Abstract:In this paper, for a field $k$ of characteristic zero and a finitely generated $k$-algebra $R$, we give a set of generators for the image ideals of irreducible nice and quasi-nice $R$-derivations on the polynomial ring $R[X,Y]$, where $R$ is a UFD.

The main result of this paper determines NilD of the monomial derivations D on R[x,y] . Furthermore, as its application, we prove that, for each positive integer m , there exists a monomial R -derivation with a slice on R[x,y,z] such that the minimal number of generators of its kernel equals m .

Abstract:In this article we show that for every prime number $p$, any irreducible homogeneous locally nilpotent derivations of rank $2$ and degree $p-2$ are triangularizable. Further, we describe the structure of irreducible non-triangularizable homogeneous locally nilpotent derivations of rank $2$ and degree $pq-2$, where $p,q$ are prime numbers. Consequently, we give explicit descriptions of the generators of the image ideals of certain homogeneous locally nilpotent derivations of rank $2$.

Semi-Invariant Rings: UFD and Codimension One Orbits

Abstract:Let $A$ be a finite dimensional associative $\mathbb{K}$-algebra over an algebraically closed field $\mathbb{K}$ of characteristic zero. To $A$, we can associate its basic form that is given by a quiver $Q = (Q_0, Q_1)$ with an admissible ideal $R$. For a dimension vector $\beta$, we consider an irreducible component $\mathcal{C}$ of the module variety of $\beta$-dimensional representations of $A$. The reductive group ${\rm GL}_\beta(\mathbb{K}):= \prod_{i \in Q_0}{\rm GL}_{\beta_i}(\mathbb{K})$ acts on $\mathcal{C}$ by change of basis, and has a unique closed orbit. We consider the corresponding ring of semi-invariants ${\rm SI}(Q, \mathcal{C})$. We prove that if $\mathcal{C}$ is factorial and has maximal orbits of codimension one, then ${\rm SI}(Q, \mathcal{C})$ is a complete intersection and is not multiplicity free. If $\mathcal{C}$ is not factorial, then this conclusion does not necessarily hold. We present examples showing that the codimension of the complete intersection can be arbitrarily large. Finally, we interpret our results in the case of hereditary algebras.

Abstract:We study the LND conjecture concerning the images of locally nilpotent derivations, which arose from the Jacobian conjecture. Let R be a domain containing a field of characteristic zero. We prove that, when R is a one-dimensional unique factorization domain, the image of any locally nilpotent R -derivation of the bivariate polynomial algebra R [ x , y ] is a Mathieu-Zhao subspace. Moreover, we prove that, when R is a Dedekind domain, the image of a locally nilpotent R -derivation of R [ x , y ] with some additional conditions is a Mathieu-Zhao subspace.

Abstract:Let $R$ denote a Noetherian ring and an ideal $J \subset R$ with $U = \operatorname{Spec R} \setminus V(J)$. For an $R$-module $M$ there is an isomorphism $\Gamma(U, \tilde{M}) \cong \varinjlim \operatorname{Hom}_R(J^n,M)$ known as Deligne's formula (see [R. Hartshorne: Algebraic Geometry, Springer, 1983] and Deligne's Appendix in [R. Hartshorne: Residues and Duality, Lecture Notes in Math. 20, Springer,1966] ). We extend the isomorphism for any $R$-module $M$ in the non-Noetherian case of $R$ and $J = (x_1,\ldots,x_k)$ a certain finitely generated ideal. Moreover, we recall a corresponding sheaf construction.

