2 ( F 5 ) , then C ( x 1 , … , x 6 ) G is C -rational and k ( x 1 , … , x 6 ) G is stably k -rational for any field k . The invariant theory of wreath products will be investigated also.

Abstract:A Wolstenholme prime is a prime number $p \geq 5$ that divides the numerator of the Bernoulli number $B_{p-3}$. A number of equivalent definitions for Wolstenholme primes are known, mostly related to congruences of harmonic sums or binomial coefficients. In this paper, we introduce an equivalent definition of Wolstelholme primes related the number of terms in the group determinant of cyclic groups, and equivalently, the cardinality of certain sets of restricted partitions.

Abstract:In this note we observe that any compact quantum group monoidally equivalent, in a nice way, to a free wreath product of a compact quantum group $G$ by the quantum automorphism group of a finite dimensional C*-algebra with a $\delta$-form is actually isomorphic to a free wreath product of $G$ by the quantum automorphism group of another finite dimensional C*-algebra with a $\delta$-form.

Abstract:We study the effects of subgroup distortion in the wreath products A wr Z, where A is finitely generated abelian. We show that every finitely generated subgroup of A wr Z has distortion function equivalent to some polynomial. Moreover, for A infinite, and for any polynomial l^k, there is a 2-generated subgroup of A wr Z having distortion function equivalent to the given polynomial. Also a formula for the length of elements in arbitrary wreath product H wr G easily shows that the group Z_2 wr Z^2 has distorted subgroups, while the lamplighter group Z_2 wr Z has no distorted (finitely generated) subgroups.

Quantifying conjugacy separability in wreath products of groups

Abstract:We study generalisations of conjugacy separability in restricted wreath products of groups. We provide an effective upper bound for $\mathcal{C}$-conjugacy separability of a wreath product $A \wr B$ in terms of the $\mathcal{C}$-conjugacy separability of $A$ and $B$, the growth of $\mathcal{C}$-cyclic subgroup separability of $B$, and the $\mathcal{C}$-residual girth of $B.$ As an application, we provide a characterisation of when $A \wr B$ is $p$-conjugacy separable. We use this characterisation to the provide for each prime $p$ an example of wreath products with infinite base group that are $p$-conjugacy separable. We also provide asymptotic upper bounds for conjugacy separability for wreath products of nilpotent groups which include the lamplighter groups and provide asymptotic upper bounds for conjugacy separability of the free metabelian groups. Along the way, we provide a polynomial upper bound for the shortest conjugator between two elements of length at most $n$ in a finitely generated nilpotent group.

Abstract:In this paper the authors introduce a new notion called the quantum wreath product, which is the algebra $B \wr_Q \mathcal{H}(d)$ produced from a given algebra $B$, a positive integer $d$, and a choice $Q=(R,S,\rho,\sigma)$ of parameters. Important examples {that arise from our construction} include many variants of the Hecke algebras, such as the Ariki-Koike algebras, the affine Hecke algebras and their degenerate version, Wan-Wang's wreath Hecke algebras, Rosso-Savage's (affine) Frobenius Hecke algebras, Kleshchev-Muth's affine zigzag algebras, and the Hu algebra that quantizes the wreath product $\Sigma_m \wr \Sigma_2$ between symmetric groups. In the first part of the paper, the authors develop a structure theory for the quantum wreath products. Necessary and sufficient conditions for these algebras to afford a basis of suitable size are obtained. Furthermore, a Schur-Weyl duality is established via a splitting lemma and mild assumptions on the base algebra $B$. Our uniform approach encompasses many known results which were proved in a case by case manner. The second part of the paper involves the problem of constructing natural subalgebras of Hecke algebras that arise from wreath products. Moreover, a bar-invariant basis of the Hu algebra via an explicit formula for its extra generator is also described.

Abstract:Every word $w$ in $F_r$, the free group of rank $r$, induces a probability measure (the $w$-measure) on every finite group $G$, by substitution of random $G$-elements in the letters. This measure is determined by its Fourier coefficients: the $w$-expectations $E_w[\chi]$ of the irreducible characters of $G$. For every finite group $G$, every stable character $\chi$ of $G\wr S_n$ (trace of a finitely generated $FI_G$-module), and every word $w\in F_r$, we approximate $E_w[\chi]$ up to an error term of $O(n^{-\pi(w)})$, where $\pi(w)$ is the primitivity rank of $w$. This generalizes previous works by Puder, Hanany, Magee and the author. As an application we show that random Schreier graphs of representation-stable actions of $G\wr S_n$ are close-to-optimal expanders. The paper reveals a surprising relation between stable representation theory of wreath products and not-necessarily connected Stallings core graphs.

