Abstract:We prove a relative version over $\mathbb{Q}$ of Nash-Tognoli theorem, that is: Let $M$ be a compact smooth manifold with closed smooth submanifolds $M_1,\dots,M_\ell$ in general position, then there exists a nonsingular real algebraic set $M'\subset\mathbb{R}^n$ with nonsingular algebraic subsets $M_1',\dots,M_\ell'$ and a diffeomorphism $h:M\to M'$ such that $h(M_i)=M_i'$ for all $i=1,\dots,\ell$ such that $M',M_1',\dots,M_\ell'$ are described, both globally and locally, by polynomial equations with rational coefficients. In addition, if $M,M_1,\dots,M_\ell$ are nonsingular algebraic sets, then we prove the diffeomorphism $h:M\to M'$ can be chosen semialgebraic and the result can be extended to the noncompact case. In the proof we describe also the $\mathbb{Z}/2\mathbb{Z}$-homological cycles of real embedded Grassmannian manifolds by nonsingular algebraic representatives over $\mathbb{Q}$ via the Bott-Samelson resolution of Schubert varieties.

Abstract:In this note, we prove a Nisnevich local equivalence \begin{equation*} X/(X-Z)\simeq X^\prime/(X^\prime-Z^\prime) \end{equation*} for essentially smooth local schemes $X$ and $X^\prime$ of the same dimension over a base scheme $B$, and arbitrary isomorphic closed subschemes $Z$ and $Z^\prime$, with immediate applications in motivic homotopy theory.

Rational ellipticity of $G$-manifolds from their quotients

Abstract:We prove that if a compact, simply connected Riemannian $G$-manifold $M$ has orbit space $M/G$ isometric to some other quotient $N/H$ with $N$ having zero topological entropy, then $M$ is rationally elliptic. This result, which generalizes most conditions on rational ellipticity, is a particular case of a more general result involving manifold submetries.

Abstract:This paper studies the quotient geometry of bounded or fixed-rank correlation matrices. We establish a bijection between the set of bounded-rank correlation matrices and a quotient set of a spherical product manifold by an orthogonal group. We show that it forms an orbit space, whose stratification is determined by the rank of the matrices, and the principal stratum has a compatible Riemannian quotient manifold structure. We show that any minimizing geodesic in the orbit space has constant rank on the interior of the segment. We also develop efficient Riemannian optimization algorithms for computing the distance and weighted the Frechet mean in the orbit space. Moreover, we examine geometric properties of the quotient manifold, including horizontal and vertical spaces, Riemannian metric, injectivity radius, exponential and logarithmic map, curvature, gradient and Hessian. Finally, we apply our approach to a functional connectivity study using the Autism Brain Imaging Data Exchange.

Abstract:In this work we study the existence of surjective Nash maps between two given semialgebraic sets S and T . Some key ingredients are: the irreducible components S i ⁎ of S (and their intersections), the analytic path-connected components T j of T (and their intersections) and the relations between dimensions of the semialgebraic sets S i ⁎ and T j . A first step to approach the previous problem is the former characterization done by the second author of the images of affine spaces under Nash maps. The core result of this article to obtain a criterion to decide about the existence of surjective Nash maps between two semialgebraic sets is: a full characterization of the semialgebraic subsets S ⊂ R n that are the image of the closed unit ball B ‾ m of R m centered at the origin under a Nash map f : R m → R n . The necessary and sufficient conditions that must satisfy such a semialgebraic set S are: it is compact, connected by analytic paths and has dimension d ≤ m . Two remarkable consequences of the latter result are the following: (1) pure dimensional compact irreducible arc-symmetric semialgebraic sets of dimension d are Nash images of B ‾ d , and (2) compact semialgebraic sets of dimension d are projections of non-singular algebraic sets of dimension d whose connected components are Nash diffeomorphic to spheres (maybe of different dimensions).

Abstract:We show that all generalized (real) Bott manifolds which are (small covers) quasitoric manifolds over a product of simplices $\Delta^{n_1}\times\cdots\times\Delta^{n_r}\times\Delta^{1}$ are always boundaries of some manifolds. But these manifolds with the natural $(\mathbb{Z}_2)^n$ action do not necessarily bound equvariantly. In addition, we can construct some examples of null-cobordant but not orientedly null-cobordant manifolds among quasitoric manifolds.

Abstract:Associated with each component of the Nash equilibria of a game are its index and degree. Its index is the local degree of the displacement map whose roots are the Nash equilibria of the game. Its degree is the local degree of the projection map from the Nash graph to the space of games. We show that the index and the degree of each component are the same. Further, they are invariant to adding or deleting redundant strategies, so they depend only on the reduced normal form of the game. Applications include Kohlberg and Mertens' existence theorems for stable sets and a simple procedure for calculating the degree of a component.Journal of Economic LiteratureClassification Number: C72.

Abstract:These notes give an introduction to the equivalence problem of sub-Riemannian manifolds. We first introduce preliminaries in terms of connections, frame bundles and sub-Riemannian geometry. Then we arrive to the main aim of these notes, which is to give the description of the canonical grading and connection existing on sub-Riemann manifolds with constant symbol. These structures are exactly what is needed in order to determine if two manifolds are isometric. We give three concrete examples, which are Engel (2,3,4)-manifolds, contact manifolds and Cartan (2,3,5)-manifolds. These notes are an edited version of a lecture series given at the \href{https://conference.math.muni.cz/srni/}{42nd Winter school: Geometry and Physics}, Snr\'i, Check Republic, mostly based on other earlier work. However, the work on Engel (2,3,4)-manifolds is original research, and illustrate the important special case were our model has the minimal set of isometries.
Quotients of abelian varieties by reflection groups

Abstract:We prove (by a case-by-case analysis) a conjecture of Bernstein/Schwarzman to the effect that quotients of abelian varieties by suitable actions of (complex) reflection groups are weighted projective spaces, and show that this remains true after reduction to finite characteristic (including characteristics dividing the order of the group!). We also show that an analogous statement holds (with five explicitly enumerated exceptions) for actions of quaternionic reflection groups on supersingular abelian varieties.