Twisted Derivations in Algebraic Number Fields

Abstract:Let $A$ be a commutative ring with unity and $B = A[\theta]$ be an integral extension of $A$. Assume that $B$ is an integral domain with quotient field $\mathbb{K}$ and $\mathbb{E}$ is the minimal splitting field of $\theta$ over $\mathbb{K}$. Suppose $\sigma, \tau: B \rightarrow \mathbb{E}$ are two different ring homomorphisms that fix $A$ element-wise. In this article, we classify all $A$-linear maps $D: B \rightarrow \mathbb{E}$ which are $(\sigma, \tau)$-derivations. Consequently, we classify all $(\sigma, \tau)$-derivations in certain field extensions, algebraic number fields, and their ring of algebraic integers. For the ring of algebraic integers, $O_{\mathbb{K}} = \mathbb{Z}[\zeta]$ of the cyclotomic number field $\mathbb{K} = \mathbb{Q}(\zeta)$ ($\zeta$ an $n^{\text{th}}$ primitive root of unity), and a pair $(\sigma, \tau)$ of two different $\mathbb{Z}$-algebra endomorphisms of $O_{\mathbb{K}}$, we conjecture a necessary and sufficient condition for a $(\sigma, \tau)$-derivation $D:O_{\mathbb{K}} \rightarrow O_{\mathbb{K}}$ to be inner. This is done for two different forms of $n$: (i) $n = 2^{r}p$ ($r \in \mathbb{N}$ and $p$ an odd rational prime), and (ii) $n=p^{k}$ ($k \in \mathbb{N}$ and $p$ any rational prime). We also conjecture the existence and non-existence of non-zero outer derivations for the above two forms of $n$, thus answering the twisted derivation problem in $O_{\mathbb{K}}$.

On real one-sided ideals in a free algebra

Abstract:In classical and real algebraic geometry there are several notions of the radical of an ideal I. There is the vanishing radical defined as the set of all real polynomials vanishing on the real zero set of I, and the real radical defined as the smallest real ideal containing I. By the real Nullstellensatz they coincide. This paper focuses on extensions of these to the free algebra R<x,x^*> of noncommutative real polynomials in x=(x_1,...,x_g) and x^*=(x_1^*,...,x_g^*). We work with a natural notion of the (noncommutative real) zero set V(I) of a left ideal I in the free algebra. The vanishing radical of I is the set of all noncommutative polynomials p which vanish on V(I). In this paper our quest is to find classes of left ideals I which coincide with their vanishing radical. We completely succeed for monomial ideals and homogeneous principal ideals. We also present the case of principal univariate ideals with a degree two generator and find that it is very messy. Also we give an algorithm (running under NCAlgebra) which checks if a left ideal is radical or is not, and illustrate how one uses our implementation of it.

Abstract:Let $A$ be a finitary algebra over a finite field $k$, and $A$-$mod$ the category of finite dimensional left $A$-modules. Let $\mathcal{H}(A)$ be the corresponding Hall algebra, and for a positive integer $r$ let $D_{r}(A)$ be the subspace of $\mathcal{H}(A)$ which has a basis consisting of isomorphism classes of modules in $A$-$mod$ with at least $r+1$ indecomposable direct summands. If $A$ is hereditary of type $A_{n}$, then $D_{r}(A)$ is known to be the kernel of the map from the twisted Hall algebra to the quantized Schur algebra indexed by $n+1$ and $r$. For any $A$, we determine necessary and sufficient conditions for $D_{r}(A)$ to be an ideal and some conditions for $D_{r}(A)$ to be a subring of $\mathcal{H}(A)$. For $A$ the path algebra of a quiver, we also determine necessary and sufficient conditions for $D_{r}(A)$ to be a subring of $\mathcal{H}(A)$.

Abstract:We consider the polynomial ring in finitely many variables over an algebraically closed field of positive characteristic, and initiate the systematic study of ideals preserved by the action of the general linear group by changes of coordinates. We show that these ideals are classified by sets of carry patterns, which are finite sequences of integers introduced by Doty in the study of representation theory of the polynomial ring. We provide an algorithm to decompose an invariant ideal as a sum of carry ideals with no redundancies. Next, we study the conditions under which one carry ideal is contained in another, and completely characterize the image of the multiplication map between the space of linear forms and a subrepresentation of forms of degree d. Finally, we begin an investigation into free resolutions of these ideals. Our results are most explicit in the case of carry ideals in two variables, where we completely describe the monomial generators and syzygies using base-p expansions of the parameters involved, and we provide a formula for the structure of the Tor modules in the Grothendieck group of representations.

