Abstract:We find an extension of the quasi-metric (to be called $g$-quasi metric) such that the induced generalized topology may fail to form a topology. We show that $g$-quasi metrizability is a $g$-topologically invariant property of generalized topological spaces. Extending metric product and uniform continuity for $g$-quasi metric spaces, we note that a $g$-quasi metric may fail to be uniformly continuous in the extended sense unlike usual metric. Finally, we extend the study of completeness, Lebesgue property and weak $G$-completeness for $g$-quasi metric spaces.

Abstract:There have been many attempts to generalize the definition of a metric space in order to obtain possibilities for more general fixed point results. In this paper, we give a survey of recent results on reducing fixed point theorems on generalized metric spaces to fixed point theorems on metric spaces and then investigate this fact in other generalized metric spaces. We show that many generalized metric spaces are topologically equivalent to certain metric spaces or to previously generalized metric spaces. Also, the fixed point theory in these generalized metric spaces may be a consequence of the fixed point theory in certain metric spaces or in previously generalized metric spaces.

Also an analogue of `Banach type fixed point theorem' of generalized parametric metric space is proved and its application on the existence of a solution of first order periodic boundary value differential equation is examined.

Abstract:Connectedness, path connectedness, and uniform connectedness are well-known concepts. In the traditional presentation of these concepts there is a substantial difference between connectedness and the other two notions, namely connectedness is defined as the absence of disconnectedness, while path connectedness and uniform connectedness are defined in terms of connecting paths and connecting chains, respectively. In compact metric spaces uniform connectedness and connectedness are well-known to coincide, thus the apparent conceptual difference between the two notions disappears. Connectedness in topological spaces can also be defined in terms of chains governed by open coverings in a manner that is more reminiscent of path connectedness. We present a unifying metric formalism for connectedness, which encompasses both connectedness of topological spaces and uniform connectedness of uniform spaces, and which further extends to a hierarchy of notions of connectedness.

Abstract:The chapter is an extensive account of the metric topology and is a prerequisite for all the subsequent chapters. The leading sections develop the basic metric properties such as closure and interior, continuity and equivalent metrics, separation properties, product spaces, and countability axioms. This is followed by a detailed study of completeness, compactness, local compactness, and function spaces. Chapter applications include contraction mappings, continuous nowhere differentiable functions, space-filling curves, closed convex subsets of ?n, and a number of approximation results. The chapter concludes with a detailed section on orthogonal polynomials and Fourier series of continuous functions, which, together with section 3.7, provides an excellent background for Hilbert spaces. The study of sequence and function spaces in this chapter leads up gradually into Banach spaces.

Abstract:We present a general fixed point theorem which can be seen as the quintessence of the principles of proof for Banach's Fixed Point Theorem, ultrametric and certain topological fixed point theorems. It works in a minimal setting, not involving any metrics. We demonstrate its applications to the metric, ultrametric and topological cases, and to ordered abelian groups and fields.

Abstract:We study generic properties of topological groups in the sense of Baire category. First, we investigate countably infinite groups. We extend a classical result of B. H. Neumann, H. Simmons and A. Macintyre on algebraically closed groups and the word problem. Recently, I. Goldbring, S. Kunnawalkam Elayavalli, and Y. Lodha proved that every isomorphism class is meager among countably infinite groups. In contrast, it follows from the work of W. Hodges on model-theoretic forcing that there exists a comeager isomorphism class among countably infinite abelian groups. We present a new elementary proof of this result. Then, we turn to compact metrizable abelian groups. We use Pontryagin duality to show that there is a comeager isomorphism class among compact metrizable abelian groups. We discuss its connections to the countably infinite case. Finally, we study compact metrizable groups. We prove that the generic compact metrizable group is neither connected nor totally disconnected; also it is neither torsion-free nor a torsion group.

Abstract:This paper conglomerates our findings on the space $C(X)$ of all real valued continuous functions, under different generalizations of the topology of uniform convergence and the $m$-topology. The paper begins with answering all the questions which were left open in our previous paper on the classifications of $Z$-ideals of $C(X)$ induced by the $U_I$ and the $m_I$-topologies on $C(X)$. Motivated by the definition of $m^I$-topology, another generalization of the topology of uniform convergence, called $U^I$-topology, is introduced here. Among several other results, it is established that for a convex ideal $I$, a necessary and sufficient condition for $U^I$-topology to coincide with $m^I$-topology is the boundedness of $X\setminus\bigcap Z[I]$ in $X$. As opposed to the case of the $U_I$-topologies (and $m_I$-topologies), it is proved that each $U^I$-topology (respectively, $m^I$-topology) on $C(X)$ is uniquely determined by the ideal $I$. In the last section, the denseness of the set of units of $C(X)$ in $C_U(X)$ (= $C(X)$ with the topology of uniform convergence) is shown to be equivalent to the strong zero dimensionality of the space $X$. Also, the space $X$ is a weakly P-space if and only if the set of zero divisors (including 0) in $C(X)$ is closed in $C_U(X)$. Computing the closure of $C_\mathscr{P}(X)$ (=$\{f\in C(X):\text{the support of }f\in\mathscr{P}\}$ where $\mathscr{P}$ denotes the ideal of closed sets in $X$) in $C_U(X)$ and $C_m(X)$ (= $C(X)$ with the $m$-topology), the results $cl_UC_\mathscr{P}(X) = C_\infty^\mathscr{P}(X)$ ($=\{f\in C(X):\forall n\in\mathbb{N}, \{x\in X:|f(x)|\geq\frac{1}{n}\}\in\mathscr{P}\}$) and $cl_mC_\mathscr{P}(X)=\{f\in C(X):f.g\in C^\mathscr{P}_\infty(X)\text{ for each }g\in C(X)\}$ are achieved.

