Abstract:Motivated by the M-diagrams defined by Tymoczko, we show that these locally non-crossing $\mathfrak{sl}_3$-webs form a basis of the Specht module for the partition $(n,n,n)$. They further admit a unitriangular base change to both the polytabloid basis and the non-elliptic web basis.

Abstract:Recently Freed and Hopkins [11] proved that there is no parity anomaly in M-theory on pin(+) manifolds in the low-energy field theory approximation, and they also developed an algebraic theory of cubic forms. Earlier Witten [33] proved the anomaly cancellation for spin manifolds by introducing the E-8-bundle technique. Motivated by the cubic forms and the anomaly cancellation formulas of Witten-Freed-Hopkins, we give some new cubic forms on spin, spinc(e), spin(omega 2) and orientable 12-manifolds respectively. We relate them to eta-invariants when the manifolds are with boundary, and mod 2 indices on 10 dimensional characteristic submanifolds when the manifolds are spinc or spin(omega 2). Our method of producing these cubic forms is a combination of (generalized) Witten classes and the character of the basic representation of affine E-8. (C) 2021 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
Rotation invariant webs for three row flamingo Specht modules

Abstract:We introduce a new rotation-invariant web basis for a family of Specht modules $S^{(d^3, 1^{n-3d})}$, indexed by normal plabic graphs satisfying a degree condition and resembling $A_2$ webs. We show that the $\mathfrak{S}_n$ action on our basis can be understood combinatorially via a set of skein relations. From this basis, we obtain a cyclic sieving result for a $q$-analog of the hook length formula for $\lambda$. Our construction extends the jellyfish invariants of Fraser, Patrias, Pechenik, and Striker and is closely related to the weblike subgraphs of Lam.

Web invariants for flamingo Specht modules

Abstract:Webs yield an especially important realization of certain Specht modules, irreducible representations of symmetric groups, as they provide a pictorial basis with a convenient diagrammatic calculus. In recent work, the last three authors associated polynomials to noncrossing partitions without singleton blocks, so that the corresponding polynomials form a web basis of the pennant Specht module $S^{(d,d,1^{n-2d})}$. These polynomials were interpreted as global sections of a line bundle on a 2-step partial flag variety. Here, we both simplify and extend this construction. On the one hand, we show that these polynomials can alternatively be situated in the homogeneous coordinate ring of a Grassmannian, instead of a 2-step partial flag variety, and can be realized as tensor invariants of classical (but highly nonplanar) tensor diagrams. On the other hand, we extend these ideas from the pennant Specht module $S^{(d,d,1^{n-2d})}$ to more general flamingo Specht modules $S^{(d^r,1^{n-rd})}$. In the hook case $r=1$, we obtain a spanning set that can be restricted to a basis in various ways. In the case $r>2$, we obtain a basis of a well-behaved subspace of $S^{(d^r,1^{n-rd})}$, but not of the entire module.

A new presentation for Specht modules with distinct parts

Abstract:We obtain a new presentation for Specht modules whose conjugate shapes have strictly decreasing parts by introducing a linear operator on the space generated by column tabloids. The generators of the presentation are column tabloids and the relations form a proper subset of the Garnir relations of Fulton. The results in this paper extend earlier results of the authors and Stanley on Specht modules of staircase shape.

Abstract:The sl_3 spider is a diagrammatic category used to study the representation theory of the quantum group U_q(sl_3). The morphisms in this category are generated by a basis of non-elliptic webs. Khovanov- Kuperberg observed that non-elliptic webs are indexed by semistandard Young tableaux. They establish this bijection via a recursive growth algorithm. Recently, Tymoczko gave a simple version of this bijection in the case that the tableaux are standard and used it to study rotation and joins of webs. We build on Tymoczko's bijection to give a simple and explicit algorithm for constructing all non-elliptic sl_3 webs.
Moduli Space Tilings and Lie-Theoretic Color Factors

Abstract:A detailed understanding of the moduli spaces $X(k,n)$ of $n$ points in projective $k-1$ space is essential to the investigation of generalized biadjoint scalar amplitudes, as discovered by Cachazo, Early, Guevara and Mizera (CEGM) in 2019. But in math, conventional wisdom says that it is completely hopeless due to the arbitrarily high complexity of realization spaces of oriented matroids. In this paper, we nonetheless find a path forward. We present a Lie-theoretic realization of color factors for color-dressed generalized biadjoint scalar amplitudes, formulated in terms of certain tilings of the real moduli space $X(k,n)$ and collections of logarithmic differential forms, resolving an important open question from recent work by Cachazo, Early and Zhang. The main idea is to replace the realization space decomposition of $X(k,n)$ with a large class of overlapping tilings whose topologies are individually relatively simple. So we obtain a collection of color-dressed amplitudes, each of which satisfies $U(1)$ decoupling separately. The essential complexity appears when they are all superposed.

