Abstract:The smallest integer v>0 for which no skew-Hadamard matrix of order 4v is known is v=69. We show how to construct several such matrices. We also construct presumably the first example of a skew-Hadamard matrix of order 292, and the first examples of symmetric Hadamard matrices of order 372.

Abstract:Hadamard matrices of order $n$ are conjectured to exist whenever $n$ is $1$, $2$, or a multiple of $4$; a similar conjecture exists for skew Hadamard matrices. We provide constructions covering orders $\le 1208$ of all known Hadamard and skew Hadamard matrices in the open-source software SageMath. This allowed us to verify the correctness of results given in the literature. Within this range, just one order, $292$, of a skew Hadamard matrix claimed to have a known construction, required a fix. We also produce the up to date tables, for $n \le 2999$ (resp. $n\le 999$ for skew case), of the minimum exponents $m$ such that a (skew) Hadamard matrix of order $2^m n$ is known, improving over 100 entries in the previously published sources. We explain how tables' entries are related to Riesel numbers. As a by-product of the latter, we show that the Paley constructions of (skew-)Hadamard matrices do not work for the order $2^m 509203$, for any $m$.

Abstract:We revisit the old idea of constructing difference sets from cyclotomic classes. Two constructions of skew Hadamard difference sets are given in the additive groups of finite fields by using union of cyclotomic classes of Fq of order N=2p1m, where p1 is a prime and m a positive integer. Our main tools are index 2 Gauss sums, instead of cyclotomic numbers.

Abstract:Let p be a prime larger than 3 and congruent to 3 modulo 4, and let G be the non-abelian group of order p^3 and exponent p. We study the structure of a putative difference set with parameters (p^3,p^3-12,p^3-34) in G which is fixed by a certain element of order p in Aut(G). We then give a construction of skew Hadamard difference set in the group G for each prime p3 that is congruent to 3 modulo 4. This is the first infinite family of non-abelian skew Hadamard difference sets. Finally, we show that the symmetric designs derived from these new difference sets are not isomorphic to the Paley designs.

Abstract:In this paper, we obtain a number of new infinite families of Hadamard matrices. Our constructions are based on four new constructions of difference families with four or eight blocks. By applying the Wallis-Whiteman array or the Kharaghani array to the difference families constructed, we obtain new Hadamard matrices of order $4(uv+1)$ for $u=2$ and $v\in \Phi_1\cup \Phi_2 \cup \Phi_3 \cup \Phi_4$; and for $u\in \{3,5\}$ and $v\in \Phi_1\cup \Phi_2 \cup \Phi_3$. Here, $\Phi_1=\{q^2:q\equiv 1\pmod{4}\mbox{ is a prime power}\}$, $\Phi_2=\{n^4\in \mathbb{N}:n\equiv 1\pmod{2}\} \cup \{9n^4\in \mathbb{N}:n\equiv 1\pmod{2}\}$, $\Phi_3=\{5\}$ and $\Phi_4=\{13,37\}$. Moreover, our construction also yields new Hadamard matrices of order $8(uv+1)$ for any $u\in \Phi_1\cup \Phi_2$ and $v\in \Phi_1\cup \Phi_2 \cup \Phi_3$.

Abstract:A classification of Hadamard matrices of order $2p+2$ with an automorphism of order $p$ is given for $p=29$ and $31$. The ternary self-dual codes spanned by the newly found Hadamard matrices of order $60$ with an automorphism of order $29$ are computed, as well as the binary doubly even self-dual codes of length $120$ with generator matrices defined by related Hadamard designs. Several new ternary near-extremal self-dual codes, as well as binary near-extremal doubly even self-dual codes with previously unknown weight enumerators are found.

Abstract:The aim of this work is to provide a complete list of all the possible values that the first six pivots of an Hadamard matrix of order 20 can take. This is accomplished by determining the possible values of certain minors of such matrices, in combination with the fact that the pivots can be computed in terms of these minors. We extend known results, by giving a different proof for the complete list of possible values for each of the first five pivots, as well as determining the complete list of possible values for the sixth pivot. By using a computational approach to search for new pivot patterns, we have also found at least 1246 different pivot patterns of Hadamard matrices of order 20.

Abstract:A real symmetric matrix $M$ is completely positive semidefinite if it admits a Gram representation by (Hermitian) positive semidefinite matrices of any size $d$. The smallest such $d$ is called the (complex) completely positive semidefinite rank of $M$, and it is an open question whether there exists an upper bound on this number as a function of the matrix size. We construct completely positive semidefinite matrices of size $4k^2+2k+2$ with complex completely positive semidefinite rank $2^k$ for any positive integer $k$. This shows that if such an upper bound exists, it has to be at least exponential in the matrix size. For this we exploit connections to quantum information theory and we construct extremal bipartite correlation matrices of large rank. We also exhibit a class of completely positive matrices with quadratic (in terms of the matrix size) completely positive rank, but with linear completely positive semidefinite rank, and we make a connection to the existence of Hadamard matrices.

Abstract:Using a class of permutation polynomials of $F_{3^{2h+1}}$ obtained from the Ree-Tits symplectic spreads in $PG(3,3^{2h+1})$, we construct a family of skew Hadamard difference sets in the additive group of $F_{3^{2h+1}}$. With the help of a computer, we show that these skew Hadamard difference sets are new when $h=2$ and $h=3$. We conjecture that they are always new when $h>3$. Furthermore, we present a variation of the classical construction of the twin prime power difference sets, and show that inequivalent skew Hadamard difference sets lead to inequivalent difference sets with twin prime power parameters.

Abstract:In this paper we disprove the Haagerup statement that all complex Hadamard matrices of order five are equivalent with the Fourier matrix $F_5$ by constructing circulant matrices that lead to new Hadamard matrices. An important item is the construction of new mutually unbiased bases that are a basic concept of quantum theory and play an essential role in quantum tomography, quantum cryptografy, teleportation, construction of dense coding schemes, classical signal proccesing, etc.

Abstract:A family of two-unitary complex Hadamard matrices (CHM) stemming from a particular matrix, of size $36$ is constructed. Every matrix in this orbit remains unitary after operations of partial transpose and reshuffling which makes it a distinguished subset of CHM. It provides a novel solution to the quantum version of the Euler problem, in which each field of the Graeco-Latin square of size six contains a symmetric superposition of all $36$ officers with phases being multiples of sixth root of unity. This simplifies previously known solutions as all amplitudes of the superposition are equal and the set of phases consists of $6$ elements only. Multidimensional parameterization allows for more flexibility in a potential experimental realization.

Abstract:We define quantum automorphisms and isomorphisms of Hadamard matrices. We show that every Hadamard matrix of size $N\ge 4$ has quantum symmetries and that all Hadamard matrices of a fixed size are mutually quantum isomorphic. These results pass also to the corresponding Hadamard graphs. We also define quantum Hadamard matrices acting on quantum spaces and bring an example thereof over matrix algebras.
