Abstract:This paper generalizes Thompson and Hilbert metrics to the space of spectral densities. The resulting complete metric space has the differentiable structure of a Finsler manifold with explicit geodesics. The corresponding distances are filtering invariant, can be computed efficiently, and admit geodesic paths that preserve rationality; these are properties of fundamental importance in many engineering applications.

Abstract:In this paper, we first present some sufficient conditions for the upper semicontinuity and/or the continuity of the Bregman farthest-point map $Q_C^g$ and the relative farthest-point map $S_C^g$ for a nonempty $D$-maximally approximately compact subset $C$ of a Banach space $X$. We next present certain sufficient conditions as well as equivalent conditions for a Klee set to be singleton in a Banach space $X$. Our results extend and/or improve the corresponding ones of [Bauschke, et al., J. Approx. Theory, 158 (2009), pp. 170-183] to infinite dimensional spaces.

Abstract:We develop the barycenter technique of Besson--Courtois--Gallot so that it can be applied on RCD metric measure spaces. Given a continuous map $f$ from a non-collapsed RCD$(-(N-1),N)$ space $X$ without boundary to a locally symmetric $N$-manifold we show a version of BCG's entropy-volume inequality. The lower bound involves homological and homotopical indices which we introduce. We prove that when equality holds and these indices coincide $X$ is a locally symmetric manifold, and $f$ is homotopic to a Riemannian covering whose degree equals the indices. Moreover, we show a measured Gromov--Hausdorff stability of $X$ and $Y$ involving the homotopical invariant. As a byproduct, we extend a Lipschitz volume rigidity result of Li--Wang to RCD$(K,N)$ spaces without boundary. Finally, we include an application of these methods to the study of Einstein metrics on $4$-orbifolds.

Abstract:We present some sufficient conditions ensuring the upper semicontinuity and the continuity of the Bregman projection operator ΠCg and the relative projection operator PCg in terms of the D-approximate (weak) compactness for a nonempty closed set C in a Banach space X. We next present certain sufficient conditions as well as equivalent conditions for the convexity of a Chebyshev subset of a Banach space X. Our results extend the corresponding results of [H.H. Bauschke, X.F. Wang, J. Ye and X. M. Yuan, Bregman distances and Chebyshev sets, J. Approx. Theory 159 (2009) 3–25] to infinite dimensional spaces.
Gromov--Hausdorff Convergence of Spectral Truncations for Tori

Abstract:We consider operator systems associated to spectral truncations of tori. We show that their state spaces, when equipped with the Connes distance function, converge in the Gromov--Hausdorff sense to the space of all Borel probability measures on the torus equipped with the Monge--Kantorovich distance. A crucial role will be played by the relationship between Schur and Fourier multipliers. Along the way, we introduce the spectral Fejér kernel and show that it is a good kernel. This allows to make the estimates sufficient to prove the desired convergence of state spaces. We conclude with some structure analysis of the pertinent operator systems, including the C*-envelope and the propagation number, and with an observation about the dual operator system.

Abstract:Let $X=G/H$ be a reductive homogeneous space with $H$ noncompact, endowed with a $G$-invariant pseudo-Riemannian structure. Let $L$ be a reductive subgroup of $G$ acting properly on $X$ and $\Gamma$ a torsion-free discrete subgroup of $L$. Under the assumption that the complexification $X_{\mathbb C}$ is $L_{\mathbb C}$-spherical, we prove an explicit correspondence between spectral analysis on the standard locally homogeneous space $X_{\Gamma}=\Gamma\backslash X$ and on $\Gamma\backslash L$ via branching laws for the restriction to $L$ of irreducible representations of $G$. In particular, we prove that the pseudo-Riemannian Laplacian on $X_{\Gamma}$ is essentially self-adjoint, and that it admits an infinite point spectrum when $X_{\Gamma}$ is compact or $\Gamma\subset L$ is arithmetic. The proof builds on structural results for invariant differential operators on spherical homogeneous spaces with overgroups.