Abstract:We prove that a motivic equivalence of objects of the form \begin{equation*} X/(X-x)\simeq X^\prime/(X^\prime-x^\prime) \end{equation*} in $\mathbf{H}^\bullet(B)$ or $\mathbf{DM}(B)$ over a scheme $B$, where $x$ and $x^\prime$ are closed points of smooth $B$-schemes $X$ and $X^\prime$, implies an isomorphism of residue fields, i.e. \[x\cong x^\prime.\] For a given $d\geq 0$, $X,X^\prime\in\mathrm{Sm}_B$, $\operatorname{dim}_B X=d=\operatorname{dim}_B X^\prime$, and closed points $x$ and $x^\prime$ that residue fields are simple extensions of the ones of $B$, we show an isomorphism of groups \[\mathrm{Hom}_{\mathbf{DM}(B)}(X/(X-x),X^\prime/(X^\prime-x^\prime)))\cong\mathrm{Cor}(x,x^\prime),\] and prove that it leads to an equivalence of subcategories. Additionally, using the result on perverse homotopy heart by F.~Déglise and N.~Feld and F.~Jin and the strict homotopy invariance theorem for presheaves with transfers over fields by the first author, we prove an equivalence of the Rost cycle modules category and the homotopy heart of $\mathbf{DM}(k)$ over a field $k$ with integral coefficients.

Abstract:The Rumin algebra of a contact manifold is a contact invariant $C_\infty$-algebra of differential forms which computes the de Rham cohomology algebra. We recover this fact by giving a simple and explicit construction of the Rumin algebra via Markl's formulation of the Homotopy Transfer Theorem.

Abstract:We prove that, for any smooth and projective scheme $X$ over a field $k$ of char. $0$, the set of maps from Spec $k$ to $X$ in the $\mathbf{A}^1$-homotopy category of schemes $\mathcal{H}_{\mathbf{A}^1}(k)$ is in bijection with the quotient of $X(k)$ by $R$-equivalence, and is a birational invariant of $X$. This is achieved by establishing a precise relation between the localization of the category of smooth $k$-schemes by birational maps and the category $\mathcal{H}_{\mathbf{A}^1}(k)$, and by applying results of the second named author and R. Sujatha on birational invariants. This gives a new proof of results obtained by A. Asok and F. Morel.

Topological rigidity of quoric manifolds

Abstract:Quoric manifolds are the quaternionic analogue of toric manifolds. They admit a locally nice action of $(S^3)^n$ and the quotient is a manifold with corners. We show that they satisfy equivariant rigidity. More precisely, any locally linear $(S^3)^n$-manifold that it is equivariantly homotopic equivalent to a quoric manifold is equivariantly homeomorphic to it. The proof is given by generalising the methods of used in Coxeter and toric manifolds.

Abstract:We characterize Beurling quotient subspaces for pure doubly commuting isometric representations of product systems. As a consequence, we derive a concrete regular dilation theorem for a pure completely contractive covariant representation which satisfies Brehmer-Solel condition and using it and the above characterization, we provide a necessary and sufficient condition that when a completely contractive covariant representation is unitarily equivalent to the compression of the induced representation on the Beurling quotient subspace. Further, we study the relation between Sz.Nagy-Foias type factorization of isometric multi-analytic operators and joint invariant subspaces.

Commutativity of quantization with conic reduction for torus actions on compact CR manifolds

Abstract:We define conic reduction $X^{\mathrm{red}}_{\nu}$ for torus actions on the boundary $X$ of a strictly pseudo-convex domain and for a given weight $\nu$ labeling a unitary irreducible representation. There is a natural residual circle action on $X^{\mathrm{red}}_{\nu}$. We have two natural decompositions of the corresponding Hardy spaces $H(X)$ and $H(X^{\mathrm{red}}_{\nu})$. The first one is given by the ladder of isotypes $H(X)_{k\nu}$, $k\in\mathbb{Z}$, the second one is given by the $k$-th Fourier components $H(X^{\mathrm{red}}_{\nu})_k$ induced by the residual circle action. The aim of this paper is to prove that they are isomorphic for $k$ sufficiently large. The result is given for spaces of $(0,q)$-forms with $L^2$-coefficient when $X$ is a CR manifold with non-degenerate Levi-curvature.

Abstract:For later use in subsequent upcoming <a class="link-internal link-http" href="http://arxiv.org">arxiv.org</a> prepublications, basic foundational material on local, smooth or real analytic, CR-generic submanifolds of complex Euclidean spaces is developed from scratch, with strong emphasis on the interplay between extrinsic and intrinsic aspects, a constructive option that commands to perform computational syntheses in coordinates. Mainly, one finds a self-contained proof of the existence of precisely six general classes: I, II, III-1, III-2, IV-1, IV-2 of nondegenerate general CR manifolds up to dimension 5, class III-2 being unobserved untill now.
