Abstract:In the article, we study the associated production of prompt $J/\psi$ mesons and $Z(W)$ bosons in the improved color evaporation model using the high-energy factorization as it is formulated in the parton Reggeization approach. The last one is based on the modified Kimber-Martin-Ryskin-Watt model for unintegrated parton distribution functions and the effective field theory of Reggezied gluons and quarks, suggested by L.N.~Lipatov. We predict cross section for associated $J/\psi$ and $Z ( W)$ hadroproduction via the single and double parton scattering mechanisms using the set of model parameters that have been obtained early for the description of single and double prompt $J/\psi$ production at the LHC energies. The numerical calculations are realized using the Monte-Carlo event generator KaTie. The calculation results are compared with the data at the energies $\sqrt{s} = 7 \mbox{ and } 8$ TeV and we make predictions for the energy $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV for $J/\psi$ plus $Z(W)$ and $\Upsilon$ plus $Z/W$ at the $\sqrt{s} = 8 \mbox{ and } 13$ TeV associated productions.
High Energy Physics - Phenomenology
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to study the associated production process of J/ψ meson and Z(W) boson in high - energy proton - proton collisions through the Improved Color Evaporation Model (ICEM) and the Parton Reggeization Approach (PRA). Specifically, the paper focuses on the following aspects: 1. **Selection of theoretical framework**: The paper selects the High - Energy Factorization (HEF) or \(k_T\) - factorization method to describe the associated production of J/ψ and Z(W) boson. This method is based on the Feynman rules of Reggeized quarks and gluons in L.N. Lipatov's Effective Field Theory (EFT), ensuring its gauge invariance. 2. **Single - Parton Scattering (SPS) and Double - Parton Scattering (DPS) mechanisms**: The paper not only considers the traditional Single - Parton Scattering mechanism but also introduces the Double - Parton Scattering mechanism. This is because experimental data show that the associated production process of J/ψ and Z(W) boson cannot be fully explained by using only the SPS mechanism, and the DPS mechanism needs to be introduced for supplementary description. 3. **Determination of parameters**: The paper uses model parameters that have been determined in previous studies, such as \(F_\psi\) and \(F_\Upsilon\), as well as the general parameter \(\sigma_{\text{eff}}\) of DPS. These parameters are obtained in the process of describing the production of single and double J/ψ or Υ, and remain unchanged in this paper to predict the associated production process of J/ψ and Z(W) boson. 4. **Numerical calculation**: The paper uses the Monte Carlo event generator KaTie for numerical calculation to verify the predictions of the theoretical model. The calculation results are compared with the experimental data of the ATLAS collaboration at 7 TeV and 8 TeV energies, and the associated production process of J/ψ and Z(W) boson at 13 TeV energy is predicted. 5. **Result analysis**: The paper shows the distributions of the associated production process of J/ψ and Z(W) boson in different transverse momenta and azimuthal angle differences, and analyzes the contributions of the SPS and DPS mechanisms. The results show that the DPS mechanism is dominant in most cases, especially in the high - transverse - momentum region. In summary, this paper aims to comprehensively describe and predict the associated production process of J/ψ and Z(W) boson through the Improved Color Evaporation Model and the Parton Reggeization Approach, thereby verifying the Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) theory in high - energy proton - proton collisions.