Transitivity in wreath products with symmetric groups

Abstract:It is known that the notion of a transitive subgroup of a permutation group $P$ extends naturally to the subsets of $P$. We study transitive subsets of the wreath product $G \wr S_n$, where $G$ is a finite abelian group. This includes the hyperoctahedral group for $G=C_2$. We give structural characterisations of transitive subsets using the character theory of $G \wr S_n$ and interpret such subsets as designs in the conjugacy class association scheme of $G \wr S_n$. In particular, we prove a generalisation of the Livingstone-Wagner theorem and give explicit constructions of transitive sets. Moreover, we establish connections to orthogonal polynomials, namely the Charlier polynomials, and use them to study codes and designs in $C_r \wr S_n$. Many of our results extend results about the symmetric group $S_n$.

Abstract:Inspired by the definition of generalized wreath product of permutation groups, we define the generalized wreath product of graphs, containing the classical Cartesian and wreath product of graphs as particular cases. We prove that the generalized wreath product of Cayley graphs of finite groups is the Cayley graph of the generalized wreath product of the corresponding groups.

Abstract:We define wreath products of cocommutative Hopf algebras, and show that they enjoy a universal property of classifying cleft extensions, analogous to the Kaloujnine-Krasner theorem for groups. We show that the group ring of a wreath product of groups is the wreath product of their group rings, and that (with a natural definition of wreath products of Lie algebras) the universal enveloping algebra of a wreath product of Lie algebras is the wreath product of their enveloping algebras. We recover the aforementioned result that group extensions may be classified as certain subgroups of a wreath product, and that Lie algebra extensions may also be classified as certain subalgebras of a wreath product.

Abstract:We survey solvability of equations in wreath products of groups, and prove that the quadratic diophantine problem is solvable in wreath products of Abelian groups. We consider the related question of determining commutator width, and prove that the quadratic diophantine problem is also solvable in Baumslag's finitely presented metabelian group. This text is a short version of an extensive article by the first-named authors.

On the quasi-isometric classification of permutational wreath products

Abstract:In this article, we initiate the study of the large-scale geometry of permutational wreath products of the form $F\wr_{H/N}H$, where $H$ is finitely presented and where $N$ is a normal subgroup of $H$ satisfying a certain assumption of non coarse separation. The main result is a complete classification of such permutational wreath products up to quasi-isometry, building up on previous works from Genevois and Tessera. For instance, we show that $\mathbb{Z}_{n}\wr_{\mathbb{Z}^{k}} \mathbb{Z}^d$ and $\mathbb{Z}_{m}\wr_{\mathbb{Z}^{k}}\mathbb{Z}^d$, where $d\ge k\ge 2$, are quasi-isometric if and only if $n$ and $m$ are powers of a common number. We also discuss biLipschitz equivalences between permutational wreath products, their scaling groups, as well as the quasi-isometric classification of other halo products built out of such permutational lamplighters.

Abstract:We decompose into irreducible factors the ${\rm SU}(2)$ Witten-Reshetikhin-Turaev representations of the mapping class group of a genus $2$ surface when the level is $p=4r$ and $p=2r^2$ with $r$ an odd prime and when $p=2r_1r_2$ with $r_1$, $r_2$ two distinct odd primes. Abstract:Fix natural numbers n⩾1 , t⩾2 and a primitive tth root of unity ω . In previous work with A. Ayyer (J. Alg., 2022), we studied the factorization of specialized irreducible characters of GLtn , SO2tn+1 , Sp2tn and O2tn evaluated at elements to ωjxi for 0⩽j⩽t−1 and 1⩽i⩽n . In this work, we extend the results to the groups GLtn+m (0⩽m⩽t−1) , SO2tn+3 , Sp2tn+2 and O2tn+2 evaluated at similar specializations: (1) for the GLtn+m case, we set the first tn elements to ωjxi for 0⩽j⩽t−1 and 1⩽i⩽n and the remaining m to y,ωy,...,ωm−1y ; (2) for the other three families, the same specializations but with m=1 . The main results of this paper are a characterization of partitions for which these characters vanish and a factorization of nonzero characters into those of smaller classical groups. Our motivation is the conjectures of Wagh and Prasad (Manuscripta Math., 2020) relating the irreducible representations of Spin2n+1 and SL2n , SL2n+1 and Sp2n as well as Spin2n+2 and Sp2n . Our proofs use the Weyl character formulas and the beta-sets of t -core partitions. Lastly, we give a bijection to prove that there infinitely many t -core partitions for which these characters are nonzero.
