Abstract:The association of information with entropy has been argued on plausibility arguments involving the operation of imaginary engines and beings, and it is not a universal theorem. In this paper, a theorem by Charles Bennett on reversible computation is recognized as the much needed theorem. It is proposed a real, non thermal engine, operated by humans. Its operation has stages analogous to the stages in Bennett's reversible three-tape computer. The engine makes possible to prove two results: (1) the engine operates on two laws, similar to the laws of thermodynamics, which are conditions on the possibility of resetting the engine; (2) entropy is the measure of erased information, and is measured in physical units, which complies with Landauer's principle. A prototype at work is shown in video.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem this paper attempts to address is to elevate the relationship between information and entropy from a highly theoretical hypothesis to a universal theorem, and to demonstrate this relationship through an actual un-thermal dynamic engine. Specifically, the author believes that Charles Bennett's theorem on reversible computing can serve as the required universal theorem, thereby proving that in a universal engine, entropy is also a measure of erased information. ### Main Contributions of the Paper: 1. **Proposition of a Universal Theorem**: The author believes that Bennett's theorem can serve as a universal theorem for the relationship between information and entropy, rather than just an argument based on hypotheses and thought experiments. 2. **Design of an Actual Engine**: The author designed and built an actual un-thermal dynamic engine, whose operation process is similar to Bennett's three-tape computer, thereby verifying the relationship between information and entropy. 3. **Physical Unit Measurement of Entropy**: Through this actual engine, the author demonstrated how to measure information using physical units (such as air volume), which aligns with Landauer's principle that information erasure leads to an increase in environmental entropy. ### Core Content of the Paper: - **Introduction**: Reviews the development history of thermodynamic laws, especially the work of Carnot and Clausius, and the discussion on the relationship between information and entropy. - **Design of the Un-thermal Dynamic Engine**: Describes in detail the structure and operation process of the engine, including direct and reverse cycles, and the two main operations: air transfer and useful work generation. - **Proof of Two Laws**: By analogy with the thermodynamic engine, it proves that the un-thermal dynamic engine also follows two similar laws, which are conditional on the restoration of the engine state. - **Specific Form of the Second Law**: Derives the second law of the un-thermal dynamic engine, showing that in the absence of air leakage, the non-destructive nature of air (or the "recoverability" of the air tank) can be expressed through the conservation of entropy. - **Analogy with Maxwell's Demon**: Discusses the thought experiment of Maxwell's Demon and the relationship between information acquisition and entropy increase, further supporting the connection between information and entropy. ### Conclusion: Through the actual un-thermal dynamic engine, the author successfully elevated the relationship between information and entropy from a theoretical hypothesis to the level of a universal theorem, providing a new perspective for understanding the role of information and entropy in universal engines.
