Abstract:Recall that D is a half-factorial domain (HFD) when D is atomic and every equation , with all and irreducible in D , implies . We explain how techniques introduced to attack Artin's primitive root conjecture can be applied to understand half-factoriality of orders in real quadratic number fields. In particular, we prove that (a) there are infinitely many real quadratic orders that are half-factorial domains, and (b) under the generalized Riemann hypothesis, contains infinitely many HFD orders.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{O}$ be an order in an algebraic number field and suppose that the set of distances $\Delta(\mathcal{O})$ of $\mathcal{O}$ is nonempty (equivalently, $\mathcal{O}$ is not half-factorial). If $\mathcal{O}$ is seminormal (in particular, if $\mathcal{O}$ is a principal order), then $\min\Delta(\mathcal{O})=1$. So far, only a few examples of orders were found with $\min\Delta(\mathcal{O})>1$. We say that $\Delta(\mathcal{O})$ is unusual if $\min\Delta(\mathcal{O})>1$. In the present paper, we establish algebraic characterizations of orders $\mathcal{O}$ in real quadratic number fields with $\min\Delta(\mathcal{O})>1$. We also provide a classification of the real quadratic number fields that possess an order whose set of distances is unusual. As a consequence thereof, we revisit certain squarefree integers (cf. OEIS A135735) that were studied by A. J. Stephens and H. C. Williams.

Abstract:For an algebraic number $\alpha$ of degree $n$, let $\mathcal{M}_{\alpha}$ be the $\mathbb{Z}$-module generated by $1,\alpha ,\ldots ,\alpha^{n-1}$; then $\mathbb{Z}_{\alpha}:=\{\xi\in\mathbb{Q} (\alpha ):\, \xi\mathcal{M}_{\alpha}\subseteq\mathcal{M}_{\alpha}\}$ is the ring of scalars of $\mathcal{M}_{\alpha}$. We call an order of the shape $\mathbb{Z}_{\alpha}$ \emph{rationally monogenic}. If $\alpha$ is an algebraic integer, then $\mathbb{Z}_{\alpha}=\mathbb{Z}[\alpha ]$ is monogenic. Rationally monogenic orders are special types of invariant orders of binary forms, which have been studied intensively. If $\alpha ,\beta$ are two $\text{GL}_2(\mathbb{Z})$-equivalent algebraic numbers, i.e., $\beta =(a\alpha +b)/(c\alpha +d)$ for some $\big(\begin{smallmatrix}a&b\\c&d\end{smallmatrix}\big)\in\text{GL}_2(\mathbb{Z})$, then $\mathbb{Z}_{\alpha}=\mathbb{Z}_{\beta}$. Given an order $\mathcal{O}$ of a number field, we call a $\text{GL}_2(\mathbb{Z})$-equivalence class of $\alpha$ with $\mathbb{Z}_{\alpha}=\mathcal{O}$ a \emph{rational monogenization} of $\mathcal{O}$. We prove the following. If $K$ is a quartic number field, then $K$ has only finitely many orders with more than two rational monogenizations. This is best possible. Further, if $K$ is a number field of degree $\geq 5$, the Galois group of whose normal closure is $5$-transitive, then $K$ has only finitely many orders with more than one rational monogenization. The proof uses finiteness results for unit equations, which in turn were derived from Schmidt's Subspace Theorem. We generalize the above results to rationally monogenic orders over rings of $S$-integers of number fields. Our results extend work of Bérczes, Győry and the author from 2013 on multiply monogenic orders.

A characterization of transfer Krull orders in Dedekind domains with torsion class group

Abstract:We establish a characterization (under some natural conditions) of those orders in Dedekind domains which allow a transfer homomorphism to a monoid of zero-sum sequences. As a consequence, the inclusion map to the Dedekind domain is a transfer homomorphism, with the exception of a particular case. The arithmetic of Krull and Dedekind domains is well understood, and the existence of a transfer homomorphism implies that the order and the associated Dedekind domain share the same arithmetic properties. This is not the case for arbitrary orders in Dedekind domains.

Abstract:Abstract For most classical and similitude groups, we show that each element can be written as a product of two transformations that preserve or almost preserve the underlying form and whose squares are certain scalar maps. This generalizes work of Wonenburger and Vinroot. As an application, we re-prove and slightly extend a well-known result of Mœglin, Vignéras, and Waldspurger on the existence of automorphisms of p -adic classical groups that take each irreducible smooth representation to its dual.

