Abstract:Abstract Background Since the beginning of 2007, the National Health Research Institutes has been promoting the dissemination of evidence-based medicine (EBM). The current study examined longitudinal trends of behaviors in how hospital-based physicians and nurses have searched for medical information during the spread of EBM. Methods Cross-sectional postal questionnaire surveys were conducted in nationally representative regional hospitals of Taiwan thrice in 2007, 2009, and 2011. Demographic data were gathered concerning gender, age, working experience, teaching appointment, academic degree, and administrative position. Linear and logistic regression models were used to examine predictors and changes over time. Results Data from physicians and nurses were collected in 2007 (n = 1156), 2009 (n = 2975), and 2011 (n = 3999). There were significant increases in the use of four Internet-based resources – Web portals, online databases, electronic journals, and electronic books – across the three survey years among physicians and nurses ( p < 0.001). Access to textbooks and printed journals, however, did not change over the 4-year study period. In addition, there were significant relationships between the usage of Internet-based resources and users’ characteristics. Age and faculty position were important predictors in relation to the usage among physicians and nurses, while academic degree served as a critical factor among nurses only. Conclusions Physicians and nurses used a variety of sources to look for medical information. There was a steady increase in use of Internet-based resources during the diffusion period of EBM. The findings highlight the importance of the Internet as a prominent source of medical information for main healthcare professionals.

Health Literacy Knowledge Level of Chinese Registered Nurses and Associated Practices: A Cross-sectional Survey

Abstract:Abstract BackgroundHealth literacy is recognized as a social determinant of health based on its impact on health outcomes. Nurses play a vital role in the promotion of health literacy, health literacy practices enable nurses to offer understandable health information to all people and contribute to health equity. The aims of this study were to investigate health literacy knowledge level and associated practices among Chinese registered nurses and identify related factors.MethodsA cross-sectional study design was used. The Chinese version of the Health Literacy Knowledge and Experience Survey was adapted among registered nurses (N=768) from six hospitals in Zhejiang Province of China. Descriptive statistics, one-way analysis of variance and multiple linear regression were used to analyze the data of demographic characteristics, knowledge and associated practices.ResultsThe health literacy knowledge level of 768 nurses was 12.78±3.54, of the five content areas, basic facts about health literacy had the lowest correct answer rate 43.2%. Educational background (P=0.000), position (P=0.010), professional title (P=0.030), department (P=0.009), and whether they had heard about health literacy (P=0.022) were significantly correlated with health literacy knowledge level. The multiple linear regression analysis found that educational background and whether they had heard about health literacy were positively associated with health literacy knowledge level. In the aspect of health literacy education practice, using written materials to provide healthcare information (P=0.000), using computer software to provide healthcare information (P=0.003) and using teach-back to examine the effect of health education (P=0.000) were positively correlated with health literacy knowledge level.ConclusionThis study indicated that registered nurses in Zhejiang Province of China had low health literacy knowledge level and applied health literacy-associated practices inadequately. It is urgent to improve the knowledge level of nurses' health literacy. Educational background, position, professional title, department, and whether they had heard about health literacy were significantly correlated with health literacy knowledge level. In the continuous training, it is very important to design corresponding health literacy courses according to different departments and different levels of nurses.
Investigation on utilization and need of online evidence-based nursing information resources

Abstract:Objective To understand nursing staff′s utilization and need of online evidence-based nursing(EBN) information resources,and to provide information for construction of Chinese evidence-based nursing information network.Methods Totally,268 clinical nurses and 126 nursing students were surveyed by using a self-designed questionnaire.Data was analyzed by using SPSS.Results For participants,17.2% clinical nurses and 75.4% nursing students had visited currently available EBN online resources;10.9% clinical nurses and 20.0% nursing students considered current EBN online resources to be satisfactory;66.0% clinical nurses and 86.5% nursing students confirmed the necessity of construction of China′s online EBN resources.As for the need of EBN information,more clinical nurses agreed that online EBN resources should provide a module for users to communicate,and that the resources should be publicized in China,than the students did(P<0.01 for all).Conclusion Clinical nurses have poor utilization of online EBN resources,which requires effective intervention and support.Clinical nurses and nursing students believe current online EBN resources to be unsatisfactory and confirm the necessity of construction of Chinese online EBN resources,which should attend to different information needs of clinical nurses and nursing students.
Attitude, Knowledge, and Practice on Evidence-Based Nursing among Registered Nurses in Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospitals: A Multiple Center Cross-Sectional Survey in China.

