Abstract:We prove the Poisson version of the Gromov-Eliashberg's $C^0$-rigidity. More precisely, we prove that the group of Poisson diffeomorphisms is closed with respect to the $C^0$ topology inside the group of all diffeomorphisms. The proof relies on the Poisson version of the energy-capacity inequality.

Abstract:This paper studies some $C^0-$aspects of the action of the identity component (w.r.t the $C^\infty-$compact open topology) $Diff^\Omega_0(M) $ in the group of volume-preserving diffeomorphisms on the space $\mathcal Z^1(M)$ of all closed $1-$forms of a compact connected oriented manifold $(M, \Omega)$, and use this to improve the volume-capacity-inequality. We recover that when $M$ is closed, the group $Diff^\Omega_0(M) $ is $C^0-$closed in the identity component of the group of all diffeomorphisms of $M$. In the context of $C^0-$symplectic geometry, when $M$ is Lefschetz, we prove the $C^0-$flux conjecture, and show that the commutator subgroup $[SSympeo(M, \omega), SSympeo(M, \omega)]$ coincides with $[Hameo(M,\omega), Hameo(M,\omega)]$.

Abstract:Our main result is the $\mathcal{C}^0$-rigidity of the area spectrum and the Maslov class of Lagrangian submanifolds. This relies on the existence of punctured pseudoholomorphic discs in cotangent bundles with boundary on the zero section, whose boundaries represent any integral homology class. We discuss further applications of these punctured discs in symplectic geometry.
On the rigidity of Ricci shrinkers

Abstract:In this paper, we establish the rigidity of the generalized cylinder $N^n \times \mathbb R^{m-n}$, or a quotient thereof, in the space of Ricci shrinkers equipped with the pointed-Gromov-Hausdorff topology. Here, $N$ is a stable Einstein manifold that has an obstruction of order $3$. The proof is based on a quantitative characterization of the rigidity of compact Ricci shrinkers, a rigidity inequality of mixed orders on generalized cylinders, and the method of contraction and extension. As an application, we prove the uniqueness of the tangent flow for general compact Ricci flows under the assumption that one tangent flow is a generalized cylinder.

Abstract:Rigidity of the Poisson bracket with respect to the uniform norm is one of the central phenomena discovered within function theory on symplectic manifolds. In the present work we examine the case of $L_p$ norms with $p < \infty$. We show that $L_p $ - Poisson bracket invariants exhibit rigid behavior in dimension two, and we provide an evidence for their flexibility in higher dimensions.

Some rigidity results for polynomial automorphisms of C^2

Abstract:We prove several new rigidity results for polynomial automorphisms of $\mathbb C^2$ with positive entropy. A first result is that a complex slice of the (forward or backward) Julia set is never a smooth, or even rectifiable, curve. We also show that such an automorphism cannot preserve a global holomorphic foliation, nor a real-analytic foliation with complex leaves. These results are used to show that under mild assumptions, two real-analytically conjugate automorphisms are polynomially conjugate. For mappings defined over a number field, we also study the fields of definition of multipliers of saddle periodic orbits.

Global Weak Rigidity of the Gauss–Codazzi–Ricci Equations and Isometric Immersions of Riemannian Manifolds with Lower Regularity

Abstract:We are concerned with the global weak rigidity of the Gauss–Codazzi–Ricci (GCR) equations on Riemannian manifolds and the corresponding isometric immersions of Riemannian manifolds into the Euclidean spaces. We develop a unified intrinsic approach to establish the global weak rigidity of both the GCR equations and isometric immersions of the Riemannian manifolds, independent of the local coordinates, and provide further insights of the previous local results and arguments. The critical case has also been analyzed. To achieve this, we first reformulate the GCR equations with div-curl structure intrinsically on Riemannian manifolds and develop a global, intrinsic version of the div-curl lemma and other nonlinear techniques to tackle the global weak rigidity on manifolds. In particular, a general functional-analytic compensated compactness theorem on Banach spaces has been established, which includes the intrinsic div-curl lemma on Riemannian manifolds as a special case. The equivalence of global isometric immersions, the Cartan formalism, and the GCR equations on the Riemannian manifolds with lower regularity is established. We also prove a new weak rigidity result along the way, pertaining to the Cartan formalism, for Riemannian manifolds with lower regularity, and extend the weak rigidity results for Riemannian manifolds with corresponding different metrics.

Abstract:In this note we prove three rigidity results for Einstein manifolds with bounded covering geometry. (1) An almost flat manifold $(M,g)$ must be flat if it is Einstein, i.e. $\operatorname{Ric}_g=\lambda g$ for some real number $\lambda$. (2) A compact Einstein manifolds with a non-vanishing and almost maximal volume entropy is hyperbolic. (3) A compact Einstein manifold admitting a uniform local rewinding almost maximal volume is isometric to a space form.

