Abstract:Two-dimensional Dirac semimetals with a single massless Dirac cone exhibit the parity anomaly. Usually, such a kind of anomalous topological semimetallic phase in real materials is unstable where any amount of disorder can drive it into a diffusive metal and destroy the half-integer quantized Hall conductivity as an indicator of parity anomaly. Here, based on low-energy effective model, we propose an anisotropic Dirac semimetal which explicitly breaks time-reversal symmetry and carries a half-integer quantized Hall conductivity. This topological semimetallic phase can be realized on a deformed honeycomb lattice subjected to a magnetic flux. Moreover, we perceptively investigate the disorder correction to the Hall conductivity. The results show that the effects of disorder can be strongly suppressed and thereby the nearly half-integer quantization of Hall conductivity can exist in a wide region of disorder, indicating that our proposed anisotropic Dirac semimetal is an exciting platform to investigate the parity anomaly phenomena.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The main problem that this paper attempts to solve is to explore the stability of anisotropic Dirac semimetals with odd - half - integer - quantized Hall conductivity in the presence of disorder. Specifically: 1. **Problem Background**: - A single massless Dirac cone in 2D Dirac semimetals can exhibit a parity anomaly, which is characterized by a half - integer - quantized Hall conductivity \(\sigma_{xy}=\frac{e^{2}}{2h}\). - In real materials, this topological phase is usually unstable. Any slight disorder will drive it to a diffusive metallic state and destroy the half - integer - quantized Hall conductivity. 2. **Research Objectives**: - Propose a new anisotropic Dirac semimetal model that explicitly breaks time - reversal symmetry and carries a half - integer - quantized Hall conductivity. - Study the effect of disorder on the Hall conductivity, especially how to suppress the disorder effect so that the half - integer - quantized Hall conductivity remains stable over a wide range of disorder. 3. **Solutions**: - Construct a low - energy effective model that describes the anisotropic Dirac semimetal realized on a deformed honeycomb lattice. - Use the Kubo - Streda formula to derive the correction term \(\delta\sigma_{xy}\) of disorder on the Hall conductivity and analyze how these correction terms affect the topological properties of the system. - Discover that by controlling the anisotropy of the lattice, the effects of disorder and other random fluctuations can be minimized, so that the Hall conductivity is close to half - quantization over a wide range of disorder. 4. **Main Conclusions**: - The results show that the proposed anisotropic Dirac semimetal can maintain an approximate half - integer - quantized Hall conductivity over a wide range of disorder, which provides a promising platform for studying the chiral anomaly phenomenon. In summary, this paper aims to propose a new anisotropic Dirac semimetal model and, through theoretical calculations and analysis, demonstrates the stability of this model in the presence of disorder, providing a theoretical basis for further experimental verification.
