Abstract:We extend the map Exp for elliptic curves in short Weierstrass form over $ \mathbb{C} $ to Edwards curves over local fields. Subsequently, we compute the map Exp for Edwards curves over the local field $ \mathbb{Q}_{p} $ of $ p $-adic numbers.

Abstract:Let $\mathbb{F}_q$ be a finite field with $q$ elements. For $a,b,c,d,e,f \in \mathbb{F}_q^{\times}$, denote by $C_{a,b,c,d,e,f}$ the family of algebraic curves over $\mathbb{F}_q$ given by the affine equation \begin{align*} C_{a,b,c,d,e,f}:ay^2+bx^2+cxy=d+ex^2y^2+fx^3y. \end{align*} The family of generalized twisted Edwards curves is a subfamily of $C_{a,b,c,d,e,f}$. Let $\#C_{a,b,c,d,e,f}(\mathbb{F}_q)$ denote the number of points on $C_{a,b,c,d,e,f}$ over $\mathbb{F}_q$. In this article, we find certain expressions for $\#C_{a,b,c,d,e,f}(\mathbb{F}_q)$ when $af=ce$. If $c^2-4ab\neq 0$, we express $\#C_{a,b,c,d,e,f}(\mathbb{F}_q)$ in terms of a $p$-adic hypergeometric function $\mathbb{G}(x)$ whose values are explicitly known for all $x\in \mathbb{F}_q$. Next, if $c^2-4ab=0$, we express $\#C_{a,b,c,d,e,f}(\mathbb{F}_q)$ in terms of another $p$-adic hypergeometric function and then relate it to the traces of Frobenius endomorphisms of a family of elliptic curves. Furthermore, using the known values of the hypergeometric functions, we deduce some nice formulas for $\#C_{a,b,c,d,e,f}(\mathbb{F}_q)$.

Abstract:The Discrete Logarithm Problem (DLP) for elliptic curves has been extensively studied since, for instance, it is the core of the security of cryptosystems like Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC). In this paper, we present an attack to the DLP for elliptic curves based on its connection to the problem of lifting, by using the exponential map for elliptic curves and its inverse over $ \mathbb{Z} / p^k \mathbb{Z} $. Additionally, we show that hyperelliptic curves are resistant to this attack, meaning that these latter curves offer a higher level of security compared to the classic elliptic curves used in cryptography.

Abstract:It is well known that any power series over a finite field represents a rational function if and only if its sequence of coefficients is ultimately periodic. The famous Christol's Theorem states that a power series over a finite field is algebraic if and only if its sequence of coefficients is $p$-automatic. In this paper, we extend these two results to expansions of elements in the completion of a global function field under a nontrivial valuation. As application of our generalization of Christol's theorem, we answer some questions about $\beta$-expansions of formal Laurent series over finite fields.

Hecke operators and analytic Langlands correspondence for curves over local fields

Abstract:We construct analogues of the Hecke operators for the moduli space of G-bundles on a curve X over a local field F with parabolic structures at finitely many points. We conjecture that they define commuting compact normal operators on the Hilbert space of half-densities on this moduli space. In the case F=C, we also conjecture that their joint spectrum is in a natural bijection with the set of opers on X for the Langlands dual group with real monodromy. This may be viewed as an analytic version of the Langlands correspondence for complex curves. Furthermore, we conjecture an explicit formula relating the eigenvalues of the Hecke operators and the global differential operators studied in our previous paper <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1908.09677" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1908.09677">arXiv:1908.09677</a>. Assuming the compactness conjecture, this formula follows from a certain system of differential equations satisfied by the Hecke operators, which we prove in this paper for G=PGL(n).

Refinement of miller's algorithm over edwards curves

Abstract:Edwards gave a new form of elliptic curves in [1], and these curves were introduced to cryptography by Bernstein and Lange in [2]. The Edwards curves enjoy faster addition and doubling operations, so they are very attractive for elliptic curve cryptography. In 2006, Blake, Murty and Xu proposed three refinements to Millers algorithm for computing Weil/Tate pairings over Weierstraß curves. In this paper we extend their method to Edwards curve and propose a faster algorithm for computing pairings with Edwards coordinates, which comes from the analysis of divisors of rational functions.