Abstract:Objective. This study was to describe RNs' attitude, knowledge, and practice on evidence-based practice (EBP) in traditional Chinese nursing field and to estimate the related sociodemographic and professional factors. Methods. A multiple institutional cross-sectional survey design with self-reported EBP Questionnaire (EBPQ) and self-designed questionnaires were used. Results. The average scores of the total EBPQ were with a mean of 4.24 (SD = 0.79). The score of attitude was the highest one, followed by the knowledge score, and the lowest one is practice. RNs with longer experience reported stronger EBP knowledge (H = 6.64, P < 0.05). And RNs under higher working pressure reported less positive attitudes (ρ = 0.17, P < 0.001), whereas RNs holding negative professional attitude reported lower scores (Spearman's ρ: 0.12 to 0.15, P < 0.001). Significant statistics were found between RNs with research experience and without in attitude (t = -2.40, P < 0.05) and knowledge (t = -2.43, P < 0.05). Conclusions. Respondents generally viewed EBP positively and their attitudes towards EBP tended to be more positive than knowledge and practice of EBP. Data also showed that longer working experience, having administrative position, research experience, lighter working load, and better professional attitude might facilitate EBP.

Abstract:Objective:To identify the status of knowledge, attitude, and behaviour toward evidence-based practice (EBP) among Chinese psychiatric nurses, and to examine the influencing factors of EBP behaviour.Methods:We utilised a cross-sectional design. A total of 923 psychiatric nurses from 168 hospitals in 27 provinces in the mainland of China participated in our survey. The EBP questionnaire, the barriers to research utilisation scale and the facilitators to research utilisation scale were used for data collection via WeChat group from July 2018 to April 2019. Multiple regression analysis was used to analyse the influencing factors of psychiatric nurses' evidence-based practice behaviour.Results:The score of Chinese psychiatric nurses' EBP attitude, behaviour and knowledge were 4.81 ± 1.34, 4.11 ± 1.36 and 3.53 ± 1.29, respectively. Multiple regression analysis showed that nurses' EBP behaviour was mainly determined by knowledge and attitude, which together explained 61.8% of the variance. The two top barriers were the dimensions of presentation and research. Facilitators include managerial support, employing nurses with research skills as models and providing advanced education on evidence-based nursing.Conclusion:Psychiatric nurses have positive attitudes toward EBP, but their level of knowledge and behaviour is insufficient. Heavy workload, insufficient time, and a lack of knowledge and skills is the main barrier. Managerial support, employing nurses with research skills as models and providing advanced education are the main facilitators.

Abstract:BackgroundThere is a widespread international agreement that healthcare should be based on high-quality evidence; however, bridging the gap from evidence to practice is still problematic. Although barriers to the implementation of evidence-based nursing practice have been identified, most studies have focused on clinical nurses' perceptions of the barriers to evidence-based nursing practice, with a lack of investigation into barriers from the hospitals' viewpoint.ObjectivesTo identify existing barriers to implementing evidence-based nursing practice from the hospitals' viewpoint.DesignA descriptive study employing a regional cross-sectional survey.Settings and participantsA convenience sample of 91 hospitals in Guangdong Province, China.MethodsThe survey used an online questionnaire containing basic hospital information and an open-ended question. Descriptive statistics were used to analyse basic hospital data. Responses to the open-ended question were analysed with thematic analysis.ResultsThe sample consisted of 89 valid responses to the open-ended question. Five themes were identified: (1) knowledge (70.8 %); (2) environmental context and resources (42.7 %); (3) social influences (7.9 %); (4) intentions (7.9 %); and (5) beliefs about capabilities (1.1 %).ConclusionIntroduced early in 2001, China has embraced evidence-based nursing for more than 20 years. However, lack of knowledge is still the top barrier to implementing evidence-based nursing practice in hospitals in China. The findings indicate a need for more evidence-based nursing practice teaching strategies towards further enhancing clinical nurses' and nursing managers' evidence-based nursing practice beliefs, knowledge, and skills.