Abstract:Let $\A$ be a $\k$-algebra where $\k$ a field of arbitrary characteristic, and let $\mathscr{A}_\k$ be a full subcategory of $\A$-Mod, the abelian category of left $\A$-modules.Following M. Kleiner and I. Reiten, $\mathscr{A}_\k$ is {\it Hom-finite} if the hom-space between any two objects in $\mathscr{A}_\k$ is finite-dimensional over $\k$. We further say that $\mathscr{A}_\k$ is {\it Ext-finite} if $\dim_\k\Ext^i_\A(X,Y)<\infty$ for all objects $X$ and $Y$ in $\mathscr{A}_\k$. Let $V$ be an object in $\mathscr{A}_\k$. In this note we prove that if $\End_\A(V)$ is isomorphic to $\k$, then $V$ has a universal deformation ring $R(\A,V)$, which is a local complete Noetherian commutative $\k$-algebra whose residue field is also isomorphic to $\k$. We use this result to prove that if $\A$ is a local two-point infinite dimensional gentle $\k$-algebra (in the sense of V. Bekkert et al), then $R(\A,V)$ is isomorphic either to $\k$, to $\k[\![t]\!]/(t^2)$ or to $\k[\![t]\!]$.

Abstract:We obtain several fundamental results on finite index ideals and additive subgroups of rings as well as on model-theoretic connected components of rings, which concern generating in finitely many steps inside additive groups of rings.Let R be any ring equipped with an arbitrary additional first order structure, and A a set of parameters. We show that whenever H is an A-definable, finite index subgroup of (R,+), then H+R⋅H contains an A-definable, two-sided ideal of finite index. As a corollary, we obtain a positive answer to Question 4.9 of [4]: if R is unital, then (R¯,+)A00+R¯⋅(R¯,+)A00+R¯⋅(R¯,+)A00=R¯A00, which also implies that R¯A00=R¯A000, where R¯≻R is a sufficiently saturated elementary extension of R, (R¯,+)A00 [resp. R¯A00] denotes the smallest A-type-definable, bounded index additive subgroup [resp. ideal] of R¯, and R¯A000 is the smallest invariant over A, bounded index ideal of R¯. If R is of positive characteristic (not necessarily unital), we get a sharper result: (R¯,+)A00+R¯⋅(R¯,+)A00=R¯A00. We obtain a similar result (but with more steps required) for finitely generated (not necessarily unital) rings. We obtain analogous results for topological rings. The above result for unital rings implies that the simplified descriptions of the definable (and so also classical) Bohr compactifications of triangular groups over unital rings obtained in Corollary 4.5 of [4] are valid for all unital rings.We also analyze many concrete examples, where we compute the number of steps needed to generate a group by (R¯∪{1})⋅(R¯,+)A00 and study related aspects, showing "optimality" of some of our main results and yielding answers to some natural questions.

Algorithms for computing norms and characteristic polynomials on general Drinfeld modules

Abstract:We provide two families of algorithms to compute characteristic polynomials of endomorphisms and norms of isogenies of Drinfeld modules. Our algorithms work for Drinfeld modules of any rank, defined over any base curve. When the base curve is $\mathbb P^1_{\mathbb F_q}$, we do a thorough study of the complexity, demonstrating that our algorithms are, in many cases, the most asymptotically performant. The first family of algorithms relies on the correspondence between Drinfeld modules and Anderson motives, reducing the computation to linear algebra over a polynomial ring. The second family, available only for the Frobenius endomorphism, is based on a formula expressing the characteristic polynomial of the Frobenius as a reduced norm in a central simple algebra.
