Abstract:In this work we present a comparison of semi-inclusive muon and electron neutrino cross sections with $^{40}$Ar target measured by the MicroBooNE Collaboration with the predictions of an unfactorized model based on the relativistic distorted wave impulse approximation (RDWIA) and the SuSAv2-MEC model implemented in the neutrino event generator GENIE. The predictions based on the RDWIA approach, with a realistic description of the initial state and a phenomenological relativistic complex optical potential for the description of final state interactions, better describe the measured cross sections than GENIE-SuSAv2 and RDWIA with a purely real potential.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
This paper aims to address the differences between theoretical predictions and experimental measurements regarding the scattering of semi - inclusive charged - current electron and muon neutrinos with argon - 40. Specifically, the objective of the study is to compare the scattering cross - sections of semi - inclusive muon and electron neutrinos with an argon - 40 target, as measured by the MicroBooNE collaboration, with the prediction results based on the Relativistic Distorted Wave Impulse Approximation (RDWIA) and the SuSAv2 - MEC model implemented in the neutrino event generator GENIE. The study focuses on the ability of these models to describe the experimentally measured scattering cross - sections, especially whether the RDWIA method, which uses a realistic description of the initial state and a relativistic complex optical potential for describing the final - state interaction, can better describe the measured scattering cross - sections than the GENIE - SuSAv2 and the RDWIA method using only a real potential. ### Research Background - **Neutrino - nucleon interaction**: This is one of the key inputs for measuring neutrino oscillation parameters. Uncertainties related to nuclear models are an important source of systematic errors in current neutrino oscillation experiments such as NOvA and T2K, as well as in future ones such as DUNE and Hyper - Kamiokande. - **Liquid argon time - projection chamber (LArTPC) detector**: Many existing projects (such as SBN) and future experiments (including DUNE) will use this type of detector. Therefore, the measurement of the neutrino - argon scattering cross - section is of great significance. - **RDWIA model**: This model uses the Relativistic Distorted Wave Impulse Approximation to describe the final - state interaction and can predict the scattering cross - section more accurately. ### Research Methods - **Theoretical models**: The paper compares two different theoretical models - the RDWIA model based on the Relativistic Distorted Wave Impulse Approximation and the SuSAv2 - MEC model implemented in GENIE. - **Experimental data**: Use the experimental data provided by the MicroBooNE collaboration. These data include scattering cross - section measurements under different topologies, such as zero - pion, one lepton and at least one proton (CC0πNp) or zero - pion, one lepton and exactly one proton (CC0π1p). ### Main Findings - **RDWIA model**: The RDWIA model using the relativistic complex optical potential can better describe the experimental measurement results in most cases, especially in the CC0π1p topology, where its prediction has good agreement with the experimental data. - **SuSAv2 model**: In contrast, the GENIE - SuSAv2 model overestimates the experimental measurement results in certain momentum ranges, especially in the case of forward muon scattering angles. ### Conclusions - **Best model**: The RDWIA model, especially the version using the relativistic complex optical potential, performs best in describing the semi - inclusive neutrino - argon scattering cross - section, with an average χ²/d.o.f. value of 0.95, much lower than 2.84 of the ED - RMF model. - **Future directions**: The study also points out directions that need further verification in the future, for example, verifying the contribution of the 2p2h channel through more microscopic semi - inclusive 2p2h calculations. In summary, through detailed theoretical model comparison and experimental data contrast, this paper provides important insights for understanding neutrino - nucleon interactions and points out potential directions for future research.
