Abstract:Under certain hypotheses, we show that Legendrian surfaces related by disk surgery will have q-deformed augmentation spaces that are related by q-deformed cluster transformation. The proof is geometric, via considerations of moduli of holomorphic curves. In fact, our results naturally give a more general HOMFLYPT "skein-valued cluster transformation", of which the q-cluster transformation is the U(1) specialization. We apply our methods to the Legendrians associated to cubic planar graphs, where mutation of graphs lifts to Legendrian disk surgery. We show that their skein-valued mirrors transform by skein-valued cluster transformation, and give a formula for the skein-valued curve counts on their fillings.

Mirror of Orbifold Singularities in the Hitchin Fibration: the case $(\text{SL}_n,\text{PGL}_n)$

Abstract: We study the geometry of singular $\text{SL}_n$-Hitchin fibres over the elliptic locus. We show that orbifold singularities appear in the $\text{PGL}_n$-moduli space $M^{ell}(\text{PGL}_n)$ exactly when the $\text{SL}_n$ side $M^{ell}(\text{SL}_n)$ has a reducible Hitchin fibre. Our main theorem shows that the Fourier-Mukai transform of a skyscraper sheaf supported at an orbifold singularity in $M^{ell}(\text{PGL}_n)$ satisfies a version of the fractional Hecke eigenproperty, as conjectured by Frenkel and Witten.
On Mirror Symmetry and Irrationality of Zeta Values

Abstract:A fundamental object of study in mirror symmetry of $n$-dimensional Fano varieties is the A-side connection on small quantum cohomology. When the Picard rank is 1, the Borel transform relates the quantum differential operator of the Fano to the Picard-Fuchs operator of the mirror to the associated pencil of anticanonical Calabi-Yau $(n-1)$-folds on the Fano variety. Expanding on related work by W. Yang on the Beukers-Peters pencil of K3 surfaces associated with Apéry's proof for the irrationality of $\zeta(3)$, for such operators we define holomorphic prepotentials, virtual Yukawa couplings, and virtual instanton numbers, analogous to the usual ingredients of Calabi-Yau mirror symmetry. We prove that when the underlying Calabi-Yau operator is modular, the virtual Yukawa coupling is a modular form of weight-$(n+1)$, with the holomorphic prepotential as an Eichler integral. We then analyze the quantum differential operators for modular pencils of K3 surfaces arising as Dolgachev-Nikulin-Pinkham mirrors for the anticanonical linear systems for the 17 deformation classes of Fano threefolds of Picard rank-1 classified by Iskovskikh from the perspective of Golyshev & Zagier's proof of the Gamma conjecture for such Fanos, the natural setting of Yang's work. Here, the virtual instanton numbers are proven to be periodic integers with period equal to the level of the modular subgroup. Finally, we conjecture that the geometric nature of these virtual instanton numbers can be understood in terms of relative genus zero Gromov-Witten invariants of the associated log Calabi-Yau pair from the Fano threefold and anticanonical K3.

Miraculous cancellations and the quantum Frobenius for $SL_3$ skein modules

Abstract:We construct a quantum Frobenius map for the $SL_3$ skein module of any oriented 3-manifold specialized at a root of unity, and describe the map by way of threading certain polynomials along links. The homomorphism is a higher rank version of the Chebyshev-Frobenius homomorphism of Bonahon-Wong. The strategy builds on a previous construction of the Frobenius map for $SL_3$ skein algebras of punctured surfaces, using the Frobenius map of Parshall-Wang for the quantum group $\mathcal{O}_q(SL_3).$

Abstract:We study some arithmetic properties of the mirror maps and the quantum Yukawa couplings for some 1-parameter deformations of Calabi-Yau manifolds. First we use the Schwarzian differential equation, which we derived previously, to characterize the mirror map in each case. For algebraic K3 surfaces, we solve the equation in terms of theJ-function. By deriving explicit modular relations we prove that some K3 mirror maps are algebraic over the genus zero function fieldQ(J). This leads to a uniform proof that those mirror maps have integral Fourier coefficients. Regarding the maps as Riemann mappings, we prove that they are genus zero functions. By virtue of the Conway-Norton conjecture (proved by Borcherds using Frenkel-Lepowsky-Meurman's Moonshine module), we find that these maps are actually the reciprocals of the Thompson series for certain conjugacy classes in the Griess-Fischer group. This also gives, as an immediate consequence, a second proof that those mirror maps are integral. We thus conjecture a surprising connection between K3 mirror maps and the Thompson series. For threefolds, we construct a formal nonlinear ODE for the quantum coupling reduced modp. Under the mirror hypothesis and an integrality assumption, we derive modp congurences for the Fourier coefficients. For the quintics, we deduce, (at least for 5×d) that the degreed instanton numbersnd are divisible by 53 — a fact first conjectured by Clemens.

