Abstract:In this paper, we investigate existence and stability of solitary waves to the rotation-Camassa-Holm equation which can be considered as a model in the shallow water for the long-crested waves propagating near the equator with effect of the Coriolis force due to the Earths rotation. We prove existence of solitary waves by performing a phase plane analysis. Moreover, utilizing the approach proposed by Grillakis-Shatah-Strauss, we prove stability of solitary waves.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The paper mainly investigates the existence and stability of solitary waves in the rotation-Camassa-Holm (R-CH) equation. The R-CH equation is a model that describes the propagation of shallow water long waves near the equator under the influence of Earth's rotation, taking into account the Coriolis force. The paper is divided into two parts: 1. Existence: The authors prove the existence of solitary wave solutions in the R-CH equation using phase plane analysis. They first find solitary wave solutions that satisfy specific conditions (relationship between wave speed σ and parameter c) and determine the properties of these solutions by computing the eigenvalues of the system. 2. Stability: The paper further investigates the stability of these solitary waves. Using the method of Grillakis-Shatah-Strauss, the authors prove that solitary waves are orbitally stable when a scalar function d(σ) (defined by two conservation laws E and F) is convex in a neighborhood of the wave speed σ. By analyzing spectral properties and variational derivatives, they conclude that solitary waves in the R-CH equation are stable under certain conditions. In summary, the main contribution of the paper is establishing solitary wave solutions in the R-CH equation considering the effect of Earth's rotation and proving the stability of these solutions in a mathematical sense. This work is of great significance for understanding and simulating the hydrodynamics of water waves on the Earth's surface.