Abstract:Let $(\Omega^{n+1},g)$ be an $(n + 1)$-dimensional smooth compact connected Riemannian manifold with smooth boundary $\partial\Omega=\Sigma$ and $f$ a smooth function on $\Omega$ which satisfies the Obata type equation $\nabla^2 f -fg =0$ with Robin boundary condition $f_{\nu} = cf$, where $c=\coth{\theta}>1$. In this paper, we consider the rigidity of $\Omega$. First, we derive the warped product structure of $\Omega$ by the properties of the Obata type equation and the set $\Omega_0=\{x\in \Omega ~|~ f(x)=0\}$. Second, we determine the specific structure of $\Omega_0$ under appropriate curvature assumptions and provide the structure of $\Omega$ accordingly.

Abstract:In this paper, we first establish an S 1 S^1 -equivariant index theorem for Spin c ^c Dirac operators on Z / k \mathbb {Z}/k manifolds, and then combining this equivariant index theorem with the methods developed by Liu-Ma-Zhang and Taubes, we extend Witten’s rigidity theorem to the case of Z / k \mathbb {Z}/k Spin c ^c manifolds. Among others, our results resolve a conjecture of Devoto.

Abstract:We study coisotropic deformations of a compact regular coisotropic submanifold $C$ in a contact manifold $(M,\xi)$. Our main result states that $C$ is rigid among nearby coisotropic submanifolds whose characteristic foliation is diffeomorphic to that of $C$. When combined with a classical rigidity result for foliations, this yields conditions under which $C$ is rigid among all nearby coisotropic submanifolds.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a natural notion of constant curvature Lorentzian surfaces with conical singularities, and provide a large class of examples of such structures. We moreover initiate the study of their global rigidity, by proving that de-Sitter tori with a single singularity of a fixed angle are determined by the topological equivalence class of their lightlike bi-foliation. While this result is reminiscent of Troyanov's work on Riemannian surfaces with conical singularities, the rigidity will come from topological dynamics in the Lorentzian case.

Abstract:In this article, we prove a rigidity property for a class of generalized interval exchange transformations (GIETs), which contains the class of piecewise smooth circle homeomorphisms. More precisely, we show that if two piecewise C 3 GIETs f and g with zero mean non-linearity are topologically conjugated, boundary-equivalent, have the same typical combinatorial rotation number and their renormalizations approach in an appropriate way the set of affine interval exchange transformations, then, their respective renormalizations converge to each other exponentially and the conjugating map is of class C 1 . In addition, if f and g are GIETs with rotation-type combinatorial data (i.e., they naturally define a piecewise smooth circle homeomorphism), have the same typical combinatorial rotation number, and they are break-equivalent as piecewise smooth circle homeomorphisms, then they are C 1 -conjugated as circle maps. This work provides the first rigidity results for GIETs not smoothly conjugated to IETs, and generalizes a previous result of K. Cunha and D. Smania [5], concerning an exceptional class of circle maps, in the setting of piecewise C 3 circle homeomorphisms.

Abstract:Let $X_1^t$ and $X_2^t$ be volume preserving Anosov flows on a 3-dimensional manifold $M$. We prove that if $X_1^t$ and $X_2^t$ are $C^0$ conjugate then the conjugacy is, in fact, smooth, unless $M$ is a mapping torus of an Anosov automorphism of $\mathbb T^2$ and both flows are constant roof suspension flows. We deduce several applications. Among them is a new result on rigidity of Anosov diffeorphisms on $\mathbb T^2$ and a new "weighted" marked length spectrum rigidity result for surfaces of negative curvature.

Abstract:For compact submanifolds in Euclidean and Spherical space forms with Ricci curvature bounded below by a function $\alpha(n,k,H,c)$ of mean curvature, we prove that the submanifold is either isometric to the Einstein Clifford torus, or a topological sphere for the maximal bound $\alpha(n,[\frac{n}{2}],H,c)$, or has up to $k$-th homology groups vanishing. This gives an almost complete (except for the differentiable sphere theorem) characterization of compact submanifolds with pinched Ricci curvature, generalizing celebrated rigidity results obtained by Ejiri, Xu-Tian, Xu-Gu, Xu-Leng-Gu, Vlachos, Dajczer-Vlachos.

Abstract: Let $F^{n+p}(c)$ be an $(n+p)$-dimensional simply connected space form with nonnegative constant curvature $c$. We prove that if $M^n(n\geq4)$ is a compact submanifold in $F^{n+p}(c)$, and if $Ric_M>(n-2)(c+H^2),$ where $H$ is the mean curvature of $M$, then $M$ is homeomorphic to a sphere. We also show that the pinching condition above is sharp. Moreover, we obtain a new differentiable sphere theorem for submanifolds with positive Ricci curvature.