General practitioners' perceptions of their practice of evidence-based chronic disease prevention interventions: a quantitative study in Shanghai, China

Abstract:Background: Epidemic chronic diseases pose significant challenges to the improvement of healthcare in China and worldwide. Despite increasing international calls for the inclusion of evidence-based decision-making (EBDM) processes in chronic disease prevention and control programming as well as policymaking, there is relatively little research that assesses the current capacity of physicians and the factors that influence that capacity in China. Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted in community health centres (CHCs) in Shanghai, China, using multistage cluster sampling. An evidence-based chronic disease prevention (EBCDP) evaluation tool was employed to assess physician EBCDP awareness, adoption, implementation and maintenance based on the Reach, Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation and Maintenance (RE-AIM) framework and using a 7-point Likert scale. Linear regression analysis was used to assess associations between each EBCDP aspect and overall EBCDP status with participant characteristics or organizational factors. Result: A total of 892 physicians from CHCs in Shanghai, China, were assessed. The physicians perceived their awareness (mean = 4.90, SD = 1.02) and maintenance (mean = 4.71, SD = 1.07) of EBCDP to be relatively low. Physicians with relatively lower job titles and monthly incomes (> 9000 RMB) tended to have relatively higher scores for the awareness, adoption, and implementation of EBCDP (P < 0.05). Those who had participated in one program for chronic disease prevention and control were less likely to adopt (b = - 0.284, P = 0.007), implement (b = - 0.292, P = 0.004), and maintain (b = - 0.225, P = 0.025) EBCDP than those who had participated in more programs. Physicians in general practice (Western medicine) had a lower level of awareness of EBCDP than those in other departments (P < 0.0001). Physician from CHCs located in suburban areas had lower scores for awareness (b = - 0.150, P = 0.047), implementation (b = - 0.171, P = 0.029), and maintenance (b = - 0.237, P = 0.002) that those from urban CHCs. Physicians in CHCs affiliated with universities had higher scores on all four EBCDP aspects that those in CHCs not affiliated with a university. Conclusions: This study provides quantitative evidence illustrating EBCDP practices among physicians in CHCs with various personal and organizational characteristics, respectively. More methods should be provided to increase the awareness of such physicians regarding EBCDP to stimulate the use of EBCDP for their patients and in connection with other public health priorities.

Abstract:Objective To investigate the content and form of evidence-based nursing(EBN) education in Shanghai.Methods A total of 60 professional nursing educators from the nursing schools which had carried out postgraduate education in Shanghai were selected from April to June 2008.They were investigated by self-designed questionnaire,focusing on learning conditions,contents,focus and difficulties,methods,credit hours and assessment means.Results Over 90% of the professional nursing educators had the opinion that the nursing schools with EBN education should include a good system of library resources and network resources,professional teachers familiar with evidence-based practice(EBP) and the related research,senior nurses with clinical EBP skills,and cooperation with other global EBN institutes.The focus contents of EBN teaching included the methods of determination of EBN issues,literature searching,critically appraising the literature,and systematic review.The lectures,discussion,illustration and example exercises were better teaching methods.Conclusion The suitable program of EBN education should be given to postgraduate nursing students.In the meantime,good command of theoretical knowledge and practical skills of EBN by postgraduate nursing students is important for its development.