Spectral convergence of the Dirac operator on typical hyperbolic surfaces of high genus

Abstract:In this article, we study the Dirac spectrum of typical hyperbolic surfaces of finite area, equipped with a nontrivial spin structure (so that the Dirac spectrum is discrete). For random Weil-Petersson surfaces of large genus $g$ with $o(\sqrt{g})$ cusps, we prove convergence of the spectral density to the spectral density of the hyperbolic plane, with quantitative error estimates. This result implies upper bounds on spectral counting functions and multiplicities, as well as a uniform Weyl law, true for typical hyperbolic surfaces equipped with any nontrivial spin structure.

On the non-collapsed RCD spaces with local bounded covering geometry

Abstract:We consider a RCD$(-(N-1),N)$ space $(X,d,\mathcal{H}^N)$ with local bounded covering geometry. The first result is related to Gromov's almost flat manifold theorem. Specifically, if for every point $\tilde{p}$ in the universal cover $\widetilde{X}$, we have $\mathcal{H}^N(B_1(\tilde{p})) \ge v > 0$ and the diameter of $X$ is sufficiently small, then $X$ is biHölder homeomorphic to an infranil-manifold. Moreover, if $X$ is a smooth Riemannian $N$-manifold with $\mathrm{Ric} \ge -(N-1)$, then $X$ is biHölder diffeomorphic to an infranil-manifold. An application of our argument is to confirm the conjecture that Gromov's almost flat manifold theorem holds in the $\mathrm{RCD}+\mathrm{CBA}$ setting. The second result concerns a regular fibration theorem. Let $(X_i,d_i,\mathcal{H}^N)$ be a sequence of RCD$(-(N-1),N)$ spaces converging to a compact smooth $k$-dimensional manifold $K$ in the Gromov-Hausdorff sense. Assume that for any $p_i \in X_i$, the local universal cover is non-collapsing, i.e., for any pre-image point $\tilde{p}_i$ of $p_i$ in the universal cover of the ball $B_3(p_i)$, we have $\mathcal{H}^N(B_{1}(\tilde{p}_i)) \ge v$ for some fixed $v>0$. Then for sufficiently large $i$, there exists a fibration map $f_i:X_i \to K$, where the fiber is an infra-nilmanifold and the structure group is affine.

Convergence of cones of metric measure spaces and its application to Cauchy distribution

Abstract:We prove that the sequence of cones of metric measure spaces converges if the sequence of base spaces converges in Gromov's box, concentration, and weak topologies. As an application, we show that the generalized Cauchy distribution with suitable scaling converges to a half line in the concentration topology as the dimension diverges to infinity. This is a new example distinguished from previously known examples such as Gaussian distributions and typical closed Riemannian manifolds with constant Ricci curvature.

Abstract:The paper is concerned with the practical problem of how to compare power spectral densities of multivariable time-series. For scalar time-series several notions of distance (divergences) have been proposed and studied starting from the early 1970s while multivariable ones have only recently began to receive any attention. In the paper, two classes of divergence measures inspired by classical prediction theory are introduced. These divergences naturally induce Riemannian metrics on the cone of multivariable densities. The metrics amount to the quadratic term in the divergence between “infinitesimally close to each other” power spectra. For one of the two we provide explicit formulae for the corresponding geodesics and geodesic distance. A close connection between the geometry of power spectra and the geometry of the Fisher-Rao metric is noted.

Continuity of the Spectrum of Dirac Operators of Spectral Triples for the Spectral Propinquity

Abstract:The spectral propinquity is a distance, up to unitary equivalence, on the class of metric spectral triples. We prove in this paper that if a sequence of metric spectral triples converges for the propinquity, then the spectra of the Dirac operators for these triples do converge to the spectrum of the Dirac operator at the limit. We obtain this result by first proving that, in an appropriate sense induced by some natural metric, the bounded, continuous functional calculi defined by the Dirac operators also converge. As an application of our work, we see, in particular, that action functionals of a wide class of metric spectral triples are continuous for the spectral propinquity, which clearly connects convergence for the spectral propinquity with the applications of noncommutative geometry to mathematical physics. This fact is a consequence of results on the continuity of the multiplicity of eigenvalues of Dirac operators. In particular, we formalize convergence of adjoinable operators of different C*-correspondences, endowed with appropriate quantum metric data.