Abstract:We prove that the Hilbert scheme of $k$ points on $\mathbb{C}^2$ (Hilb$^k[\mathbb{C}^2]$) is self-dual under three-dimensional mirror symmetry using methods of geometry and integrability. Namely, we demonstrate that the corresponding quantum equivariant K-theory is invariant upon interchanging its Kähler and equivariant parameters as well as inverting the weight of the $\mathbb{C}^\times_\hbar$-action. First, we find a two-parameter family $X_{k,l}$ of self-mirror quiver varieties of type A and study their quantum K-theory algebras. The desired quantum K-theory of Hilb$^k[\mathbb{C}^2]$ is obtained via direct limit $l\to\infty$ and by imposing certain periodic boundary conditions on the quiver data. Throughout the proof, we employ the quantum/classical (q-Langlands) correspondence between XXZ Bethe Ansatz equations and spaces of twisted $\hbar$-opers. In the end, we propose the 3d mirror dual for the moduli spaces of torsion-free rank-$N$ sheaves on $\mathbb{P}^2$ with the help of a different (three-parametric) family of type A quiver varieties with known mirror dual.

Mirror symmetry for quadric hypersurfaces

Abstract:We compute Przyjalkowski-Shramov's resolution of the Calabi-Yau compactification of Givental's mirror Landau-Ginzburg model of the quadric hypersurfaces. We deduce the Picard-Fuchs equation for the narrow periods, which mirror the ambient quantum cohomology of quadric hypersurfaces. Then by an indirect approach using the irreducibility of the narrow Picard-Fuchs operator we deduce the Picard-Fuchs equation of the broad period, which mirrors the quantum cohomology of quadric hypersurfaces involving primitive cohomology classes. The result suggests a natural choice of the opposite space in Barannikov's construction of Frobenius manifolds. Finally, we show an isomorphism between the Frobenius manifolds associated with the quantum cohomology of a quadric hypersurface and its mirror Landau-Ginzburg model.

Quantum modularity for a closed hyperbolic 3-manifold

Abstract:This paper proves quantum modularity of both functions from $\mathbb{Q}$ and $q$-series associated to the closed manifold obtained by $-1/2$ surgery on the figure-eight knot, $4_1(-1,2)$. In a sense, this is a companion to work of Garoufalidis-Zagier where similar statements were studied in detail for some simple knots. It is shown that quantum modularity for closed manifolds provides a unification of Chen-Yang's volume conjecture with Witten's asymptotic expansion conjecture. Additionally we show that $4_1(-1,2)$ is a counter-example to previous conjectures relating the Witten-Reshetikhin-Turaev invariant and the $\widehat{Z}(q)$ series. This could be reformulated in terms of a "strange identity", which gives a volume conjecture for the $\widehat{Z}$ invariant. Using factorisation of state integrals, we give conjectural but precise $q$-hypergeometric formulae for generating series of Stokes constants of this manifold. We find that the generating series of Stokes constants is related to the 3d index of Dimofte-Gaiotto-Gukov of $4_1(-1,2)$ proposed by Gang-Yonekura. This extends the equivalent conjecture of Garoufalidis-Gu-Mariño for knots to closed manifolds. This work appeared in a similar form in the author's thesis.

Abstract:We introduce an invariant of a hyperbolic knot which is a map $\alpha\mapsto \boldsymbol{\Phi}_\alpha(h)$ from $\mathbb{Q}/\mathbb{Z}$ to matrices with entries in $\overline{\mathbb{Q}}[[h]]$ and with rows and columns indexed by the boundary parabolic ${\rm SL}_2(\mathbb{C})$ representations of the fundamental group of the knot. These matrix invariants have a rich structure: (a) their $(\sigma_0,\sigma_1)$ entry, where $\sigma_0$ is the trivial and $\sigma_1$ the geometric representation, is the power series expansion of the Kashaev invariant of the knot around the root of unity ${\rm e}^{2\pi{\rm i} \alpha}$ as an element of the Habiro ring, and the remaining entries belong to generalized Habiro rings of number fields; (b) the first column is given by the perturbative power series of Dimofte-Garoufalidis; (c) the columns of $\boldsymbol{\Phi}$ are fundamental solutions of a linear $q$-difference equation; (d) the matrix defines an ${\rm SL}_2(\mathbb{Z})$-cocycle $W_\gamma$ in matrix-valued functions on $\mathbb{Q}$ that conjecturally extends to a smooth function on $\mathbb{R}$ and even to holomorphic functions on suitable complex cut planes, lifting the factorially divergent series $\boldsymbol{\Phi}(h)$ to actual functions. The two invariants $\boldsymbol{\Phi}$ and $W_\gamma$ are related by a refined quantum modularity conjecture which we illustrate in detail for the three simplest hyperbolic knots, the $4_1$, $5_2$ and $(-2,3,7)$ pretzel knots. This paper has two sequels, one giving a different realization of our invariant as a matrix of convergent $q$-series with integer coefficients and the other studying its Habiro-like arithmetic properties in more depth.