Abstract:Nutrition Risk Screening 2002 (NRS 2002) was developed on the basis of 128 randomized controlled clinical studies by a group of experts led by Kondrup from the European Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ESPEN).As the first evidence-based nutritional screening tool worldwide,NRS 2002 has been recommended for nutritional risk assessment of hospitalized patients in Europe for the addition of disease metabolism and its simplicity.In this article,we reviewed the increasing applications of NRS 2002 in China,pointed out the existing problems and made several suggestions on improvement for popularization and standardization of its clinical use.
A Survey of Chinese Ophthalmologists' Cognition and Practice of Evidence-Based Medicine

Abstract:Background Evidence-based medicine (EBM) has been widely applied to solve clinical issues internationally,however,the awareness of oculists in China still is dissatisfied,and the relevant issue survey can offer the training guidance.Objective This study was to survey the status of the cognition and practice of EBM in ophthalmologists in China and analyze the problems in their EBM practice.Methods Two hundred and thirty-three ophthalmologists were enrolled in the 18th Congress of Chinese Ophthalmological Society in August,2013.A survey about EBM was performed by self-made questionnaire,including general data from the surveyors,the way and channel of understanding EBM,the attitude toward EBM,clinical practice of EBM and influencing factors.The educational background,professional qualifications,ranked distribution of hospitals which surveyors came from,size of the citys and attribute of hospitals were stratified and analyzed.SPSS 17.0 software was used for statistical analysis.Results A total of 233 questionnaires were distributed,and 233 were regained with the response rate 100％,and 214 valid questionnaires were included,with the effective rate 91.8％.50.5％ of the respondents (104/206) knew EBM in university.The proportion of those believe EBM initially as medical students was 41.8％,and 49.1％ (102/208) were aware of EBM in recent 8 years.And 47.7％ (101/211) believed that EBM should be given priority in clinic,and 7.5％ (16/211) were indifferent to EBM.Only 3.8％ (8/211) surveyors thought EBM to be little important.The proportion of the respondents choosing ‘ know’ or ‘ moderately-know’ were 69.1％ (148/214),35.0％ (75/ 213),21.5％ (46/213) and 57.4％ (121/211) respectively in EBM,Meta analysis,Cochrane as well as Preferred Practice Patterns (PPPs) with a higher receiving degree in well-educated individuals (P =0.000,0.000,0.001,0.000).EBM was well practiced in 11.7％ (25/211) oculists,with a higher using frequency in senior ophthalmologists,and 17.8％ (89/495,frequency) oculists consulted the EBM literature to resolve problems in clinic,with a significant difference in the using frequency of EBM among the different educational background subjects (x2=13.406,P=0.037).The top three barriers which affected the application of EBM in clinical practices were lack of time and the limited energy,feeling it difficult to evaluate the evidence correctly as well as the absence of cases proving the efficacy to treat based EBM.The type of EBM evidence mostly used by respondents was medical database (36.7％),and CNKI (33.5％) and PubMed (38.4％) were the mostly used Chinese and English database,respectively.Respondents who have never searched the Chinese or English database occupied up to 7.3％ and 17.2％,respectively.Conclusions The cognition degree and applying frequency are still lower in ophthalmologists in China.The training of EBM should be strengthened in medical students.The guidance measurement should be taken to encourage eye doctors to apply EBM.
Factors Associated with Evidence-Based Practice Competencies among Taiwanese Nurses: A Cross-Sectional Study

Abstract:Evidence-based practice (EBP) is an essential component of healthcare practice that ensures the delivery of high-quality care by integrating the best available evidence. This study aimed to explore factors influencing EBP among nursing professionals in Taiwan. A cross-sectional survey study was conducted with 752 registered nurses and nurse practitioners recruited from a regional teaching hospital in southern Taiwan. EBP competency was evaluated using the Taipei Evidence-Based Practice Questionnaire (TEBPQ). The results showed that participation in evidence-based courses or training within the past year had the strongest association with EBP competencies (Std. B = 0.157, p < 0.001). Holding a graduate degree (Std. B = 0.151, p < 0.001), working in gynecology or pediatrics (Std. B = 0.126, p < 0.001), searching the literature in electronic databases (Std. B = 0.072, p = 0.039), and able to read academic articles in English (Std. B = 0.088, p = 0.005) were significantly associated with higher TEBPQ scores. Younger age (Std. B = −0.105, p = 0.005) and male gender (Std. B = 0.089, p = 0.010) were also identified as factors contributing to higher EBP competencies. The study highlights the importance of ongoing professional development, including EBP training and language proficiency, in enhancing EBP competencies among nursing professionals in Taiwan.

