Abstract:In this paper, we prove a version of the universality theorem for the Hurwitz zeta-function in the case where the parameter is algebraic and irrational. Then we apply the result to show that many of such Hurwitz zeta-functions have infinitely many zeros in the right half of the critical strip.

Abstract:In this paper, we present results on the uniqueness of the real zeros of the Hurwitz zeta function in given intervals. The uniqueness in question, if the zeros exist, has already been proved for the intervals $(0,1)$ and $(-N, -N+1)$ for $N \geq 5$ by Endo-Suzuki and Matsusaka respectively. We prove the uniqueness of the real zeros in the remaining intervals by examining the behavior of certain associated polynomials.

Abstract:Recently, we have applied the generalized Littlewood theorem concerning contour integrals of the logarithm of the analytical function to find the sums over inverse powers of zeros for the incomplete gamma and Riemann zeta functions, polygamma functions, and elliptical functions. Here, the same theorem is applied to study such sums for the zeros of the Hurwitz zeta function ζ(s,z), including the sum over the inverse first power of its appropriately defined non-trivial zeros. We also study some related properties of the Hurwitz zeta function zeros. In particular, we show that, for any natural N and small real ε, when z tends to n = 0, −1, −2... we can find at least N zeros of ζ(s,z) in the ε neighborhood of 0 for sufficiently small |z+n|, as well as one simple zero tending to 1, etc.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a certain random variable closely related to the value-distribution of the Hurwitz zeta-function with algebraic parameter. We prove a version of the limit theorem, where the limit measure is presented by the law of this random variable. Then we apply it to show that any complex number can be approximated by values of the Hurwitz zeta-function for arbitrary quadratic irrational parameters but with finite exceptions.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a smooth proper curve over a finite field and let $\infty \in X$ be a closed point. Let $A$ be the ring of functions on $X - \infty$. The Goss zeta function $\zeta_A$ of $A$ is an equicharacteristic analogue of the Riemann zeta function. In this article we study the zeros of $\zeta_A$ under the generic condition that $X$ is ordinary. We prove an analogue of the Riemann hypothesis, which verifies a corrected version of a conjecture of Goss. We also show that the zeros of $\zeta_A$ at negative even integers are `simple' and that $\zeta_A$ is nonzero at negative odd integers. This answers questions posed by Goss and Thakur. Both of these results were previously only known under the restrictive hypothesis that $A$ has class number one. Finally, we prove versions of these results for $v$-adic interpolations of the Goss zeta function.

Abstract:In 1979, Gonek presented the hybrid joint universality theorem for Dirichlet $L$-functions and proved the universality theorem for Hurwitz zeta-functions with rational parameter as an application. Following the introduction of the hybrid universality theorem, several generalizations, refinements, and applications have been developed. Despite these advancements, no probabilistic proof based on Bagchi's approach has been formulated due to the complexities of adapting his method to the hybrid joint universality theorem. In this paper, we prove the limit theorem for the hybrid joint universality theorem.

Abstract:We give a conditional lower bound on the number of non-trivial simple zeros for the Dedekind zeta function , where K is a quadratic number field. The conditional result is given by assuming a Lindelöf condition on average (in the sense) for both and , which can be seen as a stronger version of Conrey–Gonek–Ghosh's (Invent Math 86:563–576, 1986) conditional result. This improves upon the work of Wu and Zhao (Mathematika 65:851–861, 2019), who had a similar result.

Abstract: Determination of quasi-invariant generalized functions is important for a variety of problems in representation theory, notably character theory and restriction problems. In this note, we review some new and easy-to-use techniques to show vanishing of quasi-invariant generalized functions, developed in the recent work of the authors (Uniqueness of Ginzburg-Rallis models: the Archimedean case, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 363, (2011), 2763-2802). The first two techniques involve geometric notions attached to submanifolds, which we call metrical properness and unipotent $\chi$-incompatibility. The third one is analytic in nature, and it arises from the first occurrence phenomenon in Howe correspondence. We also highlight how these techniques quickly lead to two well-known uniqueness results, on trilinear forms and Whittaker models.