Abstract:We prove that the quantum moduli algebra associated to a possibly punctured compact oriented surface and a complex semisimple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ is a Noetherian and finitely generated ring; if the surface has punctures, we prove also that it has no non-trivial zero divisors. Moreover, we show that the quantum moduli algebra is isomorphic to the skein algebra of the surface, defined by means of the Reshetikhin-Turaev functor for the quantum group $U_q(\mathfrak{g})$, and which coincides with the Kauffman bracket skein algebra when $\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{sl}_2$.

Abstract:We study 1-parameter families of holomorphic curves with Lagrangian boundary in Calabi-Yau 3-folds. We show that the expected codimension-1 phenomena can be organized to match the HOMFLYPT skein relations from quantum topology. It follows that counting holomorphic curves by the class of their boundaries in the skein module of the Lagrangian gives a deformation invariant result. This is a mathematically rigorous incarnation of Witten's assertion that boundaries of open topological strings create line defects in Chern-Simons theory. Using this theory, we rigorously establish the following prediction of Ooguri and Vafa: the coefficients of the HOMFLYPT polynomial of a link in the three-sphere count the holomorphic curves in the resolved conifold, with boundary on (a pushoff of) the link conormal.

Quantum geometry of moduli spaces of local systems and representation theory

Abstract:Let G be a split semi-simple adjoint group, and S a colored decorated surface, given by an oriented surface with punctures, special boundary points, and a specified collection of boundary intervals. We introduce a moduli space P(G,S) parametrizing G-local system on S with some boundary data, and prove that it carries a cluster Poisson structure, equivariant under the action of the cluster modular group M(G,S), containing the mapping class group of S, the group of outer automorphisms of G, and the product of Weyl / braid groups over punctures / boundary components. We prove that the dual moduli space A(G,S) carries a M(G,S)-equivariant cluster structure, and the pair (A(G,S), P(G,S)) is a cluster ensemble. These results generalize the works of V. Fock & the first author, and of I. Le. We quantize cluster Poisson varieties X for any Planck constant h s.t. h>0 or |h|=1. First, we define a *-algebra structure on the Langlands modular double A(h; X) of the algebra of functions on X. We construct a principal series of representations of the *-algebra A(h; X), equivariant under a unitary projective representation of the cluster modular group M(X). This extends works of V. Fock and the first author when h>0. Combining this, we get a M(G,S)-equivariant quantization of the moduli space P(G,S), given by the *-algebra A(h; P(G,S)) and its principal series representations. We construct realizations of the principal series *-representations. In particular, when S is punctured disc with two special points, we get a principal series *-representations of the Langlands modular double of the quantum group Uq(g). We conjecture that there is a nondegenerate pairing between the local system of coinvariants of oscillatory representations of the W-algebra and the one provided by the projective representation of the mapping class group of S.

Abstract:Mirror symmetry gives predictions for the genus zero Gromov-Witten invariants of a closed Calabi-Yau variety in terms of period integrals on a mirror family of Calabi-Yau varieties. We deduce an analogous mirror theorem for the open Gromov-Witten invariants of a certain Lagrangian immersion in the quintic threefold from homological mirror symmetry, assuming the existence of a negative cyclic open-closed map. The open Gromov-Witten (OGW) invariants of this immersed Lagrangian coincide with relative period integrals on the mirror quintic calculated by Walcher. The immersed Lagrangian in question supports a one-dimensional family of objects in the Fukaya category mirror to coherent sheaves supported on lines in the mirror quintic. Its OGW invariants are irrational numbers contained in a nontrivial algebraic extension of the rationals, and admit an expression similar to the Ooguri-Vafa multiple cover formula involving special values of a Dirichlet L-function. This field also arises as the invariant trace field of the hyperbolic pieces in the JSJ decomposition of the domain of the immersion. These results are consistent with predictions on the existence of hyperbolic Lagrangian submanifolds in the quintic put forward by Jockers-Morrison-Walcher.

Abstract:In previous work, we used new mathematical relations between Gopakumar-Vafa (GV) invariants and rank 0 Donaldson-Thomas (DT) invariants to determine the first few terms in the generating series of Abelian D4-D2-D0 indices for a class of compact one-parameter Calabi-Yau threefolds. This allowed us to obtain striking checks of S-duality, namely the prediction that these series should be vector-valued weakly holomorphic modular forms under $SL(2,\mathbb{Z})$. In this work, we extend this analysis to the case of D4-D2-D0 indices with two units of D4-brane charge, where S-duality instead predicts that the corresponding generating series should be mock modular with a specific shadow. For the degree 10 hypersurface in weighted projective space $\mathbb{P}_{5,2,1,1,1}$, and the degree 8 hypersurface in $\\mathbb{P}_{4,1,1,1,1}$, where GV invariants can be computed to sufficiently high genus, we find that the first few terms indeed match a unique mock modular form with the required properties, which we determine explicitly. Turning the argument around, we obtain new boundary conditions on the holomorphic ambiguity of the topological string amplitude, which in principle allow to determine it completely up to genus 95 and 112, respectively, i.e. almost twice the maximal genus obtainable using gap and ordinary Castelnuovo vanishing conditions.