Abstract:Two fields are Witt equivalent if their Witt rings of symmetric bilinear forms are isomorphic. Witt equivalent fields can be understood to be fields having the same quadratic form theory. The behavior of finite fields, local fields, global fields, as well as function fields of curves defined over Archimedean local fields under Witt equivalence is well understood. Numbers of classes of Witt equivalent fields with finite numbers of square classes are also known in some cases. Witt equivalence of general function fields over global fields was studied in the earlier work [13] by the authors and applied to study Witt equivalence of function fields of curves over global fields. In this paper, we extend these results to local case, i.e. we discuss Witt equivalence of function fields of curves over local fields. As an application, we show that, modulo some additional assumptions, Witt equivalence of two such function fields implies Witt equivalence of underlying local fields.

For superelliptic curves of the form yn=f(x) at primes p whose residue characteristic is prime to the exponent n we make this explicit.

Degrees of points on varieties over Henselian fields

Abstract:Let $W/K$ be a nonempty scheme over the field of fractions of a Henselian local ring $R$. A result of Gabber, Liu and Lorenzini shows that the GCD of the set of degrees of closed points on $W$ (which is called the index of $W/K$) can be computed from data pertaining only to the special fiber of a proper regular model of $W$ over $R$. We show that the entire set of degrees of closed points on $W$ can be computed from data pertaining only to the special fiber, provided the special fiber is a strict normal crossings divisor. As a consequence we obtain an algorithm to compute the degree set of any smooth curve over a Henselian field with finite or algebraically closed residue field. Using this we show that degree sets of curves over such fields can be dramatically different than degree sets of curves over finitely generated fields. For example, while the degree set of a curve over a finitely generated field contains all sufficiently large multiples of the index, there are curves over $p$-adic fields with index $1$ whose degree set excludes all integers that are coprime to $6$.

Abstract:In this paper and its sequel we consider locally-free $\mathscr{O}_X$-modules together with a connection over a quasi-smooth Berkovich curve $X$. We obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for the finite dimensionality of their de Rham cohomology over local domains such as disks and annuli. We deal with both analytic and meromorphic connections and we derive index formulas relating the index to the behavior of the radii of convergence of their solutions at the boundary of the curve $X$. We introduce the notion of absolute local index. We prove that it is an intrinsic notion extending the previous notions of Robba's generalized index and that of $p$-adic exponents. This condition arises at the boundary of the curve $X$ and it is an exact condition for the finite dimensionality of the de Rham cohomology. We derive comparison results between formal, meromorphic and analytic de Rham cohomologies.

Abstract:We prove a strong form of model completenes for expansions of the field of real numbers by (the real and imaginary parts of) the modular function J, by the modular forms $E_4$ and $E_6$ and quasimodular form $E_2$ defined in the usual fundamental domain, and the restricted sine function and the (unrestricted) exponential function. This is done using ideas of Peterzil and Starchenko's paper \cite{peterzil-starchenko-wp2004} on the uniform definability of $\wp$ function in $\mathbb{R}_{\mathit{an}}$ (and of the modular function $J$). In the conclusion we pose some open problems related to this work.

Abstract:Let $E$ be an elliptic curve over $\mathbb{Q}$. Greenberg has posed a question whether the structure of the fine Selmer group over the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $\mathbb{Q}$ can be described by cyclotomic polynomials in a certain precise manner. A recent work of Lei has made progress on this problem by proving that the fine Mordell-Weil group (in the sense of Wuthrich) does have this required property. The goal of this paper is study the analogous question of Greenberg over various $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extensions of an imaginary quadratic field $F$. In particular, when the elliptic curve has complex multiplication by the ring of integers of the imaginary quadratic field, we obtain analogous results of Lei over the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension and anti-cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $F$. In the event that the elliptic curve has good ordinary reduction at the prime $p$, we further obtain a result over the $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $F$ unramified outside precisely one of the prime of $F$ above $p$. Finally, we study the situation of an elliptic curve over the anticyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension under the generalized Heegner hypothesis. Along the way, we establish an analogous result for the BDP-Selmer group. This latter result is then applied to obtain a relation between the BDP $p$-adic $L$-function and the Mordell-Weil rank growth in the anticyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension which may be of independent interest.

