Abstract:The new predictive electrolyte model COSMO-RS-ES is evaluated and refined for the calculation of solubilities of salts in mixed solvent systems. It is demonstrated that the model is capable of predicting solid-liquid equilibria at 25 °C for ammonium and alkali metal salts quite accurately in a wide variety of solvent mixtures. Furthermore, through the introduction of Gibbs free energies of transfer of single ions it is shown that the model performance can be improved even further. This new data type also allows for an ion-specific way of evaluating the model for the first time. For some systems when calculating the solubility, larger deviations are observed, but for the vast majority of systems the model delivers good predictions. This shows that COSMO-RS-ES is a valuable tool for calculation of phase equilibria in electrolyte systems especially when the scarcity of data impede the application of models that require a higher number of parameters.

### Problems the Paper Attempts to Solve This paper aims to evaluate and improve the novel electrolyte prediction model COSMO-RS-ES, which is based on salt solid-liquid equilibria (SLE) and Gibbs free energies of transfer. Specifically: 1. **Evaluate the ability of the COSMO-RS-ES model to predict salt solubility in mixed solvent systems**: - The study found that the model can accurately predict the solid-liquid equilibria of ammonium salts and alkali metal salts in various solvent mixtures at 25°C. - By introducing Gibbs free energy data of single ion transfer, the model's performance was further improved, and for the first time, ion-specific evaluation of the model was achieved. 2. **Introduce a new data type—Gibbs free energies of ion transfer to improve the model**: - When calculating solubility in some systems, large deviations were observed, but in most systems, the model provided good predictive results. - For cases lacking data, COSMO-RS-ES is a valuable tool, especially when other models requiring more parameters are difficult to apply. 3. **Validate the predictive ability of the COSMO-RS-ES model in high-concentration electrolyte systems**: - By evaluating the performance of the COSMO-RS-ES model on new data not included in the training set, its predictive ability in high-concentration electrolyte systems was validated. - Particularly in organic solvents and solvents with low dielectric constants, the model showed significant errors, indicating the need for further improvements to describe system behavior under these extreme conditions. 4. **Evaluate the COSMO-RS-ES model's ability to predict Gibbs free energies of ion transfer**: - By incorporating Gibbs free energy data of ion transfer into the training set, ion-specific evaluation of the model was achieved for the first time. - The results showed that the predictions for anions were relatively accurate, while the predictions for cations had significant deviations, indicating that the model still has deficiencies in describing the interactions between cations and organic solvents. In summary, this paper aims to improve the predictive accuracy of the COSMO-RS-ES model in electrolyte systems by introducing new data types and optimization strategies, particularly in the application of mixed solvent systems.