Abstract:ObjectivesEvidence-based healthcare contributes to the improvement of healthcare quality and informs healthcare decision-making. The provision of timely high-quality evidence is always required to fulfil the ever-changing needs and expectations of healthcare personnel. This study aimed to assess the needs and expectations of healthcare personnel regarding evidence-based healthcare in China.MethodsWe conducted a cross-sectional online survey from December 8, 2020 to January 15, 2021 involving 901 participants across China. Healthcare providers, policy makers, researchers and educators, and full-time postgraduate medical and nursing students working/living in China were eligible to participate. A self-developed questionnaire was used.ResultsParticipants generally agreed that health-related research evidence was beneficial. Evidence-based resources, such as Cochrane resources, were only known or used by about half of the respondents due to difficulties related to availability and accessibility. Various types of resources, topics of evidence, and themes of workshops were of particular interest to most of the participants.ConclusionsThe dissemination and translation of evidence, provision of more support in evidence availability, offering evidence-based training, and determining the most in-demand research areas have been identified as priority areas of work which could fulfil the needs and expectations of healthcare personnel in China.
Correlation between dietary information sources and knowledge of adequate diets in Eastern China

Abstract:Knowledge of adequate diets can improve an individual's health status. Although previous studies have identified the main resources from which Chinese people acquire dietary knowledge, it is still unclear whether information sources regarding diets (ISRDs) can increase individuals' knowledge of adequate diets (KAD) and which ISRDs are most effective in conveying KAD to the Chinese population. In this study, we interviewed 4,710 residents in Eastern China regarding their ISRDs and KAD. Descriptive statistics, ANOVA, and multivariate linear regression were used to analyze the effectiveness of different ISRDs in transmitting KAD to Chinese individuals and to determine the relationship between ISRDs and KAD. Results showed that the KAD scores of the respondents were low overall in Eastern China. Providing dietary information through expert lectures, books, newspapers, magazines, and social media could significantly improve the average KAD score of Chinese individuals. Respondents with a greater number of ISRDs were more likely to have higher KAD scores. These findings suggest that the number of ISRDs should be increased. In particular, emphasis should be placed on the role of expert lectures, books, newspapers, magazines, and social media.

Abstract:Objective To establish the baseline data on awareness about evidence-based medicine of Chinese pediatricians in order to compare with future related studies.Methods Twenty one cities were selected as the implementation sites of the cross-section survey.The survey began at April 28th 2009 and ended at July 18th 2009.The questionnaire of the cross-section study was designed by editorial department of Chinese Journal of Evidence-Based Pediatrics,consisting of 20 items,of which basic data(education,work experience,position and hospital levels) and awareness about evidence-based medicine(listening to evidence-based medical lectures,applying evidences to medical works,the main basis for making clinical decisions and sequence of reading articles apart from Abstract) were analyzed.Results We received 2 102 replies(96.3%) of the 2 182 questionnaires we sent out,of which 57 questionnaires were invalid.The data of 2 045 valid questionnaires were analyzed.The number of college education was 191/2 032,undergraduate 1 283,master 502 and doctor 56;residents 678/1 983,doctors 556,deputy chief physicians 471 and chief physicians 278;hospital grade Ⅰ 150/2 020,grade Ⅱ 641 and grade Ⅲ 1 229;work experiences <2 years 399/2 035,-5 years 362,-10 years 259 and more than 10 years 1 015.① 401/2 023(19.8%) respondents never listened to any lectures on evidence-based medicine,965(47.7%) listened 1-2 times and 657(32.5%) listened more than 3 times.Stratified analysis revealed that the proportion of listening to evidence-based medicine significantly increased with the elevation of education,work experience,position and hospital levels(P<0.05).② 205/1 988(10.3%) respondents never applied evidences to clinical works,1 021(51.4%)occasionally and 762(38.3%) often.Stratified analysis showed that the proportion of applying evidences to clinical works significantly increased with the elevation of education,work experience,position and hospital levels(P<0.000 1).③ The percentages of using clinical guidelines,textbooks,experiences and original papers to make clinical decisions were 71.2%,59.6%,41.7% and 15.3%,respectively.Stratified analysis revealed that using textbooks to make clinical decisions had no relations to education,work experience,position and hospital levels;the proportion of using clinical guidelines and original papers to make clinical decisions increased with the elevation of work experience,position and hospital levels,not related to education.④ The respondents firstly reading foreword were 1 202/1 970(61.0%),firstly reading methods were 98/1 941(5.0%),firstly reading results were 560/1 986(28.2%),firstly reading discussion were 126/1 964(6.4%).The reading sequence of 1 202 firstly reading foreword was analyzed again.It showed 723/1 941(37.2%) respondents firstly read methods,the ratio of which significantly increased with the elevation of education.890/1 986(44.8%)respondents firstly read results,the ratio of which significantly increased with the elevation of education and hospital levels.Conclusions Chinese pediatricians are certainly aware of evidence-based medicine,but the percentage of applying clinical guidelines,textbooks,experiences to make clinical decisions is higher than that of applying original literatures.Chinese pediatricians put emphasis on the results when reading literatures.
Preliminary Assessment of the Data Appropriateness of Electronic Health Records for Real-World Studies: A Survey of Hospitals in a Developing Region in China

