Abstract:Recent developments in hardware and information technology have enabled the emergence of billions of connected, intelligent devices around the world exchanging information with minimal human involvement. This paradigm, known as the Internet of Things (IoT) is progressing quickly with an estimated 27 billion devices by 2025. This growth in the number of IoT devices and successful IoT services has generated a tremendous amount of data. However, this humongous volume of data poses growing concerns for user privacy. This introductory chapter has presented a brief survey of some of the existing data privacy-preservation schemes proposed by researchers in the field of the Internet of Things.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The paper attempts to address the issue of protecting user data privacy in the Internet of Things (IoT). With the rapid increase in the number of IoT devices, these devices generate a large amount of data, and the storage and transmission of this data often lack sufficient security measures, leading to serious threats to user privacy. Specifically, the paper focuses on the following aspects: 1. **Data Privacy Issues**: The large amount of data generated by IoT devices is susceptible to attacks, and users' sensitive information may be leaked or misused. 2. **Inadequacies of Existing Privacy Protection Solutions**: Traditional privacy protection methods perform poorly in handling IoT applications, necessitating new technologies and methods to enhance data security. 3. **Regulatory Compliance**: IoT systems need to comply with regulations such as the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) to ensure users' control over their data. 4. **Application of Machine Learning**: Exploring how to utilize machine learning technologies, particularly distributed learning and differential privacy methods, to enhance data privacy protection. The paper aims to propose more effective and regulation-compliant data privacy protection solutions by reviewing the application of existing machine learning and encryption technologies in IoT data privacy protection.
