Abstract:In this article, we consider the Schrödinger equation corresponding to the Laplace-Beltrami operator with radial initial data on Damek-Ricci spaces and study the Carleson's problem of pointwise convergence of the solution to its initial data along general curves that satisfy certain Hölder conditions and bilipschitz conditions in the distance from the identity. We obtain a sufficient condition on the regularity of the initial data for the above pointwise convergence to hold, which is sharp upto the endpoint. Certain Euclidean analogues are also obtained.

Abstract:We study the problem of pointwise convegence for the Schrödinger operator on $\mathbb R^n$ along time sequences. We show that the sharp counterexample to the sequential Schrödinger maximal estimate given recently by Li, Wang and Yan based in the construction by Lucà and Rogers can also be achieved with the construction of Bourgain, and we extend it to the fractal setting.

Abstract:We obtain improved Strichartz estimates for solutions of the Schrödinger equation on compact manifolds with nonpositive sectional curvatures which are related to the classical universal results of Burq, Gérard and Tzvetkov [11]. More explicitly, we are able refine the arguments in the recent work of Blair and the authors [3] to obtain no-loss $L^p_tL^{q}_{x}$-estimates on intervals of length $\log \lambda\cdot \lambda^{-1} $ for all {\em admissible} pairs $(p,q)$ when the initial data have frequencies comparable to $\lambda$, which, given the role of the Ehrenfest time, is the natural analog in this setting of the universal results in [11]. We achieve this log-gain over the universal estimates by applying the Keel-Tao theorem along with improved global kernel estimates for microlocalized operators which exploit the geometric assumptions.

Pointwise dispersive estimates for Schrodinger and wave equations in a conical singular space

Abstract:We study the pointwise decay estimates for the Schrödinger and wave equations on a product cone $(X,g)$, where the metric $g=dr^2+r^2 h$ and $X=C(Y)=(0,\infty)\times Y$ is a product cone over the closed Riemannian manifold $(Y,h)$ with metric $h$. Under the assumption that the conjugate radius $\epsilon$ of $Y$ satisfies $\epsilon>\pi$, we prove the pointwise dispersive estimates for the Schrödinger and half-wave propagator in this setting. The key ingredient is the modified Hadamard parametrix on $Y$ in which the role of the conjugate points does not come to play if $\epsilon>\pi$. In a work in progress, we will further study the case that $\epsilon\leq\pi$ in which the role of conjugate points come. A new finding is that a threshold of the {conjugate radius} of $Y$ for $L^p$-estimates in this setting is the magical number $\pi$.

Abstract:In this article, we shall construct the resolvent of Laplacian at high energies near the spectrum on non-product conic manifolds with a single cone tip. Microlocally, the resolvent kernel is the sum of b-pseudodifferential operators, scattering pseudodifferential operators and intersecting Legendrian distributions. As an application, we shall establish Strichartz estimates for Schrödinger equations on non-compact manifolds with multiple non-product conic singularities.

Abstract:We consider the PDEs version of the Carleson problem in the context of the cubic nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation. This means that we aim to establish the lowest regularity class for which one has almost everywhere pointwise convergence of the solutions to the initial data, as $t \to 0$. We prove sharp results for initial data in Sobolev spaces and for their randomized counterparts.

Abstract:One of the most celebrated problems in Euclidean Harmonic analysis is the Carleson's problem: determining the optimal regularity of the initial condition $f$ of the Schrödinger equation given by \begin{equation*}\begin{cases} i\frac{\partial u}{\partial t} =\Delta u\:,\: (x,t) \in \mathbb{R}^n \times \mathbb{R} \\ u(0,\cdot)=f\:, \text{ on } \mathbb{R}^n \:, \end{cases}\end{equation*} in terms of the index $\alpha$ such that $f$ belongs to the inhomogeneous Sobolev space $H^\alpha(\mathbb{R}^n)$ , so that the solution of the Schrödinger operator $u$ converges pointwise to $f$, $\lim_{t \to 0+} u(x,t)=f(x)$, almost everywhere. In this article, we consider the Carleson's problem for the Schrödinger equation with radial initial data on Damek-Ricci spaces and obtain the sharp bound up to the endpoint $\alpha \ge 1/4$, which agrees with the classical Euclidean case.

Abstract:In this note, we are concerned with the global singularity structures of weak solutions to 4-D semilinear dispersive wave equations whose initial data are chosen to be singular at a single point. Combining Strichartz’s inequality with the commutator argument techniques, we show that the weak solutions stay globally conormal if the Cauchy data are conormal.

Abstract:In this paper, we set up the selection conditions for time series $\{t_k\}_{k=1}^\infty$ which converge to 0 as $k\rightarrow\infty$ such that the solutions of a class of generalized Schrödinger equations almost everywhere pointwise converge to their initial data in $H^s(\mathbb{R}^n)$ for $s>0$. As it is known that the pointwise convergence can not be true for Schrödinger equation when $s<\frac{n}{2(n+1)}$ as $t\rightarrow0$.