Abstract:BACKGROUND Assessment of data appropriateness is a top priority before conducting real world studies (RWS). However, this evaluation on electronic health records (EHRs) from hospitals in developing regions has been long-term overlooked. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to preliminarily assess whether EHRs from hospitals in a developing region in China were appropriate enough to meet RWS purposes. METHODS All secondary and tertiary hospitals (n = 28) in Fuzhou, Jiangxi province, China, were recruited. Through face-to-face interviews with chief administrators of hospital EHR systems, the assessment was conducted via semi-quantitative questionnaire to evaluate three dimensions of EHR appropriateness (coverage, consistency, accessibility). Coverage and consistency were measured using 80 core variables compared with two well-established common data models (CDMs), the former focusing on the existence of relevant variables in targeted databases and the latter on data structuring, data types and standardized coding systems. Accessibility was measured by willingness to data sharing. RESULTS Structured EHRs restoration was accomplished in at least 15 hospitals. Variables on drug exposure were the least covered (of 75.0% databases), structured (of 53.6% databases), relatively inconsistent in data types (of 10.7-75.0% databases) and standardized coding systems (of 7.1% databases). Low willingness to data sharing was responded among 64.3% of local hospitals, over 50.0% due to administrative concerns. CONCLUSIONS EHR databases from hospitals in the developing region showed favorable coverage of potentially relevant variables for RWS. However, poor consistency, including data structuring, data type and data coding on the preliminary level of variables, and low willingness to share data challenged RWD application.
Evidence-based practice attitudes, knowledge and skills of nursing students and nurses, a systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract:Aim/objective: This study aims to carry out a meta-analysis of attitudes, knowledge, and skills level of nursing students and nurses in EBP, providing a reference for optimizing EBP education strategies. Background: At present, no meta-analysis has been performed to quantitatively synthesize the attitudes, knowledge and skill levels of nursing students and nurses toward EBP. This makes it difficult to precisely identify the true level of EBP among nurses, implying that there is no evidence to support the adoption of EBP teaching strategies approaches. Design: A total of 9 Chinese and English databases including CNKI, Wan fang, VIP, CBM, PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library and CINAHL were used to search cross-sectional quantitative articles on EBP attitudes, knowledge and skills level of nurses and nursing students. The search time limit was from the inception of the database to September 2023. Methods: Two researchers independently screened the literature and extracted the data. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) was used to assess the quality of the included studies. Stata15.0 software was used for statistical analysis to summarize the scores of EBP attitude, knowledge and skills level of nursing students and nurses included in the study. Results: A total of 25 cross-sectional studies from 13 countries were included, involving 11363 nursing students and nurses. The meta-analysis results revealed that nursing students and nurses lacked evidence-based practical knowledge and skills, with pooled mean scores of 3.06 (95 % CI: 2.72, 3.39), 2.91 (95 % CI: 2.60, 3.22), 4.31 (95 % CI: 4.08, 4.54) and 4.45 (95 % CI: 4.20, 4.70). In contrast, nursing students and nurses revealed a positive attitude towards EBP, with pooled mean scores of 3.57 (95 % CI: 3.28, 3.86) and 5.11 (95 % CI: 4.80, 5.42). Subgroup analysis revealed that senior nursing students and nurses with master's degree or above had higher attitudes, knowledge and skills. Conclusions: In summary, nursing students and nurses have a positive attitude towards EBP. However, they seem to lack the necessary knowledge and skills. Therefore, nursing educators should consider this as an opportunity to strengthen the teaching of their evidence-based practical knowledge and skills. This will lay a reference for developing nursing discipline.

