Abstract:We construct an analog of the Hodge theory on complex manifolds on tropical curves. We use the analytical approach to the problem, it is based on language of tropical differential forms and methods of $L^2-$cohomologies.

Abstract:To prove log-concavity of the characteristic polynomials of matroids, Adiprasito-Huh-Katz proved the Kähler package (the hard Lefschetz theorem and the Hodge-Riemann bilinear relations) for their Chow rings. Amini-Piquerez generalized it to tropical cohomology of smooth projective tropical varieties. Their proofs were combinatorial. In this paper, we establish tropical Hodge theory except for regularity of solutions of Laplacian, and give a conditional proof of the Kähler package in the same way as compact Kähler manifolds.

Solving equations with Hodge theory

Abstract:We treat two quite different problems related to changes of complex structures on Kähler manifolds by using global geometric method. First, by using operators from Hodge theory on compact Kähler manifold, we present a closed explicit extension formula for holomorphic canonical forms in different complex structures. As applications, we give a closed explicit formula for certain canonical sections of Hodge bundles on marked and polarized moduli spaces of projective manifolds, and provide a closed explicit extension formula for holomorphic pluricanonical forms under certain natural conditions. Second, by using the operators in L^2-Hodge theory on Poincaré disk, we present a simple and unified method to solve the Beltrami equations with measurable coefficients for quasi-conformal maps.

Abstract:We prove several formulas related to Hodge theory and the Kodaira-Spencer-Kuranishi deformation theory of Kahler manifolds. As applications, we present a construction of globally convergent power series of integrable Beltrami differentials on Calabi-Yau manifolds and also a construction of global canonical family of holomorphic $(n,0)$-forms on the deformation spaces of Calabi-Yau manifolds. Similar constructions are also applied to the deformation spaces of compact Kahler manifolds.

Abstract: We describe the proof that the period map from the Torelli space of Calabi-Yau manifolds to the classifying space of polarized Hodge structures is an embedding. The proof is based on the constructions of holomorphic affine structure on the Teichm\"uller space and Hodge metric completion of the Torelli space. A canonical global holomorphic section of the holomorphic $(n, 0)$ class on the Teichm\"uller space is constructed.

Abstract:We study the tropical Dolbeault cohomology of non-archimedean curves as defined by Chambert-Loir and Ducros. We give a precise condition for when this cohomology satisfies Poincaré duality. The condition is always satisfied when the residue field of the non-archimedean base field is the algebraic closure of a finite field. We also show that for curves over fields with residue field ℂ, the tropical (1, 1)-Dolbeault cohomology can be infinite dimensional. Our main new ingredient is an exponential type sequence that relates tropical Dolbeault cohomology to the cohomology of the sheaf of harmonic functions. As an application of our Poincaré duality result, we calculate the dimensions of the tropical Dolbeault cohomology, called tropical Hodge numbers, for (open subsets of) curves.

A tropical approach to a generalized Hodge conjecture for positive currents

Abstract:In 1982, Demailly showed that the Hodge conjecture follows from the statement that all positive closed currents with rational cohomology class can be approximated by positive linear combinations of integration currents. Moreover, in 2012, he showed that the Hodge conjecture is equivalent to the statement that any (p,p)-dimensional closed current with rational cohomology class can be approximated by linear combinations of integration currents. In this article, we find a current which does not verify the former statement on a smooth projective variety for which the Hodge conjecture is known to hold. To construct this current, we extend the framework of “tropical currents”—recently introduced by the first author—from tori to toric varieties. We discuss extremality properties of tropical currents and show that the cohomology class of a tropical current is the recession of its underlying tropical variety. The counterexample is obtained from a tropical surface in R4 whose intersection form does not have the right signature in terms of the Hodge index theorem.

Abstract:Ducros, Hrushovski, and Loeser gave maps from families of archimedean diffrential forms to non-archiemedean (or tropical) ones, which are compatible with integrals on algebraic varieties. In this paper, we introduce slight modifications of their maps for complex projective varieties which give natural maps from tropical to the usual Dolbeault cohomology. We also show that our maps are compatible with integrals on generic semi-algebraic subsets and those on their weighted tropicalizations. Weighted tropicalizations induce the dual maps of the above maps of Dolbeault cohomology groups under some assumptions.

Abstract:This paper is the first in a series devoted to the development of a Hodge theory for tropical varieties. We introduce a notion of T-stability for tropical fans and prove that various geometric properties of tropical fans are T-stable. As a consequence, we establish Kähler properties for the Chow ring in a large class of tropical fans, going beyond the case of matroids and their Bergman fans. As a by-product, we obtain a new proof of the Kähler package for combinatorial geometries. The approach makes it possible to deal with tropical fans with general weights.

Abstract:Duality of curves is one of the important aspects of the ``classical'' algebraic geometry. In this paper, using this foundation, the duality of tropical polynomials is constructed to introduce the duality of Non-Archimedean curves. Using the development of ``mechanism'' which is based on ``distortion'' values and their matrices, we discuss some aspects refereing to quadrics with respect to their dual objects. This topic includes also the induced dual subdivision of Newton Polytope and its compatible properties. Finally, a regularity of tropical curves in the duality sense is generally defined and, studied for families of tropical quadrics.