The Twisted Doubling Method in Algebraic Families

Abstract:We define the twisted doubling zeta integrals of Cai-Friedberg-Ginzburg-Kaplan in the setting of algebraic families. We then prove a rationality result and a functional equation for these zeta integrals. This allows us to define an unnormalized $\gamma$-factor associated to certain families of representation of a classical group times a general linear group.

Abstract:Let [Formula: see text] be an irreducible polynomial with rational coefficients and Galois group [Formula: see text]. We extend previous results to give an elementary classification of [Formula: see text], identified as a transitive subgroup of [Formula: see text] up to conjugacy. We show [Formula: see text] is one of 12 possibilities and can be determined by considering the squareness of at most 11 rational numbers; each number is an expression involving [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text]. We give several applications of our results.

Abstract:Semifields are semirings in which every nonzero element has a multiplicative inverse. A rough classification uses the characteristic of the semifield, that is the isomorphism type of the semifield generated by the two neutral elements. For every characteristic, we provide a structure theorem that reduces the classification of semifields to the classification of better-known algebraic structures. Every semifield of characteristic $p$ is actually a field. There is an equivalence between semifields of characteristic one and lattice-ordered groups. Strict semifields of characteristic zero are quotients of cancellative semifields and there is an equivalence between concellative strict semifields and a particular class of partially ordered rings.
Galois order realization of noncommutative type $D$ Kleinian singularities

Abstract:Galois orders, introduced by Futorny and Ovsienko, is a class of noncommutative algebras that includes generalized Weyl algebras, the enveloping algebra of the general linear Lie algebra and many others. We prove that the noncommutative Kleinian singularities of type $D$ can be realized as principal Galois orders. Our starting point is an embedding theorem due to Boddington. We also compute explicit generators for the corresponding (Morita equivalent) flag order, as a subalgebra of the nil-Hecke algebra of type $A_1^{(1)}$. Lastly, we compute structure constants for Harish-Chandra modules of local distributions and give a visual description of their structure from which subquotients are easily obtained.

Drinfeld rational fractions for affine Kac-Moody quantum symmetric pairs

Abstract:We formulate a precise connection between the new Drinfeld presentation of a quantum affine algebra $U_q\widehat{\mathfrak{g}}$ and the new Drinfeld presentation of affine coideal subalgebras of split type recently discovered by Lu and Wang. In particular, we establish a ``factorization formula'', expressing the commuting ``Drinfeld-Cartan''-type operators $\Theta_{i,k}$ in a coideal subalgebra in terms of the corresponding Drinfeld generators of $U_q\widehat{\mathfrak{g}}$, modulo the ``Drinfeld positive half" of $U_q\widehat{\mathfrak{g}}$. We study the spectra of these operators on finite dimensional representations, and describe them in terms of rational functions with an extra symmetry. These results can be seen as the starting point of a $q$-character theory for affine Kac--Moody quantum symmetric pairs. Additionally, we prove a compatibility result linking Lusztig's and the Lu-Wang-Zhang braid group actions.

Abstract:Let $A$ be a real quadratic order of discriminant $p$ or $4p$ with a prime $p$. In this paper we classify all proper totally imaginary quadratic $A$-orders $B$ with index $w(B) = [B^\times : A^\times] \gt 1$. We also calculate numerical invariants of these orders including the class number, the index $w(B)$ and the numbers of local optimal embeddings of these orders into quaternion orders. These numerical invariants are useful for computing the class numbers of totally definite quaternion algebras.

A parametrization of nonassociative cyclic algebras of prime degree

Abstract:We determine and explicitly parametrize the isomorphism classes of nonassociative quaternion algebras over a field of characteristic different from two, as well as the isomorphism classes of nonassociative cyclic algebras of odd prime degree when the base field contains a primitive $m$th root of unity. In the course of doing so, we prove that any two such algebras can be isomorphic only if the cyclic field extension and the chosen generator of the Galois group are the same. As an application, we give a parametrization of nonassociative cyclic algebras of prime degree over a local nonarchimedean field $F$, which is entirely explicit under mild hypotheses on the residual characteristic. In particular, this gives a rich understanding of the important class of nonassociative quaternion algebras up to isomorphism over nonarchimedean local fields.