Abstract:Inspired by a result in T. H. Colding. (16). Acta. Math.209(2) (2012), 229-263 [16] of Colding, the present paper studies the Green function on a non-parabolic space for some finite . Defining for a point , which plays a role of a smoothed distance function from , we prove that the gradient has the canonical pointwise representative with the sharp upper bound in terms of the -volume density of at ; Moreover the rigidity is obtained, namely, the upper bound is attained at a point if and only if the space is isomorphic to the -metric measure cone over an space. In the case when is an -regular point, the rigidity states an isomorphism to the -dimensional Euclidean space , thus, this extends the result of Colding to spaces. It is emphasized that the almost rigidities are also proved, which are new even in the smooth framework.

Abstract:In this paper, we study regular sets in metric measure spaces with bounded Ricci curvature. We prove that the existence of a point in the regular set of the highest dimension implies the positivity of the measure of such regular set. Also we define thee dimension of metric measure spaces and prove the lower semicontinuity of that under the Gromov-Hausdorff convergence.

Abstract:We prove that if an RCD space has a regular isometric immersion in a Euclidean space, then the immersion is a locally bi-Lipschitz embedding map. This result leads us to prove that if a compact non-collapsed RCD space has an isometric immersion in a Euclidean space via an eigenmap, then the eigenmap is a locally bi-Lipschitz embedding map to a sphere, which generalizes a fundamental theorem of Takahashi in submanifold theory to a non-smooth setting. Applications of these results include a topological sphere theorem and topological finiteness theorems, which are new even for closed Riemannian manifolds.

Spectrality of a class of infinite convolutions with and without compact supports in $\mathbb{R}^d$

Abstract:Generalizing a result given by Li, Miao and Wang in 2022, we study the spectrality of a class of infinite convolutions in $\mathbb{R}^d$ generated by sequences of nearly $d$-th power lattices. This allows us to easily construct spectral measures with and without compact supports in $\mathbb{R}^d$. According to a result on the relation between supports of infinite convolutions and sets of infinite sums, we systematically study the Hausdorff and packing dimensions of infinite sums of finite sets in $\mathbb{R}^d$. As an application, we give concrete formulae for the Hausdorff and packing dimensions of the supports of a class of spectral measures in $\mathbb{R}^d$ with the form of infinite convolutions generated by specific sequences of nearly $d$-th power lattices, and finally we deduce that there are spectral measures with and without compact supports of arbitrary Hausdorff and packing dimensions in $\mathbb{R}^d$.

Abstract:We prove pointwise and $L^{p}$-gradient comparison results for solutions to elliptic Dirichlet problems defined on open subsets of a (possibly non-smooth) space with positive Ricci curvature (more precisely of an $\mathrm{RCD}(K,N)$ metric measure space, with $K>0$ and $N\in (1,\infty)$). The obtained Talenti-type comparison is sharp, rigid and stable with respect to $L^{2}$/measured-Gromov-Hausdorff topology; moreover, several aspects seem new even for smooth Riemannian manifolds. As applications of such Talenti-type comparison, we prove a series of improved Sobolev-type inequalities, and an $\mathrm{RCD}$ version of the St.~Venant-Pólya torsional rigidity comparison theorem (with associated rigidity and stability statements). Finally, we give a probabilistic interpretation (in the setting of smooth Riemannian manifolds) of the aforementioned comparison results, in terms of exit time from an open subset for the Brownian motion.

Abstract:We show that the noncommutative differential geometry of quantum projective spaces is compatible with Rieffel's theory of compact quantum metric spaces. This amounts to a detailed investigation of the Connes metric coming from the unital spectral triple introduced by D'Andrea and Dabrowski. In particular, we establish that the Connes metric metrizes the weak-* topology on the state space of quantum projective space. This generalizes previous work by the second author and Aguilar regarding spectral metrics on the standard Podles spheres.