Abstract:Using combinatorial properties of symmetric polynomials, we compute explicitly the Soergel modules for some permutations whose corresponding Schubert varieties are rationally smooth. We build from them diagram algebras whose module categories are equivalent to the subquotient categories of the BGG category $\mathcal{O}(\mathfrak{gl}_n)$ which show up in categorification of $\mathfrak{gl}(1|1)$-representations. We construct diagrammatically the graded cellular structure and the properly stratified structure of these algebras.

Abstract:Reflection states are introduced in the vertical and horizontal modules of the Ding-Iohara-Miki (DIM) algebra (quantum toroidal gl1\documentclass[12pt]{minimal}\usepackage{amsmath}\usepackage{wasysym}\usepackage{amsfonts}\usepackage{amssymb}\usepackage{amsbsy}\usepackage{mathrsfs}\usepackage{upgreek}\setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt}\begin{document}$$ \mathfrak{g}{\mathfrak{l}}_1 $$\end{document}). Webs of DIM representations are in correspondence with (p, q)-web diagrams of type IIB string theory, under the identification of the algebraic intertwiner of Awata, Feigin and Shiraishi with the refined topological vertex. Extending the correspondence to the vertical reflection states, it is possible to engineer the N=1\documentclass[12pt]{minimal}\usepackage{amsmath}\usepackage{wasysym}\usepackage{amsfonts}\usepackage{amssymb}\usepackage{amsbsy}\usepackage{mathrsfs}\usepackage{upgreek}\setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt}\begin{document}$$ \mathcal{N}=1 $$\end{document} quiver gauge theory of D-type (with unitary gauge groups). In this way, the Nekrasov instanton partition function is reproduced from the evaluation of expectation values of intertwiners. This computation leads to the identification of the vertical reflection state with the orientifold plane of string theory. We also provide a translation of this construction in the Iqbal-Kozcaz-Vafa refined topological vertex formalism.

Weight Diagrams of $gl(m|n)$ Modules

Abstract:Many properties of simple finite dimensional gl(m|n)-modules may be better understood by assigning weight diagrams to the highest weights with respect to a given base of simple roots. In this paper we consider bases that are compatible with the standard Borel subalgebra in $gl(m|n)_0 = gl(m) \times gl(n)$; namely, the bases that differ from the distinguished base $\Sigma^{dist}$ of simple roots by a sequence of odd reflections. We examine the weight diagrams that arise from the highest weights of a simple module $L(\lambda)$ with respect to such bases. Further, we provide combinatorial tools to describe all the weight diagrams of highest weights of $L(\lambda)$ provided only with the the weight diagram of $L(\lambda)$ with respect to distinguished highest weight $\lambda$. Finally, we study the maximal cardinality of incomparable sets of positive odd roots with respect to $\Sigma^{dist}$ which are orthogonal to some highest weight of $L(\lambda)$ with respect to a base as above. We provide explicit formulas for this value, connecting it to the combinatorics of the weight diagrams. Based on this study, we respond to the work of M. Gorelik and Th. Heidersdorf, providing a counterexample to their Tail Conjecture.

Higher Specht bases and $q$-series for the cohomology rings of certain Hessenberg varieties

Abstract:It is conjectured (following the Stanley-Stembridge conjecture) that the cohomology rings of regular semisimple Hessenberg varieties yield permutation representations, but the decompositions of the modules are only known in some cases. For the Hessenberg function $h=(h(1),n,\ldots,n)$, the structure of the cohomology ring was determined by Abe, Horiguchi, and Masuda in 2017. We define two new bases for this cohomology ring, one of which is a higher Specht basis, and the other of which is a permutation basis. We also examine the transpose Hessenberg variety, indexed by the Hessenberg function $h' = ((n-1)^{n-m},n^m)$, and show that analogous results hold. Further, we give combinatorial bijections between the monomials in the new basis and sets of $P$-tableaux, motivated by the work of Gasharov, illustrating the connections between the $\mathfrak{S}_n$ action on these cohomology rings and the Schur expansion of chromatic symmetric functions.