Abstract:We prove the Voronin universality theorem for the multiple Hurwitz zeta-function with rational or transcendental parameters in $\mathbb{C}^n$ answering a question of Matsumoto. In particular this implies that the Euler-Zagier multiple zeta-function is universal in several complex variables and gives the first example of a Dirichlet series that is universal in more than one variable.

Abstract:We provide a new upper bound for the number of smooth values of a polynomial with integer coefficients. This improves Timofeev's previous result unless the polynomial is a product of linear polynomials with integer coefficients. As an application, we fix an error in the proof of a result of Cassels which was used to prove that the Hurwitz zeta-function with algebraic irrational parameter has infinitely many zeros on the domain of convergence. We also apply the main result to a problem on primitive divisors of quadratic polynomials.

$M$-functions and screw functions originating from Goldbach's problem and zeros of the Riemann zeta function

Abstract:We study the $M$-functions, which describe the limit theorem for the value-distributions of the secondary main terms in the asymptotic formulas for the summatory functions of the Goldbach counting function. One of the new aspects is a sufficient condition for the Riemann hypothesis provided by some formulas of the $M$-functions, which was a necessary condition in previous work. The other new aspect is the relation between the secondary main terms and the screw functions, which provides another necessary and sufficient condition for the Riemann hypothesis. We study such $M$-functions and screw functions in generalized settings by axiomatizing them.

On the Real Zeroes of Half-integral Weight Hecke Cusp Forms

Abstract:We examine the distribution of zeroes of half-integral weight Hecke cusp forms on the manifold $\Gamma_0(4)\backslash\mathbb H$ near a cusp at infinity. In analogue of the Ghosh-Sarnak conjecture for classical holomorphic Hecke cusp forms, one expects that almost all of the zeroes sufficiently close to this cusp lie on two vertical geodesics $\Re(s)=-1/2$ and $\Re(s)=0$ as the weight tends to infinity. We show that, for $\gg_\varepsilon K^2/(\log K)^{3/2+\varepsilon}$ of the half-integral weight Hecke cusp forms in the Kohnen plus subspace with weight bounded by a large constant $K$, the number of such "real" zeroes grows almost at the expected rate. We also obtain a weaker lower bound for the number of real zeroes that holds for a positive proportion of forms. One of the key ingredients is the asymptotic evaluation of averaged first and second moments of quadratic twists of modular $L$-functions.

Abstract:We study the behavior of $r$-fold zeta-functions of Euler-Zagier type with identical arguments $\zeta_r(s,s,\ldots,s)$ on the real line. Our basic tool is an "infinite'' version of Newton's classical identities. We carry out numerical computations, and draw graphs of $\zeta_r(s,s,\ldots,s)$ for real $s$, for several small values of $r$. Those graphs suggest various properties of $\zeta_r(s,s,\ldots,s)$, some of which we prove rigorously. When $s \in [0,1]$, we show that $\zeta_r(s,s,\ldots,s)$ has $r$ asymptotes at $\Re s=1/k$ ($1\leq k\leq r$), and determine the asymptotic behavior of $\zeta_r(s,s,\ldots,s)$ close to those asymptotes. Numerical computations establish the existence of several real zeros for $2\leq r\leq 10$ (in which only the case $r=2$ was previously known). Based on those computations, we raise a conjecture on the number of zeros for general $r$, and gives a formula for calculating the number of zeros. We also consider the behavior of $\zeta_r(s,s,\ldots,s)$ outside the interval $[0,1]$. We prove asymptotic formulas for $\zeta_r(-k,-k,\ldots,-k)$, where $k$ takes odd positive integer values and tends to $+\infty$. Moreover, on the number of real zeros of $\zeta_r(s,s,\ldots,s)$, we prove that there are exactly $(r-1)$ real zeros on the interrval $(-2n,-2(n-1))$ for any $n \geq 2$.
