Abstract:We study the time evolution of geometric phases of one dimensional topological models under the quench dynamics. Taking the Creutz ladder model as an example, it is found that the Berry phase is fixed as the parameter is suddenly tuned across the topological phase boundary, given that the chiral symmetry of the model is preserved. At finite temperature, the Uhlmann phase displays abrupt jumps between the two quantized values, which indicates the topological transition at certain times after the quench. Both the Berry and Uhlmann phase will deviate from quantized values if the chiral symmetry of the model is broken. The relation between the Uhlmann phase and Loshmidt rate function under the quench process is also discussed.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
This paper attempts to address the problem of how the geometric phase of a one-dimensional topological system evolves during a quantum quench. Specifically, the authors investigate the time evolution of the geometric phase (including Berry phase and Uhlmann phase) of a one-dimensional topological model under quench dynamics. ### Main Issues: 1. **Behavior of Berry Phase during Quench**: - Does the Berry phase remain unchanged at zero temperature? - How does the Berry phase change if the chiral symmetry of the system is broken? 2. **Behavior of Uhlmann Phase during Quench**: - How does the Uhlmann phase evolve over time at finite temperature? - Can the Uhlmann phase predict topological phase transitions after the quench? - What is the relationship between the Uhlmann phase and the Loschmidt rate function? ### Research Methods: - **Model Selection**: Using the Creutz ladder model as an example, which is a typical one-dimensional topological system. - **Quench Process**: Observing the changes in Berry phase and Uhlmann phase by suddenly changing the model parameters. - **Numerical Calculation**: Calculating the Berry phase and Uhlmann phase at different time points through numerical simulations. ### Main Findings: - **Berry Phase**: - The Berry phase remains unchanged after the quench if the chiral symmetry is preserved. - When the chiral symmetry is broken, the Berry phase deviates from its quantized value. - **Uhlmann Phase**: - At finite temperature, the Uhlmann phase undergoes abrupt changes at certain time points, indicating a topological phase transition. - The changes in the Uhlmann phase are related to the peaks of the Loschmidt rate function, but there is no exact correspondence between the two. ### Conclusion: - The constancy of the Berry phase and the abrupt changes in the Uhlmann phase during the quench reveal the dynamical characteristics of topological systems. - The preservation or breaking of chiral symmetry has a significant impact on the behavior of geometric phases. - The Uhlmann phase at finite temperature can serve as an indicator of topological phase transitions. Through these studies, the authors provide new insights into understanding the dynamical behavior of one-dimensional topological systems during the quench process.