On the Gram determinants of the Specht modules

Abstract:For every partition $\lambda$ of a positive integer $n$, let $S^{\lambda}$ be the corresponding Specht module of the symmetric group $\mathfrak{S}_n$, and let $\det(\lambda)\in \mathbb Z$ denote the Gram determinant of the canonical bilinear form with respect to the standard basis of $S^{\lambda}$. Writing $\det(\lambda)=m \cdot 2^{a_{\lambda}^{(2)}}$ for integers $a_{\lambda}^{(2)}$ and $m$ with $m$ odd, we show that if the dimension of $S^{\lambda}$ is even, then $a_{\lambda}^{(2)}$ is also even. This confirms a conjecture posed by Richard Parker in the special case of the symmetric groups.

Abstract:BPS states in type II string compactified on a Calabi-Yau threefold can typically be decomposed as moduli-dependent bound states of absolutely stable constituents, with a hierarchical structure labelled by attractor flow trees. This decomposition is best understood from the scattering diagram, an arrangement of real codimension-one loci (or rays) in the space of stability conditions where BPS states of given electromagnetic charge and fixed phase of the central charge exist. The consistency of the diagram when rays intersect determines all BPS indices in terms of the `attractor indices' carried by the initial rays. In this work we study the scattering diagram for a non-compact toric CY threefold known as local $\mathbb{F}_0$, namely the total space of the canonical bundle over $\mathbb{P}^1\times \mathbb{P}^1$. We first construct the scattering diagram for the quiver, valid near the orbifold point, and for the large volume slice, valid when both $\mathbb{P}^1$'s have large (and nearly equal) area. We then combine the insights gained from these simple limits to construct the scattering diagram along the physical slice of $\Pi$-stability conditions, which carries an action of a $\mathbb{Z}^4$ extension of the modular group $\Gamma_0(4)$. We sketch a proof of the Split Attractor Flow Tree Conjecture in this example, albeit for a restricted range of the central charge phase. Most arguments are similar to our early study of local $\mathbb{P}^2$ [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2210.10712" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2210.10712">arXiv:2210.10712</a>], but complicated by the occurence of an extra mass parameter and ramification points on the $\Pi$-stability slice.

Abstract:We develop a theory of stated SL(n)-skein modules, $S_n(M,N),$ of 3-manifolds $M$ marked with intervals $N$ in their boundaries. They consist of linear combinations of $n$-webs with ends in $N$, considered up to skein relations inspired by the relations of the Reshetikhin-Turaev theory. We prove that cutting $M$ along a disk resulting in a $3$-manifold $M'$ yields a homomorphism $S_n(M)\to S_n(M')$. That result allows to analyze the skein modules of $3$-manifolds through the skein modules of their pieces. The theory of stated skein modules is particularly rich for thickened surfaces $M=\Sigma \times (-1,1),$ in whose case, $S_n(M)$ is an algebra, denoted by $S_n(\Sigma).$ We prove that the skein algebra of the ideal bigon is $O_q(SL(n))$ and that it provides simple geometric interpretations of the product, coproduct, counit, the antipode, and the cobraided structure on $O_q(SL(n)).$ Additionally, we show that a splitting of a thickened bigon near a marking defines a $O_q(SL(n))$-comodule structure on $S_n(M),$ or dually, an $U_q(sl_n)$-module structure. Furthermore, we show that the skein algebra of surfaces $\Sigma_1, \Sigma_2$ glued along two sides of a triangle is isomorphic with the braided tensor product $S_n(\Sigma_1)\underline{\otimes} S_n(\Sigma_2)$ of Majid. These results allow for a geometric interpretation of further concepts in the theory of quantum groups, for example, of the braided products and of Majid's transmutation operation. We prove that the factorization homology of surfaces with coefficients in $Rep\, U_q(sl_n)$ is equivalent to the category of left modules over $S_n(\Sigma)$. We also discuss the relation with the quantum moduli spaces of Alekseev-Schomerus. Finally, we show that for surfaces $\Sigma$ with boundary, $S_n(\Sigma)$ is a free module with a basis induced from the Kashiwara-Lusztig canonical bases.

Abstract:We define $2n$-multiwebs on planar graphs and discuss their relation with $\mathrm{Sp}(2n)$-webs. On a planar graph with a symplectic local system we define a matrix whose Pfaffian is the sum of traces of $2n$-multiwebs. As application we generalize Kasteleyn's theorem from dimer covers to $2n$-multiweb covers of planar graphs with $U(n)$ gauge group. For $\mathrm{Sp}(4)$ we relate Kuperberg's ``tetravalent vertex'' to the determinant, and classify reduced $4$-webs on some simple surfaces: the annulus, torus, and pair of pants. We likewise define, for $\mathrm{Sp}(2n)$ and $q=1$, a $2n$-valent vertex corresponding to the determinant, and classify reduced $2n$-webs on an annulus.