Abstract:Let $\mathbb{N} \mathcal{A}$ be the monoid generated by $\mathcal{A} = {\mathbf{a}_1, ..., \mathbf{a}_n} \subseteq \mathbb{Z}^d.$ We introduce the homogeneous catenary degree of $\mathbb{N} \mathcal{A}$ as the smallest $N \in \mathbb N$ with the following property: for each $\mathbf{a} \in \mathbb{N} \mathcal{A}$ and any two factorizations $\mathbf{u}, \mathbf{v}$ of $\mathbf{a}$, there exists factorizations $\mathbf{u} = \mathbf{w}_1, ..., \mathbf{w}_t = \mathbf{v} $ of $\mathbf{a}$ such that, for every $k, \mathrm{d}(\mathbf{w}_k, \mathbf{w}_{k+1}) \leq N,$ where $\mathrm{d}$ is the usual distance between factorizations, and the length of $\mathbf{w}_k, |\mathbf{w}_k|,$ is less than or equal to $\max{|\mathbf{u}|, |\mathbf{v}|}.$ We prove that the homogeneous catenary degree of $\mathbb{N} \mathcal{A}$ improves the monotone catenary degree as upper bound for the ordinary catenary degree, and we show that it can be effectively computed. We also prove that for half-factorial monoids, the tame degree and the $\omega$-primality coincide, and that all possible catenary degrees of the elements of an affine semigroup of this kind occur as the catenary degree of one of its Betti elements.

On quadratic rational Frobenius groups

Abstract:Let $G$ be a finite group and, for a given complex character $\chi$ of $G$, let ${\mathbb{Q}}(\chi)$ denote the field extension of ${\mathbb{Q}}$ obtained by adjoining all the values $\chi(g)$, for $g\in G$. The group $G$ is called quadratic rational if, for every irreducible complex character $\chi\in{\rm{Irr}}(G)$, the field ${\mathbb{Q}}(\chi)$ is an extension of ${\mathbb{Q}}$ of degree at most $2$. Quadratic rational groups have a nice characterization in terms of the structure of the group of central units in their integral group ring, and in fact they generalize the well-known concept of a cut group (i.e., a finite group whose integral group ring has a finite group of central units). In this paper we classify the Frobenius groups that are quadratic rational, a crucial step in the project of describing the Gruenberg-Kegel graphs associated to quadratic rational groups. It turns out that every Frobenius quadratic rational group is uniformly semi-rational, i.e., it satisfies the following property: all the generators of any cyclic subgroup of $G$ lie in at most two conjugacy classes of $G$, and these classes are permuted by the same element of the Galois group ${\rm{Gal}}({\mathbb{Q}}_{|G|}/{\mathbb{Q}})$ (in general, every cut group is uniformly semi-rational, and every uniformly semi-rational group is quadratic rational). We will also see that the class of groups here considered coincides with the one studied in [4], thus the main result of this paper also completes the analysis carried out in [4].

Abstract:In a 2022 paper, Dawsey, Just and the present author prove that the set of integer partitions, taken as a monoid under a partition multiplication operation I defined in my Ph.D. work, is isomorphic to the positive integers as a monoid under integer multiplication. In this note, I extend partition multiplication to the set of overpartitions, which are of much interest in partition theory. I prove the overpartitions form an Abelian group under partition multiplication. Moreover, the overpartitions and the positive rational numbers are isomorphic as multiplicative groups. I then prove further overpartition isomorphisms and discuss approaches to a ring theory of overpartitions.

Abstract:Suppose that K is a field, S=K[x1,...,xn] or S=K[[x1,...,xn]] . We present a characterization of those monomial ideals I of S , for which S / I is a half-factorial ring. This characterization is related to the structure of the base field K and also depends on the combinatorics of a graph constructed from the monomial ideal I . We also show that if R[x] or R[[x]] is half-factorial for an arbitrary commutative ring R , then R is an integral domain.

We prove that if is real quadratic, then the number of partitions is always finite if and only if some conjugate of is larger than 1. Further, we show that for satisfying a certain condition, the partition function attains all non-negative integers as values.

Abstract:Let $O$ be an order of odd discriminant $D$ in an imaginary quadratic field $K$. Let $Cl(O)$ be the group of proper $O$-ideals and $Cl(O)[2]$ the kernel of multiplication by $2$ in $Cl(O)$. We describe explicitly the group $Cl(O)[2]$. In particular, we prove that its order is $2^{s_D-1}$ where $s_D$ is the number of prime divisors of $D$.