Abstract:Background. As there might be relevant differences with regard to research utilization in the general hospitals, we aimed to study research utilization among registered nurses working in traditional Chinese medicine hospitals. Methods. A total of 648 registered nurses from 4 tertiary-level hospitals in China were recruited for participation. A modified BARRIERS Scale and self-designed questionnaires were used for data collection. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-tests, and one-way ANOVAs and Spearman correlation analysis. Results. Overall, items which belong to the subscale "Research" were identified as the most important barriers. Among the individual items, the lack of time on the job was ranked as the top barrier, followed by the lack of knowledgeable colleagues and by overwhelming research publications. Clinical experience, working pressure, job satisfaction, and research experience could be identified as associated factors for barriers to research utilization. Conclusions. Registered nurses in traditional Chinese medicine hospitals felt high barriers to research utilization. Reducing registered nurses' working pressure, promoting their positive attitude to nursing, and improving research training might be helpful for increasing research utilization. Close cooperation between clinical and nursing schools or academic research centres might facilitate the necessary change in nursing education and routine.

Abstract:Objective:To probe into the cognition status quo of nursing staff toward evidence-based nursing and its related factors influencing nursing staff with bachelor degree or above in Shanghai area to carry out evidence-based nursing.Methods:A total of 722 clinical nurses with bachelor degree or above from 13 tertiary hospitals and 2 two-grade hospitals in Shanghai were asked to fill out questionnaire,which is focusing on nurses’ knowledge,cognitive status and its related factors on evidence-based nursing.Results:Among all nurses,93.2% of them heard of "evidence-based nursing",68.1% nurses comprehended "evidence-based nursing".And 56.2% nurses considered that it was necessary for them to take evidence-based nursing training continuously and systematically;There were many factors influencing nursing staff to carry out evidence-based nursing practice,which including inadequate subjective ability and lack of understanding on evidence-based nursing of nurses,limitation on quality of current studies and objective condition.Conclusion:It is very urgent to unfold training courses on evidence-based nursing education and to design a suitable education training plan for clinical nursing staff with bachelor degree or above.To carry out evidence-based nursing education training for clinical nursing staff with bachelor degree or above has important significance.

Abstract:Background: Dietary behavior is a pivotal modifiable determinant in reducing the occurrence of obesity/overweight and chronic non-communicable diseases. Improving the dietary behavior of rural residents in China is imminent due to the poor performance of their dietary behavior. Nutrition knowledge and health literacy are considered as elements that are linked intimately to healthy dietary behaviors but lack research in the Chinese setting. Purpose: The study is designed to explore the relationship between nutritional knowledge, health literacy and dietary behaviors and to analyze the performance under different demographic characteristics. Methods: A face-to-face survey of 400 rural residents on their nutrition knowledge, functional health literacy and dietary intake of five food categories consisting of 32 items was conducted based on a validated questionnaire. Descriptive analysis, difference test including ANOVA, t -test and non-parametric test, and multivariate linear regression were used for data analysis. Results: The results indicate that declarative nutrition knowledge, individuals' information application capacity, and dietary behaviors, especially the intake of fruits, dairy and beans, and vegetable are not ideal and requires improvement. Male, elder, low-income, unmarried, and low-education populations performed significantly worse and were the high-risk group. Procedural nutrition knowledge, information access capacity, information understanding capacity, and information application capacity have remarkable effects on better dietary behavior. Conclusion: This study provides evidence-based guidance for prioritizing information and populations for healthy dietary interventions.