Cohomologically tropical varieties

Abstract:Given the tropicalization of a complex subvariety of the torus, we define a morphism between the tropical cohomology and the rational cohomology of their respective tropical compactifications. We say that the subvariety of the torus is cohomologically tropical if this map is an isomorphism for all closed strata of the tropical compactification. We prove that a schön subvariety of the torus is cohomologically tropical if and only if it is wunderschön and its tropicalization is a tropical homology manifold. The former property means that the open strata in the boundary of a tropical compactification are all connected and the mixed Hodge structures on their cohomology are pure of maximum possible weight; the latter property requires that, locally, the tropicalization verifies tropical Poincaré duality. We study other properties of cohomologically tropical and wunderschön varieties, and show that in a semistable degeneration to an arrangement of cohomologically tropical varieties, the Hodge numbers of the smooth fibers are captured in the tropical cohomology of the tropicalization. This extends the results of Itenberg, Katzarkov, Mikhalkin, and Zharkov.

Abstract:We give an explicit description of theta-characteristics on tropical curves and characterize the effective ones. We construct the moduli space for tropical theta-characteristics of genus g as a generalized cone complex. We describe the fibers of the specialization map from the classical moduli space of theta-characteristics on algebraic curves to our moduli space of tropical theta-characteristics.

Abstract:Patchworking theorems serve as a basic element of the correspondence between tropical and algebraic curves, which is a core of the tropical enumerative geometry. We present a new version of a patchworking theorem which relates plane tropical curves with complex and real algebraic curves having prescribed multiple points. It can be used to compute Welschinger invariants of non-toric Del Pezzo surfaces.

Abstract:T. Mochizuki constructs a theory of variations of wild Hodge structure for which the underlying flat connection can have irregular singularities at infinity. He extends in this way the correspondence of Corlette and Simpson between irreducible flat bundles and stables Higgs bundles, taking into account objects with irregular singularities. As an application, he proves a conjecture of Kashiwara concerning a generalization of the Hard Lefschetz theorem when the coefficients are the de Rham complex of a simple holonomic D-module on smooth complex projective variety.

Abstract:We calculate the tropical Dolbeault cohomology for the analytifications of the projective line and Mumford curves over non-archimedean fields. We show that the cohomology satisfies Poincaré duality and behaves analogously to the cohomology of curves over the complex numbers. Further, we give a complete calculation of the dimension of the cohomology on a basis of the topology.

Abstract:A tropical curve \Gamma is a metric graph with possibly unbounded edges, and tropical rational functions are continuous piecewise linear functions with integer slopes. We define the complete linear system |D| of a divisor D on a tropical curve \Gamma analogously to the classical counterpart. We investigate the structure of |D| as a cell complex and show that linear systems are quotients of tropical modules, finitely generated by vertices of the cell complex. Using a finite set of generators, |D| defines a map from \Gamma to a tropical projective space, and the image can be extended to a tropical curve of degree equal to °(D). The tropical convex hull of the image realizes the linear system |D| as a polyhedral complex. We show that curves for which the canonical divisor is not very ample are hyperelliptic. We also show that the Picard group of a \Q-tropical curve is a direct limit of critical groups of finite graphs converging to the curve.

Abstract:We generalize former results of Zuo and the first author showing some hyperbolicity properties of varieties supporting a variation of Hodge structure. Our proof only uses the special curvature properties of period domains. In particular, in contrast to the former approaches, it does not use any result on the asymptotic behaviour of the Hodge metric.

Abstract:We introduce new finite-dimensional cohomologies on symplectic manifolds. Each exhibits Lefschetz decomposition and contains a unique harmonic representative within each class. Associated with each cohomology is a primitive cohomology defined purely on the space of primitive forms. We identify the dual currents of lagrangians and more generally coisotropic submanifolds with elements of a primitive cohomology, which dualizes to a homology on coisotropic chains.
Tropical Weierstrass points and Weierstrass weights

Abstract:In this paper, we study tropical Weierstrass points. These are the analogues for tropical curves of ramification points of line bundles on algebraic curves. For a divisor on a tropical curve, we associate intrinsic weights to the connected components of the locus of tropical Weierstrass points. This is obtained by analyzing the slopes of rational functions in the complete linear series of the divisor. We prove that for a divisor $D$ of degree $d$ and rank $r$ on a genus $g$ tropical curve, the sum of weights is equal to $d - r + rg$. We establish analogous statements for tropical linear series. In the case $D$ comes from the tropicalization of a divisor, these weights control the number of Weierstrass points which are tropicalized to each component. Our results provide answers to open questions originating from the work of Baker on specialization of divisors from curves to graphs. We conclude with multiple examples which illustrate interesting features appearing in the study of tropical Weierstrass points, and raise several open questions.

Abstract:We describe an application of tropical moduli spaces to complex dynamics. A post-critically finite branched covering $\varphi$ of $S^2$ induces a pullback map on the Teichm\"uller space of complex structures of $S^2$; this descends to an algebraic correspondence on the moduli space of point-configurations of $\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^1$. We make a case for studying the action of the tropical moduli space correspondence by making explicit the connections between objects that have come up in one guise in tropical geometry and in another guise in complex dynamics. For example, a Thurston obstruction for $\varphi$ corresponds to a ray that is fixed by the tropical moduli space correspndence, and scaled by a factor $\ge 1$. This article is intended to be accessible to algebraic and tropical geometers as well as to complex dynamicists.

Abstract:This paper is the first part in a series of three papers devoted to the study of enumerative invariants of abelian surfaces through the tropical approach. In this paper, we consider the enumeration of genus g curves of fixed degree passing through g points. We compute the tropical multiplicity provided by a correspondence theorem due to T. Nishinou and show that it is possible to refine this multiplicity in the style of the Block–Göttsche refined multiplicity to get tropical refined invariants.