Abstract:We establish the precise relation between the Nekrasov-Shatashvili (NS) quantization scheme and Grassi-Hatsuda-Mariño conjecture for the mirror curve of arbitrary toric Calabi-Yau threefold. For a mirror curve of genus g, the NS quantization scheme leads to g quantization conditions for the corresponding integrable system. The exact NS quantization conditions enjoy a self S-duality with respect to Planck constant h and can be derived from the Lockhart-Vafa partition function of non-perturbative topological string. Based on a recent observation on the correspondence between spectral theory and topological string, another quantization scheme was proposed by Grassi-Hatsuda-Mariño, in which there is a single quantization condition and the spectra are encoded in the vanishing of a quantum Riemann theta function. We demonstrate that there actually exist at least g nonequivalent quantum Riemann theta functions and the intersections of their theta divisors coincide with the spectra determined by the exact NS quantization conditions. This highly nontrivial coincidence between the two quantization schemes requires infinite constraints among the refined Gopakumar-Vafa invariants. The equivalence for mirror curves of genus one has been verified for some local del Pezzo surfaces. In this paper, we generalize the correspondence to higher genus, and analyze in detail the resolved $ {\mathbb{C}}^3/{\mathbb{Z}}_5 $ orbifold and several SU(N ) geometries. We also give a proof for some models at ħ = 2π/k.

Abstract:Given a smooth genus two curve $C$, the moduli space SU$_C(3)$ of rank three semi-stable vector bundles on $C$ with trivial determinant is a double cover in $\mathbb{P}^8$ branched over a sextic hypersurface, whose projective dual is the famous Coble cubic, the unique cubic hypersurface that is singular along the Jacobian of $C$. In this paper we continue our exploration of the connections of such moduli spaces with the representation theory of $GL_9$, initiated in \cite{GSW} and pursued in \cite{GS, sam-rains1, sam-rains2, bmt}. Starting from a general trivector $v$ in $\wedge^3\mathbb{C}^9$, we construct a Fano manifold $D_{Z_{10}}(v)$ in $G(3,9)$ as a so-called orbital degeneracy locus, and we prove that it defines a family of Hecke lines in SU$_C(3)$. We deduce that $D_{Z_{10}}(v)$ is isomorphic to the odd moduli space SU$_C(3, \mathcal{O}_C(c))$ of rank three stable vector bundles on $C$ with fixed effective determinant of degree one. We deduce that the intersection of $D_{Z_{10}}(v)$ with a general translate of $G(3,7)$ in $G(3,9)$ is a K3 surface of genus $19$.

Abstract:A moduli space of stable maps to the fibers of a fiber bundle is constructed. The new moduli space is a family version of the classical moduli space of stable maps to a non-singular complex projective variety. The virtual cycle for this moduli space is also constructed, and an analogue of Gromov-Witten invariants is defined. As an application, we recover the formula for the number of rational degree d curves in P3, whose image lies in a plane in P3 (known as planar curves in P3), intersecting r general lines while passing through given s general points, where r + 2s = 3d + 2, firstly proved by R. Mukherjee, R. Kumar Singh and the fourth named author.

Laurent polynomial mirrors for quiver flag zero loci

Abstract:The classification of Fano varieties is an important open question, motivated in part by the MMP. Smooth Fano varieties have been classified up to dimension three: one interesting feature of this classification is that they can all be described as certain subvarieties in GIT quotients; in particular, they are all either toric complete intersections (subvarieties of toric varieties) or quiver flag zero loci (subvarieties of quiver flag varieties). There is a program to use mirror symmetry to classify Fano varieties in higher dimensions. Fano varieties are expected to correspond to certain Laurent polynomials under mirror symmetry; given such a Fano toric complete intersections, one can produce a Laurent polynomial via the Hori--Vafa mirror. In this paper, we give a method to find Laurent polynomial mirrors to Fano quiver flag zero loci in $Y$-shaped quiver flag varieties. To do this, we generalise the Gelfand--Cetlin degeneration of type A flag varieties to Fano $Y$-shaped quiver flag varieties, and give a new description of these degenerations as canonical toric quiver varieties. We find conjectural mirrors to 99 four dimensional Fano quiver flag zero loci, and check them up to 20 terms of the period sequence.