Abstract:In this paper, we derive a strong convergence rate of spatial finite difference approximations for both focusing and defocusing stochastic cubic Schrödinger equations driven by a multiplicative Q-Wiener process. Beyond the uniform boundedness of moments for high order derivatives of the exact solution, the key requirement of our approach is the exponential integrability of both the exact and numerical solutions. By constructing and analyzing a Lyapunov functional and its discrete correspondence, we derive the uniform boundedness of moments for high order derivatives of the exact solution and the first order derivative of the numerical solution, which immediately yields the well-posedness of both the continuous and discrete problems. The latter exponential integrability is obtained through a variant of a criterion given by Cox, Hutzenthaler and Jentzen [arXiv:1309.5595]. As a by-product of this exponential integrability, we prove that the exact and numerical solutions depend continuously on the initial data and obtain a large deviation-type result on the dependence of the noise with first order strong convergence rate.

Abstract:In this paper, we study Strichartz estimates for the Schrödinger equation on a metric cone $X$, where $X=C(Y)=(0,\infty)_r\times Y$ and the cross section $Y$ is a $(n-1)$-dimensional closed Riemannian manifold $(Y,h)$. For the metric $g$ on $X$ given by $g=dr^2+r^2h$, let $\Delta_g$ be the positive Friedrichs extension Laplacian on $X$ and $V=V_0 r^{-2}$ where $V_0\in\CC^\infty(Y)$ is a real function such that the operator $P:=\Delta_h+V_0+(n-2)^2/4$ is a strictly positive operator on $L^2(Y)$. We establish the full range of global-in-time Strichartz estimates without loss for the Schrödinger equation associated with the operator $\LL_V=\Delta_g+V_0 r^{-2}$ including the endpoint estimate both in homogeneous and inhomogeneous cases. A new finding reveals that the range of admissible pairs at $\dot H^s$-level is influenced by the smallest eigenvalue of the operator $P$. This additionally proves the conjecture in Wang [Ann. Inst. Fourier 2006] and generalizes the results of Ford [Comm. Math. Phys. 2010] and Baskin-Marzuola-Wunsch [Contemp. Math. 2014]. As an application, we show the well-posedness theory and scattering theory for the Schrödinger equation with a cubic nonlinearity on this setting which verifies a conjecture in Baskin-Marzuola-Wunsch [Contemp. Math. 2014].

Abstract:The smoothing effect states that solutions to the Schr{ö}dinger equation in the Euclidean space have, for almost-every time, a local-in-space improved regularity (gain of half a derivative in Sobolev spaces). In this note, we show that, for the Schr{ö}dinger equation with a sub-quadratic confining potential, the smoothing effect is equivalent to an escape rate estimate on the associated classical flow. The proof relies on an Egorov theorem proved in~\cite{P:24Egorovinprep}.

Abstract:We show the strong convergence in arbitrary Sobolev norms of solutions of the discrete nonlinear Schr{ö}dinger on an infinite lattice towards those of the nonlinear Schr{ö}dinger equation on the whole space. We restrict our attention to the one and two-dimensional case, with a set of parameters which implies global well-posedness for the continuous equation. Our proof relies on the use of bilinear estimates for the Shannon interpolation as well as the control of the growth of discrete Sobolev norms that we both prove.

Abstract:We study the Schrödinger equation on a flat euclidean cone $\mathbb{R}_+ \times \mathbb{S}^1_\rho$ of cross-sectional radius $\rho > 0$, developing asymptotics for the fundamental solution both in the regime near the cone point and at radial infinity. These asymptotic expansions remain uniform while approaching the intersection of the "geometric front", the part of the solution coming from formal application of the method of images, and the "diffractive front" emerging from the cone tip. As an application, we prove Strichartz estimates for the Schrödinger propagator on this class of cones.

Generalizations of the Schrödinger maximal operator: building arithmetic counterexamples

Abstract:Let $T_t^{P_2}f(x)$ denote the solution to the linear Schrödinger equation at time $t$, with initial value function $f$, where $P_2 (\xi) = |\xi|^2$. In 1980, Carleson asked for the minimal regularity of $f$ that is required for the pointwise a.e. convergence of $T_t^{P_2} f(x)$ to $f(x)$ as $t \rightarrow 0.$ This was recently resolved by work of Bourgain, and Du and Zhang. This paper considers more general dispersive equations, and constructs counterexamples to pointwise a.e. convergence for a new class of real polynomial symbols $P$ of arbitrary degree, motivated by a broad question: what occurs for symbols lying in a generic class? We construct the counterexamples using number-theoretic methods, in particular the Weil bound for exponential sums, and the theory of Dwork-regular forms. This is the first case in which counterexamples are constructed for indecomposable forms, moving beyond special regimes where $P$ has some diagonal structure.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the Cauchy problem of the Schriidinger-Hartree equation. Applying the profile decomposition of bounded sequence in (H)over dot(1)(R-N) boolean AND (H)over dot(Sc)(R-N) and corresponding variational structure, a refined Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality is established and the sharp constant for this inequality is deduced. Secondly, via construction and analysis of some invariant manifolds, we derive a different criterion of global existence and blowup results. Under the discussion of Bootstrap argument, we additionally obtain other sufficient condition for global existence. Finally, A compactness result is applied to show that the blowup solutions with bounded (H)over dot(Sc), norm definitely have concentration properties related to a fixed (H)over dot( Sc) norm of certain standing waves.
