Abstract:We determine, by means of lattice QCD calculations, the local form factors describing the Bs→μ+μ−γ decay, in the so-called electroquenched approximation. For this analysis we make use of the gauge configurations produced by the ETM Collaboration with Nf=2+1+1 flavor of Wilson-Clover twisted-mass fermions at maximal twist. To obtain the Bs meson form factors, we perform simulations for several heavy-strange meson masses mHs in the range mHs∈[mDs,2mDs] , and extrapolate to the physical Bs meson point mBs≃5.367 GeV making use of the HQET scaling laws. We cover the region of large dimuon invariant masses q2>4.16 GeV , and use our results to determine the branching fraction for Bs→μ+μ−γ , which has been recently measured by LHCb in the region q2>4.9 GeV . The largest contribution to the uncertainty in the partial branching fractions at values of q2<4.8 GeV is now due to resonance and other long-distance effects, including those from "charming penguins," which we estimate by summing over the contributions from the JP=1− charmonium resonances. https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevD.109.114506 Published by the American Physical Society under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license. What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper aims to solve is to calculate the local form factors in the large \(q^2\) region for the \(B_s \rightarrow \mu^+\mu^-\gamma\) decay via Lattice QCD (Lattice Quantum Chromodynamics). Specifically, the researchers attempt to determine the local form factors \(F_V, F_A, F_{TV}, F_{TA},\) and \(\bar{F}_T\) that describe the \(B_s \rightarrow \mu^+\mu^-\gamma\) decay. These form factors are the only non - perturbative QCD inputs in calculating the decay matrix elements. ### Background of the Paper - **Physical Significance**: The \(B_s \rightarrow \mu^+\mu^-\gamma\) decay is a Flavor - Changing Neutral Current (FCNC) process, which is strongly suppressed in the Standard Model and thus is an ideal channel for searching for new physics signals. - **Experimental Situation**: The LHCb experimental group has recently measured the branching ratio of this decay, but no significant events have been found, giving an upper limit of the branching ratio \(B(B_s \rightarrow \mu^+\mu^-\gamma) < 2.0\times 10^{-9}\) in the region \(\sqrt{q^2}>4.9 \, \text{GeV}\). - **Theoretical Challenges**: Compared with the widely studied \(B_s \rightarrow \mu^+\mu^-\) decay, the non - perturbative strong interaction effects in the \(B_s \rightarrow \mu^+\mu^-\gamma\) decay are more complex, depending not only on the local form factors but also on the resonance contributions. ### Research Methods - **Lattice QCD Calculation**: Calculate using the gauge configurations of \(N_f = 2+1 + 1\) - flavor Wilson - Clover twisted - mass fermions generated by the ETM collaboration. - **Charge - Quenched Approximation**: Calculate under the so - called charge - quenched approximation, ignoring the contributions of sea quarks. - **Heavy Quark Effective Theory**: Simulate a series of non - physical heavy - strange quark meson masses \(m_{H_s}\) and extrapolate to the mass \(m_{B_s}\approx5.367 \, \text{GeV}\) of the physical \(B_s\) meson using the Heavy Quark Effective Theory (HQET) relations. - **Form Factor Calculation**: Calculate the form factors in the large \(q^2\) region with \(\sqrt{q^2}>4.16 \, \text{GeV}\), where the contributions of the four - quark operators and the chromomagnetic penguin operators are expected to be small. ### Main Results - **Form Factors**: The form factors \(F_V, F_A, F_{TV}, F_{TA},\) and \(\bar{F}_T\) are calculated. - **Branching Ratio**: Calculate part of the branching ratio with the ISR contribution, especially the branching ratio \(B_{SD}(x_{\text{cut}}^\gamma = 0.166)=6.9(9)\times 10^{-11}\) in the region \(\sqrt{q^2}>4.9 \, \text{GeV}\), which is far below the current LHCb upper limit of \(2.0\times 10^{-9}\). - **Systematic Error**: In the region \(\sqrt{q^2}<4.8 \, \text{GeV}\), the main uncertainty comes from the "charm penguin" contribution, which requires further research to reduce the theoretical error. ### Conclusion The paper, through Lattice QCD calculations, determines the \(B_s \rightarrow \mu^+\mu^-\gamma\) for the first time from first principles.
