Abstract:In this work, a modified two-flavor NJL-type model is utilized, in which the contact current-current interaction is Fierz-transformed into quark-antiquark interactions and quark-quark interactions, which are directly related to the chiral condensate and diquark condensate, respectively. Under mean-field approximation, the chiral condensate and the diquark condensate are studied on the same footing. We discuss in detail the competition between the chiral condensate and the diquark condensate, which are exclusively paired with u and d quarks, while also investigating the order of the chiral phase transition through an analysis of the resulting chiral susceptibility.
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is the competitive relationship between chiral condensate and diquark condensate in high - density quark matter and its influence on the nature of phase transitions. Specifically, the researchers use a modified two - flavor NJL - type model to decompose the contact current - current interaction into quark - antiquark interaction and quark - quark interaction through Fierz transformation. These interactions are directly related to chiral condensate and diquark condensate respectively. Under the mean - field approximation, the competitive behavior of chiral condensate and diquark condensate was studied, and the order of chiral phase transition was explored by analyzing chiral susceptibility.
### Research Background
- **Quark Pairing**: In high - density quark matter, quarks can form Cooper pairs like electrons in metals, a phenomenon similar to superconductivity.
- **Color Superconductivity**: At extremely high densities, quark matter can be analyzed by the weak - coupling method, but the pairing gap under strong interactions is much larger than the value predicted by the weak - coupling method.
- **Application Prospects**: Color - superconducting matter not only enriches the QCD phase - diagram structure but may also be of great significance for the study of neutron stars and heavy - ion collisions.
### Research Methods
- **Model Selection**: A modified two - flavor NJL - type model was used, in which the contact current - current interaction was decomposed into quark - antiquark interaction and quark - quark interaction by Fierz transformation.
- **Mean - Field Approximation**: Under the mean - field approximation, chiral condensate and diquark condensate were studied simultaneously.
- **Parameter Adjustment**: By adjusting the parameter \( \alpha \) to change the coupling ratio \( h_1/g_s^{(0)} \) of scalar diquark interaction and scalar quark - antiquark interaction, its influence on chiral phase transition and color - superconducting phase transition was systematically studied.
### Main Findings
- **Chiral Phase Transition**: For different values of \( \alpha \), the nature of the chiral phase transition is different. When \( \alpha \leq 0.4 \), the chiral phase transition is a first - order phase transition; when \( \alpha > 0.5 \), the chiral phase transition changes to a crossover.
- **Diquark Condensate**: The behaviors of scalar diquark gap \( \Delta_1 \) and vector diquark gap \( \Delta_2 \) are also affected by \( \alpha \). A smaller value of \( \alpha \) will lead to a larger diquark condensate, causing \( \Delta_1 \) to increase rapidly to a non - zero value.
- **Phase - Transition Critical Points**: The critical chemical potential \( \mu_\chi \) for the chiral phase transition and the critical chemical potential \( \mu_{\Delta_1} \) for the color - superconducting phase transition were defined, and it was observed that at some values of \( \alpha \), these two critical points appear almost simultaneously.
### Conclusion
Through the modified NJL - type model, the researchers have explored in detail the competitive behavior of chiral condensate and diquark condensate in high - density quark matter and their influence on chiral phase transition and color - superconducting phase transition. The results show that by adjusting the value of \( \alpha \), the nature of the phase transition can be significantly changed, providing a new perspective for understanding the phase diagram of strongly interacting matter.