Arithmetic rank bounds for abelian varieties over function fields

Abstract:It follows from the Grothendieck-Ogg-Shafarevich formula that the rank of an abelian variety (with trivial trace) defined over the function field of a curve is bounded by a quantity which depends on the genus of the base curve and on bad reduction data. Using a function field version of classical $\ell$-descent techniques, we derive an arithmetic refinement of this bound, extending previous work of the second and third authors from elliptic curves to abelian varieties, and improving on their result in the case of elliptic curves. When the abelian variety is the Jacobian of a hyperelliptic curve, we produce a more explicit $2$-descent map. Then we apply this machinery to studying points on the Jacobians of certain genus $2$ curves over $k(t)$, where $k$ is some perfect base field of characteristic not $2$.

Local character expansions and asymptotic cones over finite fields

Abstract:We generalise Gelfand-Graev characters to $\mathbb R/\mathbb Z$-graded Lie algebras and lift them to produce new test functions to probe the local character expansion in positive depth. We show that these test functions are well adapted to compute the leading terms of the local character expansion and relate their determination to the asymptotic cone of elements in $\mathbb Z/n$-graded Lie algebras. As an illustration, we compute the geometric wave front set of certain toral supercuspidal representations in a straightforward manner.

As applications we give algorithms to determine the minimal field of definition of such a variety and to determine whether two such varieties are twists.

Abstract:Let $E$ be an elliptic curve defined over $\mathbb{Q}$ with conductor $N$ and $p\nmid 2N$ a prime. Let $L$ be an imaginary quadratic field with $p$ split. We prove the existence of $p$-adic zeta element for $E$ over $L$, encoding two different $p$-adic $L$-functions associated to $E$ over $L$ via explicit reciprocity laws at the primes above $p$. We formulate a main conjecture for $E$ over $L$ in terms of the zeta element, mediating different main conjectures in which the $p$-adic $L$-functions appear, and prove some results toward them. The zeta element has various applications to the arithmetic of elliptic curves. This includes a proof of main conjecture for semistable elliptic curves $E$ over $\mathbb{Q}$ at supersingular primes $p$, as conjectured by Kobayashi in 2002. It leads to the $p$-part of the conjectural Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer (BSD) formula for such curves of analytic rank zero or one, and enables us to present the first infinite families of non-CM elliptic curves for which the BSD conjecture is true. We provide further evidence towards the BSD conjecture: new cases of $p$-converse to the Gross--Zagier and Kolyvagin theorem, and $p$-part of the BSD formula for ordinary primes $p$. Along the way, we give a proof of a conjecture of Perrin-Riou connecting Beilinson--Kato elements with rational points.

Abstract:Let $E$ be an elliptic curve, $\mathcal{K}_1$ its Kummer curve $E/\{\pm1\}$, $E^2$ its square product, and $\mathcal{K}_2$ the split Kummer surface $E^2/\{\pm1\}$. The addition law on $E^2$ gives a large endomorphism ring, which induce endomorphisms of $\mathcal{K}_2$. With a view to the practical applications to scalar multiplication on $\mathcal{K}_1$, we study the explicit arithmetic of $\mathcal{K}_2$.

Abstract:We construct a derived variant of Emerton's eigenvarieties using the locally analytic representation theory of $p$-adic groups. The main innovations include comparison and exploitation of two homotopy equivalent completed complexes associated to the locally symmetric spaces of a quasi-split reductive group $\mathbb{G}$, comparison to overconvergent cohomology, proving exactness of finite slope part functor, together with some representation-theoretic statements. As a global application, we exhibit an eigenvariety coming from data of $\mathrm{GL}_n$ over a CM field as a subeigenvariety for a quasi-split unitary group.

Abstract:Colmez, Dospinescu and Niziol have shown that the only $p$-adic representations of $\rm{Gal}(\bar{\mathbb{Q}}_p/\mathbb{Q}_p)$ appearing in the $p$-adic étale cohomology of the coverings of Drinfeld's half-plane are the $2$-dimensional cuspidal representations (i.e. potentially semi-stable, whose associated Weil-Deligne representation is irreducible) with Hodge-Tate weights $0$ and $1$ and their multiplicities are given by the $p$-adic Langlands correspondence. We generalise this result to arbitrary weights, by considering the $p$-adic étale cohomology with coefficients in the symmetric powers of the universal local system on Drinfeld's tower. A novelty is the appearance of potentially semistable $2$-dimensional non-cristabelian representations, with expected multiplicity. The key point is that the local systems we consider turn out to be particularly simple: they are "isotrivial opers" on a curve. We develop a recipe to compute the proétale cohomology of such a local system using the Hyodo-Kato cohomology of the curve and the de Rham complex of the flat filtered bundle associated to the local system.