Abstract:We develop a theory of stated SL(n )‐skein modules, Sn(M,N) , of 3‐manifolds M marked with intervals N in their boundaries. We prove the Splitting Theorem asserting that cutting of a marked 3‐manifold M along a disk resulting in a 3‐manifold M′ yields a homomorphism Sn(M)→Sn(M′) for all n . That result allows to analyze the skein modules of 3‐manifolds through the skein modules of their pieces. The theory of stated skein modules is particularly rich for thickened surfaces M=Σ×(−1,1) , in whose case, Sn(M) is an algebra, denoted by Sn(Σ) . One of the main results of this paper asserts that the skein algebra of the ideal bigon is isomorphic with Oq(SL(n)) and it provides simple geometric interpretations of the product, coproduct, counit, the antipode, and the cobraided structure on Oq(SL(n)) . Abstract:We study the dimer model for a planar bipartite graph N embedded in a disk, with boundary vertices on the boundary of the disk. Counting dimer configurations with specified boundary conditions gives a point in the totally non‐negative Grassmannian. Considering pairing probabilities for the double‐dimer model gives rise to Grassmann analogs of Rhoades and Skandera's Temperley–Lieb immanants. The same problem for the (probably novel) triple‐dimer model gives rise to the combinatorics of Kuperberg's webs and Grassmann analogs of Pylyavskyy's web immanants. This draws a connection between the square move of plabic graphs (or urban renewal of planar bipartite graphs), and Kuperberg's square reduction of webs. Our results also suggest that canonical‐like bases might be applied to the dimer model. We furthermore show that these functions on the Grassmannian are compatible with restriction to positroid varieties. Namely, our construction gives bases for the degree 2 and degree 3 components of the homogeneous coordinate ring of a positroid variety that are compatible with the cyclic group action.

Abstract:Goussarov-Habiro's theory of clasper surgeries defines a filtration of the monoid of string links $L(m)$ on $m$ strands, in a way that geometrically realizes the Feynman diagrams appearing in low-dimensional and quantum topology. Concretely, $L(m)$ is filtered by $C_n$-equivalence, for $n\geq 1$, which is defined via local moves that can be seen as higher crossing changes. The graded object associated to the Goussarov-Habiro filtration is the Goussarov-Habiro Lie algebra of string links $\mathcal{L} L(m)$. We give a concrete presentation, in terms of primitive Feynman (tree) diagrams and relations ($\text{1T}$, $\text{AS}$, $\text{IHX}$, $\text{STU}^2$), of the rational Goussarov-Habiro Lie algebra $\mathcal{L} L(m)_{\mathbb{Q}}$. To that end, we investigate cycles in graphs of forests: flip graphs associated to forest diagrams and their $\text{STU}$ relations. As an application, we give an alternative diagrammatic proof of Massuyeau's rational version of the Goussarov-Habiro conjecture for string links, which relates indistinguishability under finite type invariants of degree $<n$ and $C_n$-equivalence.

Moduli of Nodal Sextic Curves via Periods of K3 Surfaces

Abstract:In this paper we study the moduli spaces of nodal sextic curves. We realize each irreducible component of the GIT space of sextic curves with given number of nodes as an open subspace of type IV arithmetic quotients. We then focus on the compactifications of the moduli spaces, one side is the geometric (GIT) compactifications, the other side is the Hodge theoretic compactifications such as Looijenga compactifications and Baily--Borel compactifications. The main result is the isomorphism between GIT and Looijenga compactifications. Some examples are closely related to del Pezzo surfaces. We also extend our results to moduli of nodal sextic curves with specified symmetry.

Web bases in degree two from hourglass plabic graphs

Abstract:Webs give a diagrammatic calculus for spaces of $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_r)$-tensor invariants, but intrinsic characterizations of web bases are only known in certain cases. Recently, we introduced hourglass plabic graphs to give the first such $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_4)$-web bases. Separately, Fraser introduced a web basis for Pl\"{u}cker degree two representations of arbitrary $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_r)$. Here, we show that Fraser's basis agrees with that predicted by the hourglass plabic graph framework and give an intrinsic characterization of the resulting webs. A further compelling feature with many applications is that our bases exhibit rotation-invariance. Together with the results of our earlier paper, this implies that hourglass plabic graphs give a uniform description of all known rotation-invariant $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_r)$-web bases. Moreover, this provides a single combinatorial model simultaneously generalizing the Tamari lattice, the alternating sign matrix lattice, and the lattice of plane partitions. As a part of our argument, we develop properties of square faces in arbitrary hourglass plabic graphs, a key step in our program towards general $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_r)$-web bases.