Abstract:A semitopological group $G$ is called {\it an $n$-semitopological group}, if for any $g\in G$ with $e\not\in\overline{\{g\}}$ there is a neighborhood $W$ of $e$ such that $g\not\in W^{n}$, where $n\in\mathbb{N}$. The class of $n$-semitopological groups ($n\geq 2$) contains the class of paratopological groups and Hausdorff quasi-topological groups. Fix any $n\in\mathbb{N}$. Some properties of $n$-semitopological groups are studied, and some questions about $n$-semitopological groups are posed. Some generalized metric properties of $n$-semitopological groups are discussed, which contains mainly results are that (1) each Hausdorff first-countable 2-semitopological group admits a coarser Hausdorff semi-metrizable topology and has $G_{\delta}^{\ast}$-diagonal; (2) each locally compact, Baire and $\sigma$-compact 2-semitopological group is a topological group; (3) the condensation of some kind of 2-semitopological groups topologies are given. Finally, some cardinal invariants of $n$-semitopological groups are discussed.

Abstract:The Adler-Konheim-McAndrew type definitions and the Bowen-Dinaburg-Hood type definitions of parametric topological entropy will be considered on orbits and coincidence orbits of nonautonomous multivalued maps in compact Hausdorff spaces. Their mutual relationship and their link to various further types of definitions like those of (parametric) preimage entropy, will be investigated. In this way, several recent results of the other authors will be generalized and extended into a new setting.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the compactifications of some topological spaces such that their remainders have countable tightness. We also study addition theorems for compacta. The main results are: (1) If bX is a compactification of a first-countable space X with a Gδ-diagonal (or a space X with a point-countable base) and bX∖X has countable tightness, then both bX and bX∖X have countable fan-tightness; (2) If a non-locally compact paratopological group G has a compactification bG such that the remainder bG∖G is the union of a finite family of metrizable subspaces, then G is locally separable and locally metrizable; (3) If a compact Hausdorff space Z=X∪Y, where X is a non-locally compact topological group which is a σ-space and dense in Z, and Y is a semitopological group, then Z is separable and metrizable; (4) If a compact Hausdorff space Z=X∪Y, where X is a non-locally compact paratopological group that has a countable network and is dense in Z, and Y is a semitopological group, then Z is separable and metrizable. Among them (2) and (3) improve the corresponding results given by A.V. Arhangel'skii in [7].

Abstract:The theory of generalized metric spaces is an active topic in general topology. In this article, we utilize the concepts of ideal convergence and networks to discuss the metrization problem and the mutual classification problem between spaces and mappings in topological spaces. We define I - s n -metrizable spaces, obtain several characterizations of I - s n -metrizable spaces, and establish some mapping relations between I - s n -metrizable spaces and semi-metric spaces. These not only generalize some theorems in generalized metric theory, but also find further applications of ideal convergence in general topology.

Abstract:For a surface immersed in a three-dimensional space endowed with a norm instead of an inner product, one can define analogous concepts of curvature and metric. With these concepts in mind, various questions immediately appear. The aim of this paper is to propose and answer some of those questions. In this framework we prove several characterizations of minimal surfaces, and analogues of some global theorems (e.g., Hadamard-type theorems) are also derived. A result on the curvature of surfaces of constant Minkowski width is also given. Finally, we study the ambient metric induced on the surface, proving an extension of the classical Bonnet theorem.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the differential topological properties of a large class of singular spaces: subcarteisan space. First, a minor further result on the partition of unity for differential spaces is derived. Second, the tubular neighborhood theorem for subcartesian spaces with constant structural dimensions is established. Third, the concept of Morse functions on smooth manifolds is generalized to differential spaces. For subcartesian space with constant structural dimension, a class of examples of Morse functions is provided. With the assumption that the subcartesian space can be embedded as a bounded subset of an Euclidean space, it is proved that any smooth bounded function on this space can be approximated by Morse functions. The infinitesimal stability of Morse functions on subcartesian spaces is studied. Classical results on Morse functions on smooth manifolds can be treated directly as corollaries of our results here.

On Some Topological Concepts of TVS-Cone Metric Spaces and Fixed Point Theory Remarks

Abstract:We prove that every TVS-cone metric space (i.e a cone metric space over a locally convex topological vector space $E$) is first countable paracompact topological space and by using Du's results in " [A note on cone metric fixed point theory and its equivalence, {Nonlinear Analysis},72(5),2259-2261 (2010)]", we conclude that every TVS-cone metric space is topologically isomorphic to a topological metric space. We also show how to construct comparable metric topologies to TVS-cone metric topologies by using the system of seminorms generating the topology of the locally convex topological vector space $E$. When $E$ is a Banach space these metric topologies turn to be equivalent to the original TVS-cone metric topologies. Even though, we remark that there are still some fixed point theorems to deal nontrivially with them in TVS-cone metric spaces. The nonlinear scalarization is used also to prove some fixed point theorems with nonlinear contractive conditions.

Metrization of Gromov-Hausdorff-type topologies on boundedly-compact metric spaces

Abstract:We present a new general framework for metrization of Gromov-Hausdorff-type topologies on non-compact metric spaces. We also give easy-to-check conditions for separability and completeness and hence the measure theoretic requirements are provided to study convergence of random spaces with additional random objects. In particular, our framework enables us to define a metric inducing a suitable Gromov-Hausdorff-type topology on the space of rooted boundedly-compact metric spaces with laws of stochastic processes and/or random fields, which was not clear how to do in previous frameworks. In addition to general theory, this paper includes several examples of Gromov-Hausdorff-type topologies, verifying that classical examples such as the Gromov-Hausdorff topology and the Gromov-Hausdorff-Prohorov topology are contained within our framework.
